Booked this tour in advance online which was an easy and efficient process. Check in at the terminal was seamless as was boarding process. A quick 50 minute trip saw us land at the sunny green island, where we had time to organise a locker and change before heading out on a guided glass bottom boat tour - the family loved the clear and close up view of the reef, coral and wildlife with excellent commentary from the guide. Following the boat tour we enjoyed snorkelling right off the beach, with close up encounters with fish, stingrays, turtles and even a reef shark! After a shower and change we enjoyed the self guided eco walk through the national parklands admiring the plants and birdlife and views. There is so much to do on the island we didn’t have time to see and do it all!! Strongly recommend you pick the early sailing in the morning and the last boat on return to maximise your time on the island - we booked the 10.30am sailing and the last return at 4.30pm and we didn’t have enough time to see and do everything we would have liked to - there is a Melanesian experience and a crocodile feeding that we didn’t have time to see, aswell as guided walks and snorkelling with marine biologists which would have been very interesting! There was a great variety of food and drink options on the island from simple sandwiches right through to al acarte dining options - you can also BYO food if you want- we packed snacks for the kid which came in handy on the boat ride each way- Recommend this excursion to anyone visiting cairns who wants to experience the reef - it’s a perfected taster for beginners

Had an excellent time on Green island and exploring the barrier reef. Swam with green turtles and saw a shark and loads of varieties of fish. Great day out.
Had a great time on Green Island despite the weather not being fantastic. Loved the walkway through the rainforest and we saw a surprising number of fish while snorkeling off the beach. Highlight was the glass bottom boat trip.
great expeeience the female guide on the glass bottom boat was great the reef was great the weather not so good
Had a good time trip and island well done
A very enjoyable day out - it came up to our expectations.
It didn’t seem enough time to enjoy the island snorkel only in high tide as well as the glass bottom boat the reef looked sad the fish were great to see but the reef was disappointing seeing all the broken coral on the bottom and discolouration tells me that these tourist boats are doing more harm then good and seems to be all about making money food on the island was expensive there should be more Indigenous staff to explain the meaning and importance of this beautiful place
The boats to/from are comfy, spacious and smooth sailing. Glass bottom boat was terrific, then it just got better from there with the snorkelling. We saw some amazing fish, coral, giant clams, a turtle etc... Finished the day with a packed lunch on the beach, then a swim in the pool at the resort and a nature walk.
Excellent organization. Enthusiastic guides. Perfect day on a beautiful island.
Nice day trip but check the tides this is not good at low tide as reef is not covered glass bottom boat was good though
Green Island is fantastic! The GBB was amazing, good organization, professional team.
The glass bottom boat was great. We saw a lot of different species even seeing a reef shark and a stingray. Snorkeling was ok but by the time we had done the glass bottom boat and come back in the tide had gone out and we had to be very careful to not bump into the coral. Some information on when the low and high tides were for the day would have been helpful in planning when to do our snorkel adventure.
We had a lovely time at Green Island. Unfortunately weather was rough for our trip - the staff were so lovely and caring for everyone on board making every effort to ensure people had what they needed to make the trip as ok as possible. Amenities on the island were ok - some of the showers weren't working and there wasn't enough table and chairs at the cafe so found ourselves sitting on stairs that were pretty filthy. Didn't see much life on the reef though suspect that was more to do with conditions than anything else. A great trip, but we were left a little underwhelmed overall.
Nice one day adventure. Great location for safe and beginner snorkeling. Even with a lot of people coming it doesn't get too crowded. If you have your own gear carry them and getting a ticket directly from the counter. That would save you a lot of money.
We had a fantastic day at Green Island. The snorkeling, the glass bottom boat, the convenience and all was excellent. Really was an easy and extremely enjoyable and memorable day.
This was such a fun experience with the girls, and we really enjoyed it. While the reef has definitely changed a lot since our last visit — with very limited sea life and almost no coral, which was quite a shock — the overall outing was still memorable. The boat ride offered a full guided experience with loads of information, and we took time to feed the local fish before cruising further out. The highlight for me was spotting turtles — there were so many, and as a sea‑turtle lover, it absolutely made my day. This was such a fun experience with the girls, and we really enjoyed it. The pace was perfect for my daughter, who has a disability, and she managed the experience far better than we expected. It ended up being a gentle, enjoyable adventure for all of us. If you’re visiting Cairns, this is still a worthwhile experience for the guided elements and the chance to see turtles up close, even though the reef itself has changed dramatically over the years. Wonderful day out, staff were super friendly and helpful, catered for all age groups, highly recommended!
The snorkelling was poor due to weather conditions. The pool area is very small with limited sunbeds The beds and parasols for hire are very expensive and you have to pay extra for a life jacket or sting suit, it is literally the mask and fins that are included
Was a great boat ride out to island. Only about 45 minutes. The glass bottom boat was nice with a guide who gave great commentary. Island walk was just ok.
Green Island is a fun place to go! Glass bottom gave us an amazing glimpses of the awesome life in Barrier Reef! They offer lots of activities, most are to pay! I just wish lunch is included! Adventure Team indeed gave us adventure we are looking for at Barrier Reef! Including the sudden amazing storm that wet us just before getting on to our Ferry back to Cairns! Surprisingly the return trip was not rock and rolling despite of the storm! Will recommend it!
Beautiful lifetime experience! Fabulous service throughout to make it so enjoyable. Recommend glass bottom boat experience to ensure a view of all Beautiful colours of the coral and a view of the multitude of fish turtles etc Like a kaleidoscope!
Rethink this tour if you are going in March with kids/family. We booked for both snorkelling & glass bottom boat, we checked in at 9.30am (for 10.30am), but they didn't tell us that the first bottom boat tour was cancelled due to weather...they should have given us the option to do something else, but unfortunately, did not. We only realised when we were on the island already, that the bottom boat tour was cancelled for the whole day. Although a pass for the park was provided, it wasn't what we paid and expected to experience. Lack of communication and transparency on the day really let this tour group down. My recommendation is to try Reef Adventure, as we spoke to them while on the island, the staff seemed more approachable than this tour group, and sounds like Reef Adventure had a lot more to offer.
Nice island with all the facilities. Snorkeling was the highlight of the day. We were able to see turtles on glass bottom boat tour. Overall nice experience.
This was a highly enjoyable experience, the ride out to the island was smooth, the glass bottom boat ride allowed us to see a lot of the fishes and corals, and the snorkeling was good, with a variety of sea life visible just meters from the shoreline. Just a couple of suggestions to improve the Green Island facilities would be benches close to the lockers, to make changing shoes and such easier; a visible clock close to the beach, so you can keep track of time more easily; and, if safety is truly something important, don't charge for the use of a life vest.
Over the last 25yrs I have done this experience 3 times. It is a good day out to try and spot the marine life on the edge of the reef. The glass bottom boat is the highlight of the trip as you're guaranteed to see giant clams, corals and beautiful fish. I do have to say that the general amenities on the island are desperately in need of an upgrade now. Decaying decking, dilapidated toilet facilities, only one small restaurant where you can go in to sit out of the tropical rain for some food & drink. Also the crocodile park on the island looks like maintenance and cleaning of enclosures is required, I am by no means a crock expert but some of the water in the enclosures looks like a petri dish of germs and decay. Overall the trip is a very good one, but the facilities now leave a lot to be desired. Sad to see it go down hill over the years.
Snorkeling the reef is the highlight of the day’s experience. The crocodiles are a lot of fun. Great day !
A great trip - We’ve done it twice now. Be sure to go on glass bottomed boat trip and the snorkelling. The food establishments including those selling ice cream, seem to shut early - mid afternoon. Boat trip from Cairns to Green Island about 45 mins by fast twin hulled motor boat. Helpful staff on board and in terminal. We saw green turtles and many different fish while snorkelling. Hire the stinger suits as marine stingers can be present. Stay in shallows to get used to snorkelling if you’ve not done it before. Life’s let’s are also for hire.
This is a busy day but very enjoyable. We started with the snoring, not realises the time we just missed our glass bottomed boat trip, but they readily booked us on a later trip. We had a swim in the island resort pool. We had the lunch special in the emerald restaurant - very tasty and good value for money. Rough trip back as the wind had really gotten up but the staff and crew were very reassuring and competent.
We enjoyed our trip to Green Island. Everything was well organised, and wasn't sure what to expect, but ut we had a good day. Didn't realise we were being charged in US dollars which made it a bit more expensive than we thought.
A great family day out with lots to see and do, a little on the expensive side but well worth the experience. As a family of three we took the full day option and in that time we managed a glass bottom boat tour, snorkelling, visiting the crocodiles, a bush walk and a play in the pool as well as a quick bite to eat
Well done trip. Some of the activities are not available at Green Island that are available at the leaf Island. Can easily spend the whole day at Green Island and if possible try to do the longer duration trip.
Severe weather conditions meant we couldn't do much on the island once we arrived unfortunately BUT they refunded all our money back without question when we returned via our agent which was handled very well
The ferry crews were so friendly and caring. We enjoyed the glass boat tour and the snorkeling activity. This was also the cheapest, we stayed from 8:30 - 4:30, it was worth the visit.
Green island is so beautiful and the activities are great whether you are solo traveling , with family or friends its great either way. The boat crew and island staff are amazing and make the whole experience so much easier and enjoyable. would 100% recommend this and would do it again!!
It's absolutely stunning! Just keep in mind that lycra suits are not included in the snorkeling equipment.
Very well organized tour , started on time , enjoyable day.. walked the island , snorkeled in the designated areas( great views of the reef) , took the glass bottom boat tour as well , captain was very knowledgeable and gave good commentary during the tour ,, took the early boat back ( basically 6 hours there and back ) plenty of time .. more activities available for a price of course , everything is a la carte , you pay for whatever you want to do , go up if g t a bit pricey…
Excellent tour for limited time in Cairns very organized . Recommend paying for guided snorkeling out in the sea with marine biologists to see and learn so much more. Cara our guide was excellent conscientious and gave great information. She loves what she does and it showed! Good ROI for extra expense. Also we are glad we bought the underwater picture package not cheap but the professional pictures so much clearer than our rented underwater camera. It was great to be at Green Island with excellent facilities.
The snorkeling was fantastic. I saw many various species of fish plus sharks. Turtles were great. The glass bottom boat was okay. The host was very knowledgeable. I would have a little more time.
Wonderful beautiful trip via ferry to Green island. Awesome environment suitable for family vacation
This was amazing and recommended for anyone. We saw a lot of sea life just departing off the boat walking along the jetty. The glass boat showed us so many amazing creatures. We snorkeled and saw such diverse ocean life.
Just great day out, the glass bottom boat and snorkeling was fantastic. Plenty of fish and coral even sighted a black tip shark.
Rain was havy reef on island ok but tour was organized safe for all i saw people w disability crew was helping this is amazing 👏
We went on a day that they had a warning about rough seas, we asked about it and the person checking us in said "I don't know why there's a warning, it's not that bad". My daughter ended up getting sea sick on the way out. The boat ride to green Island took around 50 mins. The crew was friendly and the boat was nice. Mostly all indoor with climate control. The glass bottom boat was great. We saw lots of fish and even a couple turtles. Getting our snorkel gear was easy. We decided to snorkel on the beach closest to the pier as they said you may see turtles there. The day we went they were expecting a really low tide, and that did make it somewhat difficult to snorkel off the beach. We did see a turtle and even a stingray, plus lots of cool fish. They had lockers you can rent, and they were large enough to fit my huge beach bag, plus a backpack etc. I think it was $11 for 8 hours, and they had a 4 hour option too. You pay with a card and put in a pin, you can open as many times as you want. We brought our own food, so I can't talk about that. The crocodile exhibit on the island was cool. The biggest croc died about a year ago, but they still have lots of other big Crocs. We thought it worth the price to go in as we hadn't been up close to Crocs yet. Overall we enjoyed it, and my daughter thought it was fun even though she had gotten sick. Our boat ride back wasn't as bad thankfully. This was our kids first time snorkeling, and they are looking forward to more adventures.
Loved the rainforest next to the beach. It’s a very small Island but roomy enough to find a quiet spot. Marine life was awesome!
This was a fantastic tour, well organised and staff made information very clear. Both the glass bottom boat and snorkelling were an excellent experience. We had fantastic weather and water was calm and towards the end of the day the tide was low so we felt confident snorkelling close to the wharf. Highly recommend this tour
The glass bottom boat was a lot of fun! We saw a lot of fish and coral! Great for someone who doesn't go snorkeling/diving to see what it looks like! The snorkeling was fabulous! We saw turtles, rays, huge fish, black tip reef shark and saw a bat ray jumping out of the water! We highly recommend this tour!
Excellent staff on the boat although a bit chaotic getting off. A bit of guidance from the staff would have kept things moving a lot better. The resort was beautiful and everything you needed was there and easily accessible Glass bottom boat trip was informative and plenty to see for being so close to shore. Swimming and snoring was magical although nothing much to see, the water was beautiful
Just relax and enjoy the whole experience. Take in the atmosphere, walk all the way around the island - there is so much to see
Great day’s outing. Relaxing day with great friendly staff . The glass bottom boat was great for people who didn’t want to snorkel .
Surprisingly good. The glass bottom boat was very good but the snorkling, not so. Not too crowded all round but the popularity and closeness of Green Island makes it a popular destination. I was last on Green Island in 1958, there were plenty of tourist then so not surprising that the coral looks a little, used. Company, staff, trip over, wait times and communication were all very good. Lovely safe beach to swim off.
