Really enjoyed the visit to Maison Champy. I was the only English speaker and they called ahead to see if I wanted to switch to another time (for my convenience), which I was unable to do. My guide moved through the tour, providing information in both English and French and was diligent about including me. It was a good amount of information, particularly during the tasting with the maps, comparisons, etc. Recommend!

Very nice experience, our guide Hortence had a lot of knowledge about wine and area. Nice cave tour and nice tasting of 5 wines. 1,5 hours is just perfect.
Hortense was an excellent guide, she was very knowledgeable about the wines and how they were classified according to quality.
Did the tour with Hortense at Maison Champy yesterday afternoon. It was welcoming, informative and fun… it does help when you are doing a tour/tasting that your host is so friendly and engaging. Tour was seamlessly conducted in English and French and the wine chosen was wonderful. Having done other tours/tastings in Beaune, this is the one I’d recommend to anyone coming to the city. Merci Hortense et Maison Champy.
Great English speaker Very interesting and detailed information about the wine region. Highly recommended to go The wine tasting was superb, with 2 whites and 3 reds
Excellent presentation about the long history of this Burgundian producer that was comprehensive and aided by helpful screen that showed the different subregions that Champy works with. The visit to the cellars enabled a deeper dive into that history with bottles dating to the 19th century. The tasting of 2 whites and 3 reds was illuminating and interactive with our guide Daniel. The 10 people was the right number for the tour as well. The whole facility combined the historic nature of the building with its Eiffel iron supports and completely updated architecture/decor.
Lovely tour with great tastings. Lots of cool history. Our guide was very informative and friendly.
Very pedagogical and knowledgeable guide. Very interesting tour. Excellent tasting.
We had very enjoyable tour and tasting my husband daughter and friend. We were accompanied by another so there plenty space opportunities to ask questions and see the Maison Champy with all its long history. The guide was very good and welcoming and obviously well informed. We very much enjoyed the wines we tasted and we did in fact buy some. This was the first tasting where we paid to taste which we found better than a free tasting where you can feel duty bound to buy some wine even if you were not sure about the wine! 🍷 We would all highly recommend a visit to Maison Champy. Christina Darren Klara and Will from the Uk and Sweden.
Thank you Hortence for a great tour. I had no idea @ Louis Pasteur and Gustave Eiffel's connection to Champy! See/learn about what's surrounding Beaune and below your feet in this lovely town. The tasting is accompanied by an appellation map and a thorough description of the Burgundy wine region and what you are drinking. You have time to look at the historical documents and enjoy a delightful tour right in the heart of Beaune. Highly recommend.
This tour was fantastic and very interesting. Learn/see about the Champy connection to Gustave Eiffel and Louis Pasteur, and how burgundy wines used to be solely for religious use and were opened up to the world. Loads of history and good tasting to follow with a large map of the area showing you appellation, ratings, and you leave with a great overview of the wines of Burgundy. You also get to see what's underground the lovely town of Beaune.
I had an excellent experience at Maison Champy. Our host was knowledgeable and friendly. I thought the wine was partciculary good and reasonably priced. I'd recommend the visit to all
Excellent guide and wonderful tour of the cellars. Great information about the area and the vineyards and wines of the region. Wine tasting was stellar.
An outstanding tour and tasting experience. The cellars are stunning and the history of the place is fascinating as well. And then the wines her were exceptional- complex, fresh, varied and poured with patience and an expert guidance. Warm and friendly as it was informative. Would recommend to everyone visiting Beaune.
Daniel was a very nice tour guide, the stories about history and the Burgundy region very interesting. The wine tasting was rather disappointing. I had the “prestige” tasting which is 30€ more than the “terroir”. The difference was more or less that I found a Corton Grand Cru in my tasting (list price 170€). The wine was from 2022 so way too young. Daniel told us that the wine would be great in 8 years… so why then open this bottle? Such a pity.
We learned the rich history of Maison Champy and got to taste some beautiful wines while learning about where the grapes are grown and the process they go through. Our guide was lovely - Hortence, I think - she was very pleasant and informative. Highly recommend!
What a beautiful building. The hostess was very friendly and passioned about the wines. We were the only one around that time so we got kind of a private tour ;) We were very amazed by the history and the cellars. The wines tasted very nice and we bought 2 bottles of the whites. We recommend visiting 100%!
Outstanding presentation by the guide. Guide lead us through the caves and winery! Very welcoming and informative. Great facility! Signage to enter needs to be improved.
The guide was very very knowledgeable easy to follow and went to the right amount of depth. The history was fascinating and the explanation of wines in tasting was exceptional.
The tour was lovely and well executed. Our tour guide, Daniel, was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Though the summer here is absolutely amazing, coming this time of year offers you a quieter more personalized experience as you often have places and tours to yourself. We absolutely recommend doing a tour here!
We had a wonderful visit at Maison Champy. Pauline was amazing and provided loads of information and stories. The Tasting experience at the end of the tour was of course superb! We highly recommend to anyone visiting Beaune to visit Champy as this winery perfectly located in the center of the old town is also quite a museum. Thank you
Wonderful experience in a very charming and historical place. The guide was so competent and interesting. The wine taste so good that was impossible not to buy a couple of bottles.
We recently had the pleasure of taking a wine tour at Maison Champy, and it was an exceptional experience, largely thanks to our guide, Daniele. From start to finish, the tour was informative, engaging, and thoroughly enjoyable. Our group had a lot of fun learning the rich history and process of winemaking and at last, enjoying the wine from this historic winery. Thank you, Daniele!
A very interesting and informative tour, describing the history and classifications of wines in Beaune and the surrounding area with a tasting of 5 wines. Our guide, Daniele, was very welcoming and knowledgeable, explaining the fascinating history of Maison Champy and the origin and qualities of the wines. Highly recommended!
Excellent! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable- I learned a lot. Very interesting winery history and very special to be the oldest wine WeChat in all of Burgundy!
Personal tour of the cellar with history & fantastic explanation of the Borgogne wine region and Maison Champy wine. We did the premier wine tasting which was fantastic, our guide was very knowledgeable. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours.
We had a great time learning about the region and wine making process, and the tasting was exceptional. A perfect activity for those just starting their Beaune adventure!
A wonderful experience that gave me great insight into the wines of the Burgundy region and particularly Beaune, and how accreditation happens in relation to the climat of where the grapes are grown. Pauline was an excellent host and it was quite incredible to be standing amongst cellars that were 500 years old and stretched for a kilometre under this beautiful town. There were wines from as early as 1858 and to hear of the link with Louis Pasteur and also Gustave Eiffel to Maison Champy was so interesting. The tasting was very nice too of course and the whole tour was fantastic value for money. Thank you!
Excellent tour of magnificent cellars, the guide was lovely, knowledgeable, and she spoke perfect English. The wine was good too!
Our family of four had a terrific experience today at the Maison Champy! We participated in the Cave Tour with our wonderful guide, Daniel. His knowledge of the region, winery, and history was truly impeccable and I have nothing but the highest praises for our experience. As a group from California, we are quite familiar with Napa Valley wines and have also spent time throughout various wine regions in France learning about the French wines. However, this was our first time in Beaune and we were certainly excited to grow our knowledge of wines of the Burgundy region! What we loved about this tour is how it went far beyond the introductory level. Daniel took the time at the beginning of the tour to understand our level of knowledge and experience with wine before crafting a tour which delved into greater detail about the specifics of the wine and the Burgundy region. Each of us left the experience feeling as if we'd learned a tremendous amount and had each of our questions answered so thoroughly! Beyond the tour itself, the wines were amazing! We would highly recommend this tour for any of those interested in the history of the Maison Champy, the wines of the Burgundy region, or who love to taste fabulous wines. We will certainly be back for another visit and ask for Daniel again!
Where to start? Oldest domaine in Burgundy with cellars and other fascinating artifacts to prove it. A densely packed and informative seminar on Burgundy production classification and climats. Gourmet lunch in an old wine barrel (not an exageration.). Tasting fabulous wines, including Premier Cru and Grand Cru selections. Bought a few bottles to send home. Don't miss it!
Very insightful visit of the Maison and its majestic caves! The wine testing a bit conventional, I would recommend to remain on the basic option
My wife and I recently visited Beaune for the 162nd Hospices de Beaune 2022 wine auction. The highlight of our trip was definitely visiting Maison Champy. The property has been declared a historic monument by UNESCO and was designed by the famed architect, Gustave Eiffel. It also sits above an ancient 15th-century Jacobin monk cellar, where the wines are aged in the heart of Beaune. As we walked into the historic Maison, we were greeted by a warm staff and the feeling of being in a museum that includes original art work and original posters from events which Maison Champy participated. For example, Maison Champy received a gold medal at the universal exhibitions in Paris in 1889 and in 1900, and at the universal exhibition in St Louis in the United States in 1904. Our visit also included attending a Gala - a six course dinner paired with exceptional wines and great entertainment including music and dancing. An amazing evening. Another highlight of Maison Champy is it is home to where renowned scientist, Louis Pasteur set up a laboratory and developed the pasteurization method for wines. You can see Pasteur’s laboratory equipment when visiting the Maison. A fabulous experience. They host the gala each November during the auction and tickets are open to the public. Add on - Maison Champy also has beautiful wine boutique within Beaune city center just adjacent to Hospices de Beaune - Hotel Dieu.
My wife and I enjoyed our tour. Our guide was very informed and quite pleasant. It is a beautiful facility. The wines we tasted were excellent.
Four of us traveling together, two quite familiar with wines and two not, enjoyed the tour for both its history lesson and its tastings. Our guide was a young man from Beaune who had worked in many aspects of wine production, including harvesting grapes. His English facility and sense of humor made the tour quite a delight and educational for all. He took us through the newly renovated Champy building, transformed into a gallery of photos and displays telling the story of Maison Champy from its founding in 1720. It was acquired by a new owner in 2016, who has clearly upped the publicity game to compete with the other Beaune wine houses. The historical tour took us down into the modest caves where bottles as old as 1858 were stored. Our guide was very eager to answer our questions and willing to take time to make sure we were all absorbing the information. Even though he had undoubtedly led hundreds of identical tours before, there was no sense that he was just mailing it in. Following the tour, our guide introduced us to five Maison Champy wines, two white and three red. All were from the Cotes de Beaune; two were 1er cru. Ours was the 25 euro tour. Had it been the more expensive version, the wines would have been of even better reputation. The pours were about two ounces. There was general consensus that the 1er crus deserved their status, and at the end our little group bought a few bottles of only those, both Pernand-Verglesses in red and white. The wines tasted ranged in price from 33 to 52 euros (the highest for a Pommard). The wines on offer in the small shop went up to 320 euros. Some years ago, my wife and I took the Patriarche tour. It featured more more extensive caves, but the tour group was large and guide not as personable. We recommend this tour for the novice and the experienced.
We booked this tour at the last minute and we were the only four people on the tour. Mathias was so helpful and patient with us. We learned so much about Maison Champy and wines from the region. A great experience!
We had a wonderful guide Cryiane. She perfectly explained in English about all history of Maison Champy, whats the difference of wine that's produced in Burgundy. We enjoyed very much. Thank you!
Maison Champy is already impressive with its building – and at the latest in the cellar, it is clear: Not only wine treasures are stored here, but also a great deal of history. We had booked the somewhat more extensive tour with six wines, including a barrel sample and three Grands Crus. The wines still seemed very youthful – a great future presumably included, though some patience as well. A little bread between the tastings would have been nice so that the taste buds could have taken a short breather. The tour was very informative, our guide extremely charming. We learned a lot about the history of the house and the winery. Only the many questions asked of us guests occasionally brought back memories of school lessons – fortunately, no one had to go to the blackboard. We were prepared for a wine tasting, rather less so for an oral exam. Overall, an impressive visit to a house steeped in history. With a little bread and a few fewer knowledge questions, the experience would have been even more well-rounded for us.
Very interesting visit, very well conducted and explained. It allows you to discover the history of the house and also the classification system of Burgundy wines.
A very nice ambiance and an exciting tour. However, the wine tasting is rather uncomfortable and very rushed. For the price, one can expect a bit more leisure and also some water and bread. With the cheapest wine starting at 53 euros a bottle, also not very cheap.
Friendly welcome, good summary of Burgundy wines Tasting a bit quick, not much time between 2 wines The guide "Clem" was very friendly and very professional.
Everything was fine. The guide Daniel very nice. He answered all our questions very clearly and was very nice. In addition to an interesting tasting you learn a lot of historical things and the cellars are very beautiful!
We had a great time at Maison Champy this weekend! The visit was really interesting, and our passionate Clemence guide made the experience even more enjoyable. The tasting at the end was a real pleasure. We were then greeted in the shop by Daniel, who knows wines at his fingertips and gave us excellent advice. We left delighted, with some very good bottles to enjoy.
We greatly enjoyed visiting its magnificent cellars with a sommelier guide who knows well are profession.
Visiting Beaune with Australian friends, we enjoyed visiting the cellars of the Champy house. Our guide Daniel, was particularly interesting, with a well-constructed route: a place full of history, a very didactic tasting and clear messages to help understand Burgundy climates.
Excellent experience with Daniel , we had the chance to enjoy a prestige tasting in private. Visit of the cellars of the Champy house, history of its creation and presentation of the vineyard... and the organization and classification of Burgundy wines. The highlight of the visit was the tasting of 5 wines (2 villages, 2 premier crus and 1 grand cru) We learned a lot during this very pleasant experience with our guide.
Beautiful winery in the heart of Beaune, we participated in the visit in English, the Guide was very prepared and kind .. made both the visit and the Tasting very Interesting!
Pleasure wasted.... really pity because the place and interest of the visit are worth it. I will not thank Theodore for his cold welcome and lack of empathy; certainly he knows his text very well (delivered at a fast pace), but it is a shame not to show more heart and warmth in the human relationship (in short a little base in customer reception .....). Another disappointment: it is unfortunate not to specify in the site the content of the tastings. It is well noted that 30 eur make the difference for a Prestige tasting with a Grand Cru served.... However, come and discover this Beaunois house to taste a Rully (very good by the way) or a Maconnais in the 5 wines... Also explain that the Pernand village of 2017 will not break a leg to a duck..... On this remark regarding the content of the offer on the website, Theodore was sensitive. Really bad.... This is clearly not the discovery I expected.....
Very nice visit of this Beaunois estate. The discovery part, the cellars and tasting very well.Theophile our host for this visit was perfect , fin connoisseur of the house Champy , and wine, congratulations to him, we had a very pleasant time.
Beautiful visit very well received by a talented young man who told us lots of anecdotes and what to say about the impressive cellars followed by a very nice tasting.
