Great experience, Marti was very friendly and knowledgable. Excellent location in the middle of Budapest
This was a wonderful tour, and you will be amazed that making strudel is much easier than you think. If you are traveling solo, you may not be able to book on viator or getyourguide, as they want you to have at least 2 to sign up. No problem, go to Marti's website, Flavors of Budapest, and Marti will do all she can to make sure to find a class you can be part of. Even if you have never baked before, you will enjoy the class, and you get to taste what you made. Enjoy this class. Highly recomended.
Hands on AMAZING experience! All 6 of us participated as she took us through the process step by step with the goal being to be able to recreate the pastry strudel at home. I left feeling prepared to do this! Both cherry/cheese and apple were delicious and gentle in flavor and the cheese dip with vegetables and amazing Hungarian sausage also incredible! This is a MUST when visiting!
We highly recommend Flavors of Budapest Cooking School. Marti’s strudel making class was fun and very informative. In addition to the preparation technique, we also learned a lot about Hungarian ingredients and culture.
Márti's Stretch & Bake Hungarian Strudel class was a highlight of our visit to Budapest! Márti creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere and provides clear directions, useful "secret" tips, and lots of wonderful conversation. It's truly a hands-on experience. And the Hungarian bites and strudel made for a delicious end to the baking experience! Highly recommend.
I've been to a few cooking classes now but this was definitely one of the best experiences. Marti is really friendly and a good teacher. She imparted lots of knowledge about the technique of strudel making but also about the history of Hungarian cuisine. We had a lovely time and would definitely join another of her classes when we return to Budapest!
Excellent teacher, very organized . Expected participation by everyone in the group when explaining and demonstrating strudel making technique . Had lots of practice stretching the dough. Very friendly and class was held in a beautiful home and kitchen. Lovely snacks and we got to take home left over strudel!! A fun way to spend a morning.
So glad my friend booked this class and invited me to attend. There ended up being 4 friends who went, and we all had a fantastic time. Marti made sure to include each and every one of us in the strudel making process. She is so passionate about what she does and really made this an enjoyable experience. I feel this is well priced for what you receive - the bites and drinks were delicious and we got to take home the strudel that we had made. I would highly recommend to anyone - even if you do not know your way around a kitchen!
This was such a lovely experience and Marti was wonderful. We made two kinds of strudel and had an informative and hands-on experience that made my friend and me want to try this at home. Plus, the wine, snacks, and ability to eat what we created made for a memorable evening.
What a brilliant way to spend a morning! We had a great time learning about how to make a traditional Hungarian strudel and loved the hands on experience. To round off the day we ate the strudel and washed it down with a local Hungarian wine. The studio set up was a home from home. Absolutely fantastic so please go and book this experience
Had the best time learning to make and stretch strudel. It was great and would definitely tell my friends to do it when they visit Budapest. Marti was the best. She was very patient and made everyone feel right at home
I recently took part in a strudel-making class and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. We made apple strudel and a cottage cheese & cherry version. The instructor created a very engaging and hands-on environment, encouraging us to check the dough at multiple stages so we could really understand the process. It felt like I truly learned something—not just followed a recipe. The studio itself was beautiful and incredibly well-equipped. Honestly, if I ever open my own cooking space in the future, I’d love to model it after this one. The instructor was clearly well-prepared and experienced, and it showed in every detail of the session. Strudel is not something you can easily learn just from YouTube—this class made all the difference. Highly recommended!
What a great experience! Marti (the owner) is an amazing chef with a deep knowledge of cooking. The class was very hands-on and we came with a family of 5 including 3 young girls 8, 11, 12. I would take any of her classes.
This was a highlight of my family's seven days in Budapest. We had a large group ranging from age 10 to 77, and every one of us enjoyed making the strudel as well as eating the fruits of our labor afterwards. Marti and her husband have a clean, welcoming, and convenient location, and Marti was so patient with our many questions. I would highly recommend this experience!!
This was one of our best travel experiences. Marti is delightful and generous. We learned how to make Hungarian strudel and had a fantastic time doing it. Marti is a great teacher!
The most amazing master class with strudel! We had a fantastic time with our family and kids. Marti is the most welcoming and kind host! A few hours went by in a pleasant atmosphere where we got to learn a lot. We tried two different types of delicious strudels we made from scratch, as well as local snacks and excellent wine while waiting for the strudel to bake. The studio is very cozy and stylish, we made lots of great fotos! A 5 start in every way, would love to be back!
Marty is amazing! Our team enjoyed the warm welcome and the pleasant experience! It was fun, it was useful. We recommend
We had a fantastic evening from the beginning. The communication from start to finish was great, we were given a few different options and ask what our preferences were, then received very detailed directions that made walked to the studio very easy. When we arrived and began to cook it was very personable and hands on! We look forward to trying the recipes at home.
Marti was fantastic! Fun time for the family. Went above and beyond to help us get taxis back to our boat. Highly recommend!
Went to streudel making class with a group of friend and had a great time. Marti is so warm, welcoming, and makes it a hands on experience.
The perfect way to learn how to make strudel from scratch. Marti was very informative and shared many stories about traditional Hungarian cooking, ingredients and customs. It was a wonderful experience with hand-stretched strudels, tasty snacks and wine. I would highly recommend this cooking class when you visit Budapest. Thank you, Marti!
The one thing I wanted to do on my first visit to Budapest was to learn how to make strudel for my 91 year old Hungarian Dad. I was so happy to find Marti's class. And I was not disappointed! Marti is kind and patient in her teaching. Her hands on approach allows everyone to touch the ingredients as well as participate in the preparation. Learning the family history of strudel making helps bring it even more alive! It reminded me of the stories Dad told us of his mom while growing up. The instructions were easy to follow, the ingredients basic to find, and Marti's guidance made it easy to do. The strudel was amazing - both the aroma while baking and the taste when done. And by the time I got back to my apartment I had received an email with an assortment of recipes for different strudels to make at home. From start to finish the experience was wonderful! Marti is a beautiful host! From homemade soft drinks, an experienced and informative hands on tutorial, Hungarian wine and snacks, to enjoying the finished product, every moment is delicious and fun! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn more about the Hungarian culture and it's foods! Definitely a bucket list moment in my life! Thank you Marti!
One of the most enjoyable things we've ever done in Budapest. We go to Budapest at least twice a year and always look for new things to do. We attended the strudel making class. Marti shared with us her grandmother's recipe and old-world style of making traditional strudel, along with interesting anecdotal stories of Hungarian family life past and present. It was a fabulous evening! Highly recommended.
This was so fun, interesting and yummy!! The wine and appetizers were delicious, learned about the different Paprikas. Then got to learn about the background of strudel and all the different fillings you can use, not just the ones we made. The best part was just talking with our hostess/teacher. She is lovely, informative and so welcoming. And BTW - the strudel came out GREAT. Just don't do it the last night of your trip so you can have leftovers!! Thoroughly enjoyed.
This was the best experience of our trip! WE LOVE IT. Marti welcomed us into her kitchen as if we were entering her home as her own family! She was a wealth of information about the area, her culture and of course cooking! She was so accomodating, warm and personable! I just can't recommend this experience enough! If you are in Budapest this is a must do!
Marti was so welcoming and shared her childhood experiences baking with her mother. Loved the hands on experience and the food was yummy! Thank you Marti!
This was an amazing experience! Marti was so patient and informative as she taught us how to make strudel from scratch. It was a fun and relaxing experience with tasty snacks along with special drinks. And the best part of all was learning how to stretch dough into a gigantic sheet across the table and add the ingredients roll up and bake. Even better we get To eat our creation. I highly recommend this as an activity when you were in Budapest. You will not regret it! It might be the highlight of our trip. Thank you, Marti!!
Marti was exceptional. She was patient and helped the family including a child learn how to make a strudel. Great lesson, great atmosphere. The best!
When traveling to a new place it is always fun to experience the culture authentically by someone who is an expert. This is the activity to get a taste of true Hungry. Marty the host was very welcoming, patient and informative. You can hear the joy in her voice and words as she instructs you on the art of making strudel and shares her history with it. This is hands on and everyone gets to participate. While, I have had strudel previously -- I did not know a lot about how it is made. When I saw pictures of the dough stretched to it's limit -- I wanted to see that first hand. The experience from start to finish was amazing. It is for all ages. The strudel was outstanding! Don't think twice -- just sign up! You won't be disappointed.
I remember my Hungarian grandmother making strudel and hand stretching the dough as a young child. I wanted to relive that experience since she is no longer here to teach me herself. This was a wonderful class with Marti that our family was able to participate in and enjoy. The strudel making experience brought back so many memories which I can now share at home.
What a wonderful experience! We had a great time with Marti. The kitchen was very clean and we had so much fun learning about the Hungarian dishes and drinks. I would recommend for any age!
If you’re looking for a low key but fun experience in Budapest I recommend taking this strudel making class. Marti is a wonderful host, she told us about life in Budapest, treated us to wonderful drinks & snacks & taught us how to make strudel. Well worth the cost to have a break from sightseeing & learn a new skill with lovely people.
Apologies for how long this took me to write! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Budapest in Dec 2023. I scheduled the class on my birthday as a treat. The other couple unfortunately had to cancel but Marti still hosted the class because of my birthday! That was very nice and much appreciated Marti. We choose the sour cherry and cabbage strudel to make. It was so much fun making it and the food was very good. We both loved the cabbage the best. My husband does not bake but after was so excited to try it at home! Thank you very much for an awesome class! We would definitely recommend the class to those interested.
Our host Marti communicated well providing directions and information ahead. Our group of six included spouses. Marti greeted us with lovely drinks, was gracious, organized, efficient, and so very kind. Her apartment & kitchen were large, immaculate, comfortable, and specifically designed for these classes. She walked us through every step, told stories of cooking with her mom, and insisted we all engage in hands-on involvement. While our creations cooked Marti provided a delicious charcuterie board and wine. It was fun, we learned, and the end products were delicious.....even the husbands enjoyed themselves! Marti sent the recipe to us later....she is the ultimate gracious host and an expert in hospitality! We highly recommend to anyone visiting Budapest....well worth your time!! Thank you Marti!
We LOVED our strudel class! Marti was a great host and teacher. We really enjoyed learning how to make the strudel and the history behind it. It didn’t hurt that the strudel was delicious too. We highly recommend this class!
We had a fun time making strudel with Marti. She was a fantastic teacher and host and told us all of the local tips and tricks. We made a lot of strudel and also had some tasty local bites and delicious wine.
Such a lovely experience learning to make savory and sweet strudel from Marti. She was such a pleasure to learn from. Kind, patient, and very knowledgable. I appreciated that she gave us alternative ingredient suggestions for when he decide to make strudel at home ourselves. Loved trying the homemade fruit sparkling water, wine, and traditional snacks as we waited for the strudel to bake. Marti continuously cleaned up after us throughout the whole process too. She is so kind and organized! Highly recommend this for a special and memorable experience, whether you are a baker or not!
Marti was so kind and knowledgable! She made this class heaps of fun for us! The snacks and drinks were delicious and she helped us make our own strudel from scratch using her mums recipe! Definitely worth stopping by if you have the time.
What an enjoyable, fun experience and evening we had! Marti was such a generous, interesting, informative and fun host! It was a highlight on our trip in Budapest!
We ended up having the cooking class to ourselves and it was so intimate and welcoming. The chef had us in her home and made snacks and juice for us. I have a lot of allergies and was determined to not explore the different Strudel options. I'm glad we were convinced to do a savory and a sweet Strudel. It was soooo much food! The whole process felt very rewarding. I'd definitely recommend for anyone who wants to try something new and unique.
The strudel class was excellent. Everyone was involved. The teacher was engaging. Prior to arriving she let us choose two types of strudel from 4 options to make. She provided very clear and instructions on where to go and had a great kitchen set up for the class. The strudel we made was delicious along with the drinks and snacks she provided as well. I would take any cooking class with her again.
The Strudel class with Marta is one of the highlights of our trip. An absolutely lovely lady with lots of cooking skills she happily passes on.This is a hands on class with eating the finished product as well as other hungarian delights and wine. Thankyou Marta John and Linda
This was an incredible experience and a fun group activity. We got to be hands on making two strudels of our choice. We chose one savory and one sweet. It was a great way to cap off our foodie day in Budapest and left very satisfied. I highly recommend this experience.
I loved every moment! Marti’s warmth, expertise, hospitality and willingness to answer our many questions made this experience special. I cannot recommend highly enough!! Also, everything was delicious and her kitchen beautiful!
I was surprised by how much the dough could stretch! I loved the chef’s attention to detail and how she walked us through each step and why. The class was focused yet relaxed. The snacks and strudel were to die for! I appreciate all the tips for local cuisine!
Super fun activity to get into the spirit of Budapest. Our host Marti was a wonderful instructor and a warm and welcoming host. My wife and I enjoyed both making and eating items, along with other Hungarian treats and drinks provided. Marti is a warm and gracious host(ess) and we would surely recommend this to friends and family. We're not expert chef's but this was not intimidating though we got to do most of the work while enjoying both Marti's company and that of the other participants in our small group. This personal human-to-human event was a real highlight of our trip. And the food was great!
A must do in Budapest! We made the apple and the poppyseed strudel and they were both absolutely delicious! Marti is a wonderful chef as well as wonderful company. Will be back for more! Thank you again, Marti!
This class was such a fun and unique way to experience the culture and local cuisine of Budapest/Hungary! Marti was so fun and engaging and patient with us as we learned how to stretch strudel and mix the toppings. She was eager to share her experience and give tips. In addition to the strudel, she also provided snacks and beverages for us which were delicious. This was definitely a highlight of our time in Budapest.
Learn to make strudel the authentic way with a chef who has farm-to-table experience. As a repeat customer from her dinner/market experience (highly recommend!), I loved Chef Marti’s approach in helping take the mystery out of this delicious treat. We worked together on every step and she shared practical tips. Her charming cooking studio/chef’s kitchen added to this fun morning that resulted in two exquisitely delicate and delicious strudels. This class will remain one of my favorite memories of Budapest. My husband agreed the resulting strudel surpassed any we had tasted to date! Treat yourself!
