Yessica met us after our private transfer from Santiago, pleasant and interesting walking tour of San Antonio; then to the de Areco ranch for horse and carriage ride, excellent Argentinian/Gaucho BBQ lunch, Gaucho dance and horse whispering show. We especially enjoyed Yessica getting us involved in the dancing after joining the professional performance herself. Yessica is a very friendly person and very good company!

Itinerary
At one-hour drive from Buenos Aires along the National Road “number 8” (Ruta 8), the vast plains of the Pampas make an appearance and show us their vastness. When we arrive in San Antonio de Areco, we have arrived at the centre of Gaucho culture.
For those who love culture and History, the best way to start your visit is to go and see the main square called Ruiz de Arellano, home to the parish of San Antonio de Padua. You’ll get to know the story of how the first Spanish conquistadors, importing from Europe noble materials as wood and floor tile, began to build the city around 1730.
The pub El Boliche de Bessonart opened more than 200 years ago. Its sloping frontage like the Tower of Pisa, its render of period, its uncommon roof, and its two main rooms help the pub stand the test of time.
From 1885 when it was built, up to 1966 when the town decided to buy it, the town hall, right in front of the parish, is an old colonial mansion which belonged to one of the wealthiest families in town. Today you can visit it and admire its large interior patio, its period tiles, old well and wrought-iron grids.
This museum exhibits a private collection illustrating the evolution of silversmith styles in Argentina, from the nineteenth century to the present day. In Mariano Draghi's workshop, you’ll get to see unique pieces inspired by traditional techniques.
The artisanal chocolate factory La Olla de Cobre is renowned throughout the province. People of Buenos Aires come specially to San Antonio de Areco to buy their delicious chocolates and their famous alfajores. An essential stopover for gourmets.
The Ricardo Güiraldes museum offers different perspectives on Argentina’s past, specifically in relation to the gauchos: their customs, equipment, how they earnt a living ... It also explores the life of the writer Ricardo Güiraldes’ personality.
Accompanied by your guide, you’ll head to an Estancia, located 15 minutes from town, in the middle of the Pampa plains. After a quick tour of the Estancia and a horseback ride (or carriage ride) to explore some of the 400 hectare property, you’ll be invited to enjoy a delicious asado lunch served under the shade of hundred year old trees. You’ll then have the chance to watch and admire the Estancia’s gauchos’ performance of equestrian dexterity, as well as listen to and watch traditional Argentine music and dance.

We really enjoyed getting to see the countryside and learn more about gaucho culture. Our driver, Maxi, and guide, Camilla, both were excellent.
It was a VERY long drive from Buenos Aires to Estancia and EXTREMELY bumpy the last few miles. The driver was quiet but nice. The only really great part of this excursion was our tour guide in Gaucho Town. She was a young college student raised in Gaucho Town and had lived there her entire life. She was extremely knowledgeable about the history on the beautiful little town, enlightened us to the people who live there, took us on several tours around the town center from a gorgeous church to an incredible tour of the museum teaching us about the traditions of the Gauchos like making beautiful knives that even children are taught to use properly. We were INCREDIBLY BLESSED to watch the artist create GORGEOUS charcoal drawings, sculptures, horse bridals, tall fancy coffee mugs, knives and belt buckles out of STERLING SILVER and custom made rings and necklaces all from gold and silver. This part of the tour was excellent. However, going to the farm was a different experience. We were dropped off and served an empanada while sitting in a beautiful area. However, after that we were on our own. Our tour guide didn't lead any other part of the day except to eat with us at the end. There was horseback riding but it was very disorganized and not safe at all. We just moseyed around and noticed other people getting on horses so we walked over to the area and no one offered to help us get on a horse, NO instructions given at all! There weren't helmets offered either which was a great safety concern. No one led us or guided us on the ride which was really worrisome too. We looked around at the farm and saw beautiful flowering trees and some wildlife, then there was folk dancing that had started. The music was good and the dancers were ok but not professionals dancers. Alas we thought we'd get a good meal at the end since that was the big draw of the excursion but we were wrong. Yes, we sat there forever waiting to be served but there were only a couple of servers for the entire dining area that was filed so by the time you got any food it was ALL cold! The meat was VERY tough and flavorless. However, that was the case all over Argentina. They don't season their food AT ALL......not even salt! I couldn't eat any of the food it was so bad. My husband toughed it out and waited until the last serving and he said it was a little more tender but still no flavor. I would NOT book this excursion again. However, if you can get a guided tour of Gaucho Town do it! Beautiful little town.
Despite rain, the tour was delightful! We learned so much about San Antonio de Areco and Estancia Ombu.
Punctual and friendly 8.30 pickup from the hotel and smooth drive to SF which takes about 90 minutes. Delightful guide Camilla in SF who explained about the town and gaucho culture. Interesting visits to the gaucho silversmith, leather workshop etc. Camilla came with us to the estancia which was El Ombro and featured in our guide book. She looked after us during the stages of the visit which made it very easy. The welcoming drink and empanadas were fab. Then horse ride or buggy ride to see a bit of the ranch area. Inside for the bbq meal which (surprise surprise) was very meaty. You have to be careful what you pick if bones/fat are not really your scene. But it was a bbq. Overall the estancia was a good experience but dropped a star for me based on the meat. But our guide Camila was excellent, five stars, and we had interesting conversations over lunch about life in Argentina. Super English. Another smooth drive back to BA and we were back at our hotel just after 6pm. Good driver Snr Adrian. So a very good day out from BA learning about gaucho culture. Thank you
This was the most wonderful experience! From the time our efficient, thoughtful and communicative driver, Adrian, showed up at our doorstep, we had an amazing time. Julieta, our local guide (works, lives and is a teacher in San Antonio de Areco, so was very plugged in with the history of the area, community and knew all the local artisans we visited giving us some unique access opportunities!) She was very informative and extremely responsive to our needs throughout the day, often going out of her way to make certain things happen or go more smoothly for us. She was really wonderful wirh my 6yo daughter too. I originally didn't really know if we needed/wanted the town historical portion of the tour, but in retrospect now I feel it was vital to understanding the history of the region and culture of the Gauchos and hence really enhanced the day's experience (as opposed to just showing up at the Estancia with no context). The afternoon at the Estancia itself was a dream -- my daughter was so thrilled to ride a horse and the food, cultural show (this is not just a tourist gimmick, I asked and they only have real gauchos and local artists performing), gaucho-horse handling presentation and really the entire ambience were all fantastic. It was truly a splendid day and I couldn't recommend this tour and company more highly!
A great day out seeing not only the estancia but also San Antonia Areco. Plenty to see and do. Horse riding was a bit tame but I guess they have to cater for beginners.
We were looking for an escape from the city buzz and ended up having a magical day in San Antonio de Areco. If you want to experience the true essence of the Argentine gaucho in a romantic and polished setting, this experience is a must. Highly recommended, the experience includes transportation. My wife and I had a great time.
This was a wonderful day out of the city onto a ranch. We had a private driver from the city, and even though he couldn’t speak a lot of English, he did a Translate app to talk to us, which we appreciated. Camila met us in Areco and we had the private tour around the historic area and several shops. She is a local and really understands the gaucho culture here. The driver took us along with Camila to the Estancia for a wonderful day. Lots of food, dancing, music and horseback riding. Beautiful location. Highly recommend this tour. It is a ways out from the city so there’s a one and a half to 2 Hour drive in each direction.
Overall, the experience was very good. However, the tour of the town was a little long in the heat with no option to stop for a drink. Be sure to carry water. Once on the ranch, it was great with an option for either horseback ride or carriage ride along with a good meal and lively music/dancing and horse demonstration!
We did this trip on our last day in Argentina. Our driver picked us up at the hotel and took us to San Antonio de Areco where we met our guide. She was so sincere in her love for Argentina and for the gaucho lifestyle - it was really endearing and made the experience so much better. We came away understanding the gaucho culture so much more than we thought we would. The town is just lovely and the Estancia Ranch offered trail rides and carriage rides as well as a lunch with more food than anyone could eat. The dancing and horse show were also very interesting. I was afraid it would be cheesy but really enjoyed our day.
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Bueno’s Aires. Veronica, our tour operator, was incredible. So warm, informative and wonderful energy. We had an amazing time exploring San Antonio as well as the gaucho history and experience with the people, food, horses and culture. I would highly recommend.
This excursion was one of the highlights of our trip. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys horses, nature and beautiful countryside. And if you are fortunate enough to receive Facundo as your guide then your day will be perfect!
Absolutely awesome experience! Communication with Sarah was very easy and always had timely replies. Our driver Adrian doesn’t speak much English but we could communicate via a translation app he has on his phone. Punctuality was excellent, he was waiting for us already when we headed down to lobby 5min before departure time. Camilla our guide was a super star! Super knowledgeable and very easy to talk to, she’s clearly has a passion about presenting Gaucho culture to guests. San Antonio is such a cute little town but with so much history as well. All the Gaucho shops were super cool and Camilla explained everything so well. The chocolate shop in the end was an absolute hidden gem!!! Everything was so tasty, but especially the dulce de leche, chocolate coated orange and Alfajores. So good. They won the best Alfaiores in 2025 - I can totally see why. The ranch we went to is quite nice too. There were a few groups visiting on the same day as well, but everything was organised and we didn’t feel rushed or crowded. And so much food!! Everything tasted good. Salad was so fresh. I would have given 6 stars if I could!
Facundo enjoys his job and takes great passion in the way he presents himself. The food portions are ginormous
This Argentina Gaucho Tour was absolutely amazing!! Our private tour guide Jessica was wonderful and very informative. Her pride in her heritage shined throughout the experience. The Gauchos, activities, and performances were traditional and outstanding. The horseback riding into the fields was very nice. And by all means, the food and drinks were excellent and plentiful. Our driver, Santiago was very prompt, respectful, and kind. On our way back to our hotel, he even took us on an additional tour of the shoreline of Buenos Aires. An overall most excellent experience with memories to last a lifetime!! :)
No trip to Buenos Aires would be complete without a visit to a gaucho estancia. A private car ride to the historic town of San Antonio de Areco is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the gaucho story and visit many of the museums and traditional shops. Then onto the estancia where you will be treated to delicious empanadas and a huge array of barbecue delights. Take a carriage ride or ride a horse around the estancia, play with all the ranch dogs, tour the buildings and then enjoy a gaucho and horse show. Before leaving there was a musical performance, singing, and dancing. And yes, you will dance!
Such a fun day! Our Guide Fauco and our driver Santiago were terrific! The city tour was perfect. Informative and some fun extras bringing us to a silver museum and a chocolate shop. The ranch was beautiful! Relaxing and a fabulous lunch! Great option to get into the countryside!
Thank you very much for a wonderful trip and unforgettable impressions that will stay with us for a very long time. Everything was professionally organized and tailored to our needs. Thank you very much.
Gaucho Day – This was a horse girl’s dream come true! Jessica was a wonderful guide, introducing us to the quaint and beautiful town of San Antonio De Areco – a respite from busy Buenos Aires. The gaucho experience was my favorite. The estancia is beautiful, the lunch was phenomenal (we didn’t eat dinner that night), and riding horses plus seeing the gaucho magic was a breathtaking experience. Big perk is the private driver, ensuring we got back to our hotel when we needed to for flights. You visit several local shops (I found the coolest salt and pepper shakers made out of bone!) but you are never ever pressured to purchase anything. I have to say - I wish the shops had kiosks at the estancia because after experiencing the gaucho life I wanted to buy some of the things I’d seen earlier in the day. A really fun day - you see an entirely different part of Argentina.
Pablo was my private guide for a wonderful day visiting a gaucho ranch for the day. So much fun and saw so much today. Well worth spending the day doing this tour
An interesting tour with two distinct parts: you begin with a tour of the small, but historically important town of San Antonio de Areco, which is very tied to gaucho culture. You then travel to an estancia, where you eat, drink, ride horses, listen to the gauchos sing and dance, and eat some more. The asado is delicious, but there’s so much more food than you could possibly eat. We learned a lot with Yessica, who was a great guide, and we ate entirely too much!
Our private tour was amazing! My 10 year old son gets car sick so buses that stop and go are not a good idea. This is the main reason we booked a private tour. The minivan they sent to pick us up was great. Clean, on time and the driver, Miguel, was excellent. He didn't tailgate or come to frequent sudden stops, which is something we experienced with basically every other Uber/taxi driver in our trip. Our guide, Yessica, was great. We did a tour of the town for about 90 minutes before heading to the estancia. The horse back ride at the ranch was fun and the food was amazing. Once at the estancia you are free to roam around, play with the many dogs, look at the horses, and even jump in a pool if you bring a bathing suit (we didn't). My 10 year old fell in love with the horses and the dogs and didn't want to leave. Overall a great day trip from Buenos Aires!
Jose picked us up from our hotel in Buenos Aires and we had an great trip to San Antonio de Areco and Estancia. Jose was very knowledgeable about the area. While not a lot of sites in Areco, we enjoyed what we saw, particularly the silversmith shop. The Estancia was beautiful and it was nice to be back on a very gentle horse after many years. The food was very good; don't overdue the empanadas as there is a lot of meat coming up!
Amazing experience. Camilla our guide was incredible. She is local and truly remarkable. Very good English and information. I hope everyone experiences her warmth and charm. The ranch was amazing, we rode horses, had great food and drinks and enjoyed a Gaucho show. Would highly recommend. Request Camilla. She is a star 🌟
Quite an authentic experience with great food, beautifull landscapes and tons of fun. Our guide was the best !
Everything went as planned from pick up to touring San Antonio de Areco to the full estancia experience. We had a lovely local tour guide whose knowledge and warm and joyful personality enhanced our tour. If we could improve the tour, we would have a little more time to explore the streets and shops of the town.
We were picked up and Javier our driver was friendly and safe. We were met in San Antonio by Julieta our guide and she was so warm and knowledgeable. Just walking around learning from her about the history of San Antonio would have been worth the money. She is really brilliant. The visits to the museums/shops provided a chance to met local artisans and see some stunning hand work. The set up at the ranch runs like clockwork and the hospitality is so generous. We chose to do the horse ride which is short and relaxing, perfect for the non-rider. The food was delicious, the music and dancing fun and the horse whispering quite moving. Meeting an 86 year old gaucho still flirting was treat. Just a wonderful day. An honorable mention also goes to all the cute dogs.
Well paced with excellent English speaking guide. The food was plentiful, authentic and delicious. An essential experience when visiting Buenos Aires.
Wow! A great day to learn about the history of San Antonio de Areco and to experience true gaucho hospitality and culture. The horse back riding, the Musi, the dancing and the food are all unforgettable experiences.
Once in a lifetime experience! Cannot recommend this more highly! The day and tour was just wonderful. Everything was as described.
Yessica, the tour guide was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. She made the tour enjoyable. The estancia was nice and the asado was excellent.
It was a great day out. We were collected in Buenos Aires exactly on time by our driver and taken to the town of San Antonio de Areco where our guide Veronica was waiting for us. She was excellent, spoke perfect English. She was friendly, informative, knowledgeable and wanted to make sure we had a great experience. She took us around the town and then we went to the Estancia about 15 mins away. It was a beautiful place. We went horse-riding and had the best Empanadas on arrival. We chatted with Veronica over lunch, which was an amazing BBQ. She was very interactive and we discussed a lot of topics around Gauchos and Argentina generally. We were then taken back to our house in BA by the driver. An incredible day out, very well organised and an amazing experience from all with Veronica really making it a special day.
We had a great time with Facundo. He did an excellent job taking us around the town and explains us in detail about the town, the natives and the gauchos.Went for horseback riding to dancing with the locals. He took care of our food as we are vegetarian. We had an amazing time with him.
Julietta is a wonderful guide, we travel extensively and she is one of our best guides yet! She is so knowledgeable and personable. From the horseback riding, town tour, BBQ lunch and horse whispering both Juliettaand the tour was outstanding.
Our guide that day was Facundo Del Bianco. We enjoyed his company immensely and the trip to the estancia was delightful! The gauchos, the live music, the dancers, the horses and their trainers, and the yummy Empanadas were all top-notch. Facundo will take you to his own hometown on the way - a charming and beautiful place full of architectural history and delicious food (get yourself a “half-moon” pastry!). We’re very glad we got to experience such an interesting day in our South American travels👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely Fabulous. A must do. We were escorted by Yessica. A superb guide. Highly professional. Knew everything about the town. Lives in San Antonio de Areco, loves San Antonio de Areco. The Gaucho’s are amazing people. So friendly and inviting. The horsemanship - awe inspiring. Don’t miss it.
This was an excellent, unforgettable and delicious experience. From touring SA de Arreco to horsebacking riding, a STELLAR Asado and folkloric show -its a bit like a capsule of rural Argentina and the gaucho life. Two thumbs up!!
The tour of San Antonio de Areco was very good and interesting. The food at the Estancia was excellent but that was about it. There was a very small horseback ride or carriage ride, about 10 minutes and about a 5 minute dance demonstration. Included was a 5 minute presentation by a horse whisperer. The lunch was about a 2 1/2 hour affair. No gaucho skills presentation. Overall pretty disappointing since we had been on a similar tour a few years ago. I would not repeat this tour.
We got picked up in the hotel and the tour experience was as pleasant. We had three people and with the driver and tour guide, it was a little tight at one point in a sedan car. Otherwise, the lunch was delicious, the horse back riding was fun, and the singing and horse whisperer show were entertaining. The town is cute. The ride from the town to the ranch is a was a little bumpy because the road was unpaved. Facundo was informative, personable, and accommodating. Overall, it was a nice experience outside the city.
It was lovely to walk around town and enjoy the peaceful streets and to see the the incredible work of the local artisans. The chocolate shop is worth a visit too. The atmosphere at the estancia is very relaxed and welcoming. We were able to sit in the shade of a tree and enjoy our drinks. The food was amazing and plentiful. We also enjoyed the post lunch singing, dancing and show of horsemanship. It was a great day out.
Great tour. Picked up at hotel/ Went to San Antonio de Areco. Toured the town and the historic places. Went to Estancia. Had a snack . Horse back riding, had lunch, short tango show and a display by a gaucho. All in all a fun day.
We had a great day visiting San Antonio de Areco with our local guide Facundo del Bianco. He showed us around the pretty town — taking us to the cathedral, a fabulous silver museum and workshop, and a great little restaurant — before we had a tour of a nearby ranch. There, we learned about farming practices in the Pampas region, which was very interesting. Facundo is a friendly and knowledgeable guide and made our day go very smoothly. We highly recommend him.
My family had a wonderful time exploring San Antonio de Areco with Laura, who was so knowledgeable and funny! She knew everyone in town and shared facts and anecdotes that interested me, my husband (a history buff) and our 10-year-old son! Then the highlight was the visit to the estancia. We loved the horseback ride, the food was delicious (and endless!) and live music and dancing topped off the day! Beautiful part of the region and a must do to see the pampas!
Wonderful experience from start to finish! Would highly recommend to anyone who asks. The horseback riding before lunch was fantastic. Our tour guide Veronica was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and great with our 6 year old daughter. What an amazing day!
Myself and 2 friends did this experience and had an amazing time! I’d highly recommend this experience for anyone staying in Buenos Aires who wants to see a more traditional side of Argentine culture and also get out of the city for a day - the atmosphere out there is very peaceful! It was really cool to visit the town of San Antonio de Areco and also the estancia, this experience involved many different scenes - silver scene, chocolate scene, horse riding/whispering, food and music/dancing, as well as private chauffeur there and back. Our guide Facundo was excellent, he was easy to get on with and had the answers for every question we asked. Also worth mentioning I was walking on crutches when I did this experience but they were very accommodating, letting me go at my own pace and giving me a carriage tour of the ranch.
It was magical. The trip to the Estancia can be described no other way. The food was so good, the staff were amazing, and the horses were awesome. Our gaucho was Brian and his connection and love for the horses was apparent in every touch. Our tour guide was so open, and shared so much more than the history of this area. We really enjoyed her company. San Antonio de Areco was such a quaint little town. The Silvery Museum was absolutely beautiful in the craftsmanship. The chocolate shop was to to die for--so GOOD. Overall an amazing day.
My girlfriend and I had a fantastic experience touring San Antonio de Areco and visiting the estancia! Our guide, Facundo, was exceptional, offering insights into the local culture and daily life both in the town and on the estancia. The professionalism of our driver also made the journey to and from Buenos Aires smooth and enjoyable. We highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling to Buenos Aires!
Three of us took the tour. The entire tour was fun, educational and the Asado was fantastic. I would highly recommend this tour. The value of it being a private tour was well worth the cost. Julieta was a very good guide. And the banter was fun. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Our day in San Antonio de Areco and at the estancia was our favorite day of our entire two-week trip. The drive was very comfortable and well worth the time. Julietta was an excellent guide and you could tell that she has very strong relationships with the family and Gaucos at El Ombu. We learned so much about the full Gaucho culture, had a wonderful meal, and thoroughly enjoyed this day. Thank you!
