From rare 100-year old John Deere tractors to fashion, pharmaceuticals, antique cars, much-loved toys and fully restored pioneering buildings – Australia’s olden day history comes alive at the Historic Village Herberton, Queensland’s largest outdoor pioneer museum. It is recommended visitors allow at least three-hours (or a whole day) to visit this incredible historical museum set on 16 acres in the township of Herberton, just 15 minutes from Atherton.

The venue is lovely and aesthetically pleasing. The tea room, while charming, suffers from uncomfortable temperatures. Their operating hours appear to be arbitrarily chosen, causing inconvenience, especially to a family of 5. This inconsistency makes planning a visit difficult. I recommend confirming their hours before arrival but even then it's subject to change on the way they feel.
The owners have put a huge effort into showcasing early Australian colonial history but the near complete absence of Aboriginal history and culture is disturbing and inappropriate in modern Australia. I was torn between being impressed by what had been achieved here but also disappointed that people can only focus on colonial history. Apparently there is an exhibit of Aboriginal culture but it's very small and not prominent.
The historical village is amazing. Soooo much to see. So well kept. Only complaint is paying $20 per adult for a 5 minute train ride on the old train. This was a total rip off and I advise everyone else to keep your money in your pocket. Nothing to see along the way. Sooo short and soooo overpriced.
This place exceeded my expectations. Did not allow enough time. The collection is vast and varied. It really is huge. A full day would not cover it. My 11 year old grandson could not get enough.
We spent the whole day here. Absolutely incredible display, that is so beautifully preserved. Staff members were all very friendly and offered their knowledge on the history of the area. In my opinion, $35 for adult entry is far too cheap for the experience at this little village. Not to mention this $35 gets you a 3 day pass! We loved it and will be recommending it to everyone we know.
The demonstrations - the woodworking, blacksmithing, printer & John Deere tractor were terrific. The craftsmen are very knowledgeable & enthusiastic. The display of so many historical artifacts is unbelievable - a fantastic collection from days gone by.
Well preserved and presented displays of the past with working engines and machinery. Allow a full day. There is so much to see.
Wonderful collection of historic buildings, social history, pioneer experience and interactive displays. Delightful food and afternoon tea with great service. Highly recommended for those who want to understand pioneer life on the Atherton Tablelands. I would definitely visit again!!
Wow this place is awesome so good so much to see, well thought out displays so full of history, time will go and you wont notice that its gone. Bring back child hood memories excellent job team.
My son loves trains so a train trip is a must on any holiday, so we went to Herberton to ride the train and the village was going to be secondary. The train ride was great but the village was amazing. At the front door I thought the entry price might be a bit steep however I was wrong. For what’s there it’s cheap as some of the items on display are worth a lot of money and the up keep wouldn’t be cheap. There’s even a wonderful kids playground which looks new and the facilities are so tidy and clean. The downside is we didn’t allocate enough time to see everything so I would recommend at least a few hours. As mentioned by others it’s a three day pass which is awesome however it’s a bit to far to drive back with the kids even though this kid wanted to do it. Well worth the trip.
There is a reason they offer a complimentary 3 day pass. It truly would take 3 days to see and experience everything. What an amazing place! The rich history and countless pieces from a bygone era will leave any traveller overwhelmed and wanting to learn more.
It was amazing!! The train ride & the whole experience was fantastic. My children loved the damper & tea. You could spend days walking around there. It was my husbands dream place.
Where to start? What an incredible place. So many great pieces to bring back childhood memories. Topped off by our 5 year old daughter commenting that ‘it is all so interesting’.
We really enjoyed the day at Herberton Village. Was so great to look at all of the amazing things with the kids. They loved it, especially the school. We will be back!
It takes more than a day to see it. Only wish we had more time. It's like walking through a portal into the past. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in history or who was born in the last century.
What an amazing collection of Australian history. This place is on a level of excellence I haven't experienced before. Immaculately kept parks and gardens perfect for family picnics. Great family experience needing a full day, without kids 2 days to soak up whats on offer.
A very pleasant day in the heart of an Australian pioneer village and their history. A wide choice of buildings that will please everyone
