The experience was amazing. The pick up and drop off were very inconvenient; out of five guests we had to walk to pick up 1.85 miles and our drop off was 1.5 miles while the other 3 guests were picked up and dropped off at their hotels and we were staying at the BEM on the Buda side of the river which was the same side as the tour.

This tour was so enjoyable. The countryside is beautiful and Etyek is very charming. Our tour guide Micheal was exceptional and made the experience great ! We had lunch at a quaint I yard and the family cooked for us a homemade venison stew that was delicious.
Fantastic and intimate wine tour in the Hungarian countryside. The wine makers were so welcoming and their wines definitely hold their own against other European wines. The traditional Hungarian lunch was delicious and each course was perfectly paired with their wines. Highly, highly recommend!
Good experience , travel guide was excellent. Most of the wine was very dry. Interesting going to 3 different wineries and the differences in each. The dinner was very good
Our guide, Peter was very knowledgable and spoke fluent English throughout the journey. Had some lovely local wines and met the owners of 2 beautiful vineyards. Took the half day tour that started at 10am. Still had plenty of time to roam in the city after. A must do tour for wine lovers!
Amazing wine tasting in Eytek! We were driven by van to 2 small, family owned wineries. The drivers/guides were knowledgeable about the area and friendly. The first tasting was literally done IN the wine cellar. We even got to taste wine right from the barrel-very cool! The 2nd winery was also nice. The owner's wife prepared a delicious lunch for us while tasting the wine. If you enjoy wine, this is the tour for you.
A sun-filled morning found us boarding a van for a small group tour offered by City & Wine Tours. We chose a half-day tour in Etyek, west of Budapest. Right on time at the pickup point, Peter pulled up in the City & Wine van, which is hard to miss. From the very first moment, we knew Peter would be a great guide for the day. He is witty, engaging, and has a slight sardonic edge. After picking up the other folks, a total of eight guests, Peter expertly navigated a film crew at the Opera House and Saturday tourist traffic through the city, and we quickly found ourselves at our first "wine workshop" in charming Etyek. Honestly, this small winery, Nádas Borműhely, looked like a house in a residential neighborhood with some nice tables set up in the side yard. As we all know, looks can be deceiving. Upon meeting our host, Esther, we quickly fell under both her spell and the wine's. The tasting consisted of four rounds of wine. Esther provided a choice of wines for each round, allowing each guest to choose one to taste after her ample and complete descriptions of the wine, the grapes used, and the process employed. For couples, it was nice to each pick one and try both. The excellent wines paired beautifully with our charming host, making our stay and tasting so very memorable. It is a challenge to provide such robust information in a language that is not your native language. To do so with warmth, charm, and humor is at a different level. All of the wines were very good and made in small production numbers. Our favorite was the Öreghegyi 24, a very drinkable, light, all-afternoon white wine, steel aged, made from 100% Victoria Pearl grapes. The best pairing match-up was the Cimbi ("buddy") wine: a Hungarian oak aged, 100% pinot gris wine where the skins had been left in the juice briefly, giving the wine a light pink hue. This was up against the Vagi Mi ("so what?") wine: also a Hungarian oak aged, 100% pinot gris, but this one was fermented with the skins for a full seven days using orange wine technology. Tough call, but for us... so what? for the win. Next up, and only minutes away, was Zoad Wine. This winery was hosted by the owner and winemaker, Zoltán Szűcs, who did not speak English but communicated his love of winemaking and his wines with his tone and a sparkle in his eyes, plus an assist through translation by Peter. We had four tastings here as well: two blends and two single varietals. The first wine, Together Again, was our favorite, a blend of Chardonnay, pinot gris, and King's daughter grapes. A very elegant white blend that would pair endlessly with foods. The runner-up was the Baby Rose, a light pink pinot noir rosé. A simple and delicious Hungarian lunch was served in the middle of the wine tasting: toasted pasta with a pork stew in a rice paprika broth. As is the norm, it was served with a side of pickled vegetables. Simple, straightforward, good local food, the type you would expect while visiting a friend's home. Lunch was followed by a dessert of ground chestnuts mixed with sugar and rum and pressed through what we assume was a ricer, topped with whipped cream. Very tasty. We returned to Budapest with nice memories of the small, lovely wine region of Etyek.
Nice wine tour to 2 small family owned wineries. Wine was surprisingly good for a couple who lives In Northern CAwine country. Guide was well versed in local history as well.
The 10am tour took me to 2 wine houses. We got to taste wine from the barrel for the red sample at Visi. The second place served us lunch which was pork crepes and small flaky pastries for dessert. 8 tastes in all. A short drive from Budapest and the wines were lovely. Peter, our tour guide/driver, was personable and kind.
We visited 2 very nice Wineries. First the modern Optimus winery with a surprising Pinot noir, beside excellent white and sparkling wine. Second winery was Debrezeni, were the combined lunch with the wine degustation, which was excellence. Our guide was well informed and informed about interesting facts of the wine region.
This is a very good tour to attend. It is well worth the fee. Ypu get to meet in person the owners of 3 wineries. At the last one you get a meal. The wines that uou sample are good to very good. Oir group had much fun.
A lot of fun! Smaller, intimate tour of local winemakers' operations. Prompt pick up, short commute to and from sites, and great personal touches from the wine/snacks/meal provided with the local winemakers. Definitely recommend.
We drank alot of terrific wine, made some new friends and had a terrific evening! Would highly recommend if you enjoy wine!!
We love wine and wanted to try some Hungarian wines and get out into the countryside. This tour was fantastic! We had many locations to choose from for pick up points and were picked up promptly. Our tour guide, Julianna, was so warm and welcoming making sure each person was included. We went to three different wineries in a small village outside Budapest. Each one explained their process and gave us wines to taste. Our dinner at the last home was simple but delicious. I highly recommend this wine tour.
A very enjoyable night. Susan was terrific. She provided commentary about Hungary as she drove us to the wineries. She and the winemakers were very nice. The dinner and wines were delicious. We had a great evening and are so glad we chose this wine tour.
Absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. We loved our guide and the people that hosted the tastings were so friendly and knowledgeable. It was absolutely worth the money.
We don't drink alcohol much, but we attended this tour to experience Hangarian wine. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and witty. We experienced different wines and we enjoyed them all.
It's a very nice trip. Our driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. She made the day the day nice
Our guide was Phillip. He was wonderful and so much fun. Each vineyard was so pretty and our lunch was delicious. It was a perfect day !
Michael our guide was funny, knowledgeable and attentive to our group of 16. Vineyards visited provided an excellent overview of their history, production and samplings of their products. Lunch was more than ample of the local Hungarian cuisine and the vegetarian option was absolutely fantastic.
Thomas, our guide was very informative and the experience was very good! I would highly recommend. We were able to see the Hungarian countryside which is much different than Budapest.
The three wineries were unique with the owner or family members leading the tastings in each. We enjoyed the diversity of wines we were able to try. The settings also were lovely. Shout out to our guide (Livya?) who arranged a vegan meal for me. Thanks! All was perfect and the others on the tour were very fun, as well.
Terrific experience with Susan as our driver and guide to 3 wineries and dinner in the countryside out of Budapest. Very good wines and delicious traditional meal. This tour was well worth the cost for a historical, cultural and culinary experience.
We had so much fun. Our guide was very good. She was very informative and interesting. Would recommend this tour.
We did the 1/2 day wine tour to Etyek, picked up at the Hungarian opera house which was super convenient. The tour was fantastic, the 2 small family owned wineries we visited served very good Hungarian wines, mostly white wines. Our tour guide was so pleasant and knowledgeable; she gave us the history of the area and the wineries we visited. We had a wonderful lunch at the second winery, I believe it was cheese and venison sausage, pörkölt and tarhonya and a delightful cake for dessert. All was so delicious, including the wine. The area is breathtaking. We were so happy to have seen this gorgeous place in Hungary! This tour is an incredible experience. We look forward to going back to Hungary for more wine tours!
Wonderful tour! Juliana was a spectacular guide. We visited 3 different family-owned wineries, enjoyed sampling the different wines of the region and had a delicious dinner at our last stop. Would highly recommend if you like wine and want a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of Budapest.
A very enjoyable time with an informative guide. Loved the 2 wineries and the tasting along with lunch!
We had a great time. Our guide was a lot of fun and really tried to get the interaction going by telling us some stuff but also asking questions. The wines we tested were mostly white, which is predominantly what is grown in this region... sone were good and some were not so good, which has to be expected when tasting 12 different wines. The second winery was our favorite... you enter into a small home and then go into a bricked cellar with a long table... so cool.
Miki drove us out into the countryside in a comfortable van to tour these very unusual and interesting underground, family-owned small wine cellars and do multiple tastings. The scenery was beautiful and we learned a lot about the various Hungarian wine-making regions, tasted some great wine and local snacks, and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon.
Fantastic day with Juliana. Got to see some of the Hungarian countryside and try some wine and delicious food. She was one of the best guides we have had thus far, very informative and engaging. Glad we did this!
Brilliant tour. Great guide imparting interesting information. Lovely food and of course good wine. Charlie's place is great.
Interesting tour. We learned about Hungary's history and its effect on wine growing.
Had a wonderful wine tasting afternoon, visited some beautiful countryside, tasted great wines had some delicious homecooked food and met a lovely group of people. Our guide was so lovely very knowledgeable spoke excellent English 5☆
A very intimate and personal wine tasting experience with true Hungarian authenticity. Our guide, Peter, was gracious, intelligent, and accommodating. He made the experience come alive.
Overall great trip and Peter was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would say the wines were ok but the experience was amazing knowing the real old school way!
Susan was our guide and she was excellent. She gave us a detailed wine history of the area. She took us to 3 wineries where we sampled multiple local wines at each. The first winery was the best because it was in an actual cellar dating back to the late 1700’s. The other two wineries were neat also because they had stunning views of the countryside.
Lovely experience. Highly recommend. Our guide was knowledgeable and we met the local families who own the wineries. Food was delicious and authentic! Very satisfying day!
Disappointed not picked up from hotel & drop back to hotel. Was not contacted about minor delay in pickup time due to van probelm. Peter the tour leader was good to explain the wines.
This is a great half day tour of two wineries at Etyek, a short drive from Budapest. Our tour guide was excellent - she gave us lots of background information about the Hungarian wine industry and coordinated the tour well. The two wineries were close in distance but had different approaches - both owners gave excellent commentary. The wines were all enjoyable and the lunch was great. Highly recommend this tour.
It's a good tour and the tour guide and driver were very nice. The only issue encountered was that we were the last hotel pickup and as a result, sat all the way in the last row of the van, which was both uncomfortable and bumpy. We spoke with the guide and she managed to get someone to swap seats and found us more comfortable seats at the front of the van. The overall experience of the tour was good. If we book this kind of tour again, we'd consider a private tour or a tour that offers seat selection in advance.
Great Guide, Very knowledgeable and helpfull I rated this a 4 because the Wine Tour was all White wines. The distription should have mentioned this for all of us red wine drinkers
We had a wonderful wine tasting trip. Peter was a fantastic guide. The wineries were very small, located in a village about 40 minutes from the city. At each of the wineries the host created a very relaxing atmostphere and was very knowledgeable about the wines. At the final winery we had dinner, overlooking the countryside. It was so nice to do this tour in a local area that did not feel overrun by tourists and to try wine that was really good. Thank you to Peter for making such a memorable afternoon.
Peter was a great guide and driver - knowledgeable about wine and the Hungarian wine regions - took great care of tge group
Tour guide is a star of the show. She is pleasant, attentive, experienced- constantly checking on each of us with stories to tell and stories to listen to. All three venues gave us the best experience: atmosphere, authenticity, warmth and hospitality were everything we were looking for. Group was small - 12 people. We made friends along the way. Highly recommend for anyone who looks for unique and heartwarming experience!
Small group experience with Peter our guide. Brought us to the country side in Buda to visit three wineries. The first was extremely charming and we sat underground in the wine cellar and samples 4 very good wines with generous tasting, Next we went to an actual winery outide to sample some of the best wines I tasted of the day. Finished at a private home with more wine and prepared dinner . Returned back to our hotel. Total trip was about 5 1/2 hours and thoroghly enjoyable and Peter was an excellent and knowlegable guide
Very nice 4.5 hours tour. We were a small group of 8 people. The ride was comfortable and it took us less than 1 hour to get there. We visited 2 wineries and tasted 4 wines at each and had a meal at the 2nd. The only downside is that they don't show you their installations, explain their process or see their vineyards. Our guide was very nice and answered all our questions.
My husband had a great time, unfortunately I got sick and could not attend. But he loved the experience!
Wonderful tour. Great guide and great group. We all enjoyed the day together. Tasted wonderful local wines sourced from the local hills
Julianna was a fantastic tour guide, taking us to three tiny, local wineries/vineyards in Etyek, about 30-60 mins west of Budapest. The three stops were great, and showcased the history of winemaking in Hungarian history and culture, while also being very unique takes on various grape varieties, made for local use only. This tour was a real treat, and definitely recommended for those you like unique, small batch wines, cozy caves, and great company.
Picked up out museum conveniently situated easy to find , Went to Budapest in 2025 my tour was a magnificent because of these guys my experience we had a glorious day mandering off from pest to buda in the van. History conversation as we drove out on town was very interesting We had 8 people on board, couples and singles we thoroughly enjoyed the tastings and the best liver pate at the first wine stop with the elderly gentlemans homestead. then off to get some Fizz up at the Optimus village was gorgeous setting looking back over the fields so Lush! Gorgeous night as we had a home cooked dinner drank and ate goulash as the sunset! Spectacular views wholesome food great tour guides very nice guys well spoken hosts dropped off individually with care to our hotels end of the night did not want it to end!
