Mark was a fantastic tour guide, who was funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgable. Of the 30 walking tours I've done, this was by far the best.

Without doubt the best city tour we have done, and we've done a few. The reason for this was entirely down to our guide Marc, who engaged with us in a humorous manner, and provided a lot of interesting information about the Cambridge colleges, while interacting with the whole group. The 2 hours flew by. We strongly recommend him if you wish to book a Cambridge tour. Roddy and Lynn
Paul was excellent, knowledgeable, interesting, personable, knows his apostrophes and like Monty Python! Unrushed, full of interesting anecdotes a wonderful enjoyable 2 hours. Thanks Paul
We did a free walking tour of Cambridge with Mark. It was fun and informative with lots of interesting stuff. He was very engaging, there were 8 of us in the group he remembered our names and where we came from. Mark kept us laughing and learning- don’t forget the owls of Cambridge!!
We had a walking tour with Mark. I know this might sound like a cliché, but Mark, who is a historian and history teacher, guided us on a perfect tour through Cambridge. Tour was extremely interesting, carefully curated and fun, fun! In the 2+ hours, Mark told and showed hidden and public info in a very energetic, friendly and witty way. We'll intact Mark surely if we go to Cambridge again, all warm recommendations for Mark,
Our guide Mark is so informative from English’s history to the Cambridge. He introduced the history, founder, and famous scientists of prestigious colleague. We enjoys a great tour with Mark!
We were fortunate enough to have Mark as our guide for a private two-hour walking tour, and he was absolutely wonderful! As a Cambridge alumnus with a PhD in History, Mark was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many fascinating insights, but what truly made the experience special was the warm, engaging, and lighthearted way he brought everything to life. Our group ranged from grandparents in their 70s to a five-year-old child, and Mark somehow managed to keep everyone interested and involved throughout the entire tour. He did far more than simply share facts,he connected with each person and made the experience enjoyable and memorable for all of us. The most meaningful moment came when Mark helped my father, who attended Cambridge and was a member of Trinity College in the 1960s, return to the college and see it up close again. It meant more to him than we can express. He could not stop talking about it afterward, and it is a memory he will treasure forever. Thank you, Mark, for such an unforgettable experience and for going above and beyond for our family. Even our ten-year-old left saying she now wants to attend Cambridge one day! This was a 5 star tour!
We had an absolutely fantastic free walking tour of Cambridge with Anna. She was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the city’s history, sharing fascinating stories and hidden details .Anna has a wonderful way of bringing Cambridge to life with her enthusiasm, humour, and clear explanations. The tour was full of interesting facts about the university, its traditions, famous alumni, and the city’s beauty.
Mark is knowledgeable, passionate and has a great sense of humour. He explained each location and the historic figures associated to it well. He personalised the tour and made us laugh a lot. Its quite a bit of a walk and time spent on learning - so be prepared!
Mark was amazing!! Excellent sense of humour and impressive knowledge on a variety of history. Really recommend.
So grateful to have done this tour with Mark. He was a 5* legend, the witty banter made the tour more enjoyable and memorable. Showed us many hidden gems and told us stories behind many overlooked sites. Was especially nice to hear about the history of women in Cambridge. Cannot recommend enough!
We had a wonderful time on our Cambridge walking tour with Rita. As a current PhD student, she provided a phenomenal insider's perspective on the university's unique college system. It was especially helpful to hear her breakdown of the admissions process and listen to her own personal experiences navigating it. She was incredibly engaging and more than happy to answer all of our questions with comprehensive, thoughtful information. I shouldn't forget to mention a lot of Cambridge's history and funny facts as well. Highly recommend!
Solomon was a very engaging guide. A student of Cambridge University, he was able to tell us some interesting facts and anecdotes about the famous town. Highly recommended tour!
Fab tour with Mark who educated and entertained us for 2 hours. We have been on many walking tours but this one was a gem and Mark was clearly the reason. We both especially appreciated the discussion about how the university college system works ( we sat down in a church for this ). Mark was amusing and informative and highly recommended.
Mark was a fantastic & entertaining guide. Extremely knowledgeable & engaged with all the group from young children , older people & even our dog, who was also made very welcome. We learnt such a lot about Cambridge & the colleges.
Wonderful private tour with a current student. She provided lots of details about the town and student life.
Did the Cambridge tour with Mark!! Nobody except for me showed up becaues of the weather. What an amazing guide, really enjoyed it! Would recommend it to everyone.
Mark has provided an amazing tour of Cambridge city alongside Kings and Trinity College. Hands down, one of the best tours I have ever had the pleasure of going. Mark did amazing job engaging with my 9 and 12 year old nephews.
I took my two boys to Cambridge to arouse their interest in college life in the UK and so I booked a tour of the university with Mark. It would be an understatement that the tour didn't disappoint. Mark was an absolutely fantastic host - funny, informative and accommodating. He was well prepared and tailored his presentation to my boys' interest in physics and chemistry. We discussed a lot of university history and the college life in general. I would wholeheartedly recommend Mark to anyone who wants to learn more about the Cambridge university.
We were family of four booked online. The tour was conducted by Cambridge’s own students, which is really cool. The free 2 hour tour is in depth enough for the time. The tour guide is friendly and accomodating to all sorts of questions. Overall a nice quick tour of a few colleges which includes Pembroke, trinity and Kings. We also visited Professor Hawkings old accommodation. Really cool.
Our lovely guide Lucy was enthusiastic knowledgeable and very friendly. We were very happy with our 2 hour private tour in her capable hands
Mark was exceptionally professional and truly made our day! From first meeting up with him we knew that he would be informative but we'd also be jesting with him for the full duration of two hours! His knowledge of all things Cambridge was massively insightful and his take on the different colleges was truly enlightening! I personally like the details how women were repressed but came back and took their rightful place within the various colleges! If you want to take in history with a smile then Mark won't hold back! Thank you from two Leeds heathens!
My friend and I did the Footprints Tour with Mark on Sat 21 Feb. He generously gave us well over 2 hours of his fabulously entertaining repartee and splendid company. He delivered his considerably knowledgeable & informative 'lecture' with aplomb, huge exuberance and good humour and it was both uplifting and extremely interesting. Obviously one of those people who love their subject, love what they do and inspire those who are privileged to listen to them. It was learning with fun which is always the best way and I am genuinely pleased how much I can recall. He bought to life what I imagine could be a pretty dry and stuffy information in such a fun and hilarious way - this guy should be on the stage. He really made us laugh. If you are looking for a walk around Cambridge to learn a bit about the place, whilst being really entertained by some great stories and the added benefit of seeing parts and sights not visited by other guides then this is the walk for you. Enjoy - I know we did.
I took the Footprints Cambridge tour today with Mark as my tour guide, and I had an amazing time! Not only was Mark incredibly informative, but he was also deeply engaging and made each person feel special. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see the city’s highlights with a fun and knowledgeable guide.
Our tour with Mark was educational and extremely entertaining. He was a lovely guide and very knowledgeable, and he really brought the city to life for us. Absolutely recommend! P.s. if you are Mark's mom, don't worry, he is doing a wonderful job
Paul was an amazing guide! He really knows his subject et knows how to speak about it. We really enjoyed this tour and the time flies! I highly recommend this company
Serena, the Ph.D. Art history student, was an excellent tour guide! She was incredibly knowledgeable about Cambridge in general but knew a plethora of specifics, enough to make the tour incredibly entertaining! We liked her a lot and she tried to personalize our tour as much as she could.
We did this walking on a bitterly cold, but sunny day in November with Sonya. Sonya was an excellent guide , really knowledgeable and interesting . We have been to Cambridge many times , but never done a tour , and we learnt so much more . We were lucky there were only 4 on the tour , ( although not so lucky for Sonya ) so we were really grateful that the tour was cancelled ( as less than 8). Highly recommended
We highly recommend the day trip from London to Cambridge and Ely Cathedral with Footprints Tours. Having this as a small group tour, made it more personal than a big bus tour. Our driver, Fred, was courteous and friendly. We were transported to Cambridge in a new and luxurious van. Our Cambridge guide, Mark, was very informative and humorous. Cambridge and Ely Cathedral has so much history and incredible architecture and should not be missed.
We had a wonderful private walking tour of Cambridge with Sibylle. As an alumni of the college, she shared the school's history along with interesting and fun anecdotes of her time there. She was very knowledgable, and also warm and charming. We highly recommend this tour!
Great 2 hr walking tour of Cambridge Colleges. Our guide, Paul, was really good. Witty but knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
Great historical tour. Mark was engaging, knowledgeable, and personable. Learned a lot in a fun way!
Very informative and enjoyable, would definitely recommend if you want to know the ins and outs of Cambridge universities and the many interesting facts along the way!
We would highly recommend this tour if you're visiting Cambridge. Sonya was an amazing guide and an informative and humerous communicator. She passed on detailed information about the history of Cambridge, the University, all of the colleges, and many of the personalities involved. If we'd tried to wander around Cambrige aimlessly on our own, we'd have missed out on so much. Thank you, Sonya.
From my mother - Margaret. I loved the tour, enjoyed all the stories, the architecture and all that Mark showed us. Mom writes: "it was a torrent of lovely information" with a "theme of history repeats". Our tour guide was an Art Historian with a PhD. Highly recommend the tour and Mark.
Paul was an excellent and entertaining tour guide. He has that English self-deprecation that is so charming. And he filled the tour with real “meat.” no fluff here—this man knows his subject. I feel like we came away with a new appreciation for the intellectual and physical beauty that characterizes Cambridge University.
We did the free tour with Mark. It was a brilliant 2 hour dive into history, laced with humor and lots of really interesting anecdotes. Mark is a natural entertainer who has a great knowledge of the town and university. Totally recommend this tour.
We did the 2hr tour with Mark. He was incredibly engaging, knowledgeable, witty and fun. He has a passion for bringing history to life which made it enjoyable. We highly recommend his tour. Cheers from the Texans.
Mark was brilliant- engaging, entertaining and informative. We explored many hidden gems and loved every minute!.Highly recommend.
Thank you very much, Paul, for such an enjoyable and interesting guided tour. We were fascinated by the stories who told us about the colleges and loved walking around the city, over the Cam and past the backs of colleges.
Most informative guide with excellent and responsive presentation skills highly recommended. A comprehensive tour
We had the pleasure of taking a private family walking tour of Cambridge University with Mark, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Mark is incredibly informative, sharing the history and stories of the colleges with such depth and clarity that every stop came alive for us. What made it even more special was his wonderful personality—kind, affectionate, and delightfully witty. He made our family feel comfortable, engaged our children with patience, and had us smiling throughout with his humor. His warmth and intelligence turned the walk into more than just a tour—it felt like being guided by a friend who loves and understands Cambridge deeply. We are grateful for his time and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone wishing to experience the true spirit of Cambridge.
Tour guide was knowledgeable and welcoming. Reserved for two people. Well planned and detailed tour. Would recommend highly and book again.
Highly recommend this tour. Marc was a terrific guide who knows loads and loads of interesting stuff. Oh, and if you're Marc's mum trying to see what he's up to, I can assure you he's a half-way respectable adult. By and large.
Our guide Serena was friendly and knowledgeable. It was her first time leading a Free Tour in Cambridge on 30 July 2025, and she did a great job. The tour lasted an hour and a half instead of two hours, and she walked quite fast. A bit more detail would have been welcome, but overall it was an enjoyable experience.
Our daughter had gone on this tour in March and liked it very much. We went in July and it was one of the best walking tours we've ever been on, anywhere, hanss down.
The walking tour of Cambridge with Kings College Chapel was one of the most amazing and memorable tours we have taken in long time. Thanks to the extremely knowledgeable tour guide Mark. He was amazingly sharp, humorous, and kept every single person in the audience involved. We did not even feel that the tour was 2 hours long.
Every minute with our guide, Paul, was magical. He gave us a very detailed history, which really impressed upon us Cambridge’s extraordinary intellectual pedigree. He also shared funny anecdotes and general good humor. A memorable experience — our best day yet on this trip!
You can tell when someone LOVES and therefore EXCELS at what they do. We were so lucky to have been allocated Mark. He is the embodiment of British wit, humour and charisma. We were hanging on his every word from the start. I have been to Cambridge a few times before but today, Mark uncovered for me the tales less told makes this University town much more than just the students, colleges and buildings. 2 hours very well spent. Would recommend for anyone looking for an intro to Cambridge!
Mark was the best guide we had on our London and Paris trip! His historical knowledge of all the colleges and Cambridge was unmatched. Mark delivered really interesting stories with wit and humor that made the trip enjoyable. Our teenage daughters loved his tour which is not an easy task! We had to get a picture with our favorite tour guide
