Cairo: Local Markets & Khan El Khalili Private Shopping Tour

We booked in good faith with Viator. The local guy never showed up so the Hotel called him. He said it was a different time for the meeting so we agreed to meet him at that time… perhaps it was a mistake in communication on their part. At the 2nd appointed time he never showed up again. We called no answer, we texted no answer. He ghosted us. I contacted Viator for a refund which was rejected. 45 minutes after the appointment time he called and said he would come by for the excursion. By that time we had already engaged in another activity. He said well we could come another day except we had no other days to go. It was a complete rip off.

I had a nice shopping tour with Kareem. He took me to a spice shop where I was able to pick up some requested spices for a friend, and we also visited Khan el-Khalili. He made the market much easier to navigate and helped me find a shop where I could buy souvenirs for my family. Kareem was very friendly, easy to talk to, and had good conversation throughout the tour. He was a nice person overall, and I would recommend booking the shopping tour with him.

Very informative and friendly walk around the Khan el-Khalili area, great insights into architecture and ended at Bab al-Futuh which was a nice surprise! Absolutely great way to 'feel' the real Cairo

Mohamed Khames (Mo) was an absolute legend tour guide- he was so enthusiastic, had a genuine passion and good knowledge on Egyptian culture and history. We did a tour of the markets with him and despite us booking last minute, he communicated promptly and was so accommodating. Our driver, Mariam, and Mo picked us up in a clean car, and Mo thoroughly briefed us on what to expect when going through the spice markets, and Khan el Khalili to stay safe. We enjoyed all the information on the architecture, he gave us plenty time to browse at our own pace, and enjoyed the tour of the mosque. Mo was so kind, attentive, and had great local suggestions, got us some amazing sugarcane juice, and overall had amazing English and was very well spoken. He curated a tour that was well suited to our interests and we would definitely recommend him as a tour guide!

Kareim is a very good tour guide and knowledgeable about the areas we visited. He also knew the right places to shop for souvenirs and protected me from being harassed. His driver was also very good and I felt safe with him driving through the busy streets downtown. I highly recommend this tour.

I requested a female guide. My guide was a 25 year old male who spoke too loudly and hovered over me. I felt suffocated. I do not feel he was a professional tour agent. I requested that I end my experience early and they took me back to my hotel.

My tour guide Hamad was very helpful and knowledgeable. I felt very safe as he showed me the different sites during my private tour. I did not feel pressured to buy things or rush. He had great recommendations and tips for shops to go to and avoid. He gave an interesting history of the mosques we visited and of Al-Moez Street. Highly recommend this for a quiet and organized shopping trip.

This was an amazing tour and we were so glad we booked it. I did this tour with my two daughters: aged 6 and 14. Mohammed was so wonderful with both of them, engaging them in conversation and asking them what they wanted to see/do. My teen was very focused on buying gifts for her friends back home and Mohammed made sure she found each thing on her list, even managing to find a store with the Scarab earrings she was hunting for. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the area and visiting a mosque. Amazing trip!

Our tour guide Mohamed (Italiano) was extremely nice and knowledgeable! We learnt so much about the mosques around Cairo. We also had an amazing experience shopping (we got perfume, handcrafted jewellery, papyrus papers and magnets). We had good prices since we’re students and Mohamed ensured we got fair prices. He also got us some orange juice and Egyptian fruit which was very kind! A 10/10 experience and I would highly recommend.

Mohammed was an exceptional guide! Helped us get all the pictures and videos we wanted and took us to all the cool spots! I even got to play a traditional Egyptian guitar with the locals! 10/10 would 100% recommend!!

We are a party of 4 and went on a slight customized tour covering the Coptic Quarter and the Bazaar. The tour guide and driver were very good. However, the vehicle while sufficiently large, is slightly old and stuffy - it could be a cleaner vehicle. Overall, it is an excellent tour considering the amount charged.

We were picked up very punctually. Guide Mostafa told us about life in Egypt. He accompanied us through the market very patiently and kindly.

Our guide Mostafa and the driver Shalto were charming and very punctual for the pickup, the minibus was in super good condition and with air conditioning. Mostafa made us feel comfortable from the very first moment, especially because of the number of Spanish proverbs and sayings he knows. He always asked us how we were, if we were doing well; it was possible to talk to him about any topic and ask him anything. He knows a lot about the life and culture of Egypt; things that go unnoticed to the eyes of a tourist, he makes them another discovery. Without a doubt, we will repeat with him when we return to Egypt!

We had a very nice guide and he spoke very good German. We also learned a lot about the country and the history. He had fulfilled all our wishes. Only the spice market we had imagined differently. This was just a small shop that had spices among other things.
