Had a great experience here. I only had a limited time here due to needing to catch the Kuranda train. Would love to have spent more time here. Great birds. Same with the butterfly sanctuary, I wish this place was bigger. They even have a cassowary which was great

Birdworld has a huge variety of native and exotic birds, all living together in a large habitat with environmental niches for everyone. It's a fun experience, watching the birds eat, preen, snooze and generally hang out. It's a fairly popular attraction, so can be busy. It's also not fully shaded, so take a hat on a hot day. Staff advised some of the birds had been a bit feisty and nibbling on people lately, but we didn't see anything concerning.
Small but worth the visit for the main aviary. Up close and direct with the birds. Very beautiful! It only takes 30 minutes but my family enjoyed seeing the birds up close.
I enjoyed seeing the birds up close and personal and the lovely enclosure for them. I would recommend going outside the train operating hours if you really value birdlife without crowds, as it does get busy with tourists, and having only one staff member on the admissions table wasn't ideal. I think next time I'll do the pre-opening tour.
Very friendly staff, allow multiple entries if you have spare time before the train and some wonderfully friendly and character filled birds in the free flight area. Shout out to Royce, the very sweet little green parrot who sat on my shoulder the whole walk around. Turns out he has a thing for tall men!! This is a lovely little attraction with a great free flight area, friendly birds (but yeah, they’re wild animals so can nip if you’re annoying them!) and such helpful and knowledgeable staff Well worth a visit and a good spot to hang out in whilst waiting for your train or bus
I was terribly distressed seeing these birds trapped in a relatively small area for their size. While it meets legal limits, the noise coming from the pump was torture and the birds could not escape it. The water pump drove me crazy being in there and I had to get away. The Cassowary was traumatised I felt, sitting in the corner repeatedly making a sound to himself. Those birds roam very wide areas naturally. The other birds were beautiful but overall I found it a distressing experience and felt the enclosure was just too small for such big birds such as Macaws and the Cassowary and the number of birds in the one place. Overall it was depressing.
It is a wonderful experience to see such a variety of colourful and exotic birdlife at Birdworld Kuranda. You will see Lorikeets, Parakeets, Parrots, Cockatoos, Galahs, Swans and the intimidating looking Cassowary. I spent about an hour looking around the various birds on site.
We visited Birdworld Kuranda during our trip and absolutely loved it — an easy 5 stars from us. It’s not a huge attraction, but that’s actually part of what makes it so enjoyable. We spent around 20–25 minutes there and felt it was the perfect amount of time to really take it all in without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The best part is how close you can get to so many different birds. A lot of them freely walk or fly around you, and if you’re lucky, some will even land on your shoulder or head which makes for some great photos and a really memorable experience. The birds all looked healthy and well cared for, and the whole place had a relaxed rainforest atmosphere that fit perfectly with Kuranda. Staff were friendly and happy to help identify birds or give tips on getting them to interact with you. Definitely recommend visiting if you’re in the area, especially for families, animal lovers, or anyone wanting something a bit different and interactive.
Me and my friends’ visited Birdworld, butterfly sanctuary, and koala gardens, and birdworld was all of our favourite. The birds eat out of your hands and lad on your arms. They’re so friendly and comfortable with humans. It was such a fun and social experience. We all loved it. The birds are stunningly beautiful and colourful - wide variety of them.
Magical experience here with so many different types of birds to appreciate and feed. Many are very playful and not shy amongst humans and so it is a real delight being able to interact so closely with so many different gorgeous birds. A really amazing experience - it was so special to observe the very different behaviours and temperaments of the different kinds of birds. We will be definitely returning on our next trip to North Queensland!
Very easy to find in Kuranda, well signposted. There were a few varieties of native Australian birds there and some others, well worth a visit.
This is a great little place to visit if you like birds and you don’t mind them flying around you. It’s suited for all ages. The birds are free to roam and when you first walk into their aviary they will look at you with curiosity to see if you have any treats for them. Each bird has its own funny little character and they are happy, healthy and well fed. The aviary offers a variety of large and small birds. You can also buy a cheap little bag of bird treats to feed them at the entry, which is fun to do. The entry fee was good for value I thought and you can buy an entry ticket when you first arrive there. The roaming birds are very tame and will happily sit on your arm or shoulder if you offer them something yummy. It was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was alright. Not many birds as shown. Saw a few of them. Not sure if it’s worth for the price. To benefit the rescue team it would be ok to contribute
I LOVED this place. I kept going back to have more time with the birds, many are rescues and hand-reared and very friendly. The staff are wonderful- so kind, friendly and informative. If I could live here I would!
If you love birds this is the place to go. Plenty of birds to see. The birds will take your earrings or anything sparkly. Enjoyable visit.
This was a bit hidden but a fun thing to do in Kuranda. Lots of birds up real;ly close and knowledgeable people inside. The ice cream place at the front door is also really good. We had a particular parrot follow us as we walked around it was endearing.
What a fantastic place! The whole family really enjoyed interacting with the birds, feeding them and having them climb on us. Hubby did get bitten a few times as did I by a very cheeky Mackaw who wasn’t impressed I didn’t have his favorite treats. He liked my son though who had him dancing along as he sang to him. Thoroughly recommend visiting!
My husband and I had a great time at Birdworld! After reading that we'd be able to see and feed all types of birds, we felt that this was a must-do. In addition to entry fee, we paid a nominal fee for a bag of bird food which included grades, corn, and all different types of seeds. We saw many different types of birds, including a Southern cassowary, macaws, eclectus parrot, green-cheeked conures, cockatoos, ducks! Some birds did not seem interested in our food, but would still hop on our shoulders for a ride. For the most part, the birds for very friendly except the green eclectus parrot- it bit both me and my husband. Besides that, we had a great time interacting with so many different birds and would visit again.
Lovely place to walk around and look at the birds. Not huge, but the whole aviary is enclosed and easily walkable. There is also an area to feed the birds. Even if you're not feeding them they may land on your shoulders. I did get nipped by one parrot, but then had a lovely conversation with another who whistled and meowed at me. We spent quite a while just watching the antics of the various birds.
Best part of Kuranda. Birds coming and sitting on my he'd without prompting. Very knowledgeable keepers. Seeing birds nestin on eggs was amazing. Receptionist was really helpful with tickets, as the Butterfly Sanctuary didn't tell me I needed a receipt to get a discount at Bird World. I spent way too long here because I was having so much fun.
This was very small, it was super dirty and all the birds are filthy. It gave me tiger king vibes and wasn't worth paying to see imho.
Amazing!!! I absolutely loved Birdworld Kuranda. It is a great open aviary where the birds are so sweet and land on you and you can pet them. I loved all of the birds, but absolutely fell in love with two of the Alexandrine parrots that were the sweetest, snuggliest, and cuddliest birds I have ever seen. I definitely recommend a visit to Birdworld Kuranda.
What a terrific experience. Walk among the native birds. So many varieties. Feed them by hand. A sensational experience.
I had the best time at Birdworld Kuranda!! The birds were incredible and so friendly. I purchased bird food at the front for a very cheap price, which attracted dozens of birds to sit on my shoulder. I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time and had so much fun. I loved how interactive the experience was; you got the rare chance to be up close with the most beautiful, exotic birds and admire them from both close and afar. I also loved the Cassowary down the back of the enclosure.
Lots of cute, very tame birds, mostly exotic parrots. The area is not too big, but it’s worth it. The big blue and yellow parrots are a bit naughty so now and then and try to take a nip.
An excellent opportunity to get close to some beautiful birds, and as others have mentioned some of them will land on you, providing great photo opportunities. They also have a cassowary - we've been fortunate enough to see a couple of them in the wild in the Daintree, but if that's not on the cards for you then this is a good alternative to seeing this extraordinary bird.
Amazing little Avery where the birds are interactive and want to approach you for food, the Avery isn’t very big, if you don’t like birds you would be in and out in 5 minutes, you can spend as short or as long as you like here, admission is probably a bit expensive for what it is, though it’s an experience you should do.
Beautiful Birds to see, they were very calm and friendly. Quite a few different species in Birdworld. I got to see the Cassowary up close which my younger sister enjoyed.
Birds were okay paid $50.00 walked around bird sanctuary whole cicuit took two minutes .wouldn't recondmend going there total waste of time n money no transport from kuranda railway for pensioner or people who cant walk properly .myself have walking stick from staion they say seven minutes its all up hill they need some sort of transport for the elderly .the markets there in kuranda what a rip off that also is another waste of time n money on scale of 1 to 10 miy rating .5
This is very touristy and not what we expected. Not many of the birds were Australian, yet alone local to the area. Indian ring necked parrots flocked for food sitting on heads, necks and shoulders making good photo opportunities - however we were concerned about so many people spreading human disease to these birds. The cassowary needed a much larger area to roam and looked rather sad. Not the place to visit if you are a real bird lover.
It was so good, honestly didn’t expect much and loved every minute, the birds are amazing, I have never had an experience like it, will go again 💯 Make sure you buy the bird food when you enter and go as early as possible, you can hand feed the birds they come to you!
It was a lot of fun and the birds got up close - kids loved it and would recommend a visit. A lot of opportunities with photos with the birds I had like 4 on me at one stage.
We took the train up to Kuranda and it was a nice walk from the station to birdworld. My husband is a big bird lover and was very happy to be able to persuade a couple of them to stick with him for most of the walk through the aviary. At one point, he had three birds of the same species on him-one of which said hello over and over again. I got some great pictures of him and his new friends. Our visit was relatively short but pleasant. They also found the color of my baseball cap attractive apparently..a new experience to have a bird land on my head.
What a great experience , being with the birds feee flying , one bird did chew the button of my partners hat , we were warned
I love animals but I've never had a chance to interact with birds before and to be honest I wasn't expecting much from Kuranda Birdworld - maybe a nice way to fill some time looking at pretty creatures. So it was a wonderful surprise to step into the aviary and discover that we were sharing space with the exhibits - not just looking at them through cage bars. Better still, I had purchased a little brown paper bag of seed/nuts at the ticket counter, and the moment the birds saw that bag, I had several instant best friends. Parrots of all varieties took turns to land on my shoulders, my head, my forearms, they were hanging upside down off my handbag... one climbed under my arm for a cuddle as I was leaning on a fence railing! And they were almost all perfectly gentle and well-behaved - although sometimes a bit pushy in pursuit of an almond! This experience was so charming, we went back again the following day and it was equally fun the second time. What you need to know: 1) The aviary is large and tall so the birds can fly freely, and consists of an easy-to-access main covered feeding area, above a winding paved path that snakes around down the side of a hill and back to the top again. In the middle there are a series of filtered ponds for the ducks and other water birds. The aviary is landscaped with lots of trees and shrubs, so the birds have got plenty of spots to perch and nest. The uphill walking is not too challenging and there are hand-rails along the way. If you're enjoying the visit, you'll probably stroll around the track a few times to see all the different varieties of birds. 2) There is a bit of cover here and there in case of rain, but not a huge amount. 3) The aviary is clean and very well maintained and the animals are happy, healthy and sassy. We observed staff regularly cleaning to keep things fresh, and the staff were also lovely and open to talking about the birds and the aviary itself. 4) Some of the parrots will decide they like the look of you and just fly from wherever they are to land on your shoulder or head - it doesn't hurt but if the idea of this scares you (eeek! it's in my hair!), then this experience is perhaps not for you. 5) We arrived well before midday on both of our visits and there were still bags of bird-food available to purchase at the ticket counter. People who arrived some time after us missed out as the supply of bird food ran out. Note - It's not the end of the world if you don't get the bird food - but you certainly receive more attention from the feathered beakies if you do have some! 6) We noticed that many of the birds were reluctant to interact with the kids who were dashing about and being excitable. If you want your kids to have a great experience, see if you can get them to stand still and speak quietly, or at least move slowly and patiently. 7) The larger parrots can get a bit pushy with you (I had one force his head and entire upper body into the bag of bird food when I was too slow pulling some out), but it's not a good idea to get pushy with them. If you try to pat them, or move in a way that startles them, they may give you a nip. They don't draw blood or anything, but you know, full disclosure. Anyway, we absolutely loved Kuranda Birdworld - it was the highlight of our entire trip to QLD and considering what we spent on other activities only to receive far less satisfaction, I have to say the birds offer magnificent value for money!
Self guided stroll inside a magnificent Aviary containing various species of Macaws, Parrots and Parakeets. Also finches and smaller species. Opportunities to hand feed and interact with the birds, having them voluntarily sit on your head, hands or arms. Very highly recommended
The park is full of beautiful, tropical gardens and many different birds. The open-aviary enables an up-close experience with the animals, however can be overwhelming with birds swooping past frequently. Definitely worth a visit, combined with the other parks if you’re in the area.
A hidden gem that is suitable for all. Fair price for the experience of free flying birds in an environment filled with water features, trees and other colours that keep your head turning. An amazing variety of parrots, water birds and others including natives. Make sure you pay $3 for a bag of food that is sure to attract flying friends to your arms and shoulders if you are patient. Would be a challenge in a wheelchair, however, the main feeding area is well accessible for all. Well worth it and something unique to remember, happy to recommend.
Lots to do I’m the area. Loved the birds, lots of Australian and international birds. Small area but great for seeing different birds
We had a great time at Birdworld, my favourite activity from our FNQ trip and highly recommend for any animal lovers. It certainly was the highlight of Kurunda in our opinion. The birds are engaging, healthy and happy in a free fly avairy where you are able to hand feed them and they land on you. Great value for money for such an engaging experience at $20pp. Recommend not wearring your favourite clothes as they may bite at your clothing or hat and you will get dirty from them landing on you but that is part of what makes the experience great.
This place is a must if you love birds and want to interact with them. They are free to fly and visit you if they want to. We watched a Black Cockatoo feeding its young and chatted to a cute Amazon parrot along with so many others. I will always visit when in the area.
Lots of friendly birds, many varieties and even perched on our shoulders! The paper guide did not include all bird species in the aviary however, and it would have been helpful to have the birds ordered by type to make identification easier. Enjoyed and enthralled
It's a place full of exotic birds. You get exactly what you pay for. Also glad I got to see one cassowary in Australia. That mother was worth the ticket alone.
This is a free flying aviary, so the birds are literally everywhere inside here. They will eat out of your hand (if they're hungry) and some of the cheekier ones will land on your head and pick ar your hat band! Rather than being a vicious dinosaur, their cassowary rather likes grapes, and all the other birds are rather polite and precise when they eat out of your hand. You are not likely to get your fingers pinched, so go ahead, just be sensible.
A really awesome experience. The birds are friendly and are curious. They sit on peoples hands and shoulders. A great way to see the birds up close
My husband and I loved our visit to bird world. We went late afternoon so it was quiet My husband had a parakeet stay on his shoulder for a walkabout the aviary which made his day. Lovely big aviary and friendly staff, all the birds looked healthy and we got some great photos
Great collection of birds in a fairly small space. Not all local birds, about half were from other tropical regions such as South America. But it was fun to walk around them.
After reading reviews I didn’t know what to expect but we really had a great time. There were so many birds to feed. They would fly onto your arm or shoulder or hat. They were all attentive and awake despite the soaring heat. I was also so excited to see a cassowary after unsuccessfully seeing one anywhere else. My children and husband all loved interacting with the birds.
The whole place has very friendly and eager birds, would recommend getting there earlier as they do limit how much seeds the birds can have each day, so if you go later in the day you may miss out. The birds there all knew that the bags meant food, so they all seemed more than happy to interact with the visitors, and get a snack. The naturalistic rain forest design meant the birds had lots of locations to retreat if they wanted to. There were a large variety of species of birds.
Felt sorry for the birds, they seemed to be having an afternoon sleep and kept getting woken up by pesky people interrupting them. They did not seem very friendly.
