We were greeted by Maggy and joined by 3 others for a total group of 8. First stop was a street food & market area trying different breakfast and bakery foods. Next was a juice shop sampling local squeezed juices and traditional drinks. Next a short walk to a Koshari restaurant to sample the famous Egyptian dish as well as some Macarona. So we were all pretty full by then. But now it was time for the main course! We visited another restaurant that had a butcher downstairs and eating area upstairs so it was guaranteed to be fresh. Molokhia was delicious and pigeon was very unique to try if you wanted to. At this point we were literally bursting. We walked a little distance with Maggy making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable, and as our tummies settled it was time to sample more street food. We finished off at a local cake and dessert bakery to finish the night. Try the Mango Konafa - yum! Thank you Maggy for showing us your city and sharing your knowledge and passion for Egypt’s delicious food.

I’m so happy we booked this food tour, since I wasn’t too familiar with the Egyptian cuisine. This allowed us to discover so much, we loved every bite we took and the guide was so lovely, explaining all the food and the origin of it. Highly recommended! The tour lasted 3h and we managed to see so much of the traditional Egyptian streets and ways of living.
DONT EAT ANYTHING THE DAY OF THIS TOUR. There is an abundance of amazing food to try. Magy is passionate about the food, the culture and the future of Cairo and Egypt! It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with an amazing guide and great human. Thanks Magy!
Absolute must do!! Magy, our guide, was fun, friendly, knowledgeable and the whole thing was seamless from start to finish. It’s a genuine ‘local’ food tour - off the beaten track, with the locals and away from the tourist hotspots. You get a real feel for Egyptian life - seeing the locals out on an evening, enjoying their meal with their families. You try soooooooo much (go hungry!) and such a wide variety and all 100% local, Egyptian foods - from breakfast items, to street food and local ‘homemade’ foods to sweet desserts and yummy drinks. Places (I certainly wouldn’t) have dared to try or even known existed without being on this tour and foods I had never heard of which were so yummy!! Altogether 100% recommended. Don’t hesitate to book : )
We had such a wonderful experience on our food tour in Cairo with Magy! She was incredibly friendly, upbeat, and genuinely excited to share her culture and introduce us to the incredible variety of Egyptian food. The tour was packed and involved quite a bit of walking, but Magy did an excellent job keeping everyone organized and making sure we got to each location smoothly. At every stop, she was also very attentive and asked if there was anything else we wanted to try. I really appreciated this flexibility. On many food tours, you’re given a set “menu” and that’s it, but Magy’s attitude was essentially, “If you want to try something else, just let me know,” and she would make it happen. That made the experience feel much more personal. There were definitely a lot of breads and carbs throughout the tasting, but there was still a great deal of variety with the different side dishes, dips, flavors, and both sweet and savory options. We got to experience foods and flavors that gave us a much better sense of everyday Egyptian cuisine and culture. I can absolutely see why this is such a popular tour. Magy brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the experience, and she clearly loves sharing another side of Cairo with visitors. We left feeling very full, happy, and like we had experienced something genuinely special. Highly recommend the tour — and especially Magy as a guide!
We had an absolutely amazing experience on this Cairo street food tour! Mila was wonderful from start to finish — friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and so much fun to be with. We tried so many foods that local Egyptians eat every day, from breakfast dishes to lunch and dinner favorites. We visited a real local food market, saw fresh butcher shops and small neighborhood restaurants, and learned so much about how people shop, eat, and live in Cairo. We also enjoyed freshly brewed Egyptian coffee, fresh sugarcane juice, hibiscus tea, and traditional Egyptian desserts, which were the perfect way to finish the tour. There was SO much food — we could barely keep eating, but somehow we still found room for dessert 😂. We love doing local food tours whenever we travel because it’s one of the best ways to understand a country, and this was truly one of our favorite experiences in Egypt. Mila made the whole tour feel personal, authentic, and special. Highly recommend her and this tour!
A great way to taste the local food and learn more about local life. Come with an empty stomach as there will be quite a lot if food to try. Amal was a great guide. I would highly recommend.
Our food tour in Cairo was one of the absolute highlights of our trip. We got to try an incredible variety of Egyptian food far beyond what we ever would have discovered on our own. Every stop felt authentic and thoughtfully chosen, from tiny local spots to busy street vendors full of energy and amazing smells. The amount of food was unbelievably generous, and every dish had its own story and flavor. We tried everything from freshly baked bread and savory street food to traditional desserts and drinks, and each one was delicious in a completely different way. It felt less like a tour and more like being shown around the city by a local friend who genuinely loves food and culture. If you love food and want to experience the real side of Cairo, this tour is an absolute must-do. Come hungry, you’ll taste far more than you expect, and every bite is worth it.
Amal was an outstanding guide and truly made our Cairo food tour one of the highlights of the entire trip. She is knowledgeable, personable, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about sharing Egyptian food and culture. As she took us around Cairo, she explained the history behind different foods, drinks, desserts, spices, and local traditions in a way that was engaging and easy to follow. This is not a small sampling tour, so come hungry! Amal makes sure you are well fed and absolutely gives you your money’s worth. She does not skimp at all. I did the 50-tasting tour, and you really do taste 50 different items. Amal paced the tour well, explained each stop, and made the experience feel fun rather than overwhelming. What I appreciated most was Amal’s warmth and professionalism. She asked about our tastes, took her time explaining flavors and ingredients, and never made us feel pressured to try anything we were unsure about. She was patient, flexible, and thoughtful throughout the entire experience. My younger sister decided not to attend, and Amal was even willing to conduct the tour on another day, which says a lot about her kindness and dedication. Because of Amal, we were able to visit restaurants, bakeries, juice stands, and local markets we never would have discovered on our own. Honestly, it was the best food I had during my entire trip. The mango juice was excellent, the bakeries were beautiful, and the pastries were absolutely worth the calories. She also took us to an authentic local market where we picked up peaches and olives to taste. Amal is not just a guide; she is a wonderful storyteller and host. She shared what daily life is like for a typical Egyptian, answered our questions, kept the conversation flowing, and made us laugh throughout the tour. I took this tour the day before flying home, and it was the perfect way to end my trip — exploring, learning, eating, and enjoying great company. A helpful note for anyone booking: please remember to dress conservatively, especially since you will be visiting local areas and markets. It is a great way to be respectful while fully enjoying the experience. I would absolutely book with Amal again. She is skilled, gracious, and excellent at what she does. This is a food tour everyone should experience.

We had a great time exploring Cairo with Magy. She was so welcoming and thoughtful from the start, and her personality really made the whole day feel easy and relaxed. The variety of food was impressive. We tried so many different snacks and drinks, so definitely come hungry because you'll want to taste everything. She took us into local neighborhoods that we never would have found on our own, which gave us a really authentic look at everyday life in the city. Even though we were in very local areas, we never had to worry about the food quality. Magy was super careful about where we ate and made sure everything was clean and safe. She even watched out for small things like making sure our glasses weren't washed with tap water. We’ve visited Egypt before, but this tour showed us a much deeper side of the cuisine than we’d seen as typical tourists. Magy also shared some great stories about the local customs while we walked. We’d definitely book with her again next time we’re in town. It was a fantastic experience.
The listing was not exaggerating about 40+ types of food! Come hungry! Out amazing guide led us through a couple more local areas of Cairo, which we definitely would not have explored solo. We tried examples of breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods along with assorted street foods, drinks, and desserts. Along the way, our guide taught us about the historical and cultural significance of the foods. I would absolutely take this tour again.
This was the best food tour we have ever been on! It was clear that Magy is very passionate about introducing you to an amazing variety of Egyptian cooking flavors. Make sure you pace yourself early in the tour with small portions because there is so much delicious food to try. It’s apparent that she has put a lot of time and effort to make an unforgettable experience.
This was a one of a kind experience. We enjoyed going to the non touristy side of Cairo and getting to experience all the different local foods. We were a little rushed due to the restrictions for electricity but I would highly recommend this tour.
Myself and my partner had an amazing food tour with Magy. She’s a funny and vibrant tour guide and made us feel relaxed amidst the Egyptian hustle and bustle. We ate SO much and they were all delicious - she basically took us to all the places we’d like to visit and eat but perhaps would be too intimidated otherwise. It set us up perfectly for our holiday in Egypt knowing what the local food was on offer!
This is a must do activity in Egypt. I had an awesome time in this food walk. Magy, our guide is an amazing person and she took us to explore the local busy Cairo streets during evening time that normally remains hidden from the foreigners’ eyes and got us to experience a lot of local authentic Egyptian cuisines. Foods were really delicious and a lot in quantity. Our conversations were also very intriguing and I got to learn a lot of new things. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to explore other aspects of Cairo life
This is a truly unique and very local Cairo experience. Magy will show you the local Egyptian tradition in an area of Cairo where tourists usually do not find themselves. The tour is well thought through and Magy is very passionate about her work. The food was delicious and we genuinely enjoyed the entire experience! Bring an open mind and do not expect a glossed up experience, this is Cairo as seen by the Egyptians. Thank you Magy!
We loved our tour with Magy. There were so many different types of food that we tried, which we wouldn’t have found by ourselves. She is so friendly and we had a really lovely evening in a lovely non-touristy part of Cairo.
See what I already wrote above, I just wrote a long positive paragraph about the experience but I am asked to write more, I will not repeat
Our walking food tour was the highlight of Egypt, but it was Magy who turned a great day into an unforgettable one. She didn't just feed us; she welcomed us into the soul of Cairo. Every bite of koshary and street-side treat came with a story, making us feel like locals rather than just tourists. The true magic of Magy, however, is her kindness. When I realized I’d left my AirPods Pro case in a taxi, I thought they were gone forever. Magy immediately stepped in, used her local expertise to track down the driver, and didn't rest until they were back in my hands. Magy goes above and beyond in ways you can’t teach. She is a guardian angel with a great palate! If you want to fall in love with Cairo’s food and its people, Magy is the guide you need.
We joined Mila for a memorable evening exploring the tastes and traditions of a Ramadan evening in Cairo. We went to neighbourhood areas full of energy and friendliness which we would never have experienced without Mila. 100% recommended if you're looking for something unique in Cairo. Go hungry!
We booked this tour last minute and we were so glad we did. We visited during Ramadan so it was extra special to experience breaking fast with the local community. From beginning to end, our tour guide, Mila, went above and beyond to make this a very memorable experience. She took great care of our group, guiding us through different local restaurants and teaching us about Egyptian cuisine (savory and sweet) and cultural norms. We felt like Mila was a life long friend. I highly recommend booking this tour for a true local experience.

We had the best time with Magy, it was very special as she brought us to enjoy an iftar event with the locals as well as experience delicious authentic foods in a non tourist area. It was a real taste of real life in Egypt and Magy was extremely knowledgeable about the customs and all things Egypt.. 10/10 recommend !
Really have a taste of the Egyptian way of appreciatie their food!! Really good tour with too much nice food to taste: Meat, vegetables, streetfood, fresh (fruit) drinks, cookies en dessert.
The food tour was absolutely amazing. We went on the tour during Ramadan and our guide started the tour by taking us to a local restaurant to take part in iftar (breakfast, but at night) - a great and very authentic start to the tour. Our guide Maegy was exceptionally knowledgeable about the local food scene and both the food and the experience in general was really great and has my warmest recommendations.
Magadin was a fantastic guide. We tried so many different foods and got to visit different parts of Cairo and Giza and even rode in a tuk tuk.
We were very pleased and satisfied with this food tour. The guide was well educated friendly woman and she showed us so much, each stop had so many things to try, it does promise 40 options and yes it's true ! there are a lot of things that you can taste at each restaurant and also the interesting street food. My partner wanted to try something extra and the guide happily did it and didn't ask us for extra payment or anything. Highly recommend it
I had an absolutely wonderful experience on the food tour hosted by Ahmed. From start to finish, she was warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly passionate about Egyptian cuisine and culture. What I loved most was the focus on local, authentic dishes—the kind of places and flavours you may never find on your own as a visitor. Every stop felt carefully chosen, offering a true taste of Egypt’s rich culinary heritage. Ahmed took the time to explain the history and ingredients behind each dish, which made the experience even more meaningful. If you’re looking to explore Egypt through its food, I highly recommend this tour. Come hungry, you’ll leave full, happy, and with a deeper appreciation for the local culture. Shukran, Ahmed, for such a memorable experience!
This local food tour with Magy was absolutely awesome. Crazy value for money — so much food that we honestly couldn’t believe it. Everything was delicious, and Magy was absolutely amazing: fun, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience unforgettable. Highly, highly recommend!
11/10 Experience! We tried so many different types of dishes and learned a lot about egyptian culter as well! Highly recomment to anyone looking to experience the real Cairo. Just wonderful
Very good. The guide did a great job of introducing us to Egyptian food. Would highly recommend. Great way to enjoy the culture.
Learn about what you are eating, how to eat it and where to buy it on your Egypt visit. Our guide Maggy was lovely and helpful. We enjoyed meeting other couples on the tour from other countries. Walking is over rough ground so wear walking shoes. The food was amazing, varied and way more than we could eat. We really enjoyed the whole experience.
There is a lot of delicious food to try. Make sure you're super hungry and only have a little of each thing.
Fabulous experience in a local neighbourhood north of the city. Excellent guide and got to see how the people of Cairo really eat. Food ranged from Breakfast to Dessert with drinks, snacks and street food included. Would highly recommend
Best food tour we had during our travels to more than 6 different countries. Amal made it very enjoyable and so tasty and filling, even 5/5 stars from our fussy teenagers. Don’t miss it! Only one thing to mention that made us little stressed was google map pinning of the meeting location was slightly different to the map.
Loved the ability to taste Cairo the way local people can taste it. During our tour, we literally have seen no other tourists, on the contrary - it's local people that wanted photos with us. The trip was well structured, as we moved through both the city and the day, starting from breakfast on the market, moving through lunches with friends, through street food, family dinner ending up on traditional Egyptian sweets. Besides the food, our guide was happy to answer any questions we have, and was a very warm and caring host.
Fantastic experience. Our guide was so generous with her time and knowledge and we got to try an extraordinary amount of food which was all delicious and supported great local spots. Would highly recommend.
It is the best way to learn all about the food of Egypt. During the rest of our vacation we recognize a lot of the foods and the idea behind it. Mary did the tour in a fun and interesting way. Would recommend everyone to do it
100% would recommend! Magy took us to a part of Cairo not frequented by tourists, and really gave us a local experience. We tried lots of different kinds of food, at street vendours, restaurants, and special small shops. She has a lot of knowledge about food, Egyptian culture and Cairo. She’s also a lot of fun, took dietary restrictions into account and constantly made sure we were all doing fine. Thank you Magy!
Excellent tour and highly recommended. Our guide, Magda was amazing and made the experience enjoyable from start to finish.
This was one of the better experiences we had in Egypt, being able to learn about the different local foods and getting to explore a non touristy neighbourhood with a local. Our guide Magda was very friendly and made the experience even better. She patiently waited for us as we were a little late, answered all our questions, and made sure we were able to try everything that caught our eyes. Definitely come hungry for the tour.
This tour felt like being welcomed into Cairo rather than shown around it! With Magy, we wandered through neighbourhood streets, stopping wherever the good food was. From Falafel straight out of the oil, ful that tasted like it had been cooking all day to pickled eggplant from hole in the wall eateries that were standing room only. We popped into tiny local places for cheese, dairy, pastries, biscuits, and late-night snacks I would never have found on my own. We also had an amazing late night koshari meal. Magy made sure that all of us were looked out for and safe in the hustle and bustle of the local streets. There were big, family-style meals where dishes kept coming and everyone shared as a big family. Our dietary needs (some of us were vegetarian) were taken into account and Magy made sure we were all stuffed. We moved between different neighbourhoods by minivan and tuk tuk. It was streets, laughter, food smells everywhere! It always felt safe and well organised. A huge part of this was our guide, Magy. She was warm, funny, and incredibly welcoming. When we were running late, she was very kind and flexible. By the end, I was completely full and smiling. Tired in the best way. Magi’s tour felt like a night out with someone who really loves her city and wants you to love it too!
Magi shared the history of the authenic Egyptian foods and gave examples how the historical frame expressed itself in todays society. She made it real through her personal experiences and examples helping us fell more connected to the people of Egypt! It was obvious that she had more than book knowledge! The street vendors and restaurants were welcoming to Magi and thus to us and it was clear that she was a known and valued client! I suppose that her best quality to us was her authenticity! And the food was delicious and varied - preparing us to better appreciate the foods of Egypt and to venture out more during our remaining time in Egypt! And it was great fun! Thank You Magi!
We enjoyed this food tour very much. We booked the local option and so glad we did. Food was very tasty and every stop was a surprise with so many options to choose from. Our guide Sarah was passionate young woman who was very flexible with us and made sure we tried everything we wanted.
This tour was the highlight of our trip to Cairo. Our younger two kids (aged 6&8) were so engaged and were gently encouraged to try new foods , our 8 year old discovered he loves eggplant and our 6yo loved all the fava bean dishes. Our teen is autistic and struggles with sensory overload, the guide was so encouraging and understanding and engaged her in conversations. She was hesitant to go on the food tour but declared it one of her favorite activities during our two week trip! Would suggest making this one of your first experiences, it really helped us to understand food we wanted to order again and made for a great first day in Cairo.
Magy brings her incredible knowledge of Cairo to curate a thrilling food adventure. Her walk ditches the tourist-hotspot-in-guidebook approach for an experience sampling incredible hole in the wall joints that highlight local food the way it is actually prepared for locals. Highly recommend, come very hungry!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Cairo food tour with Magy. She took us into neighborhoods we never would have discovered on our own - not another tourist in sight. We felt like we got a good, authentic taste of life in Cairo. There were so many delicious stops. Just be sure to pace yourself - we were SO full by the end we couldn't eat another bite! Magy was lovely; very warm and engaging. She even hailed a taxi for us at the end and paid the driver since we hadn't changed any money yet. I would 1000% recommend taking this tour with Magy!
I highly recommend this food tour! My sister and I had a fantastic experience with them. They were very interactive and responded to questions quickly. The tour itself was impressive and well-connected, so many options to taste and great local restaurants selection . It gave us a local immersion experience, not just a typical one. I would definitely use The Amazing Tourist again!
An excellent food tour with the dearest of guides - Maggie. We were a group of 7 on the night which was the perfect size. The tour begins with a trip in the back of an old van across one of the most incredible old tunnel like bridges straight to the heart of the Imbaba district. It felt like another world compared to downtown Cairo. Maggie weaved us in and out of crowds and food joints effortlessly. She was a wonderful host for the 3 hour tour in which we sampled what seemed like an endless amount of foods. We had a wonderful time.
