Today we visited the Tomb of the Pharaohs exhibition in Cairns. A fascinating historical look into the 1st dynasty, around 3000BC right up to King 'Tut', 1343BC and how archeologists unearthed various tombs from the valley of the Kings. The Exhibition was endorsed by the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Incredible that there is this accessibility and replication opportunities in NQ. Amazing
Absolutely brilliant from start to gift shop
For lovers all of things Ancient Egypt this is a fantastic exhibition not to be missed. The lady at the front ticket counter deserves a shout out for being so welcoming and enthusiastic. The exhibition itself is really well done, from the lighting to the background music all working together to bring the displays to life. What a fascinating history and such beautiful rituals and objects.
Quite an extensive display of remanufactured articles from the time of the pharaohs . A number of tombs, sarcophagus on display with quite extensive descriptions. These covered hundreds of years and various Pharaohs. A good part of the exhibit covered the sarcophagus of pharaoh Tutankhamun and the archeological riches buried with him We have had the great pleasure of visiting Egypt some years ago to see some of these treasures first hand. On that basis it was a bit disappointing the the exhibit seemed to have totally overlooked the reign of Ramses 11, arguably the greatest pharaoh of them all At $52 per adult, it was reasonable costly, Still, very good
Wonderful exhibition. Each room was captivating. Could easily go back the next day. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Significantly better than I'd expexcted. Highly realistic replicas of the sarcophagi, furniture and other items found within each royal tomb with the replicas showing the state the items were in when placed rather than found by later archaeologists. Excellent descriptions at every step of the way. I've not seen anything quite like it. Recommended.
Fantastic!! Simply amazing even though we’ve been to Egypt. The attention to detail, the layout, explanations, lighting, just everything was thoughtful and respectful to the subject matter. Highly recommend it for any visitor to Cairns!
The kids found some part scary but it was Interesting for the adults but not the kids. Spent 45 minutes total. Interesting replicas. If I went without the kids I probably would enjoy this more
My wife is an avid eygptian history fan, not so me. Upon entering we asked if a wheelchair was available for me, the staff quickly brought one out for me. It made the tour much easier. The exhibition was incredible and I must say I enjoyed it as much as my wife. I would like to thank the staff who were wonderful and answered our questions. Have a look at the exhibition, you will be surprised.
Brilliant. went around twice, first taking photo's then revisited taking more in depth study of the displays. i know a fair bit about egypt but still learned a bit more. death masks... king Tut and Psusennes's look very similar, maybe a template of sorts so make up your own mind on the King Tut's mask perhaps belonging to his step mum. so worth the money and i did get the ticket to the aquarium again brilliant.
Excellent displays of popular pharahs, gods, funerary items etc. Wall coverings first class. No complaints at all.
यह जगह देखने लायक थी Our family visit to tombs of the pharoahs in Cairns was nothing short of amazing. The attention to detail and the quality of the exhibits completely exceeded our expectations. It is deeply engaging, beautifully organized, and incredibly immersive. The hospitality of the team made us feel right at home. A special shoutout must go to Danni, who was extra helpful and made our visit truly unforgettable. She has a beautiful smile that makes you feel instantly welcome! Danni has a lot of knowledge and was so happy to explain everything to us, even answering my son’s million questions in a fun, educational, and age-appropriate way. It is so rare to find a venue that keeps the entire family captivated from start to finish, but they managed it perfectly. Thank you for a wonderful day! Seeing my family so happy and engaged made the day incredibly special. I cannot recommend this place enough! it is an absolute must visit! भगवान आपका भला करे। Sharma Family
Incredible detail and brilliant life sized like for like replicas of the tombs. Descriptions of everything were also great. Staff were very friendly and will wonder around giving more details about particular items and eras.
Terrible. Everything was made of resin, not to scale. Information was great but very disappointing
We loved the whole exhibit it is really thoughtfully curated and all the staff were so friendly. A must do while you’re in Cairns
amazing place lots to do and see. recomend!!!!
I visited Tomb of the Pharaohs with my 4 and 6 kids and it completely exceeded expectations. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in the exhibits is incredible, and you can tell a huge amount of thought and care has gone into building a truly immersive experience. There’s a lot of information throughout, so it really caters to those with a deep knowledge on the topic right through to novices like me. what stood out was how visually engaging the entire walk-through is. As a local, I really appreciate seeing businesses invest in new and innovative attractions that help make Cairns the vibrant destination it is. Experiences like this add something genuinely different to the region. We’re already planning a return visit to try one of the guided evening tours, which I imagine would add even more depth and storytelling to the experience. Definitely worth a visit, especially for families or anyone looking for something a little different.
Very interesting well presented , staff friendly and informative. Lots of information and explanations
Fantastic experience great atmosphere from start to finish and so much information. Highly recommend
Amazing reproductions of 11 Egyptian tombs and artifacts! Wonderful detailed explanations. Absolutely phenomenal!
As an Egyptian myself, I was very impressed to see an ancient Egyptian museum that is able to replicate very closely how the Tombs of the Pharaohs in Valley of the Kings in Egypt would’ve looked thousands of years ago when the Pharaohs were buried. I have visited the major museums in Egypt and I haven’t seen any exhibition like this that is able to create a context for how the Pharaohs were buried. I was provided with a better understanding of the different burial items and what they were intended for. This is a great to get immersed into the amazing ancient Egyptian culture before making a trip to Egypt!
If you want there's alot of reading, they have write ups about every exhibit. They have done an excellent job of putting it together.
Amazing, Full of information , Loved it
I really enjoyed this exhibition. The reproductions are Egyptian made and ethically sourced. The experience is fascinating and comfortable.
Very well presented. Amazing to see all the detail of the tombs and the information of each one. Makes me want to visit the real deal in Egypt.
Fantastic quality presentation. Educational information with each tomb presented as could be seen today. The accompanying replica artefacts of excellent quality.
Really enjoyable experiance. Loved that there was descriptions on items on display. Items on display are replicates not real items however alot of care has been taken to replicate. The exhibit has been put together very well time you are walking through each individual tomb. Staff are also very friendly and helpful and were sure to explain experience to us prior and asked hiw it was at the end when exiting. Not a timed exhibit so can take at your own pace.. also accessible
Three hours passed in a flash. Had not expected to spend this long at the exhibition but the sheer quantity of exhibits, the detailed descriptions and the superb curation all made for a fascinating experience. 10/10
The staff the super friendly, the displays were designed and signed in a very easy to read way. Good bundle price with the aquarium package, definitely worth a stop!
When I visited the Tomb of the Pharaohs, I didn’t not quite know what to expect, considering it’s a short stroll from the pubs and restaurants in the middle of Cairns, and a long way from Egypt. Firstly, I was fascinated by how brilliantly it has all been put together. When I entered, I was greeted by Archaeologist Sandra. She absolutely beamed passion, not only for her role at the exhibit, but Ancient Egypt in general. Her enthusiasm absolutely increased my excitement about what I would find inside. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. After a few minutes chatting, it was clear that this is far more than just an exhibition to her, it’s a lifelong passion. Even just being welcomed by her immediately set the tone for the entire visit. Unfortunately for me, there were no tours running when I visited. But honestly, after seeing what’s inside, I would highly consider coming back again. The design of the exhibition has the slightly eerie feeling of ancient tombs which really added to the experience. I’m not sure if it was the aircon or the immersion, but I got a shiver upon seeing the sarcophagus! The lighting, layout and atmosphere pull you into the story in a way I didn’t expect. I enjoyed the recreated artifacts, as this allowed me to get up close and personal to see the incredible detail, craftsmanship and authenticity. I liked how this differed to museums where everything is behind glass or out of reach. Personally, I think this style of exhibit makes the history feel real and immersive. This is such a unique experience and something completely different from anything else in Cairns. Whether you’re interested in Ancient Egypt or just love immersive experiences, this is an absolute must see. My next visit will definitely be for a guided tour as I just know that I will learn something extra, especially if someone like Sandra is leading it!
The Tombs of The Pharaohs was just awesome to visit. Very well done and set out. Quinn was the best tour guide I've ever met
The artifacts were amazing! Very nicely designed - loved the walls and ceilings - cerh educational and child friendly definitely recommend
Very nicely presented! A lots of information and knowledge of egypt! The visual display can make us have stronger memory and understand more about pyraid and mummy!
Our tour guide, Sandy really made this tour exceptional! The quality of the exhibit and her knowledge of facts and Egyptian history were highly impressive! What a great experience.
Loved it. My parents said it was a perfect replication of the origionals they had seen in the museums overseas. Great for families.
We did the night tour with Sandra and it did not disappoint ! Not only were the artefacts world class, but archaeologist Sandra’s passion for sharing her knowledge of history kept us engaged and interested the whole tour. Every question was answered with a detailed explanation and overall we are so happy we booked and got to experience Egypt in cairns !
A very enjoyable visit. So much content and information. Despite being replicas, we could appreciate the craftsmanship and detail.
I was in Cairns for work and found myself with a bit of time to spare before heading to the airport, so I decided to drop into the Tomb of the Pharaohs on a general admission ticket. It turned out to be one of the most impressive experiences I’ve had on a business trip. I learned an incredible amount. Sandra, the archaeologist on site, was outstanding. Her passion, depth of knowledge, and ability to explain the history behind the exhibit made the visit far more engaging than I anticipated. You could tell immediately that she genuinely loves what she does, and that enthusiasm is infectious. I’ll absolutely be coming back with my wife and kids next time we’re in Cairns. This is a world-class experience. Very impressed.
As a European traveller who has explored historical sites and museums across the globe, Tomb of the Pharaohs in Cairns genuinely stands out as a world-class experience. The level of detail, the quality of the presentation, and the immersive atmosphere are exceptional. You can absolutely enjoy the exhibit on a self-guided visit, as I did, and still gain a great appreciation for this extraordinary civilisation. However, the guided tour that is offered is unquestionably the superior option. I had limited time but I was fortunate to meet Sandra, the on-site archaeologist during my visit. The way she captures this civilisation, with passion, respect, and a remarkable sense of honour for the culture truly elevates the entire experience. Her insight adds a richness that transforms the exhibit from impressive to unforgettable. Whether you’re deeply interested in history or simply curious, this is an experience not to be missed. I left thoroughly impressed and it became an unexpected highlight of my time in Cairns.
I loved how immersive the experience was! Each artifact was replicated exactly like the real version would be allowing you to feel like you were a part of the history. The staff were so lovely and checked in with you throughout the experience ready to answer any questions you had!
It was a lovely and educational experience, the art on the walls was very immersive as well as the music. The staff are lovely and willing to explain questions when needed.
Interesting, amazing artefacts, brilliantly explained by Sandra, archaeologist. Well worth paying the extra for the guided tour, the archaeologist was very knowledgeable and made the extensive history of the pyramids, pharoahs and excavations captivating and fascinating. She was happy to answer questions to clarify, and to expand on facts when we asked her to. Can't recommend highly enough, the care taken to recreate exhibits in the Cairo Museum and the pyramids themselves, by using artisans from the Cairo Museum was incredibly impressive. Obviously the exhibits aren't done to scale due to practicality, but still awesome.
We did the sunset tour with the guide Fantastic display and information. Highly recommend doing the guided tour. Our guide was Sydney. She was brilliant and made it a memorable experience full of knowledge. The display was so real and I highly recommend it. Amazing 👏
Thank you so much for creating this world class, one of a kind, exhibition and bringing it to our city of Cairns. The exhibit exceeded my expectations - the bringing to life of the tombs as they would have been, the intricate detail of all the items , the authenticity, the overall general display and of course your wonderful staff who answered questions, shared insights and info with their passion. I will spread the word far and wide - this is a must see. I lived and worked in Egypt as a tour guide just over 30 years ago and my love for the country and all its history was reignited as I walked through the displays. I will be back - must do the night tour! Well Worth the admission fee. If you are a lover of Ancient Egypt/history allow 1.5 - 2 hours to visit.
My experience was amazing ! So much cool stuff to look at and learn about The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable without over crowding you ! Only one in the world ( besides Egypt) have to check it out !
Went on sunset tour of the tomb of Pharaohs exhibition and it was excellent . Tour guide was great in sharing the information on the tombs in the exhibition. If in Cairns do this along with the Aquarium, both excellent .
This is a very well done exhibit. It took 2 years to prepare. All of the items are reproductions but it still gives you a glimpse of what the teams who found these tombs must have experienced. The hieroglyphics on the walls and ceilings makes you feel like you are in a tomb. The life sized exhibits are fabulous. We have been to Valley of the Kings but you do not get to spend much time in a tomb due to the number of tourists. This was a pleasant journey to stroll through this exhibit at our own pace.
We visited the Tomb of the Pharaohs a couple of months ago, and honestly, we were over the moon with what we saw! The entire experience felt incredibly real—like stepping straight into ancient Egypt. From the moment we entered, we were immersed in a world of mystery, grandeur, and rich history. You could easily spend half a day there, and still feel like there's more to uncover. Every corner holds something fascinating, whether it's intricate carvings, lifelike recreations, or captivating stories of the pharaohs and their legacy. It's amazing how much history is packed into such a compact space. If you're even remotely interested in ancient civilizations or just love a good adventure, this place is a must-see. It's educational, awe-inspiring, and unforgettable. We left feeling like we'd just walked through a portal to another era.
