The tour was absolutely amazing. Steve our guide was very informative with lots of great information. The stops for food were very good. The scones for morning tea were delicious as were the fish and chips at the pub for lunch. The history of the tablelands was very informative and lots of new facts. The curtain tree was a must see. I didnt know much about the history of Paronella Park but also thoroughly enjoyed it. Steve made the day with a stop that resulted in the highlight of the tour seeing a Platypus. I would recommend the tour.

Itinerary
Departure from Cairns, we head south travelling past Walsh’s Pyramid, one of the largest naturally formed pyramids in the world. Here your guide will stop so you can grab a photo of this unique North Queensland landmark. Now it’s time to travel up the World Heritage listed Gillies Highway climbing 730 metres above sea level whilst enjoying the breathtaking views over the Goldsbourgh Valley. Just before the top of the amazing Gillies Range is a short photo opportunity at the Heales Lookout before heading into the gorgeous Atherton Tablelands.
Enjoy a relaxing quiet stop in the cool of the morning at beautiful Lake Barrine filled with pristine rain water and surrounded by World Heritage listed rainforest teeming with abundant wildlife. This is the first stop of the day and includes a delicious morning tea. Lake Barrine are famous for their award winning ‘Devonshire Morning Tea’ of freshly baked scones and jam/cream and locally brewed tea or coffee. On most days the banks of the lake will reveal a variety of birds including pelicans and ducks and other animals such as tortoises, eels, water monitors and various species of snakes including pythons, carpet snakes & red bellied black snakes sunning themselves on the shoreline.
After leaving Lake Barrine, we take a short journey through quaint country towns and farming areas to visit an unusual quirk of nature – the 600 year old Curtain Fig Tree nestled in World Heritage Mabi rainforest. This is the worlds most visited tree and easily accessible via elevated boardwalks. The surrounding rainforest is home to the shy Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo – only found in Queensland. We spot them seasonally high up in the trees.
Swim or relax at Millaa Millaa Falls, one of Australia's most photographed waterfalls. Please note: during the closure of Millaa Millaa Falls for council upgrade works until mid-december 2026, we visit Malanda Falls instead. Wide and fresh, these rainforest falls tumble over ancient basalt lava flows into a natural swimming area surrounded by lush jungle.
Enjoy a short drive through this interesting country town, with many buildings of the Art Deco Era
In the cool of the afternoon we visit amazing Paronella Park’s Spanish style castles in the rainforest. This includes a 30 minute tour expertly conducted by Paronella Park’s own knowledgeable English, Chinese & Japanese speaking guides. Paronella Park is a multi award winning tourist attraction with National Trust listed Heritage gardens and castle ruins, also boasting North Queensland’s first hydro-electric power plant all built by Jose Paronella at Mena Creek Falls. Originally created in the 1930’s by Jose Paronella, a man with a dream.
If time permits, we may stop at Babinda Boulders, a beautiful natural spot known for its clear, cool waters flowing between large granite boulders. This peaceful area is perfect for a short walk and, conditions allowing, an optional swim.

I thought this tour was good as you get a smaller group that you travel with so it's a bit chiller than travelling with 30 odd people like in some other tours. I would have liked to have had a bit more time in Paronella after the tour to explore myself as 45 mins is a bit short, I felt I was speed-running the place since I wanted to see everything and that was the main reason I booked the tour. I think it said 2 hours there when I booked and we only got 90 minutes. It was pretty cool that we got to see some really old trees and see lots of nature that I wouldn't have been able to see otherwise. It's a nice day out if you have a day to spare but you domt get much time at each place but I guess all tours are like that so you're able to see loads in the 1 day
Paranella park is gorgeous and a must see. Loved it. Pub lunch was good. Stevens the driver and your guide was very friendly and knowledgeable.
This day was perfect, wonderful places, nice activities, great photos and memories, guide and driver Steve was fantastic, I recommend to everyone.

Very good pace !This trip provides lovely scones with a recepie from 1924ish for brunch, and we had a good time during the paronella park.Wiley gave a detailed introduction of the rain forest plants and was considerate preparing water for us when we are going to enter paronella because it would be hot.

Fabulous day and a great guide
Book it!! Everything about this trip was great, from morning tea, to seeing waterfalls, a huge fig tree (learn the story is fascinating and of course Paronella Park at the end. Learning the 100 year history of Paronella Park was so interesting and got to feed some turtles, what more could you ask for. Oh I know, our guide, Warrick, he was amazing with so much knowledge and facts about different things during our journey. Thank you so much for a great day. Don't think twice and book 🙂
A fantastic tour through the Atherton Tablelands. We visited a volcanic crater lake, tea rooms, ancient rain forests, waterfalls, iconic landscapes, great food. Just has to be seen & experienced.
We were picked up promptly by Carsten who is an excellent guide and made the whole experience extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Carston was a fabulous guide who took the group to many interesting places. His commentary brought each of the places to life. The day was really well designed with the chance to get an interesting overview of the area. The included food was very good. The activities were well chosen and I can thoroughly recommend the tour.

We had an amazing day with our tour guide Steve. Everything was fantastic from the itinerary to the food provided. The tour was very informative. Steve has a huge knowledge about the area. We can recommend this tour.
I had an absolutely wonderful experience on this tour, and a huge part of that was thanks to our tour guide and driver, James. James was incredibly friendly, humorous, knowledgeable and genuinely caring. He seemed to know almost everything about the places we visited and even the scenery we passed along the way. He explained not only the main attractions in great detail, but also pointed out distant landmarks, small hidden details, local history, interesting stories and things that most people would probably never notice on their own. What impressed me most was how naturally he combined knowledge with humour. His commentary was always interesting and entertaining, and never felt boring. He was also a true gentleman—kind, patient and attentive to everyone in the group. As a solo traveller, I felt very well looked after throughout the whole day. James made sure that everyone was comfortable and included, and he paid particular attention to the elderly guests and children in the group. You could really feel that he has many years of local experience, a wealth of life experience, and a genuine passion for sharing this beautiful region with others. James is the kind of guide who makes a good tour truly memorable. Reliable, knowledgeable, funny, warm and caring—I honestly could not have asked for a better guide. Highly recommended, and thank you again, James, for making the day so special.
The Northern Experience Eco Tour was great. All aspects including the knowledgeable tour guide, morning tea and lunch were perfect and the places we saw were beautiful.
If you are going to sit in a bus for many hours and be shuttled to many locations across 11 hours, make sure you get a great guide! James was super friendly and genuinely passionate about the countryside and its delights. Super- informative ( and, amazingly, it didn't sound like a tourist "spiel". He seemed to tell us a lot of interesting facts and stories "off the cuff"). He never seemed rushed and always told us what was coming next, how long it would take etc. The whole trip was a relaxed pace and yet still covered many sights. Plenty of toilet breaks and opportunities for water refills ( plus: he gave us bottled water towards the end of the day). We chose this ahead of the various Kuranda tours and were very happy with our choice.
This tour, and the brilliantly wonderful people who put the effort in towards crafting it, was exceptional. By far the highlight of our trip to Cairns. From the romantic story of Paronella Park to the breathtaking views all along the mountains, it was a joy. A special thank you to the staff at Discovery Tours and Northern Experience Eco Tours, too. I had been in communication with Tharis and Annika for months as I let them know I had planned to propose to my partner while there. They went above and beyond to assist me with the planning of everything — giving tips on good locations and even talking with the folks at Paronella to clue them in for help making it special. Our guide the day of, Carsten, was incredibly informative and stupendously funny — great music tastes, too. He used to work in photography and helped me surprise my partner and took photos of us throughout the park. This tour was made to be magical and unforgettable for my partner and I. Not just because the locations, but because of the people who make it up and operate it, too.
Can only recommend this tour to anyone. Relaxing, informative and very beautiful.
Firstly a shout out to our tour guide John, his knowledge, expertise and humour helped create a perfect day. Big thank you from the 3 kiwis John
Absolutely beautiful day. Steve, our guide, was fun and informative and entertaining. Definitely recommend.

Perfect trip, unforgettable rainforest and beach.
Loved it, very enjoyable even though weather was not great. Carsten was a great guide, seemed very passionate about nature and conservation, had some funny comments and I loved that he told us about the optical illusion effect at Milla Milla falls. Can't fault the tour, thank you!
John was a great guide for the day. We were a smaller group (4) so John offered a few extra things for us to do throughout the day which we really appreciated. We looked for platypus and cassowary as well as the usual itinerary. He was great company for the day and we all had lots of fun.
Honestly a must-do. We were picked up in Cairns and had the best time on this intimate and diverse tour. From visiting beautiful lakes and waterfalls, to walking through lush greens and seeing the beautiful Paronella Park. We had John and loved his energy and vibe. Great for couples - could not recommend enough.
Overall we had an amazing experience and would totally recommend this tour. The highlight was swimming in Millaa Millaa falls while we tried to recreate our own Herbal Essences photoshoot. John was amazing guide, he’s super knowledgeable and friendly, he really made the tour feel special.
Amazing tour, fantastic guide and a very nice day. Highly recommend 🤩🤩
Great tour and great guide. Good mixture of nature and culture.
Highly recommend this Cairns one day trip. Steve was our guide, he is funny, knowledgeable, told us so much about the history, plants, and each place we visited. I love the Lake Barrine, Curtain Fig Tree, Millaa Millaa Falls, and Paronella Park. The tour included breakfast and lunch, both were delicious and filling. I travel here alone but feel warm with the team and guide!
Fabulous full day of interesting places to see. Delicios morning tea and lunch included.. Steve the tour guide/driver was friendly & knowledgeable Para
Wonderful! Carsten is a good person!
Lovely day with interesting and educational tidbits shared by Carsten. Paronella Park and the waterfalls and swimming in the freshwater creek were all highlights. Lunch was good and the scones at the lake were also delicious.
We booked through the Cairns tourist centre and the booking process was simple and straight forward. John was our guide/ driver for the day and arrived within minutes of the scheduled pickup time at our hotel. His driving was top notch, always safe, comfortable and suitable to the conditions. He was very knowledgeable and approachable with some nice bits of comedy thrown in; keeping the atmosphere light and relaxed throughout the day. All stops where well timed for distance between them, not to long nor to short. Highlights for me was the Millaa Millaa falls and Paronella Park with a good and appropriate amount of time at all stops allocated. The provided morning tea and lunch were also very nice. There were no hidden costs (unexpected admission tickets etc) during the trip, with water included. We had 13 on the tour which was just right for some conversation within the group. Would highly recommend this day trip to people of all ages. A huge thank you to John for such a great day! Cheers mate!
Really excellent day. Our tour guide John was knowledgable, informative and fun. This tour explores such a beautiful part of Australia - I would highly recommend it.
Loved this tour. Having a guide that is not only passionate about their job but knows the little things and stories of the area make the difference. The tour itself was perfect from the scones at Lake Barrine, Millaa Millaa Falss and Paronella Park...wow. An amazing day, thank you.
Great experience would highly recommend this trip for anyone and everyone. Our tour guide Steve was very nice, informative, and made sure everyone got the most out of the trip! Takes you through the most breathtaking mountain ranges and made plenty of stops for pictures. Paronella park is one of a kind and a super great stop.
Had the exoerience of a lifetime! Our tour guide Scottie was a competent driver, knowledgeable, shared heaps of interesting commentary and had a good sense of humour. The sites along the way were stunning! Including the falls, mammoth trees, the historical park and the rolling hills of the tablelands. The tea and scones were served in a beautiful setting at a crater lake. Lunch was delicious served by friendly staff. Best thing: we saw 2 cassowaries in the wild!
I truly had a lovely day. We were lucky with the beautiful weather, and the mixed group of all ages was really pleasant and easy to spend the day with. The tour was very informative thanks to Steve, who was both our driver and guide, he explained many things along the way and made everything interesting. The Tablelands are such a beautiful area, peaceful and full of amazing nature. I’m really glad I joined this tour and would happily recommend it
Our tour through southern Queensland was absolutely fantastic. From the magical Paronella Park to the beautiful Millaa Millaa Falls and the wild landscapes of Wooromba Park, every stop was well chosen and memorable. What truly made the difference was our guide, Steve. Steve was amazing: super knowledgeable, reliable, and genuinely kind. He shared so much interesting information about the places, the nature, and the area, making the whole experience even more special. You could really feel his passion for what he does. As a perfect ending, Steve took us to a little-known beach spot where we were lucky enough to see two cassowaries and around thirty wallabies in the wild. An unforgettable moment. Highly recommended for anyone who wants an authentic and beautiful Queensland experience!
A fantastic experience! Steve, our guide, was great. Throughout the day, he told us fascinating stories about the region; it was captivating.
