12/10 - THE MOST INCREDIBLE, AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE IN EGYPT. I spent 10 days in Egypt, and somehow, this cooking class ended up being one of the absolute highlights of my entire trip — yes, even more than the pyramids! This was SO much more than a cooking class. This beautiful family welcomed us into their HOME with the most open arms and kind hearts. We weren't treated like tourists, we were welcomed like family. We got to experience real, authentic Egyptian culture, learn so much, share incredible food, and connect with the kindest humans. The food was so unbelievably delicious that my mouth is STILL watering just thinking about it! And in a gesture that genuinely touched my heart, they gifted us a beautiful handmade Egyptian rug. That level of generosity, thoughtfulness, and love is something I will never forget. It wasn't just a gift, it was a piece of their home and culture that I get to bring home with me, and it made the entire experience even more personal and meaningful. There is something so special about being invited into someone's home, sharing a meal, learning their traditions, and connecting with people despite coming from completely different parts of the world. This family reminded me what travel is REALLY about the people, the culture, the stories, and the memories that stay with you long after you leave. To my Egyptian family: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for welcoming us, feeding us, teaching us, sharing your home and culture with us, and making us feel so loved. I will carry this experience with me forever. If you are visiting Egypt, PLEASE DO THIS EXPERIENCE. Don't think twice. Book it. Go with an open heart and an empty stomach. You will leave with a full belly, a fuller heart, and memories you simply cannot get from sightseeing alone!!!!! 12/10 recommend. The most raw, genuine, beautiful, and authentic experience. This wasn't just a cooking class, it was a memory of a lifetime. إلى عائلتي المصرية، شكرًا من كل قلبي على كل ماشيء. شكرًا جزيلًا🤍🇪🇬

We had a terrific time making traditional Egyptian and Middle Eastern dishes with Ahmed and Shorouk and their family. They host this in their home, which made us feel like guests, not students. It felt like we were dropping by to see friends and helping them make our meal. It was so fun just sitting around the table, chopping onions and mincing herbs for these Egyptian dishes and chatting. We had a terrific conversation and got lots of insights into Egyptian culture as well as food. The recipes we made were not complicated, but they were definitely traditional Egyptian items you see on lots of menus and that I read about in my guidebook. The meal and company were so good. I would do this again in a heartbeat. Such a fun night!
Ahmed and Shorouk warmly welcomed us to their home for an evening that turned out not only to be a cooking session, but also a nice cultural exchange filled with exciting and thoughtful conversations. The food was also amazing, and I found it very interesting to learn about both the recipes and traditions while preparing dinner together. Unforgettable experience with a lovely and hospitable family!
It was a great experience! The family is great, the food was totally amazing. If you'd like to have a unique experience you should book this activity
What a wonderful authentic experience with Ahmed and his lovely family, making traditional Egyptian food. A humbling experience to be welcomed into their home and to meet the family. Ahmed made sure we were kept safe with the pick up and return service and we even enjoyed a tuktuk ride.
It was incredible, I really loved it!
We had the best time ever. Such a lovely and welcoming family, amazing food and incredible experience. They taught us so much about Egyptian culture and shared many stories and laughs with us. I would highly recommend this to anyone coming here!
Hospitable and kind host family. Delicious food with lots of variety. Fun experience cooking and interesting to learn about Egypt's history.
This was a great experience. I felt like I was with family during the experience. I learned a lot about how to make Egyptian dishes while enjoying the company of the family. A very genuine experience. Highly recommend.
I had such a great time with Ahmed, his wife and his 2 lovely daughters! They make you feel at home as soon as you step inside their flat. The food we had/made was amazing, special mention to the baba ganoush! I am a vegan and Ahmed arranged everything according to my regime. I strongly recommend to try this experience to enjoy Cairo, its inhabitants and life there in a genuine and very agreeable way :)
This was a fun experience, as interacting with locals and learning about what life is like there can be some of the most enriching activities when traveling. Ahmed and Shorouk gave a warm welcome and were eager to talk and share about their lives, as well as take an interest in their guests. Ahmed explained that one of the main reasons they started hosting these evenings several years ago was so that their daughters would have the chance to meet people from around the world, which I thought was really cool and a pretty neat idea. Ahmed and his wife both speak excellent English, so there was very little language barrier. The food was plentiful and tasty, and included a handful of different typical Egyptian dishes for us to try. Shorouk did most of the cooking, and Ahmed also makes an excellent baba ganoush! While we did help with some chopping and a few other prep tasks, I would view this as less of a cooking class and more of a "cultural evening". That was perfectly fine with me, just know that it won't be an intensive cooking class in the way that some are. This was more of a chance to visit a local home, meet a lovely family, and share a meal together. Sometimes it can be hard to find authentic experiences in heavily touristed areas, but this is the sort of activity that you're likely to remember for a long time after your visit.
This wasn't just a cooking class; it was an invitation into the heart of an Egyptian home. Spending the afternoon with a local family provided a window into the local culture that you simply cannot get from a museum or a tour bus. The conversations were just as nourishing as the food—we discussed everything from daily life in Cairo to long-standing traditions, making the experience feel like catching up with old friends. As someone exploring the vegetarian side of Egyptian cuisine, I was incredibly impressed by the variety and depth of flavor. We prepared and tasted several traditional dishes, including: Falafel: Crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned. Molokhia: A rich, silky staple that was fascinating to learn to prepare. Okra: A savory stew that was pure comfort food. Mahshi: These stuffed vegetables were a personal favorite—meticulously prepared and bursting with fresh herbs and spices. If you want to go beyond the tourist surface and truly connect with the spirit of Egypt through its kitchen, this experience is a must. High-quality ingredients, wonderful company, and memories that will last far longer than the meal itself. Highly recommended!
If I could give this tour a 10, I would! It was amazing. Our hosts were the kindest, most delightful, and informative people. We cooked, ate, exchanged stories, and laughed for hours. The food was delicious and authentic. There are no words adequate to describe this experience. PLEASE don’t miss this! We will never forget our new Egyptian family!❤️❤️
We had a wonderful time cooking and eating with Ahmed and his family. The food was delicious, especially the Falafel and the Hawawshi. We also cooked something I had never heard of, like Molokhaya soup. The evening was filled with interesting conversation. Thank you for welcoming us into your home!
This experience was our favorite of all the things we did in Egypt! It is such a blessing to be able to see the city from a local’s perspective. We love that we got to build a real connection and ask questions about daily life. The class was private. I was worried about this because we had difficulty with getting an uber and were running late, our host sent us a welcome message through WhatsApp prior to departing our country and sent updates about the meeting place and what to expect so it was easy to give him a heads up. He was so understanding and accommodating with our late arrival and really made the class so special. We made so much food! We got to try all the well-known traditional dishes and they even sent us home with some YouTube links so we could try to make some of the dishes at home. A truly must do experience!
We felt so very privileged to get the chance to meet Ahmed and Shorouk with their 2 young daughters. A very memorable evening of cooking, great conversations and lovely dishes. Thank you for opening your home to us !
It was an honour to share a meal with this truly wonderful family and the 4 other people who were also in attendance. The food was amazing, the information provided fabulous and we were all made to feel as if we were indeed a part of the family. It was beyond excellent!
We had a fantastic time with Ahmed and Shorouk. They were extremely knowledgeable about Egyptian cuisine and culture. They welcomed us into their house and gave us not only a fantastic cooking class but also an amazing cultural experience. I cannot recommend this enough!
Ahmed and family were the most gracious hosts to us as we felt like we were at a dinner party with old friends. We gathered in the kitchen to prepare and cook the food, learning about Egyptian culture at the same time. We were able to enjoy the food dining in the living room having fun conversation about culture and linguistics. Everything was absolutely delicious and it was a great start to our vacation!
This cooking class was one of the highlights of my stay in Cairo! Ahmed and his family opened up their warm and gorgeous home to us and taught us some delicious traditional dishes. Not only was the food an amazing treat, but the learning experience was one I’ll never forget!
Where to start! From the moment of first meeting Shorouk, we felt like we were being welcomed by a family member. What followed was a truly unforgettable experience. Not only did we get to prepare, cook and eat amazing food, we got to explore Egypt through food and the history and importance of it. We were a part of an eclectic group of like minded people from very different parts of the world and at the end of the night we all considered ourselves as friends. This only happened because of the mastery of Ahmed and Shorouk. This is an experience not to be missed!
Fantastic night not just learning about food and cooking the Egyptian way but being allowed to become part of Ahmed’s wonderful family. Ahmed and his family were warm, welcoming and eager to immerse us in their way of life. We went as a family and my children aged 13 and 9 had a great time too. The food was delicious and we had a memorable experience! Thank you Ahmed! Highly recommended!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Cairo! Ahmed and his family are incredibly kind and welcoming, the daughters are so sweet, and the food is amazing. A beautiful, authentic way to experience Egyptian culture and food.
This is not just a cooking class, it is lesson in history, tradition, and among all else friendship and human dignity. Ahmed and Shorouk have shown incredible hospitality during the short time span, and I cannot thank them enough for the experience. Now onto the dishes. Not everything was made from scratch since it would take too much time, but the in my opinion the essentials were there from a vegetarian perspective: fava beans falafel & molokhia soup. There is much history involved with molokhia that is has to be experienced first hand here in Egypt. WE also had homemade koshary and feteer, but that was already made before the class. For the meat lovers we had hawashi and kofta (made ourselves), and for the desert rice pudding. We were also served strong drink made from hibiscus (and lots of sugar). One important thing to take away from this class is measuring by feeling: no need for fancy devices, use your heart and the delicious flavours will follow! In short, dishes on the menu were: hawashi, kofta, koshary, molokhai, falafel, feteer and rice pudding. Quite a lot for one dinner! Highly recommended!
We had a beautiful experience with Ahmed and his lovely family. It was a small group of 7 other tourist in their home. We all sat around the dining room table and prepared our dinner and learned about Egyptian cuisine.
Wonderful family and great experience cooking Egyptian specialities. We had an awesome time. Our granddaughter was turning 15 and they wished her a happy birthday with special treats.
What an amazing experience!! Ahmed and his family were the epitome of generous hospitality. By the time we left they felt like family. We were able to prep and cook authentic Egyptian food and everything was delicious! This is the type of experience everyone who visits a foreign place should have- real life and real food.
This is a MUST experience if you are visiting Cairo, Ahmed and his family are a joy to be around, this makes you feel like you are a egyptian yourself, they greet you at their home, you get to walk around the home, they are so knowledgeable too.
Ahmed and his family were welcoming and full energy and joy. We had a fantastic time learning to cook and then eating a traditional meal at his home. Their hospitality made this one my most memorable experiences in all of my travels anywhere across the globe
This experience was absolutely incredible, the perfect way to end my trip! I went on the day of my return flight, and I’m so glad it worked out that way because I truly felt like I got to take a piece of Egyptian culture home with me. I learned how to cook several traditional dishes, including my favorite, falafel, and gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of fresh ingredients, where to find them, and even their American names. The family hosting us was so warm and welcoming, genuinely interested in getting to know their guests, which made the experience even more special. We shared a lovely breakfast and made a delicious green soup together. To top it all off, they surprised me with a beautiful handmade Egyptian rug, which now sits proudly in my home! Such a thoughtful and unexpected gift. Overall, this experience exceeded all my expectations, and I feel so lucky to have found it online.
From start to finish, this was a great activity! From the moment we booked it, Ahmed was super communicative, giving us detailed instructions on where to meet and reminders of our upcoming class. His wife showed us how to cook numerous dishes and we enjoyed them seated family style on the floor of their living room. Their daughters were so fun and sang one of the guests happy birthday as it was her birthday. If you want the local experience, definitely book this activity with this lovely family.
Unique experience offered from Ahmed and his beautiful family. If you want to indulge into Egyptian culture, food, traditions and customs, music and history and you want to have a great unique experience, just book the course. For us it's a memory we will never forget. I don't want to spoil too much from what will happen at the course, but you will love it. We recommend.
As a dietitian/nutritionist, I have been fascinated by learning about the gastronomic culture of each country. I definitely recommend this experience if you want to learn about the culture through a family, their history, as well as exchange perspectives on typical food. The family welcomed us and was very kind throughout the experience. It was also an opportunity to meet another couple who turned out to be from the same country, and we even became friends. I definitely recommend this experience!
We spent a really joyful evening together, and what I loved most is that it's not just about cooking, its more than a class, it's about sharing stories, exchanging culture, and connecting with people! I got to see a glimpse of real Egyptian life, while also sharing a bit of my own. The family was so warm and welcoming, which made the evening even more special. I'll always remember this night and highly recommend it to anyone visiting 🩷🩷
What an incredible experience. I was welcomed into their home like family. We cooked, shared stories and food, and made new family. This is a must-do when in Cairo.
The whole family is so warm and welcoming. Amazing people and great food. An unmatchable experience. If you're in Cairo, it's a must do.
Lovely family, amazing food and a good cooking class. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great authentic Egyptian family experience.
Ahmed and Shorouk welcomed me into their homes with open arms. They shared some cooking tips and we enjoyed great local food together with another couple of guests. It provided an insight into the local neighbourhood and traditions that I otherwise wouldn’t have experienced. Thank you.
I had one of the best Ramdan Eftar experience at Sherouk and Ahmeds beautiful family home in Shobra. It was such a delightful, insight of the passion and knowledge these two couple have for hosting people to share food, culture, history and stories. They are bothe so hospitable full of lief and passion to the small things that make lief richer. We didn't want to leave. It was one amazing night that will definitely recommend to everyone who wants to see real life in differentcorners of Egypt, eat great food in the company of a lovely warm family . Thank you Ahmed and Sherouk
10/10 experience. Could not recommend it more. We had the best time at Ahmed and Shourok’s home. They were incredibly kind and hospitable and we learnt a lot about their family history and Egypt. Would 100% return. Thank you both.
If you are looking to dig deeper into modern Egyptian living, look no further! Ahmed and Shorouk have put together a unique experience, off the beaten track, that truly embraces the traveller and provide an awesome look at many of the best parts of life -- food, culture, and terrific conversation. We cooked, from scratch, several dishes and were able to enjoy them with the family in their home. They were incredibly welcoming and warm in receiving / answering all our many questions! Highly recommended -- 11 out of 10 stars!
This couldn’t be better. Having an inner access to local life of Cairo, getting to know Ahmed and Shorouk, cooking and sharing a lunch with them was our highlight for our time in Cairo. They both speak great English, share so many different cultural details and for sure cook the most delicious dishes. If you are ever in Cairo, this should come before all other tourist attractions.
An incredible experience. Ahmed and his family are so down to earth and a boy to be around. They walk you through how to create a number of there traditional dishes and then sitting down with the family to eat together and share stories. It's a great experience and I can't thank Ahmed and his family enough for opening their doors.
A very authentic and heartwarming experience. I highly recommend this tour if you’re interested in exploring real Egyptian lifestyle.
Ahmed and his family are absolutely wonderful. We were initially looking forward to the food but soon enjoyed the company even more. The food was amazing and the experience unforgettable. If you are looking for a cultural connection, this is it!
It was such an amazing experience!! Ahmed and Shorouk are so kind and welcoming. Their two daughters were so sweet. The food was absolutely delicious!! The best food we tasted the entire trip and we had some very good food. Shorouk's hibiscus "welcome" drink was the best we had, so much so we bought back 1lb. to NY and got the recipe. It was a wonderful experience to cook and prepare the meal while learning about the culture and history of the foods that were eaten. Our dinner with Ahmed and Shorouk was the very first excursion we did. We arrived in the afternoon and was dining with them later that evening. We're so happy we decided to do this first. I highly recommend this excursion if you want to truly feel as one with the locals. We will be returning back to Egypt and we plan to dine again with this lovely family.
This experience was extremely exceptional. The Safwat family was warm and welcoming from the moment my booking was confirmed. I appreciate Ahmed for escorting us safely to and from his home, Shorouk for showing us the music of her kitchen and how to prepare cultural dishes and both their grace and generosity with sharing space in their home, local insights, stories, unexpected gifts and delightful company, including the honor of meeting Ahmed’s sweet mother!
So much fun! Come and experience the real Egypt and make new friends with these two lovely people. They welcomed us so warmly and generously into their home. The food was delicious and plentiful so come as hungry as you can! I took back some good knowledge on how to make an Egyptian dish but the best part was the conversation and spending time together. They are honestly the loveliest people you will meet.
Ahmed and his family made us feel so at home in Egypt! This was by far the highlight of our trip. Ahmed went out of his way to make sure we got to them and back to our hotel safely, gave us so many pointers for the rest of our trip and gave us some fabulous Egyptian food. If there's one thing you can't skip on your trip, it's this. They also run some other tours in Cairo, be sure to ask them about that before booking with someone else.
