The best way to see, feel and experience a city has to be on foot. Monica met us at our hotel and having explained what was going to happen we set off for a wonderful tour of Budapest - both sides of the Danube. We had been on a city tour the previous day by car, so she did adapt some of the tour to avoid overlapping - but we saw so much more by walking round the city. She brought everything to life and went through the chequered history of the country but also very kindly shared her own first hand experiences living in the city today which was fascinating and enlightening. Fantastic walking tour of Budapest. We got to see a lot of the city & we learned about the different sights. Our tour guide was very sweet & knowledgeable.
Monika was a great guide. Very friendly and we had a small group which was even better. This tour is on the longer side but didn’t feel like it. Strudel stop was great.
Our local tour guide met us at our hotel. She was warm and friendly and shared a ton of rich history of Budapest. We were able to be flexible and since we had visited the Buda castle region the day before, she took us to the Jewish section and gave us a detailed and sobering tour of what had happened in Hungary. We walked away from this to tour feeling that we really got to know Budapest and its rich history in a very short time. The strudel stop was a sweet highlight! I was a little wary of the cabbage strudel recommendation, but it was delicious!! Trust the locals, right? The tour was well worth the money, book it in advance!
Petra was a wonderful guide - provided lots of historical context and information and happy to answer lots of questions. Really enjoyed it.
Having a private tour with guide meant we could customise the tour to discuss subjects of interest to us. Rebecca our guide was knowledgeable and interesting and provided personal glimpses into Hungarian culture and lifestyle. I would highly recommend this tour.
Monika was an amazing tour guide and brought Budapest and its history to life. The monuments and squares were amazing with plenty of time to take pictures.
I had Andy/Andrea as a guide. She was fantastic. Very knowledgeable guide with a professional approach. Next time I come back to Budapest, I'll get back to her. The coffee stop was also very nice. Lots of different tasty strudels and good tea.
Eszter met us in the hotel lobby to start the tour, and was very personable and spoke English very well. On our way to the train to where the tour would start (and throughout the rest of the tour), she was full of information and personal anecdotes about the city's history and her personal experience there over the years. She clearly paid attention to what we were interested in hearing about or not, our comfort with the weather (it was very cold), and the coffee shop stop in the middle was superb (and especially welcome with the weather). Also, at the end of the tour we told her what else we had coming up and she gave us advice about restaurants and other helpful information (for example, she pointed out where the entrance to the Parliament tour is, which probably ended up being a life-saver for us getting to the tour on time).
We had a very good experience. Our guide, Andrea, was nice and super prepared and we were able to get the best of the city while learning a lot about history of Hungary
We were met by Christina at 9.30am at our hotel. She was both friendly and fun to be around. Throughout the tour she displayed a great wealth of knowledge and spoke with passion over all areas visited. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone and hopefully you will be lucky enough to get Christina as your guide.
Tamas was an amazing guide who showed us so much of Budapest in 4+ hours (tour was scheduled to be only 3 hours). He covered 1,000 years of history and answered our endless questions. Tamas also helped us plan activities for the rest of our stay, and even provided information for a future trip to Hungary. I highly recommend this walking tour and Tamas in particular if you want a fabulous tour of Budapest and a fascinating overview of Budapest's history and culture.
Just two of us with Balint. He set a great pace. He was extremely knowledgeable about the sites and history with a great sense of humor. The pastry sampling was excellent. We would definitely recommend this tour.
We booked this tour for 6 of us as we thought it would be a great way of seeing the major sights in both Buda and Pest. Tamas met us at our hotel - and he was ready to go before we were - with a couple fo ideas for an itinerary. But said that he was happy to shape the tour around what we wanted to do which we did, including him arranging for us to stop at a different Cafe. He was a mine of useful information and, to be fair, some useless but nonetheless amusing info as well ! And our 3 hour tour ended up being a 4.5 hour tour and he would have been happy to carry on - but we needed to stop for lunch. Have to say that he was one of the best tour guides we've had - not just in Budapest but anywhere,
Our delightful guide Petra led us a fascinating tour starting from the Opera House and ending on Castle Hill. Whew! She kept us on good pace, mindful to share interesting historical facts and amusing legends. She was wise to take the local metro for a few stops just to get to the prime tourist spots in a timely manner. It's a great way to check out the lay of the land and overview of this vast city. Highlights include: City Park with its many replica castles; Szechenyi baths; Matthias Church; Chain Bridge. You also get a nice rest stop to sample streudel. Note: in summer wear sunscreen, a hat, and bring water, since there are no stops along the way to replenish yourself.
Our tour guide bogata is excellent. She explained us about Budapest history and took us to visit Buda and Pest.. we walk and use metro along the way.. and the cafe stop was also nice.. the cafe has a unique interior.. Bogata also very friendly, gave us time to take pics.. just like old friends, all was relax and didnt like strict tour guide..
This walking tour is a perfect introduction to Budapest. We not only walked but also took the metro and were given a very interesting look at Hungarian history. Our guide, Anne, not only gave us a history lesson but also so much useful info for getting around: how to buy metro tickets, basic pronunciation, help with exchange rate, popular foods - so much “survival “ info for first time visitors. Only suggestion we would have to make the tour even better would be a short introduction to history ( maybe with a map) before the walk starts. We loved this tour!!!
This was an informative tour with Edit (like Edith) as our guide. She was a delight. We met near the Opera House and took the subway up to Heroes Square. This history of Hungary is fascinating. We walked nearby to an area I think it was called Castle park. That was very nice. Then the baths we got to see the inside. Then back on the subway to walk over the Chain Bridge and up the Buda Hill. This wasn't real steep but I got tired after traveling for 10 days and it was a 75 degree day. Still would highly recommend. I am 71 to let you know where I'm coming from. Budapest my favorite!
We were a party of 4 - retired folks from the midwest of the USA. Balint, our tour guide, met us at our AirBnb apartment. We walked, took the metro, and the bus along our tour. We saw both Buda and Pest. Our tour lasted from 2pm to 6pm+. We stopped once at a cafe for "sweet/salty/and savory" along with a cheese/sausage plate along with beverages. Balint was very knowledgeable, encouraged questions and dialogue with us and was very friendly and customer oriented. Our only surprise, he did not return us to our apartment at the end of the tour... it was not a problem... just a surprise. We would highly recommend Absolute Tours..... This particular tour, and our tour guide Balint!
Our tour guide, Balint, was very interesting & knowledgeable regarding Hungarian history. The tour was just the right length of time and covered a moderate area of Budapest. I would recommend this tour.
What a great experience. Rebeka made our visit special and had us memorized the entire time. Highly recommend it.
We went on a tour with Thámas on Sunday 24/6. He was both very friendly and very knowledgeable. He asked us where our interest lies (20th century history for us) and he adapted his tour accordingly and ended in the Museum of Terror. The tour itself was very good and informative. We can only recommend this en Thámas as guide.
We are on our first visit to Budapest, and my wife had prebooked this tour for 6 of us. Our tour date was 6/17 /2018. Our tour guide was Thomas (Tamas), and he made this a very enjoyable experience for us. Since we had visited some spots already the day before, he quickly adapted our tour to focus on things most of us had not seen. He made the walk fun by creating a little competition among us to test who was listening closely, which made everyone pay attention and get a lot from the tour. Thomas is very knowledgeable, witty and responsive to the wishes of the group. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is a new visitor to Prague.
Our guide, Bogata, arrived at the hotel on time and took us on a walking tour which covered the main attractions in both Buda and Pest. Bogata was informative and her briefings were both interesting and informative. the coffee/cake stop was at the best strudel house in Budapest and the cake was sublime. Would have no hesitation in recommending both Bogata and the walking tour experience.

Our private walking tour guide was Sandor. Although we had already visited a number of the places he wished to take us too, we revisited them as he had much more interesting information to offer. We experienced local buses, trams and the metro which is something we wouldn't have done on our own for fear of getting lost. Our tour started at The New York Cafe, Andrassy Street, Heroes Square, a quick peek inside the Thermal Baths, St.Stephen's Basilica, stopping at a Retro Cafe for coffee and pastry, crossing the Danube via the Chain Bridge, local bus up to Buda Castle viewing the President's House and the soon to be Prime Minister's residence. We saw so many beautiful sites we no doubt would not have found on our own. Sandor spoke perfect English, was very easy to talk too and we cannot believe how much information he retains. It was fascinating and we really enjoyed spending the morning with him. By the way, we walked from Buda Castle back to our hotel. Thank you for the experience, Budapest is our all time best ever City Break.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Hungary - which was exactly what we were looking for. He was very personable and made the whole tour very enjoyable. Our group was only 4 people so everyone had a chance to engage and ask lots of questions. I would certainly do this again. Also, the pastries were great!

This tour was amazing. Arpod was the greatest guide anyone could ask for. He tailored the tour to our needs and went above and beyond to make sure all of the sites we wanted to see were visited. Best way to get an overview of the city.

This was a highlight of our trip to Budapest! Our guide, Balint, was very knowledgeable and easy to get to know. Not only did we see all the main attractions, he spent time answering our questions about the current culture. If you only have one day for touring, this is the tour for you. Since it is private, you can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. We used public transportation and Balint gave us a quick tutorial so we were well prepared to go it alone when the tour was complete. Wonderful day.

Good trip guide was knowledgably, café was nice but not an impressive trip

As we had been to Budapest before, our guide was able to tailor our walking tour to included things we had not seen are were unlikely to find on our own. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. Excellent experience.

Our tour guide was a very enjoyable and knowledgeable companion. The tour was well paced and the guide went out of his way to make sure we were able to have a wide variety of experiences. We had a really great time and we loved Budapest.

fabulous tour guide, very knowledgeable made the tour special with his stories and sense of humor.

Orshia aka Orshi led us through this wonderful walk that introduced us to the city ! A young actress taking time off to care for her 3 year old son, being a City guide gives her the flexibility to balance home and work. A very pleasant, humourous and knowledgeable guide who in a leisurely comfortable walk showed us with pride the wonderful city that is her home !

We had a wonderful private walking tour which took us to the places we had not yet seen. Guide was excellent and took the time to see what we wanted and needed to make this private tour the best for us.

We had a great walking tour of Budapest led by Ardap. He was able to tailor a tour for us with a blend of history, architecture and culture which did not double up on sights seen the previous day. We took a ride on the historic metro and ended up at the baths across the Danube after a short tram ride. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone as you can do the walk at your own pace and not be slowed down with large groups.

That was THE best tour! Our tour guide Adrienne was truly awesome. We went at our own pace and added to walk over the chain bridge and the Jewish section. We always use Viator where ever we are in Europe and have never been disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our private walking tour with Bogata. She was amazing, with so much knowledge. I would tour with her again, anytime! We covered so much ground and saw so many grand sights. This was the best way to see the city of Budapest. Thank you, Bogata and Viator.

Adrienne was a WONDERFUL guide prompt, professional, informative, fun, energetic, and passionate about her work. We wanted to learn not only about ancient Hungarian history but also get a glimpse of the impact of WWII and Communist rule. Adrienne was knowledgeable on all fronts! She also was attentive to our interests and gave us an overview of where we would walk and what we could expect for the tour. Appreciated the map we were given as well!
There is a good deal of walking on this tour but it was exactly what we were hoping to experience. Enjoyed the metro ride and the the struedel/refreshment stop was perfectly timed. The stairs to the Buda Castle area could be challenging to some but she offered the funicular as an option. We did that on our own later in the day and chose the down vs. the up ride.
Definitely a great value!

While on a 18 day trip throughout Europe, this was our least favorite tour we did. This was the only private all tour, all other tours we did were group tours, I'm not sure if that's why! Our tour guide did not seem as knowledgeable as other tour guides we had. Overall we did walk to all the sights and but details for all the sights were not really elaborated on I had to ask a lot of questions about sights we had visited. I highly recommend the Budapest Food Walking Tour and river cruise in the evening for sunset!

We met Andi at our hotel. Her English was impeccable and she was very friendly. We were very impressed with her knowledge and it was really good to find out about the history of Budapest. The tour lasted around 4 hours. We did the tour on our first morning in the city and it was great for getting our bearings and finding out what we wanted to go back to to see in more detail. We started in the Castle District around our hotel and then walked across the Chain Bridge into Pest. Andi took us for a drink and strudel in a lovely cafe. We went on the Metro out to Heroes Square which was very interesting. It was great with just the two of us and Andi. We could ask questions and go at our own pace rather than being in a large group. Can't recommend highly enough.

A must see and visit...rich in culture and history. Our tour guide George was excellent and full of knowledge. This country has lots of beautiful buildings, museum, castles, churches, etc. Don't forget to dip into their ever popular baths with the therapeutic warm water and savour their pastry and desserts later.

Tour guide was very informative and displayed a lot of enthusiasm. The guide actually spent more than the allotted time with us, since we asked a number of questions and had a really good dialogue with her about the city. This tour in our opinion was a really good value.

The private walking tour that we did along with the friends we were traveling with was the optimum way to go. Our guide, Ferenc Manu, was fantastic. He provided us with an informative tour and his love of his country was apparent. Within the four hours of the tour we covered many areas of the city and left the tour much more knowledgeable than when we started regarding Budapest and it's history. Excellent value.

Was a great tour. Unfortunately was raining all day.

Our guide iLdiko Bogata was great. She is. Very knowledgable and well traveled. Our itenerary was exactly what we wanted. I would recommend her to anyone that would like a private tour in Budapest.

Very thorough explanations. Great enthusiasm. Adapted the tour to our needs and goals. Great tour.

Very informative walking tour hitting just about all of the sites we wanted to see.

Excellent. We loved Budapest and Jolst was an excellent guide. His other job is teaching, so he was very good at informing us in interesting ways about the historical sights.

This tour was such a good way to see the highlights of Budapest, there was only two of us with our guide Ballint so we were able to ask questions and get information that would have been difficult in a bigger group. Ballint was a great guide, very intetesting and gave us insight to the history and life in Budapest. The stop at the cafe was lovely, great pastries and really good coffee. Would highly recommend this tour Budapest is an amazing city with an extensive history and this tour provides an awful lot in a few hours.

Our guide a local history school teacher-can't remember his name picked us up right on time at our hotel.
It was an extremely hot day in Budapest and there was a lot of walking we covered the ground from the castle hill to the Monument Square! . Our guide was very interesting ...he loved history and we enjoyed his commentary and stories. He was very considerate and accommodating because the heat was making it difficult to be in the sunshine etc.
