Howard Neil Crowston came highly recommended, and he absolutely lived up to it. After arriving by cruise ship, he gave us an excellent guided tour of Buenos Aires—informative, engaging, and perfectly paced. We were so impressed that we immediately asked if he was available for another tour a few days later to the Tigre Delta. Once again, it was an outstanding experience. Howard is knowledgeable, professional, and a genuinely great guide. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone visiting Buenos Aires.

Howard was absolutely amazing! He has lived in BA for over 2 decades and knows everything about the city. There won’t be a question you can ask about the city he won’t know. Tour was great. Hit all the highlights of the city so at the end you have a feel that you have ‘seen it all’. On top of that, Howard does a great job of learning little bits about you to make the tour more personal and enjoyable. Can’t praise him enough
This is our first trip to Argentina and Buenos Aires. Sometimes when you walk off the plane your first experience sets the tone for the rest of your trip. In all our travels the magic began when we met Howard Neil Crowston. From the moment we met him we knew had the #1 tour guide in all the region. He was generous with his time, knowledgeable about the city (and beyond) and we literally learned so much even before we checked into our hotel. His detailed descriptions of the city, his knowledge of the famous cemetery/landmarks/city history/museums and his willingness to accommodate our needs is really exceptional. We even hired him for a tour yesterday and today! I can’t imagine anyone who’s better than Howard and we’ve had some amazing personal tours in our around the world.
This review is both for the company BATAXIS and the guide that we had, Howard. We had been on a cruise that arrived back in Buenos Aires, Argentina in January 2025. We were to arrive in early morning, and our flight was scheduled overnight. We had many hours to use up but also had to worry about handling our luggage. The cruise company offered some options that were expensive and still would leave us for many hours at the airport. We did some online research at the last minute and wrote to this company just two days before arrival, and they wrote back immediately (although it was a Sunday afternoon just before their closing time). Howard was waiting for us with a sign when we arrived. We had already done a few things in the city pre-cruise, so at our request he planned our day to visit sites we had not yet seen. We had a wonderful time with him, first cruising along the Tigre Delta, then visiting Palermo rose garden, then stopping for some famous ice cream. He was extra generous with his time, and he was a delightful companion. It was a wonderful experience!
Fantastic in depth city tour with Howard an old friend from Nottingham he speaks Spanish which certainly helps! He is also knowledgeable about the City and its history and goes to places off the beaten track all in all a brilliant day and catch up can't recommend Howard enough 👍
If anyone is looking for a fantastic English Guide I can highly recommend Howard Crowston We have just returned from a perfect whistle stop tour of BA. We only had 36 hours so needed a general over view. Howard tailor made our tour to cover all the must see sights and was able to adapt the itinerary as we went. We had missed our Asado eve due to flight delays. No worries, Howard swept us up & provided the perfect ‘pit stop’ for lunch. We sat at gingham clothed tables, in dappled sun & enjoyed a fabulous Asado. It is helpful that Howard is bi-lingual & can assist should you need to buy or barter! All round great day with a great guy. Highly recommend
Highly recommend Buenos Aires Taxis. Clara was extremely accommodating in adjusting to our changing requests. Howard who is British by birth but loves Buenos Aires is a great tour guide. In addition to taking us where we requested, he showed us a few hidden gems we were not aware of. If you need a guide in BA, seek them out, you will be happy you did.
As first timers in Buenos Aires we chose to do the private city tour to get an overview and hit the highlights - so that we would know better how to spend our time over the next few days. What a great decision it turned out to be! The booking was arranged effortlessly on WhatsApp. Howard turned up on schedule at our hotel and proceeded to provide the most comprehensive, informative, entertaining and relevant introduction to the city that we could have hoped for. We covered a lot of ground, were lavished with loads of information - yet it never felt at all rushed. Along the way Howard offered many insights and personal tips and observations that we simply wouldn't have gotten on any other tour. We got to understand the layout of the city, see many highlights and also learned a lot about life in Buenos Aires and Argentina generally. All the way Howard was subtly sensitive to our interests and accommodated our requirements with grace and kindness. We had done some research on the city beforehand and so for us the tour was a wonderful way to orientate ourselves and put perspective on what we had read. But this tour would work equally well for someone who has no knowledge of all about BA. Really, if you're a first-timer, do yourself a favour and book this tour! (And if you're not, try one of the more in-depth tours offered on specific topics/areas.) Undoubtedly one of the best experiences we had all holiday.
Our guide Howard, although he was British, was very knowledgeable and informative. He guided us through the city and provided valuable information. He was also very accommodating to our needs.
Howard was amazing and full of information. Favorite place to see was mausoleums. Loved the cultural area of LA Ricotta. Rose gardens were spectacular.
Wow, you want to see Buenos Aires in a few hours? Howard is your man. totally informative, extremely knowledgeable, and a joy to be with. Picked us up from the airport after our overnight flight from the UK, with good communication and took us to our hotel in the city with a mini tour on the way. Then the next day we had a four hour comprehensive tour of the city including all the main attractions, both the incredible architecture in the cemetery where he seemed to know the history of each family tomb, and the Casa Rosada, and rose garden, we finished with the Caminito, an historical neighbourhood full of historical art and culture. Thoroughly recommended.
They did not show up to pick us up and did not respond to messages. In all fairness, I’m not sure Viator should have booked this at the last minute.
VERY DISAPPOINTING. Our "tour" was not even remotely as advertised. We were 2 couples who booked a private tour and chose this company as their advertised itinerary was very comprehensive and covered all the areas and attractions we wanted to see. Of the 10 places we were meant to see, we saw 3 only!! It was a very small vehicle, certainly inadequate for the four of us and the driver. Sitting in the middle on the rear seat meant I got to see very little. All day the driver had huge problems finding parking places which wasted a lot of time. At the first stop following a brief talk by the tour guide, we were left to wander around a park by ourselves as he had to move the car. The next stop (not mentioned on the itinerary) was the same - he told us a little about the building and then left us to go and find parking. Our third and last stop was the Cemetery. We were dropped off a considerable distance from the Entrance and told to walk the rest of the way while he looked for parking. The visit to the cemetery was very interesting but we were there a very long time. After we exited we were instructed by the guide to walk to a shopping mall nearby and wait for him. It was almost 45 minutes before he picked us up. We were then driven around the area where a lot of foreign embassies are located and then returned to our hotel. This "tour" was appalling considering we paid almost $800. I followed up with the wholesaler to request a refund but the company declined. They did not even acknowledge the complaint nor offer an explanation or apology
Excellent private tour. Our guide Howard was incredibly knowledgable and gave us a fantastic day in Buenos Aires. We learnt about history, art, culture and much more. We are well traveled and have high standards, and we were very happy with our tour guide - he was great. Time and money well invested.
This if the way to go when you have unlimited time in Buenos Aires a private tour. Our guide was Harold and he has lived here for over 10 year. He picked us up at the EZE airport ( additional fee of course). We went to all of our bucket list places and at our own pace and didn’t have to wait for other people to catch up.
Wonderful tour with Howard. He is very knowledgeable and personable. He knows everyone at every site we went to. Would love to tour with him again if we are ever back in Buenos Aires. Very entertaining.
Our visit to the Buenos Aires Rose Garden just for its sheer beauty. Our tour guide Duhas (sic) was extremely personal and engaging as we discussed the similarities and differences of our cultures over the course of the day.
Dusan was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Howard was one of the best tour guides we’d ever worked with. He knew people at every stop along the way. Very much worth the cost and time invested. Would recommend Howard to anyone, any time.
Howard was a great tour guide. He clearly enjoys living in the city and showing it off to tourists. We would recommend this tour to anyone.
Knowledgeable and friendly driver. Was able to take us places that weee not on the agenda and was helpful finding a coffee and Lunch
Our guide Howard (British-born but long time resident) was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Tour was very professionally organized. An excellent way to see and learn a lot about Buenos Aires in a short amount of time.
This was a fantastic way to not only see quite a lot of Buenos Aires but to learn about the history, culture and what it’s like to be a local in Argentina. Our guide Howard was nothing short of brilliant! He knew the city inside out and was filled with loads of interesting stories and facts. We loved the pace of the tour and also Howard’s generosity in sharing what it’s like for him. I just loved the mausoleum and could have stayed there to wonder around for hours. This really is the best way to see a city as vibrant as Buenos Aires!
Fantastic introduction to Buenos Aires! It was our first visit to the city and Howard introduced us to some truly unique and wonderful features of the city. The Rose Garden, street tango dancers, Recoleta Cemetery and the La Boca neighborhood were beautiful. The tour around Recoleta Cemetery and would have been a wasted trip without the context and anecdotes Howard shares about the history and culture and famous people in the cemetery. I highly recommend this tour!
Excellent private tour of city. Our guide, Howard, was very experienced and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour very much!
Fantastic Private tour catered to your interests. Dusan was knowledgeable, took me where I wanted to go and gave a fantastic overview of the history, culture and language. His English was perfect. I highly recommend this tour to anyone.
The cemetery. The stories were fascinating. Our guide Howard did a great job.he knew the history of the memorials which were fascinating.
This tour was great. We managed to see a lot of Buenos Aires. The tour guide was excellent and we used a ride
We had an amazing, warm, friendly historian Howard neil crowston grew up in london and has lived in BA for almost 20 years His breathe of knowledge and delivery was fun and educational
Our tour guide, Dusan, was so accommodating. When we wanted to walk, we walked. When we wanted to drive we drove. Ensured our points of interest were seen. Enjoyed every minute. Highly recommend.
Howard have a good tour and was very knowledgeable of the country. Enjoyed La Boca no the cemetery tour.
Our tour guide was the best ever he was a Brit living in Argentina he knew all the history, all the sites and all the great places to eat!!!
Howard picked us up from our hotel and we were happily surprised to find out that he is a native speaker English!!! He is knowledgeable, friendly, polite and we couldn’t have asked for more!!! It’s was an absolutely fabulous tour!!!!
Five stars for sure! Howard is a consummate professional - punctual, knowledgeable, anticipates potential hiccups, and very responsive to our interests. A terrific day of site-seeing in BA and learning about the area and his tips and recommendations were essential in helping us make the most of our remaining time in the city.
Howard was wonderful and accommodating to my needs. He was very knowledgeable of the area and if Argentina. You could hear his passion for the city. He offers many other tours as well and highly recommend him.
Howard picked us up right on time and off we went. Lovely day of site seeing, history and information. You can’t go wrong picking this tour and asking for Howard. He was very knowledgeable in the areas we went. When we got tired, we stopped for lunch at a local spot. The day flew by.
Howard was a great guide. We had only a couple hours between flights and he showed us the nightlights of the beautiful city ans managed to get us to the airport at just the right time. Be sure to see the rose garden and cemetary. Asks for Howard!
Our guide was Howard Crowston, originally from England but has lived in Argentina for 17 years. He is completely conversant in English and Spanish. Originally, we signed up for a driving tour of Buenos Aires since our plan was to arrive in the morning, spend one night, and depart the next day to catch our Antarctica cruise. The day we arrived, the cruise company announced that the cruise was going to be cancelled due to crew members testing positive for COVID, but we would get a full refund, and the cruise company would cover our hotel stay and hotel meals for 7 nights. We opted to stay and see more of Buenos Aires. Howard made a huge difference our enjoyable stay! He picked us up at the airport and returned us to the airport at the end. Besides providing a superb city tour as contracted for through Viator, he took us to other locations on another day to allow us to get a better sense of Buenos Aires. He was vital in helping us get COVID PCR tests for our return flight since the cruise operator, who was originally going to provide these tests our last day on the ship, was leaving it to each traveler to figure out how to get this test done in Buenos Aires. Howard is super pleasant, outgoing, and caring. We learned about him meeting his wife, his relocation from England to Argentina, his two children, his work activities, his tennis and other fun activities, and more. Simply outstanding! Be sure to ask for Howard.
Howard waited patiently for my wife and me at the airport even though there was a very long delay in passport control. He gave us an insider's perspective of the BA history, culture, and cuisine. In addition to all the must-see highlights (walking tours of Recoleta Cemetary and la Boca, monuments/statues), he showed us the memorial park dedicated to Argentina's "The Disappeared", a very moving experience. When I told Howard I collected Hard Rock T-shirts, he drove us to the store, helped me buy the right shirt, and even took photos of me in front of the store! My wife and I loved walking along la Boca, where Howard seemed to know many of the vendors, as he introduced us to them. Howard showed us a nearby place for lunch, where we had parilladas, an awesome BBQ meat-lovers meal. Howard toured with us the the entire day, dropping us off at our hotel. Thank you for a wonderful day in BA!
Howard gave my wife and I the best 1 day tour of BA. He picked us up at the airport, and showed us his personal perspective of BA. Howard was very knowledgeable about the history, culture, and cuisine. In addition to the all the tourist highlights, we visited the monument to Argentina's "The Disappeared", a very moving experience not normally visited by tourists. When I mentioned that I collect Hard Rock T-shirts, Howard drove to the Hard Rock store, helped me buy a shirt, and took pictures of me in front of the store! He showed us a great lunch place near La Boca where we had parilladas, a BBQ meat lovers feast! If you want to see the real BA, look no further to Howard and John's Private City tour! Thanks Howard!
We had a wonderful tour of the highlights of Buenos Aires. John made the tour very interesting and we learned so much about the history of the country. We were so happy to get an engaging tour guide!
John was an excellent guide. He shared his vast knowledge of the city and country’s history while taking us to interesting sites.
Tour was very good. Driver was well informed on history, the economy, and all about Buenos Aires and the country. We did a 4 hour tour. Driver met us at the Cruise Terminal and was a bit early too. Would highly recommend him.
This gentleman knows about history, politics , culture, has a perfect English , knows his way around the city. We had an amazing tour of Buenos Aires .
Such an informative and full day, we learned so much about Buenos Aires as a really beautiful city, the Paris of South America- but more so, about its history and its recent dark past. Very highly recommended!!
I booked the this excursion to fill the day we got off the cruise ship and checked into our hotel. It was well worth the time, our Tour guide, John was great. He gave us a wonderful tour of his city, the British accent is deceptive, he knows Argentina and in particular Buenos Aires. We visited all of the “must sees” and knew the ones we would return to visit more. A delightful introduction to a beautiful city.
My husband and I booked John for a private tour of Buenos Aries mainly to kill the time between getting off our ship in the morning and our late evening flight. John was there waiting for us when we passed through the port and off we went. We spent an interesting day with John and never once felt like we were just killing time. Besides seeing all the sights, we came away with a good understanding of Argentina's and BA's sometimes sad history. The day was a nice mix of history and sightseeing, with a lovely stop for lunch in Boca. Our only disappointment was that the Rose Garden was closed due to flooding so we had to skip this part of our itinerary. But you can't control the weather so we made do. Thanks, John, for the fun day and all the history!
The tour was just perfect! John was our guide. He was very knowledgeable about Argentina and its history. We were extremely pleased that we learned so much and saw so much of Buenos Aires. John had a great sense of humor and patiently answered our questions. He is an excellent tour guide. What we saw and learned from him made us love Buenos Aires even more!
We would recommend this tour to anyone with a short time to spend in Buenos Aires or with an interest in a particular aspect of the history of the city and the country. Starting with an outline of the European settlement of the city on our way to visiting the memorial park to confront the horrors of the "dirty war" and its consequences which while not a happy experience provides visitors a basis of understanding of the forces which have formed the current Argentina. Having an english speaking guide, who lives locally and knows his adopted city so well was great. Recoleta Cemetery (far more interesting than we anticipated - despite a very hot/muggy day) and La Boca were also visited, and at the latter we had delicious lunch as a restaurant recommended by the guide which we would never have found by ourselves, and which was a highlight, While you can't see everything in one day, descriptions of the various buildings and areas while moving from one location to another was good and the traffic and streetscape themselves are interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and able to answer questions and expand on all the things we saw. He was able to provide lots of additional detail at the various sites.
Our tour guide waited patiently for us to clear Customs - a very long queue. Once we were thru Customs, we were off on a great tour of the City. The Park of Memories was especially touching - history from the 70’s and 80’s that many would like to forget. That said, it’s very important to remember the ‘disappeared’ and to ensure history is never repeated. Overall a great overview of the City with a personable and knowledgeable guide.
