This was my first visit to Buenos Aires. Everyone talked about drinking Mate. I was curious and wanted to learn about the drink and custom. I learned the history, components, and proper preparation of this drink. It was an informative and enjoyable experience, and I highly recommend.

We had the most beautiful mate experience at Betty and Marcelo’s in Buenos Aires – truly something special. The experience is run by their daughter Veronica, and you can immediately feel how much heart she puts into it. She explains everything in such a warm, engaging way, from the history and cultural importance of mate in Argentina to the small rituals and social traditions around sharing it. What I loved most is that she doesn’t just talk about it, she really teaches you how to prepare mate properly. From choosing the yerba to filling the mate correctly and placing the straw, she walks you through every step with patience and passion. You leave not only having tasted mate, but actually understanding it. It’s the perfect experience before the asado, intimate, authentic, and incredibly welcoming. It feels like being invited into someone’s home to learn a meaningful tradition. Highly, highly recommend this to anyone wanting a genuine cultural experience in Buenos Aires!
This was a great introduction to the culture and process of mate drinking in Argentina, with information about other countries as well. Each guest gets to prepare and sample their own cup of mate, and a sweet treat is also provided to offset the bitterness of the mate. Veronica gave advice about purchasing mate, cups and straws, and discussed how Argentinians consume mate at home, at work, and at leisure. She is super personable and helpful. I highly recommend this experience, and if you want to also experience asado, they offer that as well—you can book both experiences for the same day, the mate is at 6 and asado at 7.

We absolutely loved the tea experience before dinner at Betty and Marcelo’s. Veronica (who hosted the tea) is very knowledgeable and lovely with excellent English (and of course Spanish). We learned many traditions and enjoyed different ways of tea. I highly recommend adding this on to your meal! (I couldn't recommend the meal more—the best meat I have had, and it feels you are at home with friends and family).

This Yerba mate experience is incredible! We learned so much about making mate and the history of it, all while having a wonderful time.
We loved learning about and tasting mate! Veronica explained every step of the preparation and customs for enjoying and sharing mate as we sat in a circle making new friends. It was wonderful to learn about the cultural importance of mate and we enjoyed the drink. This is a unique experience in learning how the locals do it, because as Veronica explained, mate is meant to be shared and enjoyed with friends slowly over time and as a result it is really not offered out in cafes. Locals will enjoy mate at home, at work, or with friends in the park (this is why you will see most locals carrying their own thermos around) but travelers won’t find it prepared unless you join Veronica here! It was the perfect beginning to our amazing evening capped off with an incredible Asado feast with Betty and Marcelo at the same location, hosted by the same local family. Highly recommend both the mate experience and the Asado!

It was honestly one of the best experiences in Argentina. They were so friendly and it was so welcoming! And when I say that it was the best steak I've had in my life, I am not lying. Dead serious.
