The tour is on the River Cam in Cambrdge, lasting approximately 50 minutes. During this time you will see seven different colleges and nine different bridges, arguably some of the famous famous architecture in this historic city of Cambridge.
Travel under the Bridge of Sighs and the Wren Bridge whilst gliding past St Johns College.
See the New Court (the wedding cake buidling) and the famous Boston Ivy.
The oldest, largest and most prestigious college in Cambridge. Glide past the Wren Library and under Trinity Bridge.
Second-oldest surviving college of the University - glide past the famous Clare Gardens.
World's tallest fan vaulted ceiling.
This college was founded in 1441 by Henry VI - glide past the most iconic sigths in Cambrigde, including the Front Court and Chapel.
This College was founded in 1448 by Margaret of Anjou and refounded in 1465 by the rival queen Elizabeth Woodville. Spanning the river Cam, it is colloquially referred to as the "light side" & the "dark side", with the Mathematical Bridge connecting the two.
A popular fable is that the bridge was designed and built by Sir Isaac Newton without the use of nuts or bolts.

This has to be one of the best things to do in Cambridge. Harry, who did all the hard work, kept us amused and informed as he skilfully and gently took us past colleges, while giving us history and some scandal in a way that was totally in keeping with the leisurely nature of the trip. We had also ordered the Brunch hamper and some soft drinks - sharing some crumbs with cygnets and ducklings. Overall, Harry made sure we had a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable time - given the chance to show somebody else the other side of the colleges, we'd certainly choose Harry or one of his colleagues to take us and our guests.
Really enjoyable trip along the river. Sammy the chauffeur was great. Friendly, knowledgeable and funny. Would highly recommend!
We booked a private punt experience for 4 of us and it was amazing. We had Jake as our “Punter” and he gave an excellent commentary throughout our tour, he’s a credit to your company. It was very relaxing and the weather definitely helped as it was very sunny with a light breeze.
Wonderful experience guide was very informative with a nice sense of humor would recommend venture highly
Said was a wonderful guide and we really enjoyed gliding along seeing Cambridge this way. Would highly recommend this tour.
Took my other half on this trip today for her birthday. Ryan, was our tour guide, who was brilliant and funny. We loved it and would recommend to anyone. We'd 100% do it again
The tour guide was very very conservative with words to put it politely. Rarely spoke only when we asked him .
Booked an early evening private Tour with my daughter. Special treat after her summer studies. Ben R made it enjoyable with special historical insight on all the different colleges. So great to laugh along the way- he made the trip stand out for sure. Five Stars!
This was a great way to spend an evening. Our tour guide Gemma was really friendly and had good knowledge of both the city and the university. The river was quite busy as it was such a nice day, but she was able to navigate the punt well and avoid any collisions!
We went for a private punt, where Noah was in charge of navigating and sharing with us a really insightful overview of the river and key sites. We really enjoyed it, the boat was clean and comfortable with blankets in case of weather change. We were fortunate to book a beautiful sunny morning and with the first slot of the day, the river was so quiet and peaceful. A huge thank you to Noah for being an amazing host, very friendly and answered all our questions. We took our dog on board too which was an added bonus, overall I would highly recommended!
Oli was an amazing guide, a font of knowledge. He managed to keep his enthusiasm, humour and entertain us despite the rain.
Brilliant experience punting, even on a cold and windy April afternoon. Our Punter was Jasper. Just the 4 of us on the boat which was great. Jasper was very informative and pleasant, he encouraged us to ask questions and we had a really good tour experience. Would highly recommend.
Such a fun afternoon celebrating a friends birthday! We had a private tour with really friendly guide and lots of interspersed information!
We had an ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL tour we had with Zac yesterday. Knowledgeable, personable and wonderfully charismatic .. he really made the tour what it was with a little help from some great weather .. SUNSHINE ON TAP 🎉🎉🎉💯
Imagine floating serenely on a river in glorious sunshine; sipping champagne with your closest friends and absorbing not only the amazing scenery but also the entertaining and informative commentary from a fantastic ‘punter’ Benjie - and that was us only yesterday! A magical memory of Cambridge which we hope to repeat again. ..The 4 Herefordians.
Fabulous wet/ dry punting experience for 11 friends with Lochlan from Australia. In brilliant sunshine he gave us a detailed history and information about the colleges and places we passed en route. Brollies were provided for the scattered showers but were no match for the final downpour were we came off marginely better than our poor chaffeur. What a star he was, would recommend him as a tour guide. Top man. Thank you.
Just completed a guided private punt tour in Cambridge- it was excellent and our guide Nick was great - knowledgeable and funny, and took some lovely photos for us. Thoroughly recommend.
An highly recommended tour. The trip was idyllic and Dan woods was an excellent guide. Boat was very comfortable. We went out at 10:30 which was an excellent time as the Cam wasn’t too busy.
I would definitely recommend the Traditional Punting Company along with Daniel Woods our guide. The whole trip was amazing, beautiful scenery, historic sites and calm waters. We saw a different side to Cambridge brought to life by Dan. He also gave us some excellent recommendations which we also very much enjoyed. Thank you for a magical, memorable experience.
Most enjoyable tour. Alex Blake gave us an excellent talk very interesting and informative. We were amazed to learn that it was only his second day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our private punting tour with our excellent guide Cameron, even the weather cooperated and it was fascinating to learn some of the rich history of Cambridge and its Colleges. This would have been a five star review if not for the young lady who initially "greeted" us at the dock area, she was very unfriendly, unhelpful and unsmiling, we got more information from a man from a competing company. When we arrived I said "hello, we have a booking at 6:15 for a private tour" and she cut me off and said "come back five minutes before and you cannot wait here, go somewhere else".... I worked in tourism for longer than she has.... terrible first impression and not at all indicative of the actual experience which is a pity, if we had not had a prepaid reservation we would have gone elsewhere. Can't recall her name but I can guarantee the company knows who it was...
First time in taking to the river in Cambridge...Especially as my wife and I have said numerous times when visiting we should experience a traditional punt along the river... This company for us were customer focused along with being very friendly and professional... Our main man at the helm was Jasper...What a fantastic guide and would book him every time (if we could).... Would book with this company again... Just fantastic and thank you... The TOWIE Couple...Jasper you know who we are...
What a great experience! It was lovely gliding down the river guided by our expert punter Noah who regaled us with facts and stories about the surrounding iconic structure. Thank you Noah!
Our punting tour with Noah was excellent! He was friendly, told us some interesting facts about the colleges and landmarks, and navigated the Cam with ease!
We had a brilliant punting experience on Friday 29th July which departed from Jesus Green. The tour guide (sadly we didn’t catch his name but we know he was studying the side effects of chemo and is doing a PHD!) was absolutely brilliant! He was extremely knowledgeable, shared brilliant facts as we travelled and was also very charismatic and funny. We were a mixed family group with ages ranging from 4-66 and we all loved it. Highly recommend this company.
I don’t know where to start, but what an excellent experience. Full of history and facts, very knowledgeable and had a great laugh. It was relaxing, with the amazing skills to avoid other punters I felt totally safe. I have a massive fear of birds and there was no problem with the birds either. Amazing views. The private tour was the best way for the group of 5 of us to enjoy the experience. Would definitely book with the traditional punting co again when I visit. Top mark. Thank you Matt (I think it was). The access on and off the punt was easy even though low down and was very comfortable.
Really organised, ladies at the boarding point were great and really friendly. We booked a private tour with a picnic, food was a nice touch and our guide Jack C was knowledgable with some nice little quirky facts! Would recommend. 👍🏻
Our flight was cancelled by British Airways and we had to reschedule our punting tour. Grace, from Traditional Punting Company, was so kind and gracious. She rescheduled our tour, and we had mistakenly booked two boats instead of the one that was needed, so she refunded us for one boat. Couldn't ask for better service!
What a way to travel! We loved our trip. We booked over the phone which was really easy and we thought the price was reasonable. We had been advised that walking down to the punt stations and haggling on price might get you a better deal but we were happy with what we paid. You pay less for a shared tour but a private tour seems so much more personal. Our chauffeur Sam was excellent. Very welcoming, knowledgable and funny. The boat was comfortable and there were blankets if required. We got a solid 45-50 minutes as advertised. I would recommend this company to anyone. It’s such an amazing experience and definitely one of the best ways to see Cambridge. Thanks Sam.
Very relaxing, lovely sites. Interesting stories about the history of the colleges. The punter was friendly & we were made to feel welcome & comfortable. He even went above & beyond to return ou teenage daughters mobile phone. Thank you
This was our first time punting and very happy we went with this company. The tour was interesting and took in a lot of historical sights and locations of Cambridge, punting is a must when visiting Cambridge. Thank you to our guide Ben, who was informative as well as funny and good humoured. It was a great experience.
I’ve never been punting before or to Cambridge. So, this was a real treat and it didn’t disappoint in terms of what the river and scenery could offer. Utterly beautiful- the autumn leaves and the lovely sunshine were just perfect. Unfortunately, our punter literally overtook every boat ahead of us and turned around early - he was very nice and entertaining but we lost 10 mins of an expensive possibly once in a lifetime trip.
Well worth it, we had a private punt with our guide Tom. He was great he was very knowledgeable about the sights. We also went for a deli grazing box which was massive and really delicious. Overall a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Totally recommend
We had a thoroughly enjoyable trip ,which was skilfully and knowledgeably chauffeured by Harry - an absolute must for any first time visitors
We booked to do private tour as Family of 6. Easy to book, kept informed with email and text. Very friendly girl when we arrived introduced us to Maddie who was a great guide, knowledgeable, kind and the best person to hold the pole!! We all had a great time and can definitely recommend this to anyone that is thinking of doing it.
Outstanding trip with a well informed guide . I would highly recommend . This was our first time in Cambridge and this was the highlight of a great visit . Thank you
What an amazing experience! Charles was our tour guide on the put down the Cam. Funny, knowledgeable and such a great fun. A must to use this company.
Charles was fab! So good to hear all the history. We had such a good time. The weather was gorgeous and it was fab to have some drinks on the river too. Thank you 😊
Wonderful time with this company. Charles was knowledgeable, friendly and with a great sense of humour! Great experience for a hen do!
Had a brilliant punt today with Charles. He was awesome, knowledgeable, funny and heeded our request of stopping at the river bar. Couldn’t ask for better. Highly recommend asking for him personally.
Our guide and punter was great! Lots of information and history, we all had a wonderful ride The traditional punting company were great
Despite the rain, we had a lovely relaxing trip down The Cam. It's a really chilled experience. Could have lasted a little longer, but the company was well organised and we left the riverside on time.
My family and I went on the punting tour with Maddie and she was so friendly and knowledgeable. She made the experience very interesting and special, even helping other punters when they lost their pole! Lovely sights and just the right amount of time on the tour :)
I visited Cambridge for the first time for my 21st birthday with my mum and sisters this week, I was gifted this private punting experience for my birthday and it couldn’t have been better! James G was our chauffeur for the tour and he was absolutely wonderful, very informative and lovely to talk to, he made it an experience to remember!!
Charles was a great chauffeur, very knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. First time punting and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely recommend having a chauffeur as opposed to trying yourself. Charles was brilliant and we had a great evening!
Arthur was a great punting chauffeur (both in knowledge and in looks). I’ll be moving to Cambridge in October and I’m hoping he will guide me to a bar or two? Contact Abbie from Monday 19th July for my number
Charles delivered a perfect tour and made it an outstanding outing. If Top Gun had an academy for punters he would be there….
Visited on the 19th July with a group of friends, Arthur was a fab guide and definitely made our day!
Arthur gave us a fantastic tour of the sights in Cambridge! It was a guided tour with friends and he was very funny and very informative!
