We booked a half day guided tour of the Citidel. We were picked up on time by our Guide Hoda and on the way she provided some inciteful information regarding Cairo including history and way of life. We arrived at the Citidel and entered the Mosque. Incredible scale and detail and of course an explanation with lots of interesting facts. We spent a good amount of time and then had a short walk to the military museum. Again Hoda gave a good summary and at no time were we rushed. We returned to our Hotel after a great morning. Would highly recommend Hoda.

The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.

Great experience and very knowledgeable and personable tour guide Bessant! Would highly recommend
Bassant was an excellent guide. We enjoyed our morning!
Very interesting and educational day. Took in the mosque and the military museum. Our guide was very informative and took the time to explain everything with an interesting angle. Thanks for a nice tour.
The tour was great, perfect for our first morning in Cairo. We were picked up at our hotel promptly and the tour took about 3.5 hours. Our guide, Joseph, was very knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. He explained everything and answered all of our questions. He spoke English well and clearly. I would definitely recommend this tour.
We had a fantastic time on this tour. Our guide was Bassant, and I highly recommend her! We were two adults, and she picked us up from our hotel and described the city and neighborhoods on the way to the citadel. She helped us to the ticket counter and we paid with Visa. We spent about 1.5 hours at the citadel with great explanations of the mosques, monuments, culture, history, and the police museum. She is very knowledgeable of history. We had time afterwards to cater our visit and chose to visit the church of St Simon, for an extra 20 USD per person. We felt very safe with her and our driver Mario. It was a great experience and wish we had more time with them but had to leave for an event. It is clear they would add on more time for a small fee if we wanted to see other areas.
Cairo is a city rich with history. But, too often viaitors jump from major attraction to major attraction without getting the context. Simone is a great guide, who provides that critical context, so you understand not just “what” you are looking at, but the historical “why” context. With 8 centuries of history, the Citadel has served numerous roles, and is also an incredible showcase of Islamic architecture. Upon Simone’s suggestion, we added a visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization a unique museum housing the sarcophagi of 20 Egyptian pharaohs. I recommend this tour and, in particular, Simone as a guide.
Traveled as a solo female traveler, and requested for female guide if possible. They managed to arrange it with Hager. 😀 The tour with her was easy going, and she filled me in with stories of the past, history of the churches etc. I had an enjoyable day with her, and really appreciated her knowledge on the churches!
A great day! Initially our tour was to only visit the Mosque of Muhammed Ali. We paid a bit extra as we still had the rest of the day and wanted to see the other mosques in the area. We also visited the Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan and Al-Rifa’i Mosque. A huge thankyou to our tour guide, Hoda, who made this day extra special. Her knowledge, kindness and patience made our day even better. She was great company, and made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend this tour if you’re ever in Cairo and want to visit the mosques in the citadel and explore the histories of them.
Hoda was a wonderful guide. She explained things clearly with just the right amount of detail. She was also sensitive to all our needs in terms of pace , heat and water. The balance of tour and free time was just right and she was flexible. The Citadel with it's beautiful mosque was breathtaking with wonderful views over the city. Hoda was happy to take as many photos of us as we wanted, and waited patiently while we took our own photos. We asked to do a shorter tour of the Citadel so that we could also visit the Qualawun complex, with its beautiful mausoleum, in El Moez St. I would definitely use Hoda as a guide again.
The tour was great. They picked us up from the hotel and the tour took about 3 hours. The guide, Hoda, was very helpful and courteous. She explained everything and answered our questions. She spoke English well and clearly. She also gave us suggestions on other places to visit and resturants for authentic food. She was just great! The driver, Muhammad, was also great. I would definitely recommend this for others.

Good way to spend a few hours, the citadel and the mosques inside are impressive. Mario is an excellent and informative guide. We finished early as we made good time, so he offered to keep exploring the area since we still had time left; definitely very helpful.
We used Twitter Egypt Travel for many trips. On of the was a day trip to Alexandria. It was my husband dream to visit the city of Cleopatra and Alexander the great. 2 Marios accompanied us to our trip: Mario our driver and Mario our tour guide. It was a custom trip based on our site preferences. We visited the catacombs, the library of Alexandria and the Citadel. We stopped to have a nice lunch in a seafood restaurant on the Mediterranean sea. It was a great day. Mario x 2 did a fantastic job and were very reliable and ensured we had a great time. Thank you Mario and Mario for an unforgettable day. Mary & Stephane from Canada.
Our tour was great. Dina our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were given time to explore and take pictures. Thank you for a wonderful tour.
Great tour of Citadel and old Cairo by Mario and Kyro behind the wheel. Got picked up on time at hotel and first went toy he Egyptian Civilization museum where Mario gave a very detailed explanation of the acient Egypt. Then we went to Citaled where he showed me the on-site mosque and the tumb of Mohammed Ali along with his amhaiotry, very detailed which is expected from a very professional tour guide 100% recommended
Twitter Egypt Travel and Gina did a wonderful job planning our private tour of the Citadel. Gina really knows her history and took care of us every step of the way. The driver provided was also very professional. We learned so much more than if we had tried to do on our own.
Theresa my guide was absolutely wonderful. I was a little nervous traveling as a solo female and having a guide completely put my mind at ease. I didn’t have to think about anything at all, I was picked up from my hotel and learned the history and had a fantastic experience. Would book again.
Wonderful arrangement by Twitter Travel. They gave us a wonderful tour of Cairo. Our guide Dina was amazing and knowledgeable. We learned so much from her. Our driver Mario got us around everywhere safely. We highly recommend Twitter Travel if you are in Cairo!
We used Twitter Egypt Travel (liaising with Isaac) to arrange a private half-day tour of the Cairo Citadel after previously having excellent experiences with his VIP airport meet & greet and other private car-transfer services. All of these private tours can be done at whatever time you want. This was the first Twitter Egypt Travel tour we had done with an actual guide. Our guide was called Mario (we had also had another excellent driver on the previous days called Mario - they are 2 separate people. One only drives, the other is a tour guide but doesn't drive). Tour guide Mario was excellent. He was knowledgeable, friendly, spoke very good English, was very obliging, helped us take some cool photos, and accompanied us throughout the tour without being overbearing. He provided interesting information and also left us on our own to explore; the perfect balance. In the car on the way back, he also introduced us to some Egyptian music, playing all kinds of genres and artists on the trip back to Giza. Thank you Mario, the driver (I think his name was Hemy?) and Isaac for a wonderful half-day tour experience. The mosques at the Citadel were just stunning. Highly recommended.
Mario ,our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He made the visit enjoyable and interesting. It is definitely a memorable moment. We recommend him for future visits.
We had Mario and he was INCREDIBLE!!! I can’t praise him enough! He went above and beyond what a normal Private Guide would do and I’m forever grateful! Mario was knowledgeable and personable with us and made us feel so safe and welcome in Cairo! We even booked him for the rest of our trip!
Depth of knowledge, ability to make discerning choices to fit available time. Kindness. Generosity. Compassion. Great start teller. Relates time lines and events drawing connections. .....most excellent.
Our guide Hoda was very educated about the Cairo citadel and the military museum! She answered all our questions with ease and she made sure to show us all the best/artifacts. Thank you for making our day trip so informative AND entertaining!
Hoda was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and informative. Our van was clean and comfortable. Good value!
My guide was Mario and he did a good job, was very polite, friendly and knowledgeable. He picked me up from my hotel on time. The car was nice, clean and air conditioned, the driver was driving very well. The guide provided a good tour, told interesting information and also took cool pictures of me. I recommend this tour.
Mario did a great job on the tour. Having a private driver and guide is the way to go in Egypt. I would hilt recommend Mario as a guide.
Efficient and Organized. Mario was Knowledgeable, friendly and a joy to be with. Mario answered my questions in Detail . The Whole Trip was relaxed . Highly recommended.
The Citadel is really awesome (in the true sense of the word) and a sight that really should not be missed while in Cairo. The Mohammad Ali mosque (also called the Alabaster Mosque) is fabulous and the views from the hilltop are great. Nour gave us a wonderful tour, providing a lot of terrific history and stories along the way. She was punctual and the driver was very good. Really glad we went on this tour!
Nour was a great guide, and Hassan a wonderful driver. Nour pointed out a lot of interesting sites on the drive to the Citadel. She knew a lot of history about the country and the Citadel and explained a lot to us. It is a beautiful and richly historic sight that should not be missed.
My favorite part of the tour was how informed our guides were, so much knowledge and explanations into what we were seeing and observing. I love the conversation and the adventurous stories of the great pyramids and the Kings, and Kingdoms. Isaac our tour guide was very attentive and made us feel so special, everything was amazing.
We had a great experience with our guide Michael at the Citadel. It was beautiful and he was very knowledgeable about the history.
Aya was a great guide! Very knowledgeable. She’s super smart! We had the best time with her. She really made visiting Cairo a blast!
Unforgettable and enriching experience. Hoda is simply wonderful and very professional. I recommend her with my eyes closed.👌
