Full-day Burgundy Wine & Gastonomy: Tastings & Gourmet Lunch

We had a fantastic experience on our private Burgundy Discovery tour. It was so much more than a wine tasting. We learned about every aspect of winemaking, from growing the grapes and the production process to French wine regulations and the rich history of the Burgundy region. Our guide, Tom, was exceptional. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about wine, with an impressive background in international business and fluency in multiple languages. His easy rapport with the wineries we visited made it clear that he is highly respected throughout the region. His knowledge and passion made every stop interesting and enjoyable. Tom also went above and beyond by helping us arrange shipping our wine home. Lunch was one of the best meals we had during our entire stay in France, and Tom's wine recommendation made an already wonderful meal even more special. The pacing of the day was perfect. There was never a dull moment, and nothing ever felt rushed or forced. Having pickup and drop-off directly at our hotel was another welcome convenience. We couldn't have asked for a better way to experience Burgundy. If you're considering a private wine tour in the region, we highly recommend Burgundy Discovery and, especially, Tom. He made this a truly memorable experience!

We had a great time. A perfect combination of a beautiful area, supreme wines and excellent guidance. Tom was super knowlegeable and professional, and at the same time light and fun. Came back happily drunk.

Very good guide and he was extremely knowledgeable and being originally British, there were no language problems. We stopped at three wineries, the first two were much better experiences than the last one. The included lunch was excellent.

Thomas (Tom) was our guide for our Burgundy wine tour. He communicated well prior to the tour and provided a fun day of touring and wine touring. It is clear that Tom loves sharing his incredible knowledge of wine, the Burgundy wine region, and local sites and people, and listenening to his great stories of the area provided a really fun afternoon. The wineries we visited were different so we we able to learn of small, medium, and larger wine operations. I recommend this tour, and if you are able to request a guide, Tom would be a great choice!

Out of all the guided wine tours we've done over the years, this was hands down the best. We visited three different wineries — Maison Moillard (Nuits-Saint-Georges), Domaine d'Ardhuy and Domaine Lejeune — which were all distinctly different and gave our group a true variety of Burgundy. All the wines were fantastic and the wineries welcoming. Beyond the great wine and food, our guide Tom was truly the difference maker. He was fun, engaging and extremely knowledgeable. Tom also went out of his way to make the day unique for us all and cater to the varying levels of experience. Would recommend Burgundy Discovery to another — be sure to ask for Tom!

We did a private tour of Cote de Nuits. Thomas was our driver and guide, and he was excellent! He was knowledgeable, patient, and had a great sense of humor! We learned a lot, tasted some great wines, had a delicious lunch, and had a fun time!

We had an absolutely fantastic wine tour through Burgundy and couldn’t recommend the experience more highly. The day was incredibly well organised, relaxed and informative, with a great balance between learning about the region and simply enjoying the wines and beautiful surroundings. Our guide was knowledgeable, passionate and genuinely engaging, giving us a much deeper understanding of Burgundy’s vineyards, appellations, terroir and winemaking traditions without ever making it feel overly technical. We visited some wonderful producers, tasted an excellent range of wines and had the opportunity to experience places we probably never would have discovered on our own. One of the highlights was how personal the whole experience felt. Nothing was rushed, there was plenty of time for questions and conversation, and you could really feel the connection to the local winemakers and the region. If you’re visiting Burgundy and have an interest in wine, this is an experience I would highly recommend. It was easily one of the highlights of our time in Burgundy and a day we’ll remember for a long time.

Our guide was very knowlegable and the wineries we visited were great, but lunch was certainly not a gastronomic lunch - in fact for the. area it was pretty poor and we basically had 2 small glasses of wine each with lunch - for the cost of the tour - lunch was a rip-off. We were also a bit hurried when our guide returned to pick us up. Shame as it could have been so much better! Not recommended.

Pick up was very convenient. Bus comfortable. Dylan our guide spoke really good English and was very knowledgeable. Nothing was rushed including lunch which was Devine. Could have been more wine than two glasses, but you had option to buy. Wineries chosen were great - Dylan did the final one which was the best. The trip is expensive but you won’t be disappointed.

We had booked for the day we arrived in Beaune by mistake. Stevie and the team saved us by picking us up after the morning tasting so we didn’t waste our money or day. It was so kind to grab us from our hotel so we could join the afternoon part. Truly grateful and speaks to the type of people at Bugundy Discovery. The afternoon was amazing! We sampled 11 wines at our first stop and then went to a very small wine producer where we found our favorite wine of the trip. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend booking this if you want the best experience going to incredible wineries on your visit to Burgundy. We visited 3 incredible wineries and learned so much about the regional wine. The wonderful lunch and air conditioned car during the summer heat were bonuses!

Spent the day with our guide in a clean, large, air conditioned suv. He was exceptionally well versed in the wine making process and the history of the region. He drove us through some vineyards and some wine producing towns. We got to stop several times to take pictures of the beautiful vineyards. It was interesting to also hear about the economics of wineries and the closing of vineyards in Bordeaux. I found that most fascinating. Our guide was very well versed and passionate about the information he presented. We eventually stopped at a winery tasting room and tasted several wines. After driving through some more beautiful vineyards we stopped for lunch at a modern restaurant that had many locals there having a nice upscale lunch. After lunch we went to what looked like someone's garage in a neighborhood Once inside it was a treat! We met the most friendly delightful sister in the family owned winery. Her enthusiasm and warmth was truly compelling. We saw the steel tanks and some barrels, Their wines were delicious and we all bought some wine. Lastly we drove to another town right near Beaune, a large tasting and sales room. The rep was sweet, enthusiastic and we tasted several high end delicious white and ted Burgundy. wines , from the less complex village to the highest classification wines of Montrachet. I enjoyed pretty much all of them and purchased several to ship home. We were dropped off as promised back in Beaune around 5:30. I was lucky there was only one couple with me on the tour, very congenial. We spent 1 1/2 days with Burgundy Discovery on May 26 and 27, from our hotel in Beaune. Thomas was our guide for the whole time. The overall experience was superb and Thomas was excellent! We spent time at 5 different wineries across the Cote D'Or across 2 days. Thomas was incredibly friendly and personable, and his knowledge of Burgundy wines is exhaustive. The staff at these wineries (including several of the actual winemakers) were all very friendly and engaging. In addition to the winery experience, Thomas was very informative as to the overall region, both in terms of geography, interesting places to see and recommended restaurants.

We had a great time and Tom was the best. Very knowledgeable and funny. We learned a lot about the region and tasting wine and had so many delicious tastings. Tom really took care of us. Thank you!

Amazing day. Our guide Thomas was incredibly knowledgeable and also very entertaining. This is our first trip to the Burgundy region and we tasted some exceptional wines, had a great lunch and I now FINALLY understand enough about the region and their unique rules to find a wine to our tastes on the massive wine lists that all the great restaurants have.

Thomas was not only a lot of fun but gave us a wonderful introduction into the region and its outstanding wines!

Johan was a phenomenal guide. He was intensely knowledgeable and he perfectly balanced sharing technical wine information with sharing local facts and stories. The wineries chosen were intentional and a strong variety from small family owned domaines to larger producers. Additionally, lunch was fantastic and in a quaint restaurant.

Excellent value-for-money winery experience, three authentic and unique Burgundy wineries (around 5 wines to taste at each winery) as well as a delicious, premium three-course lunch and wine. Our guide, Thom, was knowledgeable, warm, entertaining, fun and inclusive. Our guide was serious about wine. We went to three places for tasting, all v cool. Lunch was at a bustling local eatery. Multi course and delicious.

My husband and I had an incredible all day tour alongside one other couple, all professionally guided by Thomas. We were SO fortunate to have Thomas as our guide, as he is an expert on all things Burgundy wines, as well as so many fascinating regional facts and personal stories, all related with humorous good nature. We had an outstanding lunch at Le Sufflot, an area restaurant. Oh my…. By the end of the day, we felt like we’d made many new friends including the friendly and professional winery staff members, Thomas and our fellow wine travelers, Denise and Edward.

13 years since my last Gourmet Tour with Burgundy Discovery. Fantastic experience again. The format hasn’t changed much. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Excellent quality wines tasted at the 3 Domaines visited. The vineyard owners and staff were so enthusiastic explaining the wine making process. Our tour guide Dylan was exceptional. His knowledge and attention to detail is amazing. We learnt so much even though we had visited Burgundy before. The midday traditional meal at Le Globe restaurant Meursault was lovely, beautifully presented, paired with the appropriate wines chosen by the sommelier. I cannot thank Dylan and the Burgundy Discovery team enough for another wonderful fun day. If you want a real insight into Burgundy wines look no further than Burgundy Discovery.

I can’t say enough great things about this all day wine tour and the guide, Thomas. I booked it because I was traveling solo and wanted a day with some company in addition to having a knowledgeable wine guide. I lucked out on both! Thomas was incredible. He was personable and it felt like I had a long lost friend showing me around Burgundy. His personality helped make the rest of the group bond and by the end we all felt like friends. Oh, and the wine! The selections for the tastings were spectacular, aided by Thomas’s knowledge. It was a highlight of my trip! So glad I booked this.

Our vineyard tour of Burgundy wine country was A++! From the moment Dylan picked us up at our airbnb, it was first class all the way! Dylan was so knowledgeable about the area, the wines, the vineyards, the winemakers, and the history….we learned so much. Each tasting we attended was superb and the people were wonderful! It will be an excruciating wait for our wine to be shipped back to us in Alabama!!!

Thomas was an outstanding guide whose level of knowledge about Burgundy wine, the region and the small villages along the way made the tour more than we could have expected. It was amazing to be able to slowly go through the different villages and learn a bit of the history of how Burgundy became what it is today. The three wineries we went to made us feel like family and provided an immersive experience focused not on only their wines but the region as a whole. The tastings were phenomenal and gave us a real sense of the variations between plots and locations and how every bottle is slightly different. We would recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn about Burgundy beyond just tasting wine.

Good experience. Probably not worth price for three stop tour but people were nice and experience was very convenient.

Highly recommend. Full day event with a delightful lunch and visit to three different wine houses in both Beaune and Cote de Nuits Dylan, our guide, made the trip for us. He was highly knowledgeable about wine, the wine making process, and the region. His passion was evident. What we really liked about Dylan was his ability to read us. It wasn't just a full day lecture but more like a comfortable interaction and discussion with a friend. Well curated trip that we would book again.

My husband and I spent a day with Hubert touring a few wineries in Cote d'Beaune and Cote d'Nuit. It was an amazing experience. Being from the region, Hubert was so knowledgeable about the intricacies of the Burgundy wine region, and he was clearly well known and respected by the winemakers we met. His private car was clean and comfortable. We loved the restaurant that was chosen for lunch, and felt that we learned a lot and also tasted some really amazing wines throughout the process. Highly recommend!

Fantastic day in the vineyards and wineries, small and large. Steven was an excellent driver and guide who delivered just the right amount of information and introduced us to great locals.

We had a fantastic day tasting some wonderful wines on our tour. Our guide, Elsa, was an expert and aficionado, and guided us excellently; she even gave us an impromptu walking tour of Beaune and added an extra stop when we found we had time between scheduled appointments. Five stars!

Continued from previous review…Dylan’s answers were thoughtful, spontaneous and always on point. Clearly, the success of someone in Dylan’s job must depend, to a great extent, on his relationships with the personnel at the wineries he visits. It was striking, the regard and affection in which Dylan was held by the presenters of each of the three wineries visited. Our tours/tastings were relaxed and never rushed an it actually felt a little sad to leave each establishment and the presenter who we met there. Eight hours is a long time and the 15 or 16 tasting added up to a lot of wine but the day never dragged; not for a minute. Just an extraordinary experience! Thank you, Dylan Burgundy Unlimited. We will never forget this day!

Wow, I don’t know where to begin. This was such an amazing experience. As someone who regularly does wine tastings when I travel, Stephen and Burgundy Discovery exceeded all Of my expectations and set the bar even higher. Did the private tour with one of my friends and we loved every second of it. Stephen was not only an expert to the area but he customized our vineyard visits based on our palettes while still allowing us to expand our choices and knowledge. The guide Elsa was knowledgeable and a safe driver. She got to know us and nailed our taste in wine. Lovely site for lunch! There did seem to be some pressure to buy and ship wine, but most of the hosts were lovely and friendly. Elsa was quite opinionated!

Great opportunity to learn about the Bourgogne areas and wine classifications and experience tastings of a variety of wines from family vintners in the area. Elsa did a great job in learning our wine preferences throughout the day and was able to have the wineries cater our tastings to our preferences. Beautiful way to see the area!

Dylan was a fantastic guide. He added to the experience and interacted at each vineyard which enhanced the overall experience. His English was excellent, he was amusing and very friendly. He displayed an extensive knowledge of wine and Burgundy. We enjoyed each of the tastings, they were all different in style and ambience. The restaurant he booked for lunch was in a good location and served great food. Would highly recommend and would not hesitate to book him again.

Rarely has an experience been so thoroughly customized and set up to especially meet our tastes so well. Stephen really listened on our prep phone call(s) and set up an itinerary for a group of 4. Stephen and Jodi were incredibly helpful and connected in the region. Stephen made prolific notes on what each of us enjoyed and kept catering the tastings to our profiles throughout the day. He is obviously well known and respected by the wineries in the area - even when he was not with us, his name opened doors.
