Although predominately this tour was about local food, it was much more than that. Not only did we find out about local delicacies but we learnt how, when and why they are eaten. This tour takes you into the back streets of Budapest, away from the tourists so you get a real feel of what it might be like to live in this fantastic city. Thank you Nick for a brilliant tour.

Bea was amazing… She spoke perfect English, was extremely knowledgeable and lots of fun! All of us had an amazing time!
We had a four hour tour with Norbert in Budapest on Saturday, May 16. It was one of the best tours we had on our entire 17 day trip. Norbert was the very best tour guide. He was informative, accompanying us to several sights, stops to take pictures for us when our view was obstructed, etc. He was funny and engaging. Kudos to Norbert for a fantastic experience in Budapest.
A great introduction to authentic Hungarian foods with the added bonus of interesting information & context around Budapest history and customs. Our guide Emőke was knowledgeable, friendly, warm, and made the experience a lot of fun.
Great food tour and Nick was great fun and very knowledgeable. We both took all his recommendations about where to eat after and it was a perfect way to set up our City break in Budapest.
This tour left a little more to be desired. First, let’s start with the positive: Gabor, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and full of historical information on the origins of each food or drink as well as the history of the food. He was great. The tour was originally meant to be a 2 hour food tour. Our tour was finished in 1 hour. We traveled to two places. At the second place, Gabor brought food and drink from other locations (cold chimney cake, Palinka and souvenir glasses, and a popular candy bar). We ate quickly, and felt slightly rushed. Traditionally, in our experience with prior food tours, part of the charm is visiting local spots, engaging with local merchants, and actually eating the food when it is freshly prepared and hot. The first stop was cafeteria-style with food that had been prepared and sitting for a time. On our second stop we had freshly prepared langos which was delicious. We came to find that the second stop was our only other stop. Gabor took cold chimney cake from his bag, as well as candy and palinka. I was hoping for a more rich experience and at the price point fo our tour (almost $100/person) I fell very let down. Again, Gabor was very nice but the locations chosen and the lack of freshly prepared food or experience made this a tour I will not recommend.
Confirm with a call a day prior to scheduled tour. Great insight to local food and history of local area.
Dalma was excellent. Went through the market trying local things, as well as to a local restaurant to try local flavors. was a great tour.
We met Gabe during a national holiday. No worries at all as he went out of his way to make an unforgettable experience! The knowledge, food (drink:) and friendship was amazing! Thank you Gabe
Great tour. Great local foods. Nick was a great guide Very proud of his city City is beautiful The cinnamon chimney cake was amazing
Fantastic experience. Really interesting tour, we had a great time and Iots of fun. A brilliant introduction to the city.
Gabor was informative and we tried a variety of foods. Wine and Palinka too. Great tour. Recommend this guide for your tour.
This is a private tour. Andras is a very engaging host, and he also told us a lot about the history of Hungary. We went to two restaurants, a pastry shop, and made three stops within the Grand Market. All 6 stops were great.
First off, our guide requested we start an hour after the set time, and even then, she was 15 minutes late. Then she spent a half hour just showing us places on a map. When we finally got food, it was at one restaurant, and she didn’t even discuss the food. We have been on many food tours, and the guide usually takes us to many places and we learn about the food, and have many samples of the local cuisine. This did not happen on this tour. One stop! And no discussion about the food in relation to the country. Our group was highly disappointed. It was an expensive tour and not worth it. The advertising for this tour said we would see a ruin bar and central market hall and Jewish quarter. This did not happen. This said it was an award winning private food tour. Really? I am respectfully requesting a refund. We have used Viator for many experiences in many countries and have never had such a bad experience.
The food tour was lovely and our guide Beata was very friendly and knowledgeable. Two of the five were vegetarian and she did an outstanding job of ensuring the vegetarians also had a great experience . Highly recommend .
Our kind and cheerful guide Anna did an amazing job introducing us to Budapest and some of the local foods. We got a nice portion of several different foods and a pleasant walking tour as well. She also gave us excellent restaurant and cafe recommendations before we departed.
Nick was our guide around Budapest. Not only did he teach us about food and culture, but we discussed Hungary economics, history and politics. When we had a brief moment, he also took us to the last standing portion of the Jewish ghetto wall. Our children, age 10, and age 12, Enjoyed the tour as much as my wife and me. We highly recommend the tour suggest that you request Nick.
Great time. Guide was wonderful. Authentic Food options. Enjoyed it very much. Guide also shared local history.
We really did enjoy Anna. She was knowledgeable and informative. However, we only went to 2 stops for a 6 part tasting. The food was delicious but felt incomplete. We do food tasting tours often and all over the world. It was disappointing. If it’s 6 foods versus 6 stops, please make that clear.
Nice tour guide, not enough history of city and food. Also food was not great or enough. 1st tasting was a tiny scone he brought in a Tupperware container. 2nd was a salad with minimal protein. Lettuce was brown. 3rd a chimney cake, which was good, 4th was a Langosh - One was shared by 5 people (Including guide). Hardly enough to taste. Other 2 tastings were beer or wine. Left hungry and went for pizza elsewhere on our own.
What a great tour. Nick was great, excellent food stops and lots of interesting information on history and culture around the food.
We had an excellent tour with Gabor. It was a great afternoon of food, drink and history - he was incredibly knowledgeable. Food and drink selections were exactly what we were hoping for. Highly recommend!
Our tour guide, Nicholas, was very friendly and knowledgable about the history of Budapest, however, this experience was VERY overpriced for a "food tour". My friend and I were asked to SHARE one sausage, a chimney cake, and a langos. We each had a beer as well. The food and drinks were tasty, but this experience costs us $234.00! Definitely did not get our money's worth in food samplings!
Nicholas was very accommodating. Our flight was delayed and he worked with us so we could still enjoy a tour with him.
Super experienced, lifelong local. Knew so much about local culture, food, history and just fun to be around. Will use him again next time!
Tours like these are a great way to find out what a city like Budapest is like under the surface. You are guided by a local who can answer all those questions about those odd things you see around you. Would highly recommend doing something like this early in a visit to a city.
Emoke made our tasting experience special by mixing history with the food. A walk around Budapest between tastings was an added bonus.
What an amazing tour! We spent almost 3 hours (Tibby generously went over time with us) and it still didn't feel enough. Tibby fast became a friend that we would have spent the rest of the afternoon/evening with. Tibby is a kind, gentle person who gave a lot of himself - his knowledge of Budapest made the tour a constant source of information and insight. Tibby's interest in humanity also gave a very thought provoking and real side to the people and history of Budapest If you visit Budapest, Tibby is the only guide you need Thank you so much
Absolutely fantastic way to experience the culinary delights of Budapest! We arrived early at the Great Market Hall where we met Dalma (so we could explore it a bit). When Dalma arrived we got to try an herbal liquor, several types of sausages, Hungarian cottage cheese, goose liver pare, smoked Gouda, some different breads, plum marmalade and some pastry THEN we left the market and went to try langosh. Dalma taught us a lot about the culinary background of the Hungarian people mixed in with some of the country's history. Very interesting and informative. I highly recommend!
This was a great experience tasting excellent local foods, desserts and drinks. Our guide Zsofia was amazing! Very knowledgeable, helpful and fun to spend a few hours with. Thanks Zsofia!
This food tour was fabulous and our tour guide TB was the best! I’ve done food tours all over the world and this one has been the best by far! TB made the tour extra special. Highly recommend! The food was fantastic and authentic.
The host cancelled one hour before tour so left us last minute to re arrange and plan whole day. We were in Budapest for the weekend so it really threw the whole trip.
We experienced some delicious food: pastries, ice cream, sausages and goulash. Interesting beverages including local wine, beer and fruit liqueurs. Our Guide, Zsophia was delightful and shared many interesting facts and stories about life in Budapest and Hungary. My favorite part of a food tour is gaining an understanding of the culture. This tour did not disappoint.
Loved our tour guide. Personal, knowledgeable, lots of fun would recommend this tour. You definitely will get a full stomach.
Guide was great and we had a great time tasting and sipping at all the stops , well worth the experience
Loved it all. Tibi was excellent, informative and entertaining. The food was fantastic - especially the goulash soup. Using public transport to move to the different locations, Tibi also assisted us to return home. Would do it all again if we had the time.
Our host was good - she gave us good insight into Budapest history and activities. Problem is this was supposed to be a Food Tour. It really was only a small bit of food tour. Only one food stop and it was mediocre. One chimney cake also. For the $'s not a good value or use of our time. Viator food tours have been great generally - this one not really a food tour as advertised. She did call to reschedule our tour which was OK but unusla for it not go as scheduled. Disappointing.
We had a terrific afternoon with Beata who had a great depth of knowledge of the local history. She offered us traditional Hungarian food and drink experiences which we very much enjoyed (and we were so full afterwards). There was plenty of variety in our tastings and we finished at a really interesting and quirky venue which I won’t name so it remains a lovely surprise if you choose this tour.
Do not spend money on this tour. Totally disappointed! We booked 6 tastings with drinks in Budapest 2 hour walking tour to experience local history and food experience. The photo is my only plate tasting experienced, note there is 6 items on the plate served to me at a local cafeteria style eatery with food on display pre-cooked ordered by tour guide. When we met guide we received our only included local drink 2 x UNICOM 40ml sample bottle to share! The guide left us to eat while she went to purchase dessert…a local candy bar in wrapper. Unbelievable!!!! Such a rip off.
Got to try a few different Hungarian foods. A little disorganized, but good none the less. Great amount of food & drink. Very friendly.
Very disappointed .. whilst guide was lovely and informative, they changed the start time and meeting point 3 times, then was 45 mins late and the tour only lasted 1.5 hours not 2. In addition we only went to one restaurant for sausage and mash .. not the 6-10 award winning food tasting experience advertised. We have asked for part refund and been refused. Do not book
A very enjoyable afternoon with Bea. We tasted great local food whilst learning about the local culture. We ate, drank and laughed. A brilliant way to explore the city.
We tried a lot of delicious Hungarian food and Bea was able to shift the tour to accommodate what we had already tried so far in our trip. Highly recommend to anybody!
We ended up being the only couple on the tour. Agnes did a fantastic job of showing us around the food scene in Budapest as well as some of the historical sites along the way. She was very nice, made sure all our expectations were met, and did a very good job of explaining the evolution of the culinary scene. Agnes was very communicative before the tour with expectations and meeting times/places. She even offered that we message her after our tour with any questions or recommendations.
This tour was perfect. Just what we were looking for. Bea met us at our hotel and took us to a restaurant we would never have found for some traditional dishes. Then we explored the food market where Bea explained Hungarian wines, sausages, vegetables, and paprikas. It was very interesting and informative. At other spots we tasted delicious sausage, then funnel cake. Along the way, Bea pointed out interesting buildings and their history. Bea was fun, entertaining, and knowledgeable. We could have hung out with her all day!
Nick was an excellent guide. We experienced food that we would not have tried if not for the tour. He also took time to knowledgeably answer our historical and cultural questions. I would absolutely recommend!
We had a great time with Tibe (Tiberiu) on our tour. He took us to several restaurants where we were able to get a great sampling of Hungarian cuisine. He provided a great history of the area on our walk and even took us to the original "Ruin" bar. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and time with Tibe. I'd highly recommend this tour.
Very informative and guide Nick was great. Visited the Jewish ghetto wall remaining there. A little disappointed there were only 3 tastings.
Experiencing the traditional foods of Budapest. Getting a flavor for the culture and the people and food. Goulash, Palinka, and lanugo’s were so great and fun to try!!
I thought this would be an amazing introduction to Budapest food and culture. Our guide was sweet and gave information about the history. I honestly have never been on a food tour so I did not know what to expect. However I paid close to $400 for two people and this was not even close to what was described. We wondered around the market got information on history, had a small board of 4 cold cuts, Togo bag of cookies and savory biscuits, a bowl of goulash and something else one glass of wine and then 5 pieces of cake. It was plenty of food but not very diverse no wine pairing, I felt like I had to ask permission for drinks etc. it would also be best to not pair a guide with severe food restrictions such as a vegan with a meat eater! Thank you
