It is set in a lovely rural village with some pleasant walks from the pub (seems wrong to call it a pub, more of a restaurant with rooms I think, but it does have a bar). Staff were excellent throughout. Room was very good value, there were a few little bits in it that needed a bit of maintenance such as a wobbly tap but this did not affect our stay. Food was great. Overall would gladly return. Have already recommended it to somebody yesterday who was looking for somewhere like this.

We recently held our intimate wedding dinner at The Packhorse Inn after our registry office ceremony, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue. From the very beginning, Gabby was incredible. Her communication throughout the planning process was excellent, making everything feel easy and stress-free. We started with pre-drinks before moving into the private dining room for our meal with 20 guests. The food was absolutely outstanding, and every single guest commented on how delicious it was. All of the meals arrived together, which is no easy feat for a group, and every dietary requirement was catered for perfectly without any issues. The staff were fantastic throughout the day—friendly, attentive and genuinely accommodating. They made us feel completely at ease, allowed us to play our own music, and helped create such a relaxed and special atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Our guests also stayed overnight, and everyone was so complimentary about the rooms and how well they had been looked after. Thank you to Gabby and the whole team for making our wedding celebration so memorable. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Packhorse Inn for anyone looking to host a special occasion
Excellent service and food. Staff very helpful, polite and attentive. Very nice dining room. The room we were in (Plantation) was more shabby chic than luxury. Needed better housekeeping : curtain was detached from a couple of rings on the pole, there was a large tear & stain on the ottoman. Also there was no handsoap at the wash basin. But the bed was very comfortable with quality linen and good pillows and both the bedroom and bathroom were spacious. It was a little noisy too with people dining and drinking in the garden till gone 11pm just below our window and the sash window was tricky to close. The next morning we were awoken just before 8am by a noisy refrigerated lorry parked on the lane outside the window where it sat for some time. We enjoyed the dining experience at the Packhorse but not convinced we'd stay overnight again. Certainly not in the Plantation room anyway.
What a delightful lunch, for my birthday. The highlight for me was the lamb, cooked to Michelin star standard. Crushed new potatoes with feta, olives and basil , with sun dried tomato - delicious. Excellent focaccia. My husband enjoyed the arctic roll with raspberries and sorbet. I started with a classic champagne cocktail which isn't on the menu, but made specially for me. The service was excellent. The decor is all you would hope for in a boutique hotel/ restaurant. Also pleasing that you can pop in just for a drink in the bar or garden. A great chef is essential to the success of this type of business and he didn't disappoint 🙌
What an amazing find! We’ve done the Three Churches Walk several times, but despite how lovely the pub always looked, we’d never stopped in before. We decided to visit for a Saturday evening meal. Having already been to The Three Blackbirds, which is run by the same company, we thought we’d give The Packhorse Inn a try. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The service was spectacular. The team were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, with just the right level of attention throughout. We mainly chose dishes from the specials menu, and the locally sourced steak was the best I’ve ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection. The pub itself is beautifully decorated and feels both cosy and spacious, with our table indoors overlooking the lovely village green. They even had Hawkstone on tap, which is my partner’s favourite and something you rarely find in most pubs. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we’ll definitely be back soon, especially for their meat night on the last Friday of the month! (Can’t rate rooms as did not stay overnight)
