Very well presented - lots of artefacts. Great for us older people to point out things we had in our homes as children.

We were told that you needed 2 days to see all the village, but 1 day proved to be too long. Some of the exhibits were interesting, but most of the time it was like walking around a Junkyard. And if you want lunch at 12, I suggest you order before 10 o'clock. A very disappointing experience, and at $43 a total rip off.
Went with the family last Sunday. Very entertaining and very friendly team members! I highly recommend this place both for adults and children!
Strangely, Herberton historic village has no mention in the 2024 edition of Australia Lonely Planet Guide. I found it quite by chance ‘on-line’ while we were staying near Kuranda. It was the best discovery yet! This beautifully re-created tin-mining village has the most extraordinary collection of early pioneering equipment to be seen anywhere. Not only mining equipment, but every sort of early manufactured items from wood-working tools, photographic equipment, recording equipment, sewing, cookware, pottery collection. There were displays of an old prison, old pub/inn, church, bakery, ironmongery etc. A large collection of vintage cars and commercial vehicles. ….and much much more. An excellent (not-to-be missed) 30 minute film explained the village and its early development. The grounds are beautifully maintained by a team of staff. There is a cafe/refreshment area with toilets. We spent much of the day in the village & didn’t manage to see it all. My only suggestion: Contact Lonely Planet & make sure the village is included in next guide edition! It’s a fabulous (& educational) day out for all the family.
The Historic Village, Herberton has the best display of artefacts, small and large. From each precious tea cup to the earliest John Deere tractor to the elegantly decorated homestead. The delicious outback cooking of damper with syrup, billy tea, beefy stew + more made by Bushy & his partner Shannon was outstanding. Ensure you have at least 5hrs to enjoy this historical gem. Loved it!!
We came to this not expecting too much but this place would have to be one of the best historic villages we have been to. Well set out with heaps of information, options of audio tour on your phone as well. Great food cooked in the open fire, damper was delicious! Really enjoyed our visit and the whole place is spotlessly clean! Very dog friendly, they’re allowed in all the buildings. Would highly recommend and you can get your ticket signed off to go back within 3 days.
Excellent customer service, a beautiful place to spend the day and dog friendly 'wow' So many favourites but we all agreed that one of the best parts is the metal artwork, awesome 👌
Arrived on a quiet Monday which was great. Lots to look at, it is a really interesting 'living museum' and I would recommend you spend at least 3 or 4 hours. Most of it under some cover so great for hot/rainy days! It was dog friendly. Staff at the reception and cafe were really helpful and friendly. When you purchase a ticket, you can get a free return visit within 3 days making it great value.
We visited today slightly apprehensive of whether our 6, 9 and 10yo would enjoy the trip - I’m pleased to add it was a winner with everyone. The ability to walk freely around the majority of the village, the toy shop, school, dentists through to the camera shop and newspaper printers and really look closely at such a huge range of artefacts and items was what allowed them to really engage and imagine this period in time that’s been so meticulously and carefully preserved. The theatre experience was great, and the live forging demonstration with Darryl the Smithy was their absolute favourite and the highlight for all of us. Many thanks Darryl 🙌
Great experience to walk through the historic village and get a feel for life during those times. Amazing collection!!!
This is a gem of a place to visit. It is most definitely a day tour even though your ticket gives you a 3 day pass to come back and finish tour. I highly recommend a visit in history.
Many hours spent going through museum. Such a good collection of memorabilia and historical machinery cars etc etc. Very well done Thankyou
Enjoyed our day out at this village where the staff were wonderful and very knowledgeable. Enjoyed looking at all the displays and walked our feet off. Highly recommended to visit this amazing village and step back in time for an afternoon.
Fabulous experience relevant for all the family. Lots of different experiences. So many types of historical items all presented with great detail and care in an interesting way. Not a dull dusty old museum. Something for everyone. Can get a multi day pass which we did so we had a few hours on 2 days.
The best pioneer village experience I’ve been to including overseas. Authentic with great attention to detail and created with a lot of love and devotion. From the pub to the state school which was moved completely, to Ada’s dress shop and the record shop adhere you could guess the number of 78’s in a stack, to the vast array of farm machinery you just can’t imagine the amount of stuff that’s been collected here and put on display in such a detailed order. I loved the lifestyle carriage sheds I came across unexpectedly with a funeral carriage and horses and black plumes ranged above the encased hearse. Magnificent! Then the Cobb and Co coach Cooma to Queanbeyan! I’d highly recommend this to anyone with a slight interest in our history. It’s a true t’estiment to these citizens who’ve put it together. Well done.
Absolutely brilliant , one of the best tourist things we have come across , a word of advice , we visited after lunch and were asked " are sure you want to do this " we thought this was strange but the lovely lady explained it can sometimes take days to.go through this venue , apx $40 each , they offer a three day pass or an option to come back another day ( not possible for us ) so we did it and found out why the other offers there is literally thousands of artifacts and items and buildings to see , not possible in a couple of hours ( strange there was no limited time ticket eg: $20 as we could not possibly see it all , so lesson here is if you go ( don't miss it its great) but go very early in the morning and get the value out of the ticket
Absolutely amazing day. So much to see and learn. Allow yourself a full day to explore a walk back in history.
What an amazing place. You need to devote at least a half day or more to see the entire village and do justice to your visit. Situated on 16acres, there is everything imaginable of historic significance to see here. Lots of buildings, many dedicated to a specific relic. For example the record players room, it has music playing. Same for the piano teachers room, They have exhibits that work and you will find times where to be when they start them up. For instance the stationary engines, fire engines, old cars etc. From memory, the museum was started by one man who collected from childhood and then joined by another and then lots of relics were donated and hence 16acres of it. You cross the river by two ways, bridge or causeway to more exhibits and one of the largest generators I've ever seen. They have an area where damper and billy tea is made and served but unfortunately not at the time we were there. There is a nice cafe on site to enjoy a cold drink or lunch. There is also a 1/2 hour video on the Tin Mining that was responsible for Herberton becoming a township. Very interesting. One of the best Historical Villages we've been too. Well worth the drive from Cairns.
Amazing open air museum giving an insight into pioneer life iin Australia. We spent all day looking at the exhibits. The ticket is valid for multiple days so its possible to do a bit one day and return the next.
This was one of best kept Historical places I have seen. Extremely well maintained and presented. You need a day to explore the whole area, with rest breaks in between. The staff were great and provided all the information you could ask for. Dog friendly, we were able to take our kelpie with us and she got two treats.. This is a must see, you will not be disappointed.
One of the very best open air museums we have ever seen. Staff is very friendly. We enjoyed our lunch at the Pioneer Camp very much; cooked on open fire an again very friendly staff.
The best and most well kept historic village Ive seen anywhere. I cant imagine how much work gies into the upkeep. Blacksmith was entertaining and educational, damper and billy tea was excellent and the range and quality of displays was amazing. An excellent day out for singles, couples or a family. Travelling around Australia fir work means I see a lot of thus sort of attraction and this is the bedtime anywhere by a long way.
Plenty of artefacts dating back to the early pioneering days to the 1970s. Interesting to envisage how the pioneers survived and thrived and to see what was modern in our time (we are 80) is now regarded as being an antique! Grandchildren would be unable to comprehend how we managed without Apple
Simply amazing! So well done to all involved. Staff were friendly and helpful. Displays were well maintained and the grounds are well kept. Not normally a museum person but could spend days here easily. The film is a must see. Hats off to Herberton! Loved it 💝
This place is absolutely incredible! If you like artefacts, museums or history this one blows most out of the water! We had to get the return pass and come back the next day it was that incredible! (All are 3 consecutive day tickets) I have never seen such a well thought out, immersive and extensive compilation of artefacts in Australia, and so much of it is running too which is mind blowing, The cars and tractors have demonstrations every day, the blacksmith is incredible and the master woodworker Lyle is exceptionally talented and kind. This is a must see Australian attraction!!! A highlight of our trip so far!
So many recreated cottages and shops to visit! Quite well curated in part, although there's a tendency to accept all donations and 'put them somewhere'! We thinkl it might be better to cull a little, and provide more signage in shops. We went bacvk a second day, as our feet needed a rest to get around it all! Avoid the cafe: overpriced and stale food.
This would have to be one of the best historic villages in Australia, and well worth another visit. A superb range of historic buildings/businesses to captivate any audience. Maybe too much to see in one go. Included in the village is an old pub where one can get a bite to eat and a refreshing beverage. A must do.
This village is full of items from times past. My husband is very keen on old tractors and machinery and there were lots of those to see and some running as well. Lots of old China and household items for those not keen on machinery. Only downside lunch was a bit on the pricey side.
I have wanted see Herberton for years after a friend recommended it to me and was pleased with what we saw and the history
Our hire car rep in Cairns told us we had to go to Herberton. Why and where? We found the place easily and thought to call in for a short time.. Absolutely captivating and unfortunately we had to leave after 3 hours. While chatting to the guy who cares for the 1922 Citroen he gave me a great run down of the history of the establishment. This really is an amazing and important collection of Australian history. Congratulations to the owners and staff.
This attraction was great. The village is wonderfully laid out and in great shape. The various parts of a old town are preserved well. It feels like you are stepping back in time. One particular highlight was the collection of historic John Deere tractors. The gentleman running the display was friendly and even showed me some finer points about two of the tractors. He was very knowledgeable. To top it off he started a few of the tractors (as part of the many live displays that day); amazing that they have tractors able to run that are a century old. On this particular day we had need of a wheel chair. Thankfully, we were able to see most of the park with it! The staff at the entry gate were very helpful. All in all, a wonderful day spent at the site and I would highly recommend it to all.
A really relaxed afternoon casually learning about the history of Herberton. The place is easy to walk around and navigate. There are lots of building in a village setting. The short film on impressive widescreen cinema is informative. They could add a few cushions to the viewing seats because I found that pretty hard on my back. All in all, it’s a good afternoon and shows off Herberton quite well.
Well worth the visit ended up going for 2 days please allow 1 full day. Brilliantly done so much to see. Great staff. Entry ticket allows for up to 3 days, mining museum Herberton and if lucky enough steam train to Herberton. Lots of space, plenty demonstrations. Something of interest for all age groups. Beautifully kept - clean and spacious lots of car parking. Only disappointment and this is me nick picking is the damper wasn't served hot. I was hoping for damper hot like the Girl Guides used to do entwined for cooking on a stick then golden syrup in the middle yum yum. We were even offered umbrellas to use on our rainy day for free no security deposit. The buildings and artifacts are a great insight into how our forebears worked and lived. Well done.
You could spend all day looking at the tens of thousands of artefacts from Herberton's past as a pioneer mining town. Demonstrations of old machinery add authenticity to the experience. Warning: there are a handful of exhibits that are now regarded as racist or in poor taste. This merely reflects less educated times. Your ticket gets you entry for 3 consecutive days.
This gives significant insights into living in the region when it was specialising in tin mining. A lot of the buildings have been brought from elsewhere, but collectively give the true feeling of "being there" in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Not to be rushed. One of the other joys was a blacksmith in operation and lecturing on his processes. As was Cobb and Co stage coach (that used to operate between Cooma and Queanbeyan, admittedly)
Probably one of THE BEST displays of pioneering / mining/ printing / timber memorabilia - I could go on all day. It's on 16 acres so you need a full day or get an extension pass for three days. Worth every cent. Well done!!!
Wow! What an amazing collection of memorabilia. Everyone involved in taking care of this gem is to be commended. The place was spotless and everyone was so happy to see and help you. Worth every cent..,
Excellent pioneer village - all buildings and memorabilia painstakingly restored - we spent five hours there on a dsy trip from cairns .
This is the most outstanding Pioneer Village I have ever seen. The displays are second to none, so informative and unbelievably clean. I initially thought the admission price was too high but soon found out that it was worth every cent. It is truly an Australian museum that everyone should see. Don’t miss it but come early as you can easily spend a whole day here.
We spent about 2 hours here but could have spent much longer. Situated on 16 picturesque acres, the grounds are immaculate and very pretty with colourful plantings everywhere. There are excellent paths between each of the exhibits and the exhibits themselves are amazing. A vast collection of items of every description going back through the years - some of which we remembered using ourselves. We were entranced and enthralled! We’ve visited a few historic villages on our travels - but this one was the best I’ve seen! Absolutely highly recommend! You could spend a good number of hours here - so make sure you allow plenty of time!
The amount of work that has gone into separate this place is immense! Detailed and comprehensive, all the exhibits, of which there are many, are excellent, and the insights into earlier li f e are unparalleled. Don't miss it!
Reminiscent of a Scandinavian open air folk museum -- lots of buildings bringing back memories of past activities, events and eras, Informative docent,
So worth the drive. A fantastic village to visit. So much history. Make sure you make plans of making a day of it. Beautiful coffee.
What a great place to visit have a laugh and look back at the days when things were done properly made to last and worked. Easy to get around and a nice little cafe to rest in in between stops. Great morning had by all.
WOW! Absolutely loved this place. So well preserved and presented with so much history. If you are looking for an awesome day out, please check out the Historic Village Herberton as well as the Herberton Rail. If you don't want to drive up there yourself, check out Infinity Fun Travel. Man (the owner/operator) was A1 with his driving and commentary.
This is a full days entertainment - it’s truly great as a family activity to show the young people of today how life was pre-digital - my 11 year old granddaughter loved it - so many interesting things to see - it’s also got a great little cafe - lots of activities and plenty of photo spots -
Best historic village I’ve seen well presented and not too spread out and easy to navigate with nice tea room for lunch
We came across this tourist attraction by accident whilst motoring from Atherton. It's an extensive property (plenty of car parking at the entrance from the main road) and well spaced out for exploration of the many small houses and buildings. All have been furnished according to their purpose eg a saddler's shop, metal worker, wagon maker, toy shop, ladies' dress shop, the pub and police station. The staff at the entrance were more than helpful, pointing out the historic train was operating on the day we visited (it is operated by volunteers and those who restore it, so only twice per month). The train ride was a treat and inexpensive at the time of our visit (about $5 per person return trip). There are picnic tables for those who have brought their own lunch or a cafe to purchase sandwiches, coffee, ice creams.
A wonderful day had at the Historic Village Super Super friendly staff Devonshire tea Omg yummy, wonderful displays and loved The train ride.Highly recommended.
An absolute journey back in time. This village is second to none. Very reasonable admission price and you can return for 2 more consecutive days if you want. Awesome displays in a town setting and some of the vehicles still go! Informative and friendly staff….don’t miss this if you’re in the Atherton Tablelands area. A real eye opener!
