The guide was organized and very conscientious in his efforts. The guide was very thoughtful. A wine should have been included with the main without additional charge. The soup was good.

Itinerary
Hungarian cuisine carries rich traces of Jewish heritage, reflecting centuries of resilience and tradition. To explore this cultural connection, our tour kicks off at a synagogue, where an expert guide will give a brief introduction before the flavours of Budapest unfold.
Next, we’ll dive deeper into Jewish influences on Hungarian cuisine as we wander through District 7, a historic Jewish neighbourhood home to Europe’s largest synagogue. Today, it buzzes with vibrant nightlife, dotted with famous “ruin bars” and trendy restaurants—Instagram-worthy spots that still honour the area’s Jewish roots. Your local guide will lead you through the streets, sharing the history and its connection to Hungarian flavours, before you sample authentic street food. No need for utensils, just bring curiosity and an appetite! You’ll eat like a local on the go before settling in for a few sit-down tastings.
Next, we’ll step into Budapest’s glossier side, wandering its most upscale streets. You’ll stop at charming, atmospheric restaurants to taste classic Hungarian dishes, soaking in the city’s stylish vibe. The tour wraps up on a sweet note, giving you the perfect treat before heading off to enjoy the night with your new foodie friends!

We had a fantastic tour led by Agnes. She made it really fun, we learnt a lot and we met some other lovely people in our group. The food was really tasty and it was a perfect end to our Budapest trip. Thank you Agnes for making it so special
Good time with Agnes and others on tour
A brilliant experience! Beni was the perfect guide! He made the whole thing especially enjoyable.
Really good food tour. Learned a lot about Hungary and tasted traditional dishes. Agnes, tour guide was super knowledgeable and very helpful.
Guide was excellent and the food fantastic. They did not skimp on food or drink. Learned a lot from the guide.
Eszti was incredible! Best tour guide I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves food and wants an awesome tour!
Kitti and Laura are class. 10/10 heavy tour.
The tour and especially the guide Peter was fantastic! I highly recommend.
Agnes is the best Tour Guide I‘ve ever has! Be prepared to eat a lot! :)
Great explanations about food
Great tour guide and very nice experience. A lot of food so make sure to come hungry :)
We just finished our Central Budapest walking food tour with drinks by Carpe Diem Tours 6p-830pm. It was led by Beni, our native Hungarian guide, who was a pleasure. We all met at the Budapest Orthodox Synogogue on Kaczinsky St, which was within walking distance from our Anantera Hotel. First Beni, was punctual, likeable, and he broke the ice by asking everyone our favorite foods. We did an English speaking tour, and his English was perfect and he was easy to understand. He led us to several restaurants beginning with a traditional Hungarian soup and ending with dessert and traditional Tokaji wine, There was plenty of food-great value for price point. We tried a local lager, a traditional shot and a sweet wine. An optional upgraded beverage package was available for purchase. All of the dishes and drinks served were native Hungarian and he taught us a few key phrases along the way and pointed out some Ruin bars we should not miss! He gave bits of local history which was helpful. Our group was on the large side, 20, but all of the restaurants were accommodating and prepared for us. We all had a nice time meeting with other people from all parts of the world. It was a great experience all around and I can’t think of any negatives. Thank you Beni!
Laura was a spectacular guide, pointing out places of interest, historical highlights, and explaining the food and drink, all while speaking flawless English.
Peter was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable, communicative and happy to answer all questions. There were 8 of us on the tour and he took the time to speak to everyone and ensure we all had time to enjoy the food, drinks and ask questions. The food was fantastic and the right amount so we weren’t too full to enjoy it all! Great tour, great company and great value for money. Thank you!!
Greatest and most fun food tour ever! Budapest is a special city! Kelly and Kara were terrific tour guides! We Loved all the food , wine and beer - and making new friends! 👍👍
Kelly was a great guide. Super passionate about her love for Hungarian culinary and also shared some cool bits of the history and showed us some cool sports in town. Definitely recommend and was a great experience.
We had a great time! Benny was an amazing tour guide, knowledgeable, personable and fun to hang out with. I absolutely recommend this tour.
We had a great time trying local food and drinks. Agnes was a great host and we met a lovely bunch of people. I would recommend this tour
Great walking and food tour of Budapest. Agnes, our guide, was excellent. We had a small group of 12 with many countries represented so was fun to visit with everyone while enjoying and learning about Hungarian food. First course was soup, second was a traditional langos with choice of beverage, beer, cherry beer or wine. Next stop chicken papriska and a shot of Hungarian liquor and finally a delicious light cake and dessert wine. So much food! Everything was excellent.
Absolutely worth it! Agnes was a great guide.
Great food and some handy tips from the guide. Answered all our questions about the area. Well worth the money
great relaxed and informative tour that was run by Kelly. Easy pace and food was great catering to everyone differences (allergies)
All of the food and drinks were delicious, and Nika was even more amazing as a host! Highly recommend for your first night in Budapest
Excellent tour guide! Thank you!
Nikolette was a great guide. Full of fun, enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for Hungary and its food. Thank you
I’d highly recommend this tour, thanks to our amazing guide Peter. Friendly and engaging, he considered everyone’s dietary needs before setting off. The route was thoughtful and well planned, we visited areas of the city that we would never have found without him. As well as a food tour we learned about Budapest too, and Peter was more than happy to stay after the tour to answer any questions. The food was great - make sure you’re hungry - and there were drinks too. A great group as well from Stockholm, Montreal, Taiwan and Hong Kong, which made the whole tour a great experience.
Our guide, Kitti, was AMAZING and knowledgeable. It is obvious that she loves people and loves her job. In conjunction with taking us on a food tour, she was going above and beyond and gave us a Hungarian history lesson. I loved it! She was amazing with answering questions and she was warm and genuine. The food, however, had a lot to be desired. It didn’t feel like we received the amount of food and drinks that we paid for. Based on our experience, I would say that the entire food/drink experience that we received would have added up to about 30€ maximum, and I believe that that is pushing it. Kitti, you are an absolute gem, but the food fell far below my expectations!
Come hungry and ready to try some local foods! There is a lot of walking of course but sometimes it’s a bit fast so you may struggles to keep up.
Agnes was a great host but we got cheap small dishes for an expensive price.
Great guide, Agnes. Although the total tour price seemed expensive for the amount of food we got overall. Chicken paprikash which was the main course was a tiny portion.
Plenty food so arrive hungry. Kitti was a brilliant guide - so enthusiastic and her English was great
The food and drink were great and local. I found one dish bland, but appreciated having the authentic version. I was well accommodated as a vegetarian. Our guide, Kelly, was friendly and knowledgeable. She is both Hungarian and American, speaking fluently in both English and Hungarian. My only complaint is that with twenty people, this was hardly a small group, but it was still a very good time. I am six foot and eat a fair amount. I was not stuffed as I sometimes am at the end of a food tour, but had had plenty to eat. My spouse, Who eats less, had to be careful not to overdo it.
We arrived in Hungary for a short visit. My sister booked this food tour for our family to do while we are here and it was fantastic. Our tour guide, Peter, was very knowledgeable and personable. He taught us a lot of interesting facts about Hungary, some words to use while we are here, and brought us to some great spots to try some delicious food. I highly recommend doing this tour if you're in the area!! This was the highlight of my entire trip!!
The tour guide was wonderful. She was very informative and had a great personality who made the tour very enjoyable. The only thing I would mention is that if you were interested in going inside a synagogue, do not go on a Saturday.
This walking food tour was amazing. Eszti was an excellent guide who looked after everyone’s dietary needs, explained all the food and drinks to us, and created a really warm vibe for the group.
Our group of 5 enjoyed a great food tour with our guide, Peter. Local food and drink, mixed with culture and history and friendly group, what could be better? The 4 food stops were well thought out and well spaced and left us very satisfied.
Great evening tour! It was a small group of seven (two couples and three solo travelers), which made the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. The tour was informative, well-paced, and a great way to explore Budapest without feeling rushed. Eszti was a wonderful host - friendly, quick-witted, intelligent, and with a great sense of humor. She made everyone feel welcome and kept the evening engaging from start to finish. P.S. Don't forget to ask Eszti about her mom's "special lángos"! 😉
Our guide was very good and individually we would give her four stars so that wasn’t the problem. Issue 1 was we paid for a small group tour. 18 very nice folks showed up. Not a small group so either TripAdvisor or Carpe Diem is getting greedy. We expected less than 10. Also, without a quiet box and so many people we were often out of earshot and lost out on local content being offered. Issue 2 was this was advertised as a food and beverages tour. One beer and a very small shot makes part of this statement misleading. We have taken similar tours in Melbourne, Barcelona and Lisbon with TripAdvisor and been very satisfied, so this makes tour doubly disappointing. We think this tour needs a rethink.
Awesome guide around the central of Budapest. Agnes was so sweet and took such good care for us
Estee was very knowledgeable about the city and gave us some great tips for the city. The food was good as well as the drinks.
Agnes was an exceptional tour guide. Held conversation easily and was very knowledgeable. We walked away with a large amount of new information and a pleasant experience!
Agnes was very polite and has a positive energy, also explained a lot about the food and the places. Thank you!
We paid for the Carp Diem food Tour in Budapest. We didn’t know what to expect but this tour was incredible. The several places we went to gave us huge portions of true Budapest food and we tried so many great dishes. Most of all, our guide Kelly made it so much fun and provided some great input on the history and current life in Budapest. She was a very special young woman. It appeared that the group of 12 people had a delightful time.
Agnes was fantastic! The food and beverages along the way were great too. We learned a bit along the way and enjoyed the entire afternoon!
Our tour guide Agnes was absolutely wonderful and made the tour so enjoyable!! Food was amazing and covered all the must-haves of Budapest! Walking around was very nice between spots and the amount of food was perfect at each location to feel satisfied and ready for a little afternoon siesta
We had a brilliant time on the Carpe Diem Budapest food tour. We visited four fantastic venues, each offering something unique and full of character. Our host, Peter, was outstanding and was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and he really took the time to chat with everyone in the group, which made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. The group made the experience even better. We were joined by two lovely couples, one from Colorado and another from Brisbane and Seattle which created a great mix. Everyone got on really well. The food was a real highlight. We got to try a great mix of traditional Hungarian dishes, including: • Delicious, hearty goulash soup (my absolute favourite) • Freshly made lángos • A rich chocolate cake • And Granny’s chicken paprikash, which was full of flavour My wife absolutely loved it as well, we were both raving about it afterwards. As if that wasn’t enough, the tour also included a nice wee walk through the ruin bars, giving us a taste of Budapest’s unique nightlife and atmosphere. Overall, everything was spot on! great food, great venues, a brilliant group, and an excellent host. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest!
Do not eat before you go! Food is amazing and large portions. Laura is an excellent guide. :) We had a blast !
