Super cool experience :) I had no exceptions and was positively surprised by the talents. Can recommend :)
Firstly we didnt book dinner also, big mistake, so far back we may have well as been in the street, virtually impossible to see and at least 30 metres from the stage and crowded in like sardines so virtually no view, if you booked dinner that took up almost the whole floor with those that didnt crowded around back near door, staff never stopped talking ove the show and drinks insanely priced, show was too long and went on forever, we had been advised not to do a big tourist show and wouldn't do again
The location was extremely close to our hotel so this option allowed us to get tickets for the tango only without the dinner, as we were able to have dinner nearby beforehand. The show itself was entertaining. We were seated near the back and it appears most other customers had been there for the pre dinner beforehand. They offered drinks and small snacks for purchase in your seats if you wanted.
We booked last-minute tickets to Tango Porteño and opted for the $40 "show only" option. Here are a few tips to help you decide what to book: The Show: The live band and dancers are insanely talented. The performance itself was highly impressive and we loved it. The Venue: The theater looks massive and grand from the outside, but it's actually not all that big inside. It is very much catered to tourists. Balcony Seating (Show Only): If you just buy the show ticket, you have to sit in the narrow balcony. The view is awkward (like looking down from the front row of a movie theater), the chairs are hard wooden dining chairs, and the glass/rail barriers are distracting. You will spend the whole night leaning forward to see over the edge. Floor Seating (Dinner/Snacks): You only get a floor seat if you buy a food package. We skipped this because we heard the food isn't great and you have to sit there for a long time waiting for the show to start. Getting a Seat: Balcony seats are first-come, first-served. We got there 15 minutes before showtime and had plenty to choose from. There are cheaper tango shows around the city, but if you don't mind the awkward balcony view and just want to see some top-tier dancing in this iconic (also very touristy venue) it's still worth the visit!
We came just for the show, no dinner. Seating was good and too tight. The show turned out to be more of a vaudeville show. Pretty good dancing but many other acts. We didn’t spend much for the show so it was worth it.
The website should advise more about dress Code - besides that hubby and I had a great time ! No one helps you to your seat location .
Amazing lunchtime experience for those who can't stay up late for the evening show! The musicians and dancers were all top class. There was also a skilled group who gave a gaucho dance with boleadoras.
The band was excellent as I've noticed in every tango show in Buenos Aires. The arrangements for music were interesting and nice stage decoration, costumes and choreographies. I was waiting for a woman singer as well. The staff was very helpful and a good idea to take the whole staff to the front in the end of the show - that made a great effect!
Fun show, conveniently located across the street from our hotel in BA so we could just walk instead of relying on transportation. We opted not to partake in the dinner, but ordered some drinks. I think it's ultimately easy to get great food in BA at a better price. Recommend showing ups a bit earlier as that seemed to ensure better seats for us compared to people who arrived later.
Great show, lots of tango styles represented and decently priced. The venue was also very nice, art deco style with a great vibe.
we loved this tango show in downtown buenos aires very nearby where we were located absolutely wonderful, i would highly recommend it
This is tough, because I am a musician/artist and want to be kind, but want to leave an honest assessment. First of all, it’s a theatrical show, so if you want authentic and passionate Tango, this is NOT it. We chose to see just the show, in which case they sit you high up in the rafters, out of sight of the dinner show, where you have a very obstructed view with three rows of moveable wood chairs with a glass wall and metal bar that you can look through to “sorta” see the performance. You have to pull your chair up to the edge and lean over to be able to truly see the performance. Even worse, the speakers are blasting straight at you at dangerous levels, clocking in at 117 dB, far exceeding hearing loss levels. Thankfully I had brought ear protection. The live musicians were phenomenal and so charismatic. My humble opinion is they made the show. The dancers “went through the motion” of their choreography, but it was not at all “passionate”. Show starts with a staged scene as if it’s laundry day on the streets of Buenas Aires and just a tad cheesy. Then the curtain closes and you get a man singing a mournful tune for costume changes. Another dance. Curtain closes and just the band performing. New set and some dancing. Curtain closes and another mournful song…and so goes the show. There is a bit of the Gaucho style included which added some flair. Everyone I noticed in the rafters grew impatient trying so hard to see over the edge or just leaning back and trying to watch the 1/4 of the stage available to see through the glass barrier in defeat. Also, be aware that you CAN NOT buy a drink to watch this show if you are just attending the performance. There was a beautiful bar on the first floor…but it’s only for those who are attending the dinner show. They don’t allow you to buy a drink and carry it upstairs. Bizarre, as this would be a nice treat and chance for them to make more money, especially after putting people in obstructed seating. Only by chance, we had been to the La Boca neighborhood earlier in the day and saw live Tango in front of several restaurants, and that was far more magical and intimate. After the show I noticed multiple tour buses picking up the patrons, so it’s definitely a show for tourists. Please know, I do think everyone performing was lovely, but they are hindered from the true passion of the dance of Tango due to it being a staged show.
The location is good - just 2 mins walk to the Oblisco. It's just walking distance if live in the theatre district. The performance was good and staff are very friendly - they proactively speak English when they realize the customer are likely not Spanish speaker. In addition to the compelling dance performance, the band was also very good and made the performance into next level.
Staff was extremely rude. We were told that we will have good spots but we couldn’t see anything and were made to sit behind. The hall was overpacked with people where the point was to make money but no customer satisfaction or service. Tango artists were great and it would have been an enjoyable experience only if……😬😒
We had time for one final activity in Buenos Aires before flying home the next day, so on Sunday, November 23, we decided to attend a performance at Tango Porteño, conveniently located near our hotel in Retiro. We had passed by the venue several times during our stay and were curious to experience it for ourselves. Because it was a last-minute decision, all of the floor seats were already booked. We were seated in the balcony section, which is open seating. It is worth noting that this historic building did not appear to have elevators, so the balcony may not be accessible for guests with mobility challenges. The view from the balcony was partially obstructed, and many people were moving around or switching seats to find a better angle. One pleasant surprise was that photography and video recording were encouraged. This was a welcome change from another tango show we had attended earlier in the trip, where all photography was strictly prohibited. The performance itself was excellent. It featured a wide range of themes, with tango serving as the unifying thread throughout the different acts. The live music ensemble, made up of talented and diverse musicians, brought great energy to the show and added to the overall experience. The performance lasted about two hours, which felt just right. After the show, we hoped to browse the gift gallery for souvenirs, but unfortunately, it was closed and unattended. Instead, we stepped outside and took some beautiful photos in front of the nearby Teatro Colón, which was spectacularly illuminated at night. We then walked a couple of blocks to find a quieter spot where we could safely hail an Uber, since the area directly in front of the theater was quite congested after the show. Overall, the entertainment value for the price was outstanding. We were very satisfied with the evening and glad we made time for this experience. Next time, we will be sure to book in advance so we can enjoy the show from the main floor rather than the balcony.
A tango show not to be missed. Professional dancers and singers. Great music. Colourful costumes. Good view of stage.
A good show, but the show only seats are up high with restricted viewing and the only drink allowed in the area was water. Nice theatre.
The show was fantastic. I would highly recommend it. As others have stated, it’s not just Tango dancers but a theatrical type experience. We sat all the way in the back and still had a great view of the stage. We did not do the dinner but we had quick service for our drinks. The show goes from 10-11:15pm. Highly recommended.
The Tango show was fantastic. The performance of all the dancers, singers and musicians were amazing. Buying the ticket early from Viator made it really convenient.
Great show, the venue was very nice. The cocktails are well made. The Empanadas were tasty. My family and I enjoyed it very much. Remembering my grandmother singing the same songs of Carlos Gardel. We loved it.
We booked the Tango Porteño show on the same day and everything went smoothly from start to finish. Communication was fast and clear, and the instructions about the process were very helpful. Entry and ticket check were easy, and we were pleasantly surprised by the seating. We were in the first row right after the dinner section, with a great view of the stage. The show itself was spectacular. It showcased not only tango, but broader elements of Argentine culture. The live band was fantastic, and the malambo performance highlighting Gaucho tradition was especially impressive. We really enjoyed the show and the overall atmosphere.
It's a quick, inexpensive and convenient way to see Tango in BA and was interesting. Very busy. Very touristy However if you are looking for a more intimate captivating show, I would look elsewhere
An amazing performance to remember and cherish. Very well organized, from pick up at Hotel, amazing seating at the theatre, one has a choice of dinner, 1 drink or just the show. The Performance was outstanding, by the Music Band, the singers and the Tango Dancers. A near hour and a half of exhilarating performance. It leaves you "wow".
It’s a good show and enjoyable. All ages enjoy it. We did not try the food, but it looked good! About 2 hours long.
We had a lesson+ dinner+ show experience! And these 2 stars go to the amazing teachers and the dancers who perform in the show because they were super great! Why did I take 3 stars away? Because the people were using flashlights, blinding other guests and one woman left of us started to take...VIDEO CALL during the show. There are no usher to take these people out (as they would do in Europe) and the waiters could not care less. They see it and do nothing. This reaaaaly takes out from the experience!!
Just simply amazing. From the entrance to the area, this venue is beautiful and elegant. Centrally located! The staff was very attentive and organized. Before the show, there was a pre-show that was funny and amusing. The show itself was just phenomenal with beautiful dancers and great singers. This is my first time watching a tango show and it was just amazing and I want to watch it again. Tango Porteno lived up to its highly rated reviews. A lot of people get the dinner. We only did the show ($35 each) and ordered some drinks and empanadas. The dancer took some pictures around the table and we were lucky to have been chosen to take a picture by the walkway to the stage with the dancers. Just do it! July is not peak season and I saw many who purchased the tickets upon arrival. I bought mine through their website. Come as you are but not shorts or sandals. This is a real theater!!!
The tango dancers were amazing. Their speed is near impossible yet they make it look so easy. The music and the tenor were equally great. The food prices were outrageous so we didn’t order any, but someone nearby had and it smelled good. We weren’t expecting the photo op with the dancers, otherwise we would have come better prepared. Consequently we didn’t purchase the photos.
Show was short on dancing and only 1 hour presentation. Really disappointed in this show. Sad display. Saw this show in 2019 and was impressed with it and had high expectations for visiting again. Unfortunately this time around it had much limited dancing, overlong segments (3) with just the band playing, and singing solos.
A bit far away from the stage, and show started at 10p, 20 minutes after the stated show time. It's just waste of time.
We had a great time last night watching the dancers! We didn't have dinner, but it looked very tasty. There were 6 professional couples dancing and 3 others that used ropes during their performance. It was 1 1/2 hours and had 6 musicians in the band. I would highly recommend going to Tango Porteno to watch a cultural dance.
Highly enjoyable experience with a good variation within the show between dancing, singing and music. We were seated in decent chairs despite arriving late
Dance show started weird with. Ignore skirts and not the Argentinian tango I expected. Then the show was amazing. Staff ignored us at 1st, we had to ask 3x for a drink. Bottle of red vinegar came foe 17,0000 ars. Staff then only came again to sell us photos, 1 for 33,000 or to ask for a tip..cheek of them. Place was great. Value was good but would go to a smaller venue if I did this again
Excellent option for a night on the town. We decided to have a dinner elsewhere and just come for the show to get a tango experience. Out of our group of 4 people, two were not a big theatre/performance lovers but really appreciated it.
This was a great way to see a tango show here in BA. Took my dad. Arrived at 9:00 p.m. and got great seats behind the people eating dinner. Definitely among a lot of tourists. But, the price and duration were perfect. Show started at 10:00 p.m. and ended around 11:20. Dancing and orchestra were both incredible!
Very good show and musicians, length of performance spot on. Service for food and drinks could improve.
What an amazing night. Set in a beautiful old art-deco theatre. The show was vibrant, entertaining and enjoyable. We did show only but there is a dinner option as well. Highly recommend this experience.
The show itself is very professional. The artists are great and it is a pleasure watching their performance. However, the place is a tourist trap if you are not careful. (Foto shooting, food and drinks are offered for moon prices).
Nice show, with an amazing production. I went with my family, and we really enjoyed. We chose the option only show.
Don't worry about this show being a tourist trap. It's a spectacular way to enjoy the passionate music and incredible talents of the performers and musicians in a theatrical setting that rivals the best Las Vegas offering. WOW!
It’s just OK. The dancers are doing a great job so is the music but the choreography is not what you’d expect of a Tango show. Too much focus on Tourists
We had a great time. Great show with a good pace and a diversity of scenes which we enjoyed. The room is nice with good lighting and sound as well as a nice wine list.
This was an excellent way to see a good Tango show without having to eat there and spend an entire evening. We were given very good seats.
More of a theatrical dance show than Tango. The stage is lit very dim and therefore it is hard to appreciate the show. The dimly lit stage and difficulty in seeing the show is compounded by where you are seating. For us, the location was the main attraction, but would suggest researching to find a better Tango show than one that leans more on the theatrics. We did not have dinner as most have terrible food and service.
Excellent quality show - the dancers, singers and band were all amazing. Very good value for money too. The only downside - which is why I have not given 5 stars- is that I think photos and videoing the show should not be allowed. The number of people who were filming the whole show on their phones and taking selfies during the actual show was very distracting. Ban it - simple. Then everyone can actually enjoy the show itself!
Seats are not in front row if you dont book the dinner, but it was still good enought to watch the show, wich we did love. The menu had a very decent price.
Great dance performance with variety of dance and songs. Show only seats situated on second floor which is a top view of dancers. Doors open at 9pam to be able to get the front row seats and show starts 10pm. Dinner tables were so close to each other.
High quality & excellent value for money. Venue was impressive & the musicians & dancers even more so.
Great artists. Very good service, but having seen other tango shows in BA, hosted in smaller venues, I found the room just too big and we were sitting far from the stage
Upstairs has a blocked view. Good show. But you can't see much if you don't buy the one with dinner.
