This walking tour exceeded my expectations, and Tracy was a huge part of that! She quickly connected with us and brought the city to life, weaving its history into what we were seeing and how it shapes Buenos Aires today. Her passion for tango was a particular treat. I had no idea there were so many nuances! Tracy never rushed us and tailored the experience wherever she could. We feel very fortunate to have been paired with such a wonderful ambassador for the city. Booking was easy, the logistics were smooth, and walking was a great way to explore. Highly recommend!

Itinerary
Discover a book lover's paradise in this converted 1919 theater. Frequently ranked as the most beautiful bookstore in the world, El Ateneo Grand Splendid features breathtaking ceiling frescoes, original theater boxes converted into reading nooks, and a café situated on the former stage, where we meet for an introductory chat over coffee before getting started on our walk. It is a must-visit landmark that perfectly captures the "Paris of the South" elegance of Buenos Aires.
Witness the architectural grandeur of Barrio Norte. We'll marvel at the Palacio de Aguas Corrientes, a "water palace" disguised in 300,000 terracotta tiles, and the French-style Palacio Pizzurno. These majestic buildings perfectly illustrate the city’s golden age of opulence.
Admire the imposing Law Faculty building and the iconic, metallic Floralis Genérica sculpture before diving into Recoleta’s "Parisian" elegance. We’ll visit vibrant Plaza Francia, the historic Basílica del Pilar church, and the legendary Gomero tree, plus take a peak at the grandiose Avenida Alvear.
The highlight of our tours for many: Explore this world-renowned "City of the Dead," famous for its stunning architecture and fascinating history. Over 45–60 minutes, we’ll navigate the marble-lined walkways to visit the tomb of Eva Perón and hear the captivating, often macabre, stories of the legends buried within these grand walls. There really is nowhere else on the planet quite like it. We cover the $16-20 USD per person cost of admission for you!
Walk through Tribunales, the city’s judicial and cultural hub. We’ll admire the exterior of the world-class Teatro Colón, the imposing Supreme Court, and the stunning Mirador Massué. It’s a masterclass in varied architecture, from neoclassical power to Art Nouveau elegance.
Enjoy a quintessential local lunch. On weekdays, we dine at El Patio, tucked inside the serene courtyard of the historic Convento San Ramón Nonato. On weekends, we’ll visit a local favorite for authentic Argentine pizza or world-class empanadas.
Dive into the city’s bustling core. We’ll navigate Avenida Corrientes, "the street that never sleeps", have a photo op at the iconic Obelisk and Green BA sign, cross Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world, and pass by the beautifully restored Confiteria Ideal for a taste of Belle Époque splendor.
Stand at the epicenter of Argentine history, politics, culture, religion and economy. We’ll discuss the legends of Evita, the Mothers of the Plaza, and landmarks like the Casa Rosada, Metopolitan Cathedral, and the Cabildo. This is where the nation's most dramatic stories unfold, from colonial revolution to modern-day celebrations. Military coups, massive protests, financial crises, independence heroes, Peron, Evita, Maradona, the Pope and more... Plaza de Mayo hides story after story and cannot be fully appreciated without a knowledgeable guide.
Immerse yourself in the cobblestone charm of Buenos Aires’ oldest barrio. Once the aristocratic heart of the city, San Telmo is now a bohemian treasure trove of antiques, tango, and historic architecture. We’ll explore its colonial soul and vibrant market atmosphere.

We spent a full day exploring Buenos Aires on a private tour with Tracy Stafford, and by the time we were finished, we had logged more than 19,000 steps, enjoying every one of them! Tracy was a wonderful guide: knowledgeable, engaging, easygoing, and genuinely fun to spend the day with. We learned a lot about the city - its history, neighborhoods, architecture and culture. It really felt like we were exploring BA with an old friend. She also has an interesting story of her own. Originally from Canada, she moved to Argentina because of her love of tango, which she dances competitively. When she isn’t leading tours, she also teaches yoga and Pilates. After spending a day walking the city with her, it’s easy to see why she chose to make BA her home. If you enjoy walking, learning, and really getting to know a place rather than simply checking off major sights, we highly recommend spending a day with Tracy. Five stars, and 19,000+ very worthwhile steps!
What an amazing day I had with Tracy. My research into BuenosTours certainly paid off. I was fortunate to be the only one being low season. As I had seen quite a bit of the area around where I was staying, Tracy suggested adapting the itinerary and skipping that area for places I may not get a chance to see. This made for an exceptional experience. I had not delved very far into Argentina's history and Tracy's depth of knowledge was impressive and I was given a wonderful easy to understand synopsis. Although we did some extensive walking ( as I am a keen walker) we also used some public transport modes to get further afield which let me see more of the Argentinian way of life. There were many highlights of the day, right from the outstanding meeting place to Recoleta Cemetery, and on through many districts. I highly recommend this tour for those wanting to see the sights of Buenos Aires rather than looking through a bus window. I can't rate Tracy high enough as a guide!
Tracy was so fun and knowledgeable about everything! We enjoyed the time that we spent with her and would highly recommend! It was one of our favorite days on our trip to BA and we had lots of great days!
Very knowledgeable and went above and beyond for our group.
Delightful deep dive insights into Buenos Aires and its history and culture. Couldn’t have been happier to spend six hours with Chris, our host and informational source extraordinaire. Throughly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know more with limited time.
Absolutely amazing cultural tour. Tracy was our guide. My experience the best tour guide that I have worked with. She was beyond words wonderful. Easy pace covered 7 miles.
We had a wonderful experience touring Buenos Aires with Tracy. She struck the perfect balance between walking and driving, allowing us to see so much of the city comfortably while still feeling immersed in it. Along the way, she shared fascinating insights—not just about the history, but what it’s really like to live here. What truly sets her apart is her warmth. She has a way of making you feel welcomed from the very beginning. As an Argentine tango dancer, she also gave us a unique and meaningful perspective on tango that we wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. I can’t recommend her highly enough—she made our time in Buenos Aires truly special. We travel often and can truly say she is one of the best guides we have had.
Tracy was a great tour guide. So much knowledge and information on Buenos Aires. She tailored our tour to our small group and was flexible when we added stops along the way. There are a lot of street fairs with the long holiday weekend. I will definitely take her tour again when I come back. We went EVERYWHERE! It was a perfect first day to learn the area
An amazing day - our guide Tracy was knowledgable and fun. She was flexible to our liking, showed us the true Buenos Aires - loved the local spots we visited. Thanks again Tracy! ❤️
We had only a short time in BA and were looking to get a good sense of the culture and city life. We got SO lucky doing a full day with Tracy from Buenos Tours! First off - the company was incredibly flexible and super easy to communicate with. Our flight was cancelled and via whatsapp we were able to easily be in touch and ultimately rebook. We had friends booked who were not able to make it due to the cancellations and they refunded them almost immediately. The day with Tracy was full of history, culture, local color, delicious food, and humor! Tracy is incredibly knowledgable and took our cues on what we were interested in seeing and hearing about. You could tell she was making choices all day long about where to take us and what to point out or talk about based on what she was learning along the way about our interests. Her passion for tango was a bonus we enjoyed a lot. We found this to be an incredible value - Tracy was 100% focused on making the experience what we wanted it to be and she fully succeeded!
Absolutely loved this walking tour, it felt very special from the meeting location, to the restaurant for lunch and finishing with a bottle of wine in San Telmo and all the sights and experiences in-between. Chris our guide was so knowledgeable and showed us so many fantastic sights around Buenos Aires. It was like having a freind show you around this beautiful city. I would highly recommend this tour.
Our walking tour of Buenos Aires was perfect, as was our guide! We got to see, and learn about, so many areas of the city, starting with meeting at the fabulous/beautiful book store. Arrive early so that you have a chance to spend time there. It’ll take your breath away. Our guide, Chris, was excellent! He is so knowledgeable and very personable. The tour was worth every penny! The price includes coffee, water and lunch.
We were fortunate to have the guide, Tracy to ourselves and she was excellent. Not only did she take us to all the major sites but she also told us lots about the history, politics and culture of the country We started at the beautiful bookstore, El Ateneo Grand Splendid and then walked to the Recoleta Cemetery where Tracy told us about all the notable graves. We travelled by tube, bus and taxi to visit La Boca and San Telmo areas. In La Boca we even saw a lookalike Maradona! For lunch Tracy took us to the most beautiful restaurant in La Boca with outside seating and music. As Tracy is also a tango dancer she told us lots about this which was really interesting. It helped us understand the show we saw on another day. It was one of our favourite days out.
Great day familiarizing myself with the beautiful city of Buenos Aires! Tracy is a great guide and knows her stuff! 10-10 would do it again.
We had a wonderful time touring BA with Tracy. She shared allot of interesting information about Argentina, Buenos Aires and the Tango. She was easy to understand and got us safely around town both walking and by subway and bus. Don’t hesitate to use BuenosTours to explore Buenos Aires.
We loved our full day walking tour with Tracy! She was so interesting as she talked about history, culture and lifestyle of Buenos Aires. She was very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Highly recommend this tour
We covered a lot of territory at a very pleasant pace. Guide shared a nice variety of insights on history architecture and other topics. He also suggested slight deviations to the preplanned route that he thought might be of interest to us, and they were.
I'm from Europe, my english is not great, so I decided to book a tour with a native of Buenos Tours. I did not enjoy it and here is why: 1) they are not from Argentina, so you will not get the full local experience or perspective, it is impossible to deliver that when you are not a true local porteño, my mistake for not considering this before booking with them. 2) they are informative in a surface level, not ready or prepared to answer my questions when for example I wanted to know more about a historical topic or when I pointed something I saw . They did not have the answer to my questions! That showed me that they are not really tour guides, is more like ''an expat living in Buenos Aires who walks you around town'' but forget about being able to go deep in explanations. I felt I knew more about Argentina than them, that is horrible! Next time I will pay more attention, they are great with marketing but they are not real guides. I have a lot of experience hiring tour guides who hold all the credentials and certifications, it was probably my mistake of not checking that in the first place. I found out they don't have any of that, but it was too late.
Tracy led us on a great walking tour. Her insights into the history of Argentina made the sights more meaningful. The cemetery was amazing and we were able to see several different areas in Buenos Aires that we never would have discovered on our own. It was a lot of walking, which we expected, but tiring nonetheless. I would recommend this small group tour to anyone visiting BA.
I could not recommend this experience more highly. Tracy was knowledgeable, engaging and (since I was the only attendee that day), able to pivot the itinerary — based on where I have been before — to ensure I got to experience the most from the city. It also left me feeling more confident to go about the city (and public transit) on my own. I am now foisting all of my knowledge, pictures, and excitement upon my friends and family. Thank you so much, Tracy!
Tour guide Oliver was tremendously informative and engaging throughout a full day tour of Buenos Aires highights. He customized the route according to our interests and offered a plethora of historical and cultural information at each site. Well worth booking this tour as a wonderful introduction to many of the unique aspects that brought us to this city.
Amazing day spent with Tracey getting a feel of Buenos Aires. Her knowledge is extensive and her friendliness made it an thoroughly entertaining day. As we only had a short time in BA this was a great value tour and included coffee , lunch , subway and entry fees to cemetery .
Oliver was a wealth of Buenos Aires knowledge and history. He balanced this knowledge with apt comparisons to the United States which was very insightful. We highly recommend - you won’t be disappointed!
Our guide was Tracy. She was excellent. She was prompt, very personable, informative and very well organized. She also adjusted the tour to meet our needs. No problems at all. No negative comments.
We do a lot of city walking tours around the world, and this was one of the best! Tracy was our guide and she was great! She was so knowledgeable and made the entire day very enjoyable. She offered many great suggestions and even followed up on our inquiries after the tour. Thanks Tracy for a memorable day in Buenos Aires!
There was a lot of dead space when we were on the tour. The guide was pleasant but seemed to be a bit preoccupied. We made adjustments to the schedule and he was comfortable with our doing so.
I am disappointed. Disappointed that I can only leave 5* for our 10* tour. Tracy was amazing. She is knowledge on all things Buenos Aires. I believe we covered all the important areas in the city. We never felt hurried or rushed. It was wonderful snaking our way across the city. Tracy even indulged my request to stray from her tour schedule to go handbag shopping at Casa Lopez. Communication with Tracy prior to our tour was impeccable. She was punctual picking us up from our AirBnb. I truly believe we started the day as clients and ended as family. Don’t hesitate to book this tour. I can guarantee that you will have a fantastic time.
I do not have enough words to express how extremely happy we are with our walking tour. Tracy was such an excellent guide. Honestly, it felt more like we were exploring a city with a knowledgeable and charismatic friend than simply being led around by a tour guide. We saw so many amazing things and learned so much about Buenos Aires. We ate delicious pizza and got tons of recommendations on how to spend the rest of our days. Booking this tour was easy. Everyone we worked with was super helpful and responsive. Tracy was flexible and intuitive and and was open to entertaining all of our questions, from tango to history to ice cream to pilates to etiquette (when you’re together for 7+ hours the conversation can have a pretty wide range). We would be delighted to work with Tracy again!
It was a great tour, highly recommend. She was vey knowledgeable and passionate about the city. It was a great way to see the city!
BA is a huge city but Chris was able to show us a lot in 6 and a half hours. Knowledgeable about the city history and myths made our day very enjoyable. Highly recommended
My wife and I did a two day walking tour (4 hours each day) with Buenos Tours. I had used them about 11 years ago and remember the tours were excellent, so decided to go with them again, this time with my wife We were not disappointed. The tours were well paced, very informative, and extremely interesting. Our first day was with Chris and the second with Tracy. Both guides treated us very well, asked what we wanted out of the tours and tailored the walking tours to our requests and interests. Our guides were very interesting to talk to, gave us a brief history of Argentina during the walks, and took us to all the interesting places in Buenos Aires a tourist should visit. We highly recommend Buenos Tours and wish to thank Chris and Tracy for taking such good care of us.
We were able to customize our tour to avoid duplicating stops with another tour we have scheduled. Chris was great, very knowledgeable about BA, and was able to offer the perspective of someone not born there, but with strong ties to the area. The day of our tour was quite warm, and he noticed that I was starting to flag, and made suggestions for shortening the remaining tour, while leaving decisions entirely up to us. Highly recommended!
Our all-day walking tour with Chris gave us an excellent orientation to Recoleta, Retiro, Central and San Telmo. Chris is friendly, well-informed and more than happy to linger in the places we found most interesting, and ready to move on briskly through the places of less interest. The Cemeterio is essentially a gigantic monument to the wealthy and powerful. Evita’s family tomb is less ostentatious than you might expect. Moving on through Recoleta and Retiro, we discovered shops to come back to on another day. In one neighborhood, Chris shared an amusing story of two lovers thwarted by a domineering mother, and the architectural revenge taken by the rejected suitor’s family. The monument to those Argentines killed in the Malvinas War is deeply moving. All along the walk, we visited lovely parks with stupendous rubber trees. For me, these living giants were the best architecture of all! We had a terrific bistro lunch at Confiteria Ideal on Suipacha… the empanadas were delicious! Then on to see the changing of the guard at the cathedral that houses the remains of General San Martín followed by a delightful change of pace strolling through the charming San Telmo neighborhood. All in all, a marvelous day-long experience led by a personable local expert who made the trek a memorable excursion.
This customizable walking tour was a great introduction to Buenos Aires. We went from La Boca to Recoleto over the span of the tour. Our guide, Oscar, was knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us a good understanding of the development and growth of BA and Argentina. If there is something specific you would like to see, let the guide know. He was extremely flexible and accommodated our requests. We would definitely recommend this tour and Oscar.
Our tour guide, Oliver, picked us up at the Sheraton and began a comprehensive tour of Buenos Aires. Oliver was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He took us through the neighborhoods of San Telmo, Palermo, Recoleta, Retiro, Microcentro, and La Boca. Oliver shared his vast knowledge and historical stories with us. By having this tour at the beginning of our stay in Buenos Aires we were able to further enjoy our time in Argentina.
The tour gave us a great taste off the city. We had a short time in Buenos Aires and Chris was wonderful, very knowledgeable & showed us all the he could He probably would’ve showed us more but the shopping distracted us ! I highly recommend this tour especially if you don’t have too much time in the city and want to see as much as you can.
Chris the tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a a great introduction to Argentina in a few short hours. Completely personalized to our needs. Would definitely recommend to others.
A solid choice for a private walking tour of the main attractions in the city of Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is a big city and there’s only so much you can see in a day on foot but this was a great alternative to the typical city bus tour. The tour operator did a good job communicating with us prior to our tour date and were quick in helping us make accommodation changes to our tour due to last minute changes in our travel plans and we were very thankful for their assistance with that. Our tour guide on the day of was Chris and he did a fantastic job guiding us throughout the day and giving us a lot of history and information on the city of Buenos Aires. Some attractions we came across included the neighborhood of San Telmo, some empanadas at a local empanada cafe, then towards the city center, Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, Catedral Metropolitana de Buenos Aires, Avenida 9 de Julio, the Buenos Aires Obelisk, Confitería La Ideal, and Recoleta Cemetery. It started to rain halfway through the tour unfortunately but Mother Nature is not something we can control. Overall, we enjoyed it and appreciated the personalized small group private tour experience to introduce ourselves to the city of Buenos Aires. Big thanks once again to our guide, Chris for being the one to lead us! - Nolan
Walking Tour with Chris from BA Private Walking Tour - group of 6 - excellent communication with Alan prior to see what we were interested in - wanted to do both La Boca and Recoleta so no problem to add an hour on. We covered La Boca, San Telmo the city centre and Recoleta - long day and it was VERY hot. Chris adapted for us we went and was also helpful in taking us to change cash. For those concerned about the "walking" for 8 hours - we cabbed to La Boca and then caught a bus from there to San Telmo and a subway to Recoleta. Stops along the way for water, lunch etc
We had the guide to ourselves and it was a great decision as she was very knowledgeable about the city and we had a variety of experiences including much historical info current city challenges and positives. Lovely lunch while seeing many mansions along with history. She gave us good advice on what to see on our additional days and restaurants Ask for Tracy!
Tracy was very informative and shared a ton of information with us. She was knowledgable, personable, and passionate. She was accommodating of last minute shift in timing and still managed to provide a very thorough introduction to Buenos Aires/Argentine history, politics and culture.
We had a very enjoyable tour, visiting many beautiful and intriguing places. Our very personable guide, Tracy, was most informative and provided a great insight into the history and culture of the city. We thoroughly recommend this tour if you want to really experience the city.
This full day tour was one of the best tours we have taken. Tracy was very knowledgeable and her passion for the city of Buenos Aires made this tour extremely interesting. Several distinct and different neighbourhoods were showcased and visiting local cafes and shops gave a very well rounded glimpse of Argentinian life in Buenos Aires. Special thanks to Tracy for going above and beyond expectations by ensuring that we completed our souvenir shopping and then brought us back to our hotel neighbourhood at the end of the tour. Many many thanks for a wonderful day! Sherry and Lee C.
General enjoyment of the tour. The guy was very good, the driver was very good, made for a very pleasant experience.
The tour guide was excellent. He led us across Buenos Aires pointing out important and interesting places. We saw a lot of the city and its architecture.
This was a fantastic tour of the city. Our guide, Tracy, was so knowledgeable and fun to spend the day with. We saw every part of the city that we wanted to see and more. It was like spending the day with a good friend who wanted to show you her city and give you all of the information that you wanted. It was one of the best tours that I have taken and I highly recommend Buenos Tours and Tracy.
We can thoroughly recommend this excellent tour - a great way to get to know the city. Our guide, Tracy, was our companion throughout the day. The route was flexible enough to be tailored to our needs and we learnt a lot about the history and culture of Argentina, tango, and a whole lot more!
We came to Buenos Aires for several days and wanted to start things off with a thorough overview of its diverse neighborhoods. From the very first email communications it was obvious this is a very professional outfit! They offer lots of options and made the tour plan easy! Tracy at BuenosTours tailored our private walking tour to cover whatever we wanted! She had tons of useful suggestions for us and did everything she could to immerse us in local culture and from her we learned about the history and about current life and events in the city. Tracy is so knowledgeable and I highly recommend this tour company and Tracy in particular! The walking tour made our visits to the sites so much more worthwhile!
My wife and had an excellent tour of BA with our guide Tracy. We went to all of the areas we were interested in and Tracy was very knowledgeable about them all. Many other potential options were available depending on your interests. Tracy was very friendly and we had an unforgettable day and experience with her.
