The only single column marks the site of what was once a huge and elaborate temple, which was constructed of marble and decorated with precious metals on the interior. Some of the tunnels around the complex remain and are open for tourists to explore and some of the artifacts from the temple have been recovered. A life-size black basalt bull from the temple and a golden plaque marking the foundation of the Serapis are on display in the Greco-Roman Museum. Qaitbay Citadel :Sultan Qaitbey built this picturesque fortress during the 14th century to defend Alexandria from the advances of the Ottoman Empire. His efforts were in vain since the Ottomans took control of Egypt in 1512, but the fortress has remained, strategically located on a thin arm of land that extends out into Alexandria’s harbor from the corniche.
The Arabic name translates to English as “the mound of potshards”, referring to the broken dishes and plates that marked the area before the tombs were discovered below. This extensive complex of impressively decorated tombs dates from the Roman Era and are considered as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages”.
Standing on the Alexandrian Corniche, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a vast and striking example of modern 21st century architecture, but the building recalls something much older. The library and cultural center were inaugurated in 2002 as part of a huge project to commemorate the city of Alexandria’s legacy as an ancient center of world learning and culture. (Bibleotheca Alexandrina closed on Friday)

We have a great time and a lot of fun for this trip. Our tourist guide Mohamed Elkoumi was super nice. He spoke fluent English. Fun and warm and humorous. He gave us good advice and made our trip full of laughs and enjoyment.
Mr. Ahmed was great company on our day trip to Alexandria. He was accommodating to our request to leave a little later as we just arrived to the country. He had great knowledge of the city of Alexandria and the general history of Egypt. We had great fun and he watched my kids like a grandpa!
We had a wonderful 2 week trip for Cairo to Alexandria to Aswan and Nile cruise and then Hurghada. We had Mohamed as a tour guide in Cairo and Alexandria and Abdul from Aswan to Luxor. Both were fabulous. So kind and attentive and very, very knowledgeable All were private tours and well done. Abdul was so educated and caring. Thank you so much to them all.
We booked a tour as a family with Memphis Tours that came highly recommended by our friends and sure enough we had a great experience with them. We were provided with hotel Pick up and drop and our meals were also taken care off in the total fee that we paid for the service. The communication was always prompt and the guide and the drivers were super punctual and always arrived earlier than the Pick up time. They were polite and courteous. The guides Imad and Ahmed were well versed in the history of each place we visited and gave us a good guided tour. We did a 5 day tour as below in case this is of help to anyone Day 1: Egypt Pyramids Tour & Sakkara Pick up at 9 am duration 7 Hours Day 2: Cairo Nile Dinner Cruise and Show Pick up at 4.45 pm duration 2 hours (7 to 9pm) Day 3: Cairo Sightseeing Tours Pick up at 9 Am duration 7 Hours Day 4: Fayoum Tour from Cairo Full day Duration is about 10 hours (8 am pick up ) Day 5 Tour to Alexandria from Cairo by Car Pick up at 6 Am duration 10 Hours Would highly recommend Memphis Tours. Thank you to the team for a great holiday experience.
Ahmed Zaki of Memphis Tours met us at the Cairo Airport. Our group was transported to the Foyr Seasons in Alexandria. Lufthansa air strike allowed us only one night and day but Ahmed Made sure it was packed with sightseeing He has a tv show which he talks about he History of the area. The best highlight was the catacombs of Kom El Shuqafa Tombs and chambers so well preserved He explained the burial process down a spiral staircase. The Egyptian people are so gracious. Ahmed made sure tickets Were pre purchased arrangement of security guard on our comfortable bus Took us to a wonderful seafood lunch overlooking the Mediterranean with pre reservations
Recent trip to Egypt was enjoyable and had great fun. Trip was organized well and the tour operators and guides were very good. Local people and the staff were very friendly and helped us when we needed them.
My visit to Egypt was organized by Mostafa of Memphis Tours. For over 8 months Mostafa tirelessly worked with me to develop an itinerary of exactly what we wanted to do in Egypt. Mostafa was remarkable in terms of his professionalism, his patience and his total commitment to pleasure us. The package was very affordable and even included a 5 day cruise on the River Nile. We also did Greece, Israel and Jordan though Mostafa and Memphis Tours and we have beautiful, lifelong memories. There were minimal hiccups but his dedication to make our vacation a memorable one he ensured that those matters were promptly resolved. Thanks to Mostafa. Thanks to Memphis Tours
Dr Mohamad was our guide and Mr Imam was our driver. We had a very comfortable tour. Dr Mohamad is such a knowledgeable gentleman and explained everything in details. Both me and wife learnt so much about the history of Alexandria. Mr Imam took us to a fantastic falafel restaurant. He is such a safe driver. We would recommend them both to our friends for sure.
It’s a haul (2.5 hr), but thankfully, the road is good and the scenery is interesting. We stopped 1/2 way there to toilet and purchase Chai tea. There is also a couple neat shops if you are a shopper. Tarek gave us great information and since the bibliotheca was closed for holiday, we saw the Roman catacombs, Roman temple ruins and a substitute of the Citadel (insist on the citadel unless you are a librarian!) After, we had fresh sea bass and rice with a variety of pita bread with garlic whip, babaganoush, and 2kinds of hummus for lunch. We were right on the water and the view was as lovely as the meal. We are age 40s-70s. The steps were steep in a couple locations, but everyone was able to fully participate with a shoulder or arm to lean on for support.
Trip to Alexandria for the day was okay. Our guide was nice and knowledgeable, but everything felt rushed. The library was closed due to it being Friday (my fault for not checking) and it was what I really wanted to see. A long drive for one day. Our guide left us alone for a while which was fine but also strange. We were routed to a papyrus factory back in Cairo after a really long day.....we really just wanted to get back to the hotel. Our guide also too some pictures of us and never sent them to us. For the price this trip was not really worth it.
We have Zein as our tour guide, and he is great! Funny guy, with lots of knowledge. Very passionate about Egypt historical legacy. We really enjoy our tour with Zein! Thank you Zein!
Having a private car, driver and guide is a must to truly see the highlights and we were lucky to have this team on all our excursions including Alexandria. We were able to tailor our trip and get the most of of our day at our own speed. Our driver Mustafa, whom we had during the entire time in Cairo is the best driver. He was able to safely get us through traffic jams without issues. He was very polite, always greeted us with a smile and attentive to our gtoup's needs, ensuring we stayed hydrated and safe exiting the car offering assistance. Our guide Hend, was also very knowledgeable, soft spoken and helped us understand the culture and history of her country. She also helped with special request to see specific sites and also with the best places to shop. In addition, she is a very good photographer and knew exactly where to take the best photos. The ones she took of us will be some of our best memories. I truly believe these two people were the best we could have asked for and we wisb to thank them.
We visited Alexandria with Hend and a driver. It was amazing. Hend went above and beyond during this trip and even took us to her favorite ice cream store. Memphis Tours is the best tour agency we have ever experienced and we have traveled extensively throughout different parts of the world. We highly recommend the Memphis private tours when visiting Egypt.
The visit to the library was awesome and I loved the Citadel as well. Our tradisional lunch was delicious. Thank you Ahmed and our competent driver, Mamdouh.
Hired Memphis tour for additional one day trip in Luxor after our big day. Our private guide Nabil Reda was really amazing. Knowledgeable and patient. We learned so much about history and Egyptian civilization.
The tour was very informative and we got to see all the main sites. We could understand our guide well and the van for the long drive was very spacious! Deen and Bogy our amazing guide and driver brought us lots of water and went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of the whole time!
Dean is an excellent tour guide he is very knowledgeable. The driving to the sites was excellent couldn’t ask for a better tour.
The trip to Egypt organized by Memphis has been unforgettable, the guides, the drivers, the places Everything wonderful, totally and 100% recommendable with Memphis, Ragab, Ahmed, Mohamed anyway I don't want to leave anyone out everything great!!!
Interesting visit to the castle and the old underground library in addition to the New with a collection of printing presses from several different centuries. And worth visiting the Egyptian-Roman catacombs.
There have been some unforeseen and unsolved downfalls that prevent me from classifying this agency with the highest score. Alguns guias excelentes , como Ahmed Gamal e Josef e Ayman. Great drivers like Amine and Acram! But some guides not so efficient!
Fabulous experience, we stayed in Cairo and took the Nile cruise visiting wonderful places like Aswan and Luxor. I thank Rabab for organizing the trip and Sami for always being there in every move. Staff very kind and reliable. Our cruise guide was a super Galal who spoke Italian perfectly and who explained it in a masterful way.
I didn't like the cost benefit. I found that the long distance traveled and waking up too early to meet Alexandria was not worth it. The attractions are not so good to offset the distance and the whole day of walking. We were stuck almost an hour on the road due to the road closure due to fog. Alexandria is very ugly and chaotic. I would not take that ride again if I could do the trip again.
I did not believe that after so many trips I would feel such strong emotions. It seemed to me to travel through time finding myself in the places where ancient history was written. Crossing the desert, visiting the perfectly preserved temples and interacting with the locals has deeply affected me leaving me with indelible memories and a great desire to return. The trip was taken care of in every single detail by my tour operator Rabab Taha of the Memphis tour who perfectly organized all the details from arrival at the airport to the planned movements, hotels, entrances to archaeological sites making everything very simple and pleasant.Rabab Taha was always available where possible to accommodate all our requests to customize the tour making our travel experience truly exceptional.I also thank the guide to the sites speaking in Italian and the travel assistant Hisham with the driver really all very good and kind.
It wasn't what I expected. We went with the expectation of immersing ourselves in the history of Alexander the Great and Cleopatra and stayed gladly little by little. The city itself is not attractive beyond the charm of the library. The guide and driver were great, but not a ride I would recommend.
Everything was perfect: The advice from the trip planning, the support throughout the tour, the logistics and attention of the staff in all the cities visited, the experience and knowledge of the guides, especially Ahmed Mahmoud during the cruise. They made this trip a wonderful and unforgettable experience. We loved everything.
My review is a heartfelt thank you to Gabry who guided us to this interesting city of Alexandria which I highly recommend visiting! Gabry also follows other excursions in Cairo and I recommend asking for him as a guide, prepared and pragmatic in his directions but above all a kind, cheerful, polite, polite, helpful and very helpful person with his advice given by experience and common sense. In short, a truly decent person to whom I wish every luck in his profession!
At the end of our Nile cruise, we decided to take a day to visit Alexandria. Our guide Gabri with excellent preparation, cultured and brilliant on all fronts. He knows the Italian language very well and his friendly demeanor and personal touch made the experience truly enjoyable. He gave us insights into Egyptian history and answered all our questions. I would recommend this beautiful experience! Thanks again Gabri
We deliberately limited the visit to Cairo (Egyptian Museum, Saqqara, Giza, Islamic and medieval Cairo) and Luxor in order to be able to assimilate the monumental areas well We then went to the Fayum oasis to visit the enchanting Wadi al Rayn and the interesting fossil finds of protowhales in the Wadi al Hiltan (Unesco). We were welcomed and looked after by the Memphis tour staff very punctually on all visits. We recommend this tour operator to everyone, very competitive with the Italian ones!!!
We did this tour on the last day, but we also had the pleasure of being accompanied on the Giza and Saqqara tour and the Egyptian museum, citadel and souk in Cairo. Wonderful places, impeccable organization thanks to the van and the smiling and extremely helpful driver. It would not have been the same experience without Hala, our guide, who spoke excellent Italian, introduced and guided us into the local culture present and past. The passion, emphasis and clarity with which he explained impressed us deeply, giving us a truly unforgettable experience. Thanks MT, thanks Hala!!!
It was a very beautiful visit, Alexandria is a city with a lot of history and it was wonderful to be there to learn what it is like today, we were able to see this history in the museum of the current library of Alexandria, which is also a very nice visit . Memphis tours made this tour very comfortable, we were given private transportation, our driver Bessem is a great driver and that is very important because it is a three-hour tour and the traffic between Cairo and Alexandria is very heavy, but Memphis tours chose the best times to travel. The guide Maria was very kind, with her we learned a lot about the current culture in Cairo and Alexandria, about Islam and many other things. The timing of the visits was very well planned. The food in Alexandria is delicious.
It was a truly enjoyable trip in every way, and my family and I had a great time. The prices were great, the seats were gorgeous and the views were stunning. Furthermore, the delivery service deserves more than five stars.
Our experience with Memphis in June this year was incredible! We went on incredible tours, with wonderful guides and all the support we needed to enjoy our vacation.
Top quality service. A whole team of professionals working to make our experience the best. Special mention for Amira, our sales agent and for Nadir (representative), who arranged a check-up to leave the hotel at 3 and rest much better before our flight.
Very far away. 4 hours by car. But the van is comfortable and air-conditioned. The place is beautiful and worth it!!
The entire Memphis team was excellent from the airport reception, all visits (Cairo, Luxor, Assuan, Abu Simbele Alexandria). The guide Hamed was fantastic on our visit to Cairo and Alexandria, always attentive, an excellent storyteller and magnificent photographer 😊 The Representative Abdelrahman was also excellent, always available and Always present from the beginning of our journey to the end! We love our trip, I recommend Memphis 100%.
We traveled to Egypt in October 2020 and the experience was amazing with expert guide, Egyptologist and fluent in Portuguese. Total immersion in this amazing culture with all the support of Memphis Tours even during the pandemic. Security and total care with everything organized from arrival! More than I recommend!
I want to express my gratitude to the entire Memphis Tour team that made our trip to Egypt unforgettable. I recommend them, they exceeded our expectations. I'm sure we'll travel with them again. Thanks to all Raed, the guides and drivers
Great walk! The place is beautiful, the library of Alexandria is wonderful, and in the package is still included a lunch in a very traditional restaurant and with an amazing view!
