We were extremely lucky to have Alex, a very knowledgeable and funny guide, he made the experience well worth it...we would recommend him to anyone. We learnt lots about Cambridge, the University and historical facts. Beautiful views. It was a lovely sunny day but windy, we were kept comfortable and warm with blankets provided. All in all a fantastic, enjoyable and relaxing experience, could happily do it every Sunday!

Booked for myself and other family members, Was able to change time last minute also to give us time to arrive They were very helpful , helping my older cousin down, she had poor mobility Picked up my brother further down as he had gone to wrong ticket office Young lad called ? Seb ? Seth, punted Very informative, entertaining and didn't rush We also gave him a couple of historical tidbits to add to his chat We were lucky with the weather Have used them before and will happily use them again 150gbp for 45-60 minutes from quayside
Fantastic mile long trip on the river. Ben was very informative. Great tour. Witty storytelling. Weather was beautiful which helped, of course!
Oscars the best punter hands down.. we felt safe in his control. Polite, friendly, respectful. Boats were also well kept. Thank you!
Great river tour on a shared punt with punter and tour guide Stan at 2.30pm on Friday. Very friendly, knowledgeable and charming, with a bit of football banter thrown in. A lovely way to spend 45 minutes on my wife’s birthday.
It was a very hot day, but we had a great time. We come every time we visit Cambridge
Amazing punting trip and very informative of the Cambridge University history.
Enjoyed our tour of the colleges as seen from the river Cam. Our guide, Callum, was extremely knowledgeable and engaging and added to the enjoyment of the guided tour.
Anna was a wonderful guide. She explained everything perfectly. We had a great time. It’s definitely worth the money. She explained the history n fun facts about all the colleges/universities and she also connected n answered all the questions we had. We went on a 45 minutes but felt timeless. There was 9 of us (2 families with kids) n she tolerated the kids n joked around with them. It was also sunny so the sun beamed down on us making the experience even better over everything else.
Perfect way to see Cambridge Colleges and learn some history. Nick was a knowledge guide who obviously cared about the info he shared.
Beautiful views , with a very knowledgeable entertaining guide
Ian was a very knowledgeable guide. Enjoyed our boat trip enormously. Learnt so much about beautiful Cambridge. We’ll be back.
What an amazing experience! We had a guide (I wanna say his name was Hamish but I could be wrong) he was very funny, knowledgable but it wasn’t too much. It was a lovely day, bright and hot. We got drinks from a nearby pimms boat and had a lovely trip down the river. Took about an hour but went by very quick. The company kept my cousins pram safe inside their reception area and the baby had a lovely trip as well. Definitely would love to do this again.
Had a lovely relaxing trip along the Cam. Tommy was a great guide with lots of interesting stories and information. Would recommend this trip
We went straight past all the sales peeps and straight to the front desk. It cost us £78 for 2 people on a shared punting tour. Our tour guide zi was brilliant and so knowledgeable. But I feel what we paid is an insane price and has put us off doing it again.
A lovely 45 minute glide up and down the Cam with a very knowledgeable young chap who gave us all the history of the various colleges we passed and some amusing stories to go with it. He was a very good pilot of the punt, and needed to be due to the amount of punts on the river at the time. The Pimms punt was a welcome addition, as you can pull up alongside and order a drink to take with you.
Punting is a must for visitors to Cambridge. It’s beautiful and a whole load of fun. The self-hire booking process with Scudamore’s was easy. My major gripe was the utter lack of effort by any of the staff to add to the experience in any way. Things like ‘welcome to scudamores’ or ‘good luck and don’t fall in’ or ‘welcome back - did you have a good time?’ or ‘thank you - see you soon’. Or, a smile. Something, ANYTHING at all to make you feel something other than a tourist to be farmed would have been nice. I’d recommend using a different operator.
We booked this last minute and our guide was Jason and he was great, very factual and telling us about the history. It was a nice way to spend an hour on the rive in the evening. would defo do again
Charlie our punter had excellent knowledge of the history, Guided us well down the Cam, High 5 for Charlie
Really wonderful experience. Our guide Freddie gave very interesting historical facts and knowledge about all the surrounding buildings and Cambridge in general.Booking was uncomplicated, tour started on time and everything went smoothly.
Wonderful evening punting tour (with Emile, hope I got the name right?) to celebrate our daughter's graduation. Just the right mix of facts and anecdotes, and gorgeous views of the famous college backs as well as some great wildlife sightings, including a kingfisher, swifts and cygnets. Going after 8pm meant the river was peaceful, uncrowded and everything was bathed in the most beautiful evening sunshine. Thank you for rounding off an amazing farewell to Cambridge. We have been with other punting operators before, and I would highly recommend Scudamores. Not necessarily the cheapest but a really professional outfit.
We had a young lad called Cian as our guide and he was class - incredibly knowledgable, friendly and caring. Did an incredible job of making sure everyone could hear, was comfortable and was having a great time. There was even a point where another one of the punts was quite rude and cian effortlessly dealt with it and made sure the focus was back on the tour! Which must not have been easy Really great tour and thanks so much Cian - will certainly be passing this on to friends
Scudamore’s Punting Company is a great way to experience Cambridge from a different perspective. The guided tours are quite expensive, but the guides are knowledgeable, friendly, and do a great job of sharing the history and stories behind the sights. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, the self-hire punts are much better value. Overall, a really enjoyable experience and a great thing to do in Cambridge.
Charlie was amazing today. So knowledgeable and interactive - made the experience.
We had a 45 minute guided tour along the back of the colleges on the River Cam. It was enjoyable and informative. It wasn’t at all relaxing though as so many punts were on the river that they were constantly banging into each other.
A very enjoyable tour. Very knowledgeable guide called Harry. This was followed by the Alumni walking tour with a guid called TJ. Again incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining
Stan was a brilliant guide. Well informed and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour company.
A lovely way to spend a bit of time whilst in Cambridge and see parts that you can not ordinarily access. We booked directly with the operator on the day and negotiated a price, this is the best top tip, don't pay the advertised price as they almost seem to expect negotiation. Our guide was friendly and informative. There is the bonus if you wish of a 'Pimms' boat on the river where you can purchase drinks if you wish whilst you float along.
Horace was a great guide and was full of historical knowledge! The journey is so beautiful ! Highly recommended
We negotiated a price to take a punting boat on the Cam during our visit to Cambridge. The prices are quite expensive, however, we managed to get £20 off the price. Obi was safe on the boat, and we shared the boat with some other tourists (sadly, one of them was a bit of a know it all, and at times it was hard to hear the punters travel info because of it). The tour last around 45 minutes.
We had a very knowledgeable and interesting young lady called Joelle who was our guide on our punt tour this weekend. We learnt so much about Cambridge and it's history from her amusing stories and it proved to be the highlight of our brilliant weekend. She was extremely enthusiastic and we would highly recommend her and this company when visiting Cambridge.
It was nice and Nick was informative but I didn't like how he asked us answers to the historical questions before telling us the info. I'm not a history buff so it made me feel a bit thick and patronised. Also the pricing of the trip was advertised at an inflated price which apparently many do pay, unless you enter into a negotiation on the riverbank to get it cheaper. All a bit unnecessary and unfair to some who end up getting loyally ripped off.
Our guide Romily was absolutely brilliant! Acted like true PRO!!
Great tour , very interesting, and Alex was very knowledgeable and funny .
Rip off attempt asking us £80 per person for shared guided punt. We walked away, guy said negotiate. We said we’ll look elsewhere he dropped to £20 per person which was fine. Punt and sixth former guide were ok, but couldn’t get over what was a disgusting attempt at price gouging.
Excellent tour with informative and engaged guide.
Very good experience with this tour agency. The trip was organized well, timings were managed properly, and the staff stayed helpful throughout the journey. The guide was knowledgeable and made the tour more enjoyable.
Very pleasant and good quality tour. We've learned a lot about the University and famous people who used to study or teach there. Really enjoyed it!
I had a lovely experience, lovely information with a historic Tor from the No1 Jacob excellent tour guide 10 out of 10
We booked a private chauffeured tour as a group of 11 to celebrate a birthday. Our guide Omar was fantastic, very informative, friendly and fun.
Excellent, well worth the £64 paid for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, pre-11am, in a shared punt. The weather was fresh but the punt had blankets to sit on and extras for your knees, which were very welcome. Umbrellas also on hand but not needed. (They say they'll go in all weathers!) We were very lucky, our guide was Peter - excellent, excellent, excellent - really knew his stuff and so easy to listen to. Made it very interesting and relatable. Lasted around 50 minutes, not an easy job by the end, as it was quite windy so I think it was hard steering the punt. Lots of punts on the river too. A lovely way to experience the colleges, the bridges, and learn a lot too in a nutshell. So glad we did it, would do it again and hope for sun. Ask for Peter, you won't be disappointed!
You can’t walk along much of the river bank because most of the land is owned by the colleges so a boat trip is really the only way to see the best bits of Cambridge. And we weren’t about to punt ourselves so….! Shout out to Omar who kept us dry(!) and amused.
Highly recommend everyone to do it. Our guide, Charlie from Arizona, was very knowledgeable and made the whole experience very enjoyable.
Our first evening in the beautiful city we made a point of having a punt tour to take in all the vistas from the Cam perspective. And it was wonderful. With a forthcoming punter passing on fascinating history and anecdotes and dealing admirably with queries it was a fabulous introduction to the city. Passing by so many historic colleges including Kings Chapel plus famous bridges, it was a delightful and highly recommendable excursion.
I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Cambridge! It was the perfect way to see Cambridge and especially the university and all of the colleges. Even though it was winter and a bit chilly, they provided blankets & hot water bottles. We had an amazing time! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly! A must do!
Fantastic trip, Charlie made the trip so enjoyable, informative and good interaction with passengers would definitely recommend
Fantastic experienced learned a lot funny and engaging Punter during the tour This was at 15:45, the guy was a joy . Honestly ! Name started with a J I think he had been punting for 6 months and fell two and a quarter times
What can I say absolutely brilliant. David our “punter” was a lovely guy, very informative. We were supplied with umbrellas and blankets. Would recommend this to anyone visiting Cambridge.
Our punter was Sam who had a fantastic knowledge and was able to answer questions that showed he was very capable to go off script. Really enjoyed it and recommend. We noticed some of the other companies the staff were not as smart.
Excellent tour- really relaxing, scenic and informative. A lot of the other boats didn’t seem to be getting told anything- ours was a full history tour with interesting facts and stories. Our young guide Hector was lovely!
