The hotel is housed in a 16th-century castle-palace, formerly owned by the Counts of Oropesa. It was famously used as a residence by the king Charles V, between 1556 and 1557 after his abdication, before he moved to the nearby Monastery of Yuste. The building preserves many original architectural features, including towers a gothic interior gallery, and a central courtyard. It has been carefully restored to combine historic charm with modern comfortable four start hotel.

Beautiful old castle with impressive history, lovingly transformed into a comfortable hotel with great bar and restaurant. Can't recommend highly enough. Beds are comfortable but a bit on the small side!
Each parador is somewhat different and this is best for it’s structure as a castle, with lovely grounds (and a pool) and a nice courtyard for drinks. But the salons are more like museum rooms rather than ones to linger in. The food is reliably good in paradores these days, lots of local specialties, and great service.
The two rooms we rented were small but comfortable and nicely decorated. The bathrooms both had jetted tubs that I didn’t have time to try. There was a nice large swimming pool that I wished it had been warmer to use. It was warm enough to have dinner in the interior courtyard, and the food, service and ambiance were excellent. The Parador opened in 1966, and it was originally the 14th century castle of the Counts of Oropesa.
This castle is an amazing place to stay - a unique experience. Room was very good; staff were friendly and very helpful; especially Andrea who was outstanding! Thanks for helping with wine & food choices! Particularly appreciated being amongst predominantly Spanish speaking visitors. Thoroughly enjoyed Spanish culture and village life - local Festival with street procession, bull running and the locals having a great party time!
