Very interesting and rewarding tour - Nick gave us a lot of insight into Hungarian history and culture as we walked through parts of the city on both sides of the river, and we had a lively and deep conversation going on all the way.

Budapest's stunning Great Synagogue is Europe's largest Jewish house of worship, and the 3rd largest in the whole world after Jerusalem (opened in 2019) and New York City.
Budapest’s neoclassical cathedral is the most sacred Catholic church in all of Hungary and contains its most revered relic: the mummified right hand of the church’s patron, King St Stephen.
The Chain Bridge was the first permanent stone-bridge connecting Pest and Buda and is one of the symbolic structures of Budapest.

Excellent as a private tour at our pace ! Highly recommended it accessible to Everyone tailored by the guide
Nick was an extraordinary tour guide giving detail and insights tailored to what I desired from the tour. I was profoundly affected. Surpassed all expectations!
Gabor was, excellent!! He was very knowledgeable and really listened to what we were interested in and tailored our tour to make sure we saw and learned so much. He was very organized and efficient with our time. At no point did we ever feel rushed, but what we got to see and do far exceeded our expectations for a half-day tour. Would highly recommend!!
Excellent tour with a highly knowledgeable guide. Many sites visited and associated history discussed in detail. Covered a large area of Budapest. Would consider taking again, if I return.
Obviously fact finding, history of Budapest. It was great to have a small group. However, the guide didn’t take control. He kept saying it’s up to us. We’re not the experts though. Sometimes was difficult to understand.
Claudia was a fantastic guide for our inquisitive group of 4. She has vast knowledge and showed us some cool stuff that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Andras. He is knowledgeable, genuine, and very accommodating to our interests. It’s a very comfortable 3 hour walk and learning experience so we feel to much closer to the city of Budapest. This is the kind of experience that makes us want to come back!
Very well-paced and informative. Nice open discussions and very friendly. Dalma made us feel like we spent time getting to know a real Hungarian and what her life in Budapest was like.
Claudia was fantastic! She gave us a very personal, unique, & informative 3 hour tour of Budapest. We appreciated her in depth knowledge of the history of Budapest & her flexibility of requested tour sights.
István is very accommodating (we were supposed to meet at Hero Square but we got lost. However, István came to where we were), very knowledgeable (re: history of Hungary) and generous (he bought Chimney cake)
We booked a tour for May, after reaching out 1 week before we found out our guide was unavailable therefore we had to cancel and incurred a currency fee on our credit card as you can’t rebook for same day and time on Withlocals website. We booked with Dalma who was late as she didn’t know it would be busy on a public holiday. She showed us the main sights that you could probably see in a free walking tour, we didn’t get to see to many hidden gems, didn’t get the included treat or drink although she falsely claimed we got chimney cake. What was included was claims of nameless multinational companies wanting everyone to get diabetes, the 7 powerful families and other things you find in rabbit holes on the internet. We did get to go to a cafe and order drinks and dessert that we paid for and we also had the honour of paying for hers! At the end she sent her business card to me so that if we or our friends wanted any more tours we could bypass with locals and save money! When I reached out with locals they told me after emails were exchanged that I should reach out to Dalma as she said I was mistaken???? I pay them a fee so they deal with problem guides I thought. It’s unfortunate as I had four good experiences with this company
We had already been in Budapest for a couple of days so Claudia tailored the visit around what we hadn't yet seen. She was terrific!!
Agnes was a fantastic guide, knew everything and has a great knowledge of all kinds of historic events. She gives you options to address individual request / preferences. Can only recommend doing a tour with her.
We were very excited to visit Budapest. And our tour with Dalma was the best way to get a terrific overview of the city, the history, the highlights and the streets. She had so much information to share and presented it in such an easy conversational manner. We can't say enough good things about the experience... except that you should try it! Ask for Dalma..... her passion and personality were a difference maker!!!!
This experience will very much depend upon the guide you end up with. We fell unlucky and were very disappointed with the lack of historical knowledge of the guide, he basically walked us around , provided minimal information and couldn’t answer basic questions. It was meant to be a 3hr walk, it was over in 2.5hrs and the advertised local snack or drink that was supposed to be included was not forthcoming. Only covered Pest, didn’t go near or cover Buda. The guide showed no enthusiasm for Budapest and it just seemed an easy money making exercise for him. Have previously had great guides in other cities, so having paid a lot of money for a private guide we were left feeling very short changed and extremely disappointed. We would have covered the areas visited ourselves with a map and having our guide added no value.
My fiancé and I absolutely loved this tour. We saw and learned about several places we probably would not have seen without this tour. Our guide, Emoke, was great!! She was personable, interactive and extremely knowledgeable about the city of Budapest and Hungary overall. Highly recommend!
Nick’s personal touch to the tour and his photography skills was top notch :) He was flexible and allowed us to tailor our needs after his input on what’s planned initially . With personal anecdotes to share along the way, it piqued our interest from beginning to end! Last but not least don’t forget to include some local delights along the way! That was an eye opener and totally necessary if you are new to the country!
This was beyond amazing and helpful. I booked this for my first night in town and it gave me a great overview of Budapest. Highly recommend this trip. Nicholas was very informative and accommodating.
The Jewish Quarter was memorable as was the off the beaten track buildings and sites. Andras was excellent at giving us needed context.
It was really great getting to know Dalma and the rich understanding and knowledge that she had about every location that we visited. We just wish that we had a few minutes to make it to the bank of Danube to get a quick introduction to what we see on the hill on the Buda side.
My daughter and I did this on our arrival day in Budapest. Andres met us at our Airbnb, and he provided us with a perfect orientation walking tour of Pest that was tailored to our needs. I’d highly recommend him as a guide.
Good tour guide was very knowledgeable. Budapest is a big city I wish this tour would have been longer.
Istavan was absolutely wonderful. Very knowledgeable and adjusted our expert to us. He was flexible in picking us up by foot at our hotel which was really nice. We learned a ton from Istavan and would highly recommend this tour. We had a day full of rain, but we didn’t let us bother us.
Nick was an awesome tour guide! He was really informative and showed us some really cool sites around Budapest. It was a fun experience!
I highly recommend doing this tour. I got to have an overview of what Budapest is all about. I had booked it because I didn’t have a lot of time, thereafter I could choose the places I wanted to go back to. However I feel that it is still worth doing irrespective of the time you have. I was exposed to the culture, history, hidden sights, food markets and so much more. Tiberius, who was my tour guide was very well informed and overall quite pleasant and was always eager to answer any questions that I had.
Delightful guide! Very knowledgeable and personal. Wish we could have her as a tour guide again.,..................................
The sites and structures of Budapest are easy to admire. You will be leaving behind the opportunity to learn the history and politics of the region if you don’t take this tour. Andras my tour guide is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Hungary and went out of the way to cater to my interests. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest
A very interesting day. I particularly liked that Stephen mixed in several stories about his own family’s history in Hungary, including his grandmother’s memories of WWII and socialism. Highly recommended.
Our guide knew lots of history which we were interested in. We had already been to a few places in Budapest so he totally tailored the tour to what we hadn’t seen and our interests.
Our guide , Claudia, was amazing! We saw areas of Budapest that we never would have found on our own. Seeing the inside of the Opera House when a couple of the singers we’re performing was incredible. Also, touring the quirky Ruins Bar was fun. We learned so much about the history and culture. It was a great tour!
Andras was amazing. We are visiting multiple countries and his tour has been the high point of our trip. On a scale of 1 to 5 we would give him a 20. He is a very charming, knowledgeable, interesting young man
Tour guide Andras was great. It was just my dad and I. We went to Vienna, Budapest, Brussels and Paris. Budapest has been the highlight of our trip all thanks so our guide Andras! Thank you!
The was not as described. The 4 hour tour was 3 hours and we were supposed to see the Parliament building and go over to Buda to see sights there but none of this happened. We had 3 hours in Pest which was really interesting but not what we expected. Overpriced and disappointing.
On the morning of our tour we were running late so I called in to inform them. The lady on the other end of the line told me to simply call our tour guide Agnes and let her know. So we called Agnes but she didn’t pick up initially, however when we got to the meeting point at Heroes Square she finally picked but told me that her colleague, Kinga, would be the one taking us on the tour. Kinga is a very nice and polite lady who has clearly done her fair share of traveling the world and it was wonderful conversing with her and sharing experiences. However I strongly believe this is the first time Kinga was handling this tour. First was the fact that our tour guide was meant to be Agnes, but we were then told by Agnes that her ‘colleague’ would be taking the tour. I checked every other single review before to see if Kinga’s name came up and it didn’t. Secondly, Kinga had remarked that she was only expecting two of us, not four. I reconfirmed it was four after which she asked how much I had paid for the tour. That alone made me realize there was something amiss with the whole arrangement. I began to suspect that Agnes was not able to make it and at the last minute told a friend to cover for her. Don’t get me wrong I actually really like Kinga as a person but as the tour progressed it became clear that this isn’t what she should be doing or at least this isn’t tour she should be handling. From the start we spent too long at Heroes square (almost a good 40 minutes); a lot of that information could have been distilled and rendered in a sharper and more interesting manner. She never seemed to know where we were going next and kept making suggestions without giving us options. The first hour of the tour was really a drag but we just played along because like I said she’s honestly a really nice person. However once I realized that she wasn’t saying anything about the destinations mentioned in the tour description I started asking more questions and told her that we wouldn’t mind if we walked a bit faster so that we could cover more ground. In the end Heroes Square and Andrassy Avenue were the highlights of the tour. While on Andrassy she suggested the House of Terror which is definitely worth visiting, but by that time she really had lost me and I honestly wanted the tour to finish. Kinga was well mannered and warm, however the tour lacked structure and she wasn’t as engaging as we would have hoped, especially when it was regarding the attractions and the history behind them. There were no snacks as advertised and many of the sights were excluded from our tour. Hopefully it seems like our experience was just a one-off.
The tour guide, Gabor, made the tour memorable in every way. History, architecture, anecdotes. He made for a very enjoyable day.
We had quite an enlightened tour with Gabor! So very knowledgeable & he catered the tour to our interests & needs. I’d definitely recommend this tour & him especially.
Agnes was incredibly knowledgeable, and a true delight. We spent 3 hours learning about the beautiful and historic city of Budapest. The day was perfect and the tour was truly enlightening. I strongly recommend a private tour AND if you get Agnes you are VERY fortunate.
My husband and I had a terrific day with Nelli. She’s a very personable guide with great energy and enthusiasm. If you have a tour with Nelli - you have struck gold! So much fun - so much information shared about Budapest. We felt like we were hanging out with a friend from the start. We toured both sides of the river and had a wonderful lunch together. Nelli can show you everything you would want to see and do in Budapest!
This is an amazing tour and we’ll worth the time. They will tailor it to fit what you like -history, architecture, culture, etc. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the city and the history of Budapest and Hungary, it was an amazing afternoon. Highly recommend!!
Great tour, our guide, Nichols was very knowledgeable and explained Budapest history in a very relevant manner. Great value for money
Bea was an awesome guide. It was just three of us, so it was quite fun and friendly and we all got to know each other a bit. She was really sweet and tweaked the tour to our liking and interests. Totally would recommend this and her specifically.
We spent a most enjoyable 4 hours with Nicholas learning about Budapest’s WWII and post WWII history. Great guide knowledgeable , friendly, relaxed and flexible highly recommendable for a personalized tour.
We decided to split our tour into 2 days as advised by Beata. She took the time to get to know us and prepare a customised itinerary, but also was willing to accommodate changes we requested along the way. Beata knows her city very well and showed us some of her hidden gems. A perfect start to our Euro tour. My wife and I highly recommend Beata. We left BP very satisfied with our new found friend. Beata was our first experience of a private tour guide. She set the bar very high and in fact turned out to be the best of the 3 guides we used on our Euro tour.
Emoke provided a great tour and was very flxible in meeting my requirements and interest! Very knowledgeable about Budapest and Hungary! Will go on ant other tour with her in a heartbeat!
Nicholas was really an exceptional guide and his English was perfect. We have rarely seen such devotion and enthusiasm for one's city as Nicholas had. He was open, frank, and so sincere about his city of Budapest and explaining to us its incredible history. His descriptions and understanding went well beyond memorized facts---they were personal experiences as well as personal histories that he shared with us as a way to really get us to understand the history of the city and its people. He had tremendous patience with our children as well and was eager to show us the sites and taste the foods which we, including our children, would most enjoy. This was a beautiful day in Budapest and to understand such a vibrant and complex city, we are grateful to have had Nicholas to guide the way :)
Worth every penny as Beata was more than happy to take a tour that suited us depending on what we had seen before amd our interests. Knowledgeable, friendly, and excellent English. Totally recommend her.
Andras provided an informative and interesting trip around the city. Although it was a walking tour, we used the Metro system to cover larger distances. stopped into a local housing building to see contrast between restored and unrestored buildings...side-by-side. enjoyed a break in a very small cafe with courtyard that just accommodated our group of 8. Andras was very knowledgeable of history, architecture and current events. He seemed very proud of the city.
Our group was 3 couples ages 70ish and were very fortunate to pick Beata for personalized tour of Budapest. She was extremely flexible to our wants and needs. We were early to Budapest for a Viking river cruise and didn't want to duplicate their excursions. She was very knowledgeable of the city and the complex Hungarian history. We had so much fun and Bea provided special memories for us. We learned a lot. I would not hesitate to "be" with Bea again! Egészségére!!!
When we travel, we often rely on websites and/or suggestions of friends and family who have been there before. But taking this tour reminded me why tours are necessary to begin with - you can do-it-yourself to a degree but there is nothing like local knowledge when it comes to getting to know a place. Andras was our guide in a very interesting, informative and fun walking tour of Budapest. He was born, raised and still lives in Budapest and well informed about the city. We started at the Hero’s Square and then walked to the Széchenyi Baths, the Liszt Music Academy, passed through a Viennese old world cafe, stopped in the Opera House (which is under renovation), the Jewish District where we were able to see a section of the original Jewish Ghetto wall. We passed by the Dohány Synagogue and walked along the Danube River to see the Little Princess and Shoes sculptures. Finally, we ended at the Parliament. Everything we saw underscored the history, pride and beautiful achievements of the Hungarian people. Andras was a gracious and accommodating host - smoothly modifying the agenda to suit our wishes. He helped us appreciate the past and the present of Hungary in a very personal and engaging way. And notably, took us to places we would never have found on our own. I would highly recommend this tour and especially Andras.
