Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation visits are definitely worth considering as a day trip tour with a local guide. I was impressed by the guide’s job, who was handling a big group not just as a tour guide, but also as a bus driver, giving us live commentaries even while driving. All the places we visited were impressive and profound. We covered much more than it was mentioned and that could be actually covered within one day tour.

Great way to see the area. We enjoyed learning about the rainforest and seeing some crocodiles on the river cruise
Great river cruise. We saw a Salt water crocodile. Good ice cream and views of where the rain forest meets the ocean.
Long day but worth every moment
A fab trip. Kel our driver/guide was joyful and wonderful. She was very knowledgeable. A trip well planned despite the issues with the sound system in the vehicle.
This excursion was pretty good but definitely very rushed. We traveled to Daintree from Cairns, so we expected a bit of a drive. Although we didn’t expect to be rushed through every stop so quickly. I understand the tour company and tour guide can’t control the round trip travel time, but they can control the stops/ itinerary. The 1 hour river cruise was 40-45 min at best. Every other stop on the itinerary was about 20 minutes. The first lookout was 5 minutes. The lunch was pretty good, but again only about 25 min. I had the vegetarian pesto pasta which was delicious. The swim in the rainforest was 20 minutes including walking down to the water and changing into your bathing suit. The walk through Daintree was longer and the guide did a good job pointing out cool insects, flora, and fauna. The stop at the beach “where the rainforest meets the reef” was what I was most excited for and our guide said we would have time to walk around the beach and walk to the lookout. Though, we had walked about 3 min down the beach before he told us we had to turn around to head back to the van. Don’t say go to the lookout / that we can do both if we really can’t. The tropical fruit ice cream was really delicious, and it feels like you’re eating it in a rainforest garden if you sit at the picnic tables! Overall, the trip would be significantly improved if one or two things were cut out to give more time at the best locations. Also, I would recommend at sound check in the bus before the guide leaves in the morning because it was nearly impossible to understand what the guide was saying at the back of the bus with the AC going. It was too muffled.
From the initial greeting we felt very much at home and cared for. The range of experiences was terrific, even without properly seeing a crocodile. Mark's vast knowledge, mixed with a genuine desire to give everyone a positive experience, was commendable. The ice cream was the icing on the cake of an excellent day! Thank you so much.
What an awesome day, jam packed with adventure and fun. Would highly recommend. Female tour guide was the best. 10/10
Wow. Such an amazing tour. The adventure continued all day. Our guide, Warren, was exceptional. Such a knowledgeable tour guide. Loved every minute. Thank you.
We had a great day the trip couldn’t have been more enjoyable we didn’t know the trip came with a cruise on the Daintree River.
Great option if you’re looking for a leisurely tour with minimal walking.
Really enjoyed this tour from Cairns up to Cape Tribulation, including a walk on the beach, a stroll through the Daintree and mangroves, a cruise up the Daintree river, a delicious lunch, a visit to a couple of river swimming holes and a delicious creamy ice cream to finish. Great tour guide, informative, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended tour.
The pick up was on time and very easy and driver/guide Graeme was knowledgeable and happy to share information about the region and history as we passed through. We chose this tour as we had already visited Mossman Cultural centre and so needed one that didn't go there. The stops are at beautiful places (Mt Alexandra lookout and Cape Tribulation beach) and the river cruise scenery was lovely. I don't think you can expect to see too many crocs however and the boardwalk through the mangroves was interesting but there was not much wildlife. Lunch was plentiful but pretty standard fare. The Barramundi was not great tbh. The ice cream stop was welcome but the thing that saved the whole experience was seeing a cassowary and his youngster, but this was down to pure dumb luck!
This trip was a big disappointment for 2 major reasons. Our guide, who seemed quite knowledgeable was very difficult to hear while we were on the bus. At the first stop, we asked if he could raise the volume on his microphone and he said he would. Then next time we were on the bus, there seemed to be no difference. We go on tours to learn and we couldn’t hear the vast majority of the time we were on the bus. A major issue was the ambient noise on the bus. Every time he pressed the accelerator, his commentary was unintelligible. All of this was made worse by the fact that we could hear snippets of what he said and my brain kept trying to piece together what he was saying - which was exhausting. He was great on the nature walk and showed he has great knowledge. He also seemed to know a lot about the area and when audible had some good information and stories. The second reason was the vehicle itself. It seemed more a military vehicle and rode like it, than a bus. There seems to be no shocks and I was tossed around quite often. The end result is I wrenched my back and was in considerable pain by the end of the trip and throughout the night and next day. I don’t really blame the guide, I blame the tools provided for this tour. If they don’t correct these issues, I suggest you stay far away from the Billy Tea tour company. There are other operators available.
We are not normally tour people and we loved this tour. John was fabulous and full of very interesting facts.
Excellent day lots to see and learn
Great experience, great guide, daughters loved it. Seeing 2 Cassowary's with chicks was a bonus
These guys are great, tour guide Graeme was at the hotel at 7am and provided an exceptional service all day, driving, guiding, taken us out on walks and was all to happy to answer any of our questions and help in any other way he could
This was such a fantastic experience. Anyone looking for local knowledge, a taste of everything the daintree has to offer and great value for money - book this tour! AJ was fantastic. He was so passionate, knowledgeable and patient with my 11 year olds eternal questions. Professional tour without feeling like a churn and burn business ❤️
Fabulous day out with our guide Graeme! Graeme took good care of us from pick- up to drop-off. He provided knowledgeable commentary as he drove us around in air-conditioned comfort. We packed in a lot in this full- day tour but we didn't feel the time pressure with Graeme organising us. Highlights were spotting cassowaries in the wild! Including a father with chicks! (Super lucky to see such rarely sighted animals twice on this trip.), the river cruise with crocodiles, Daintree Icecream Company and having a dip in some croc-free water in the Daintree.
Daintree national park is a beautiful, unique area .Andy was a very informative tour guide. Really enjoyed the guided tour along the board walk . Recommend this full day tour
Long day but worth it . Enjoyable and informative Had a issue with the PA early on but it got sorted out
Absolutely incredible tour. AJ was very knowledgeable, answered all questions and made the tour amazing. 100% recommend .
While i would recommend this trip , it is very much just a whistle stop tour of all the sights, the longest time was spent at lunch and the ice cream shop. It does give you an overview of that you could do at a later time on your own. What really made this trip was the boat ride and the crocodile experience that was fantastic.
The driver AJ was amazing. He was briefing us all the way about places, plants and everything. A very friendly and patient person.
The tour was great, each stage was a great different experience within the Daintree. Our tour guide Graeme was very knowledgeable and answered all questions. The highlight was seeing a wild crocodile (Scarface) on the river. The tour is well suited for anyone willing to learn the diverse animals, trees and plants which make up the rainforest.
Everything ran like clock work, from pick up to drop off. We checked off many of our boxes. Very informative and thought provoking guide. Excellent lunch. Wonderful ice cream stop on trip back to Cairnes.
Good one day tour with plenty to see and do. The guide was knowledgeable without being over chatty. Lunch was good after the swim. There is a fair bit of driving, but the bus was comfortable.
Great day- well organised, picked up on time from hotel, food really nicely presented and ice cream super generous portion! Graeme our guide was great- very informative and pleasant- gave loads of information about our surroundings and could answer any questions we had. Felt that we had enough time at each destination. Would definitely recommend this tour company
John was such a great tour guide. He was so knowledgeable, fun and friendly! We had a great trip and enjoyed sight seeing!
John was a wonderful guide, very personable and knowledgeable. He made our small group tour entertaining as well as informative. Spectacularly sights!
We had a wonderful day exploring the Daintree Rainforest with Warren. He was an excellent guide and incredibly knowledgeable, educating us about the rainforest, wildlife, and area throughout the entire tour. The day was packed with activities, but never felt long. The time absolutely flew by. The ice cream stop was amazing and definitely a highlight, and lunch was delicious as well. We didn’t manage to spot the elusive cassowary, but we saw plenty of other wildlife along the way. Warren’s knowledge and enthusiasm really added to the experience and made this much more than just a sightseeing tour. A fantastic way to experience the Daintree and one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend!
Lunch was devine and the ice cream was yum. The rest of the day was good with great weather and company. Warren is very chatty and passionate about the area and a fountain of knowledge. Thanks for a fun day.
An incredible day in the oldest living rainforest in the world! This tour was so much fun. Our guide was knowledgeable, the croc cruise was super interesting and the ice cream was DELICOUS. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a day out in this absolutely magical place.
We took part in the Billy Tea Safaris – Daintree Rainforest Tour and, unfortunately, we came away very disappointed and, above all, very unhappy with the experience, despite one positive aspect. The main positive was the guide on the crocodile-spotting boat cruise, who was genuinely passionate and engaging. This was clearly the part of the tour where we received the most interesting information, particularly about the animals, and where we genuinely enjoyed ourselves. However, for a tour that is supposed to allow you to discover the Daintree Rainforest, we found the organisation extremely disappointing. We spent far too much time on the bus and around meal times, at the expense of actually exploring the rainforest and enjoying nature. Everything was strictly timed, down to the minute, which made the experience feel more like a mass tourism operation than a genuine exploration of the Daintree. The rainforest walk was very short, on a very touristy trail, and gave us very little opportunity to actually immerse ourselves in nature. We found this particularly frustrating considering the time and money spent on the tour. We also spent an excessive amount of time on the bus, with very little time actually dedicated to exploring. The explanations were also very limited. Most of the information was given on the bus, but in a very monotone voice, which made it difficult to stay engaged. We would have really appreciated more information about the rainforest, its wildlife and flora, as well as information about the different swimming spots and waterholes and where they were located. The air conditioning on the bus was also a major issue. It was far too cold, and we even asked for the air conditioning to be turned off or at least reduced because we were genuinely freezing. Despite our request, the air conditioning was not adjusted, which made the already very long bus journeys particularly uncomfortable. The organisation also gave us a strong impression of mass tourism. It is a very large tour company, with several of their vehicles following each other along the route. We even saw three of their trucks travelling one behind the other. This really reinforced the feeling of an assembly-line style tour, with very little room for a more authentic experience. As for the food, the portions seemed very small, and everything was served very quickly and in a very “assembly-line” way. For the price we paid, we expected something of a much higher standard. Drinks were also not included in the tour price, which we found quite disappointing. Overall, we are really frustrated with this experience. We chose this tour to discover the Daintree Rainforest and spend time surrounded by nature. Instead, we felt that we spent far more time on the bus and eating than actually exploring the rainforest. The boat cruise guide was excellent, and this clearly saved part of the experience. Unfortunately, it was not enough to make up for all the other negative aspects. For the price, we genuinely expected much more. We wanted to spend more time in nature, receive proper explanations and have a more immersive experience, with much less time sitting on a bus following an extremely rigid schedule. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this tour if your main goal is to really discover and enjoy the Daintree Rainforest.
Wonderful day with Andy. Great value with all the extras, morning tea, river cruise, lunch, ice cream and an excellent tour guide.
We really enjoyed the rainforest walk and the cruise where we saw many crocodiles. We highly recommend this tour!
This is a very professionally run tour company with excellent vehicles and very knowledgeable guides. We went as a family with my 7 y/o daughter and were very pleased with the variety of the itinerary - incredible to see a number of crocodiles in the wild on the Daintree river, an amazing rainforest walk bought to life by oue guide Graeme, a paradise beach at Cape Tribulation, and of course my daughter loved the ice cream place! Highly recommended.
John was good, friendly Lunch was nice - good selection We saw crocodiles and a cassowary which was very special.
A really great tour. Managed to get a lot done without feeling overly rushed. Our guide Rowan was really knowledgeable and thoughtful. It's a big day but totally worth it to see the daintree.
Our guide James was very knowledgeable and we learnt a lot. Loved the Daintree walk and we were so lucky to see a Cassowary, what a privilege! Daintree River cruise was also excellent, fabulous guide on our boat! A wonderful day.
We had a very informative tour. The guide was excellent
Terrific day. Pick up on time, adequate information beforehand, heaps of information during the day about place, some of the history, and practical timing arrangements. Marvellous to see different parts of the Daintree zone including a river cruise and crossing, rainforest, and Cape Tribulation. Quite a bit of walking around at various stops during the day, surrounded by magnificent nature. Memorable!
Apart from Viator causing some confusion with the time and pickup location It was all a really good day. Our guide and bus driver Andy saved the day on more than one occasion, firstly by locating where to pick us up and secondly by rearranging the itinerary when the ferry across the Daintree River had a mechanical problem. Andy arranged for us to go to the Daintree River Cruise where we were given a hot drink and biscuits and then straight onto the cruise. The 2 staff on the cruise were light hearted and fun as well as very professional. They took us to see several crocodiles which they knew by name, size and history. From there we went to Mt Alexandra Lookout with great views to the sea. Then it was on to lunch at The Heritage Lodge where we were served a delicious lunch and opportunity to swim in the creek. Then we walked off our lunch at the Madja Boardwalk with our guide Andy who was very knowledgeable about a lot of the flora and fauna that we didn’t know. From there we went to Cape Tribulation where we walked to the beach and a nearby lookout. On the trip home we called into the Daintree Ice Cream company where we enjoyed a triple flavoured tropical fruit ice cream. Throughout the day Andy told us about the local sugar cane industry and the farmers dilemma. He also told us a lot about Capt. Cook and the reason for naming Cape Tribulation. It was an amazing day packed full of points of interest and information. We highly recommend it.
Pleasant place even in the winter. The heritage train ride and the Daintree Rainforest experience were way too rushed , but still gave taste of the place.
This is an all day tour and a lot of time is spent picking up people at different spots in Cairns & Port Douglas. You might enjoy doing a driving tour on your own to save that time. My husband was happy to not have to drive especially since it is the opposite side of the road from the US. The boat ride was good and we got to see lots of crocodiles. The walk through the rainforest was not too exciting. We did see a cassowary off the road as we were driving which was very cool.
Not at all good value for money. Perhaps one of the most boring trips we’ve ever done and absolutely not what we were hoping! Having visted the Daintree previously (many years ago) and done an exciting trip in a 4x4 vehicle with an experienced guide who told countless stories and gave information about many things in the Daintree forest we were disappointed in this trip. In a nutshell: - was not a small group as promised on the website, but a group of around 20 people, with at least another 3 of the same 4x4 buses in convoy all travelling the identical route. - a rushed approach at each place: “sit down, eat and be at the bus in 30 minutes” kinda thing. - guide was ok, friendly enough, but no click with anyone in the group and seemed lijke someone had just pressed the “repeat button” in the morning. Not particularly enthusiastic. - Spent most of the time sitting in the bus or eating. The bus windows fogged up all the time (high humidity and rain) so couldn’t even see much out of the windows. - “Guided boardwalk with experienced guide” was a total disappointment! Guide had no control over the group at all and the group was so varied in age and level of fitness that it was impossible to cater for all needs. But the lady that was 98 years old (doing the trip with her husband of 102 years!) beat the whole group around the circuit together with us! The rest of the group was SO slow, but the guide didn’t interact or tell anything special at all so we walked on and did a self-guided tour! My kids, always up for a bit of adventure where bored out of their minds! - Food at restaurant was okay. If you’re up for a boring, overpriced tour and being herded around like cattle from one place to the next with many many others then this is for you! If you want to walk, learn, experience nature in an exciting fun-filled dynamic tour look for something else or go in own vehicle, the roads where all very good, no need for 4WD along the route we were taken! Boat tour along the river was well worthwhile, saw lots of crocs!
Daintree and Cape Tribulation An all day trip from Cairns to Cape Tribulation with pick up at 7am and return by 6.15 pm The tour included a drive to the Daintree and with a finish at cape tribulation. The Tour included a one hour cruise on the Daintree River where we experienced seeing crocodiles, up to 6, lounging on the side of the river. Our guide/driver was Graeme. He was extremely knowledgeable regarding the eco climates of the Daintree and presented them well with a touch of Australian humour Our tour vehicle was a 4 wheel drive high clearance 12 seat bus built for off road conditions ( actually the roads well made and did not consider this form of vehicle necessary) NOTE we were in the very back seat as we were the last picked up. These seats were over the rear axle and we felt every bump in the road, big time, and there were many of those. A very uncomfortable ride. If taking this tour avoid these seats if possible I have no reservation in throughly recommending this tour, and if possible, Graeme
This tour is well worth the money! We had done a tour a few days earlier in K’Gari and I hoped this wouldn’t be too similar. This one was one of a kind! It seemed to take our bus group of 16 people a little time to warm up to Daniel, our efficient and interesting tour guide / driver. Then again it was a very early start for everyone. Yes, there is a lot of driving - this is clear from the description of the full day (11 hours all in) but on the way there was commentary helping the time pass. Daniel also slowed down and pointed out a papa cassowary with two chicks on the side of the road. The order of our stops varied from the usual itinerary but we still did them all and there was plenty of time at each of them. First stop was at a quick rest area for a comfort break with a juice box and cookies (this felt a little like a school trip lol). Next stop was at Wali Wugirriga for a quick photo opportunity at a lookout. Then the much anticipated rain forest walk on the elevated boardwalk. The highlight of this was definitely spotting a python in a tree! I don’t think this is common so what a chance that was for us! Then we had a next stop at a refreshing creek for a quick dip (only 3 of us went in) and a yummy lunch which we had pre-ordered from the bus. All the reviewers mention the Daintree ice cream company and this did not disappoint! Lastly was the riverboat ride and this was also excellent. The crocodiles that call the river home were spotted as well as a young croc and several native birds. We all learned a thing or two about FNQ wildlife. A quick iced tea was offered thenany of us dozed while Daniel kept us safe and comfortable taking us “home”.
I had an amazing day on the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation Full Day Tour. From start to finish, everything was well organised, and our guide, John, was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the region. The scenery was absolutely stunning, and I loved learning about the unique rainforest ecosystem, local wildlife, and the history of the area. The itinerary was well paced, giving me plenty of time to enjoy each stop without feeling rushed.
