This is an excellent food tour. We wondered through markets and narrow streets visiting places I would never have found on my own. There were plenty of stops with a wide variety of different foods and drinks to try. If you enjoy food tours you definitely need to do this one. Nada was an excellent guide, thanks again, Nick.

Itinerary
Come for the Pyramids, stay for the food. Most are unaware that Egyptian food is one of the most interesting and nuanced in the region. Forget the tourist bazaar of Khan-el-Khalili where high-pressured sales is the name of the game. On our daily small-group Cairo street food tour, you'll be lead around the backstreets of Old Cairo diving in humble eateries that have been serving locals for generations. Come hungry because there are plenty of things to try along the way. Expect smoky charcoal-grilled koftas, pickled vegetables from a two century all factory, feteer pastries and piquant spiced kushari. There's fava bean falafels (quite different from their Middle-Eastern counterparts) and zesty aubergines, plump crisp-fried shrimps and freshly baked flat breads. There's coffee roasters and slow-cooked lamb among many more. This is more than just a food tour though. It's a cultural lesson, it's a journey through the backstreets of Old Cairo, places that you'd just never find alone.

We had a wonderful tour experience with Nada as our guide. She made us feel as if we were her everyday friends, just spending the afternoon strolling around the streets of Cairo. This tour really has you experience Cairo as a local, you will not see any other tourists while on this tour, which is what we wanted; a truly local experience. It was a great mix of learning about Cairo's history, culture and everyday life, while enjoying their local delicacies. If you're looking for a truly local experience while learning and eating all that Cairo has to offer then this tour is for you!
We had a great time on the tasting tour, Nada was a wonderful guide and she showed us round markets and restaurants that we would never have found ourselves. Everyone we met was really friendly and the food and drinks were delicious. A real mix of sweet and savoury tastings, all with a local history and we were very full by the end! We loved it and would really recommend!
Sama was absolutely AMAZING! She is so knowledgeable and passionate about Egyptian culture and history. Her education background in Egyptology compliments the experience so well. I highly recommend booking this tour and requesting her!
The tour with our guide Nada was an excellent way to be introduced to street guides and culture investing out and about in Cairo. It took us to places we would have likely never found or been confident enough to eat in. Nara was an informative engaging guide and we really enjoyed our tour with her. Highly recommend this tour.
I had an absolutely wonderful food tour with Sama today. From the very beginning, she was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive, and she made sure I had a truly memorable experience. I was the only person on the tour, but she still gave it her full energy and made the experience feel very personal. We explored parts of South Cairo that I would never have discovered on my own, stopping at a fascinating mix of cultural sites, local shops, and small, iconic food spots that you are unlikely to find online. It was a perfect blend of history, culture, shopping, and exceptional food. Sama is also an Egyptologist, and her deep knowledge of Egypt’s history and culture added so much to the experience. She has a wonderful way of combining that knowledge with her genuine passion for food, making the tour both informative and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience a more authentic side of Cairo. Sama was absolutely exceptional.
Great way to be introduced to a lot of food in a few hours time. I have a few favorites to eat again. It was a lot of food. I wish i could eat more but I ran out of room. My guide was great. Taught me about food and the surrounding area. Friendly and easy to talk to. Thank you, Sama
Amazing food tour in old Cairo. Our guide Nada was the best- super knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about food. We had 12 delicious food and drink tastings in total and loved them all. It was a great way to see the real Cairo away from the tourists, whilst enjoying amazing traditional food.
I had a fantastic food tour in Cairo with Nada as our guide. She was incredibly friendly, polite, and clearly passionate about her work, with great knowledge of the local food and culture. Thanks to her strong connections with locals, we were taken to authentic spots I would never have discovered on my own. Every dish we tried was delicious, especially the lamb kebabs, and one of my favorite moments was sitting on the street with locals, enjoying tea and soaking up the atmosphere. Overall, it was an amazing experience exploring Cairo through its food, and I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city.
A truly wonderful experience and insight into local culture and food with stops in places you wouldn't think of trying The guide was knowledgeable about the food and architecture and nothing to much trouble Just make sure you have an appetite. Enjoy
Had an amazing experience with Nada who showed us around the streets of old Cairo and trying all the Egyptian delicacies. Was very cool to see the real Cairo, people watching and explore places I would have never been able to visit without her knowledge. Tried too many great foods to name, koshary, kofte, juices, teas, coffees, etc. Can highly recommend on your next trip!
So good! The food was great, and we went to places you would never go as a tourist. Sama is so amazing - we learned so much about Cairo and Egypt in general. A wonderful evening with a wonderful person!
Thank you so much for such an incredible tour! Exploring Cairo with Nada was a highlight; her professional background brings such intellectual depth to the history of every monument. I loved discovering the hidden neighborhoods and authentic spots she shared. I definitely left with full stomach after all those delicious savory, salty and sweet treat. It was a truly generous and unforgettable feast!
Be sure to sign up for the awesome adventure. Not only will you taste amazing and authentic Egyptian food, you will also mix with the local people and experience Cairo through their lens! Plus, my guide was awesome and knowledgeable!
We had the pleasure of joining Sama for the Cairo Night Food Tour. The tour was great with a great mix of sit down dishes as well as small bites and drinks on the way. We only visited small local businesses that we would never have found ourselves. If you are into food and adventure - just do it!
We did the Cairo food tour, Nada was our guide. We had an amazing time, she is she informative and knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend this tour if you're coming Cairo 🙂
My husband and I really enjoyed our food tour with Nada. She took us to a vibrant area that was full of life and locals and we got to see a side of Cairo we would never have experienced on our own. The tastings were great - tasty and authentically quotidian (not fancy, not dressed up for tourists) and all enjoyed in local hole-in-the-wall places amid the hustle and bustle of regular folks living their lives and running errands before Ramadan. Highlight was sitting out in the street on rickety chairs enjoying thick Egyptian coffee with grilled kofta and lamb. Nada was great at providing historical and cultural context during the tour and kept a good pace. She was especially invaluable in getting us a ride back to our hotel. We would highly recommend this tour. Best roving Egyptian dinner ever!!
If you are thinking about a food tour this is the one to take - The great start of fava bean falafel then onto koshary, molokheya soup, shish kebab and kofta broken up with other treats - pickles, cookies rice pudding, and hibiscus ... Nada made the whole area come alive ... she was the perfect host. She was able to relate the food to the history - a great 4 hours.
The food tour was an amazing experience for me, with so many incredible flavors to try across a variety of restaurants. Every place I visited was welcoming, and everyone was very friendly. My guide, Nada, was fantastic—extremely knowledgeable not only about the food but also about the history and culture behind it, which made the experience even more special. A great tour and definitely a must-do in Cairo.
Food was good and we went to places I would never have tried on our own. We were definitely in a locals' neighborhood. I really appreciated that. Our guide, however, was completely unengaged. He got our food and then was either on his phone or talking with the people providing the food. There were just two of us and we finished way early. Partly because our guide walked so quickly that we had to run to keep up.
We loved this experience and highly recommend it. Nada was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. You can tell that she is well known in the community which helped us access areas that tourists don’t know normally venture into. All the food choices were unique and delicious and we were positively stuffed towards the end (pace yourself!). If you are looking for a truly =authentic= experience this is it. Our only advice: do it early in your Cairo visit so you can benefit from the knowledge of the food and drink variety Egypt has to offer. Dirk, Vuyo and Karla
Overwhelming experience, full of discoveries in a more then lively and authentic setting : the narrow streets of old Cairo. Our guide Nadia Made it all happen !
This was such a great food tour. A lot of different variations and flavours and quite a generous amount of food aswell.....also my guide, Nada, was such great company and very informative and explanatory about all the different types of food and also about the whole area that we walked through. Excellent!!
We did the Cairo Nights Food Tour late in December and our guide for the evening was Loay. It was a fabulous evening of local delicacies. Probably the best dining experience of our trip. Over two plus hours we stopped at five or 6 different spots eating and drinking our way through old Cairo. Loay was knowledgeable and an all around great guide/person. Everyone we met, everywhere, were friendly and quick with a smile. Just go with the flow and enjoy.
I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last afternoon of 2025! This Cairo Nights Food Tour was an absolute masterclass in Egyptian hospitality and local flavor. Huge thanks to our guide, Joay! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly with our small group, my wife and myself, and made us feel like we were exploring the city with a local friend rather than just a tour group. We wandered through the stunning backstreets of El-Darb El-Ahmar and El Gamaliya. Starting near the Al-Azhar Mosque provided such an atmospheric and historic backdrop for the evening. As a tourist you would probably not take those paths we did. They aren't kidding about the 10+ tastings. From the smoky charcoal-grilled meats to the authentic local desserts, every stop offered something unique and delicious.
I was running very behind due to traffic and Nada was incredibly patient. A must book, it’s a beautiful way to have many tastings of Egyptian food, learn history, and you can even do some shopping! Make sure to come hungry!
We had a great experience with. A Chef’s Tour with Loay! Lots of great food, and it was great to have some historical and cultural context to what we were eating.
I had an incredible time and am so happy that the tour operator kept this tour even though I was the only one. My tour guide, Loay, was very professional and detailed in explaining what was in every dish, how it was cooked, and if needed, the why of the dish. This tour takes you off the tourist path where the local eat. There's a wide array of foods and sweets to try. Definitely a must do!
The experience was not very good and did not match the price we paid. The tour guide was very nice, but the food that was served was extremely limited, cheap, and not filling at all. They also combined my wife and me with two foreign guests, and the four of us had to share one single dish.
We had a wonderful evening exploring Egyptian culture and cuisine with our brilliant guide, Nada. Nada showed us around local Cairo, away from the tourist spots. We would highly recommend but go hungry!
Nada, our tour guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. She took us around old Cairo, down hidden alleys and completely off the beaten path. Without this tour, I wouldn't have thought to explore these parts of Cairo, it was wonderful. The dishes were tasty and some had flavours I had never had before. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get to know Cairo :)
Our guide Nada was very knowledgeable and helpful. She went out of her way to meet us when we were late. She also made sure we met up with our Uber to get home. All the places we went to were very interesting as was the area we were in. I would highly recommend this tour.
Nada was an amazing guide for our group. We tried many great, authentic Egyptian dishes. She was very informative and lively. I would highly suggest her as a guide for this tour!
Nada was our guide, and we had a very enjoyable food tour. We tasted many daily dishes in Cairo, including falafl with baba ghanough, koshray, karkadeh, ajwa, kabab with kofta, turkish coffee, and rice pudding. It was a fulfilling night. Nada also led us walking through the streets where nearly no foreign travellers visit. It is quite adventurous and interesting to experience. Nada also shared how to write our names in Arabic, and we had fun and joy.
Mona was a great guide. She took us through Old Cairo to spots we probably never would have found on our own. We tried so much good food - definitely come to the tour hungry. Mona also gave us some great historical insights for the neighborhood that we were in and answered all of the questions we had about modern day and historical Egypt. This tour was a great introduction to Egyptian food - highly recommend!
This was a truly authentic Egyptian food experience! Far from the typical tourist tours, this walk lets you discover the real, everyday flavors of Cairo. Strolling through the old streets, Mrs. Nada guided us through several stops in a safe and enjoyable way. The locals were very friendly and welcoming. Mrs. Nada knew the area very well and made us feel comfortable and safe at all times. She even waited until the end to make sure we got our transport back to the hotel. The food we tried was absolutely delicious, and we also learned some history along the way. This is the second tour I’ve taken with A Chef’s Tour — first in Colombia and now in Egypt — and both have been exceptional!
Really worth going! Our guide was very nice, explained everything in a very nice manner! Old Cairo is not touristy, which you notice while walking through the area. We got plenty of food to try, everything freshly prepred. Places we might would have not entered. The people were all nice, we had no unsecure feelings at all. Be prepared to enter another culture, so lot of thinks are very different but great to try and explore. The only thing might be that the guide walkes very quickly, you need to take care not to loose hi while walking. You get a lot for the price, great experience!
Authentic Egyptian food at every stop, away from the touristy spots. Our guide was excellent, Louay is an Egyptologist foodie with a passion for sharing his culture. The falafel was amazing, and you must try the Egyptian “whisky!” Would absolutely recommend a tour with Louay anytime you are in Cairo. Five stars.
Our guide Mona was amazing. She took us to as many local eateries as we could possibly go to before we exploded! She also organised for everything that we wanted to save for later to take home. The tour was crafted perfectly as a “locals” food tour, not just the touristy area- and we could not recommend Mona enough. She was caring, thoughtful, protective of us, she was incredibly knowledgeable and was even an Egyptologist so she answered all the questions we had. And to top off our experience she sent us home with some local treats and helped us order an uber and made sure we got home safe. She was an absolute gem!
I had a lot of fun touring some local spots in Egypt. We tried a lot of different foods and all the owners were warm and welcoming, and Nada was an excellent tour guide.
The food tour with Nada Ashraf was so much fun! She went over and abound helping us get a ride to the location when no Ubers were available. We walked to many locations with all kinds of food, drinks, and desserts. There was no stop I didn’t like! Great food, great guide, and a wonderful time. I highly recommend! Thank you Nada :)
Nada is a great guide, very knowledgeable of local culture, Cairo history, and food. Wonderful experience. Come with an appetite and a lot of people.
Excellent food and market tour in Cairo! Nada was great, and in addition to the wonderful food selection we tried, she provided a lot of interesting history on the market, and Cairo. This experience is outside of the typical tourist areas, and we loved seeing these smaller family run businesses and trying the variety of amazing foods!
Great variety of food in a great setting. Tour guide was friendly and accommodating. We were able to see a glimpse of Old Cairo while enjoying some traditional dishes. Very different than other food tours I have done but still enjoyable.
Having done "A Chef's Tour" in Kuala Lumpur and coming away well fed and well educated I hoped for the same experience in Cairo. Our tour started late at 5pm (instead of 4pm) as requested by the guide as one of the restaurants would be open till then. That was fine and we didn't actually get started till 530pm due Cairo traffic delaying a few guests. Whilst our guide did keep the tour informative the actual food though was an odd assortment of super dry shortbread biscuits, cold cinnamon porridge, extremely salty pickles, raw spinach like dip with relief provided by iced hibiscus tea. The only food of real substance was a falafel pocket, a small noodle dish and a quarter mince meat pocket bread. Unfortunately no smokey kebabs or lamb as shown in the advertisement weren't offered. The tour finished at 820pm. I asked the guide if that was it expecting to run till at least 9pm or the advertised 4 hours but alas it concluded short on time and food. We were organising ourselves an Uber to get back to out hotel but the guide said the taxi driver would do it for the same price .... we checked getting into the the taxi but on getting to the hotel the driver tried to extract more money even after we had tipped him but thats not on the guide, just get Uber is my recommendation.
Great tour, we sampled so many foods that were very tasty. The guide Lou kindly waited with me until I was safely in my Uber.
A very nice evening out with more than enough food! Definitely come hungry, you will find a diverse range of Egyptian cuisine and the guide is very knowledgeable and kind. I had a private tour so I was able to ask many questions about the dishes and about ancient Egypt since the tour guide was an Egyptologist. Judging by the conversations alone it was already worth it!
I took this evening street food tour of Cairo in February 2025 and it will always be one of my favourite memories. I felt like I got to see (and taste) a part of Egypt I had never imagined I would, The food was authentic and delicious. The sights were fascinating. My guide Mona was wonderful and really knew her way around places where tourists were rare. Don’t miss this - I would like to go back with a friend and do it again! Das
The perfect introduction to Cairo for my first night in Egypt. Nada took me to many small local places in the alleys around Islamic Cairo. She had much to say about both the food and Egyptian history and modern life. It’s a lot more than a food tour, but the food was excellent or course. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our food tour with Nada. She was friendly and very knowledgeable about Egyptian culture and food. She took us on a very interesting walk through the back streets and alleys where the locals go. We went to an area we would not have gone to on our own, nor would we have tried the food and drinks without her expertise. I was worried about getting sick like I had earlier in the week after eating at a mall but we did not get sick after eating the food she provided on our tour. The food and drinks were very good and the experience was wonderful. Nada took care of kept us safe on the busy streets plus helped us get a safe ride home. Thank you Nada and A Chefs Tour Cairo!!
