Glide 7.5 kilometres above the lush canopy of the world's oldest tropical rainforest with panoramic views of waterfalls, dense greenery, and dramatic landscapes. Pass through Red Peak and Barron Falls stations to view spectacular waterfalls cascading into Barron Gorge National Park from lookout platforms.
Barron Falls from Skyrail's station lookout during your cableway journey. Most spectacular during wet season (December-April) when tropical rainfall increases water volume dramatically.
By 11:00 AM, arrive at the picturesque Kuranda Village, nestled in the heart of the rainforest. With four hours to explore at your own pace, you'll have plenty of time to browse the famous Heritage Markets (established 1915) featuring Indigenous art, local crafts, and Australian souvenirs. Visit optional popular attractions like Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld Kuranda, and Kuranda Koala Gardens at your leisure (admission not included). Enjoy a relaxed lunch at local cafés and restaurants, discover village galleries, browse artwork and handmade goods, and take rainforest walks without feeling rushed.
Board Australia's oldest operating railway, the historic 1891 Kuranda Scenic Railway, at Kuranda Station for the spectacular descent through Barron Gorge National Park. Travel through 15 hand-carved tunnels and across 37 heritage bridges, passing Stoney Creek Falls and rainforest gorges whilst onboard commentary shares Queensland railway construction history.
Your driver collects you from Cairns Railway Station (or Skyrail Smithfield Terminal if itinerary reversed) for return to your Cairns City hotel. Please note: Arrive approximately 4:00pm-4:30pm.

Wonderful experience with the best tour guide and a beautiful little town and train ride down the mountain.
The SkyRail was the reason I booked this. It was out of service for maintenance in August but was supposed to be back in operation in September. Sometime afterwards they decided to do construction for 2 months ending on Nov 1 but neither TripAdvisor nor the operator advised me. The SkyRail route was modified to be a much shorter loop from Karunda to Bailey Falls and back. The original route cost $74AU pp and the loop route cost is $41AU pp. I should have been refunded $66AU for 2 adults but TripAdvisor and the operator declined my partial refund request within seconds of my request. TripAdvisor is currently selling the full length Skyrail route on several different operators for dates at the end of October when old the short loop is open and no price reduction or mention of the bait and switch is in the offering. I consider this to be fraud on th part of TripAdvisor and the operator.
I was not informed that the skyrail was not fully operational. The skyrail was only 15min to Barron falls and when I booked the tour it stated that the skyrail was a full line! A bit disappointing as I would have liked to have had the experience that was advertised.
Great tour guide driving our transfer. Very knowledgeable and personable! Made the process very easy through the Gondola upgrades
Had a lovely day. Pan was a great guide, and the other passengers were friendly.
I travelled on September 3. The experience was thoroughly enjoyable except for the fact that there was no gold class available on the train specified and the fact that it (the train) was cancelled at the last minute. I was most impressed by the way the tour operator went out of his way to return us to Cairns. I believe that refunds for the train tickets are available. As I paid for gold class and it was not available for the cancelled train I request a refund on this component of the tour as well as that for travel . Your advice as to how this is to be claimed would be appreciated Philip D A’Vard
If travelling up on the Skytrain, take your time at the stops on the way up. Unless you want to participate in the cost plus activities at Kuranda, the time there is too long. The Kuranda Scenic Train ride is stunning and very informative.
This tour was completely stress free. Flexible with hotel drop off/pick up, informative and organised. Man was an absolutely joy as our driver and tour planner for the day.
Very well organised by Man, good communication from him before the day as well, with pick ups times and location. He even dropped me back to my hotel that wasn’t listed on the list. Fully recommend Man for your Kuranda experience, he is wonderful
What a fun and informative day this was! The Skyrail was tremendous. Traveling over the rainforest gave you a sense of awe. The ranger talk at the first stop was wonderful, imparting much information in a short amount of time. Kuranda town was an experience. We took a quick walk along a trail into the rainforest. How many people get to say they've done that? Then the Ride back down on the historic train was quite inexperienced. You stopped at the gorge for us to get off and take some great photographs and also slow down at a waterfalls along the way. That was just impressive. The train ride down was about 2 hours and it was quite enjoyable. Overall, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the day and found it well worth the money. We would definitely do it again and recommend it to anyone.
Great experience which exceeded both our expectations. Our pick up guide was brilliant. Amazing scenery and history of the area. Thankyou
This self guided tour was a good value and a nice day out. Man, our driver, was friendly and explained everything well. 9am pick up from hotel and drop off at Skyrail. There are two stops along the way and staff will tell you when to hop off and on. 11am arrival at Kuranda gives you time to eat, shop and visit any attractions not included in the tour price (koalas, butterflies and birds). 3pm scenic train back to Cairns where driver scoops you up at 5pm and returns you to your hotel.
It was awsome. The tour was very rekaxing and view were amazing. Our pick up guy Man was so friendly.
good communication & smooth process……………………………..……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Pickup was on time and comfortable. The train ride was relaxed and informative. I enjoyed the sites in Kuranda. Unfortunately, weather (thunderstorms) stopped the sky rail service, but the guide was there to give a ride back to Cairns, so I didn’t have to wait for a bus. Much appreciated.
Unfortunately, the excursion was burdened by a few incidents. The train did not leave Freshwater for an hour due to a defect. The train ride was good, but those who do not have a window seat will see little. After visiting Kuranda, we went to the gondola lift and rode down one station. However, that was the end of the trip here. No info why! We had to drive back up to Kuranda and could not go to the valley station. No info! In Kuranda, we were supposed to wait 45 minutes for a bus. But the buses were not full, and after intervening, we were allowed to leave earlier. The bus was only half full!!! From my point of view, the organization and information for the guests was completely lacking. How can that happen? So many employees and so little information... A shame However, we did get a portion of the amount back.
Very beautiful excursion. Very well organized and in a friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend it. Also great to do with the family.
