We spent a very nice hour with some beautiful, chilled kitties. Very relaxing and a coffee included.

Nothing much to do several sleeping cats not interested in interaction . Wouldn’t call it a museum more a cafe
I wouldn’t really call this a museum in the traditional sense. It feels much more like a spacious cat café with different areas where you can relax, read, play games, or simply spend time with the cats. There are also dedicated spaces for children to play. What I loved most was the calm and relaxed atmosphere. The cats all seemed very comfortable and relaxed, with plenty of space to move around across the two floors. The air conditioning was also a big plus, especially on a hot day. The staff members were very cordial and welcoming, and overall it was a lovely place to spend some relaxing time in the company of the cats. If you’re expecting a traditional museum, you might be surprised by the concept, but if you’re looking for a peaceful place to unwind with cats, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Lovely and helpful guides and cute cats.
The cats seem heavily sedated. Mostly sleeping, don't purr and barely react to interaction, it's not normal behaviour at all so there has to be something going on, they don't seem happy to be stroked but seem too out of it fo move, very uncomfortable experience. Heavy smell of cat urine. This shouldn't be supported, it's just sad.
A really horrible experience. The cats seem drugged, they seem unhappy when they're being stroked and yet don't move because they just seem to be so out of it. They don't purr or look at you when you stroke them and you could barely even feel some of their heartbeats. They don't really seem to have much space to get away from people other than the litter tray rooms and a lot of the cats spent most of their time in the litter tray rooms even though cats naturally hate to be around filth because they couldn't handle being around people. I've been around cats my whole life and this is not normal behaviour, even shy or sleepy cats are still responsive to being stroked but these cats didn't even seem like they knew what was going on. There was a smell of urine through a lot of it and the cats only seemed attentive when food was out. The staff were also quite rude to me, when trying to do a quiz on the tablet that was in Hungarian one of the staff members asked me if i needed to turn it to English so i went to press the button to translate it to English and she got really annoyed at me because i was supposed to open a different tab. They sounded quite rude to the other attendees as well. Honestly it seemed like every adult there also could tell that there was something wrong with the cats and only young children seemed unaware. The staff seemed to be almost watching over people because i think they knew that the attendees knew that something was wrong. Really disgusting behaviour to drug up animals and just use them for money when they're clearly not happy in this environment.
Only two small rooms jammed with photos, crowded space with no guidance, couple of tables and machineries to make some sounds. welcoming staff at reception but the tour is practically 5 minutes if you pet 3 of the cats as well.
So we were looking for something a little different to do mid way thru our visit to Budapest. We found this "Cat Museum" about 15 min walk from our hotel. Not really a museum but more of a local cat shelter that you pay a nominal fee to enter. They make you a coffee upon arrival, then you hang around and check out the 10-15 cats they have roaming around their 2 story apt (probably about 100 sq mt.). Most of the felines are open to getting petted. Very interesting for cat lovers (like us).
Really disappointing, I wouldn't recommend doing this at all. Go elsewhere.
Very nice, and interesting the atmósfera and twelve nice cats around to enjoy …………………..,………………………………..
Great place, very friendly, super cozy place, cats are open to play and pet, the stuff is just so sweet
Super cozy and cute. And lots of love to Cicero even though he didn't want me to pet him
This quirky little museum / cat cafe is adorable! Lots of beautiful cats to pet and play with while browsing the little museum. They offer painting and craft classes here too but we didn't have time to book one. The staff are friendly and clearly love what they do. I'd definitely come back if ever I'm in Budapest again.
Total disappointment. The venue has a very noticeable, unpleasant smell the second you walk in. On top of that, there are barely any cats around, and the few that are there clearly want nothing to do with people and just want to be left alone. Definitely not worth the ticket price. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Booked for my partner who loves cats! It did not disappoint, nice variety of cats. And great to see them cared for and safeguards put in place for their well being. Would recommend to any cat lovers needing to get their fix!
A beautiful experience with 12 amazing cats. They are so well looked after x
Can’t understand the bad reviews at all, we loved it during our recent visit! The staff were friendly and the museum is fun and informative if you care to read the info that is all over the place throughout the museum (some reviewers apparently didn’t ;) ). We got a free hot drink and enjoyed playing with and petting the cute cats sitting, striding around and relaxing everywhere. Of course you shouldn’t expect a museum the size of a national gallery or something, it’s two rooms and an upper floor area, but come on. There were games to play and little trinkets and cat paintings to admire. We had fun for sure!
More cats! All the cats!! Moooooreeee cats! The workers are friendly, the cats are beautiful, and the environment is peaceful. Amazing way to spend an evening.
Cute little cat cafe with multiple breeds of soft kitties that let you pet them! You also get a coffee or hot chocolate at no extra charge. They have strict entry and exit procedures which can be a bit off putting to customers if you’re not familiar with the process. I never received a ticket via email but once inside, they had my reservation in the system and there were no issues. Be prepared to remove your shoes and wear provided slippers when you enter. The place is aesthetically pleasing and clean!! It’s worth a quick visit if you like cats.
The cats were gorgeous but that was it. We got told we could only have our free drink after 40 minutes and that’s if you wanted to stay that long… Admissions was for 1.5 hours but honestly you could do it in 20 minutes. The cats are well cared for so the price is understandable in that respect but the experience not so much
The museum was really fun and cool Plenty of cats to see and enjoyed playing with them. The owners where really nice, let us give them treats. Had fun
It’s a bit much to call it a museum. It’s a small room with a few kittens. With all due respect to the kittens—they are beautiful and adorable—but it cannot really be called a museum. The reservation and entrance ticket are not justified.
If you love cats, this is a must not miss. The cats are chilled, happy, healthy and well and truly pampered. Some will even come on your lap. Lots of information. Highly recommend
A lovely museum with lots of cats. Some more playful, and some sleeping. Plenty of seating for you to enjoy a drink. We spent 1.5 hours here, but we did sit for a while and enjoy the artwork and cats passing by 🐱
Cats are very relaxed and friendly. When we visited they mostly slept, I don't know if it's a part of daily routine, but I would suggest going after 3pm when they wake up and are more active to fully enjoy their company.
Had a lovely time at the Cat Museum yesterday. Cute little house they live in which has climbing walls and hiding spots etc. Lots of the cats were playful wanted me to swing the cat toys around over and over again. Some were sleeping which YES is normal for cats so all you leaving bad reviews for sleepy cats is ridiculous as that's what cats do lounge around snoozing my 2 do the same at home then have a mad half hour running riot. Leave them be if thats what they want to do! People that mentioned the flip flops being annoying and your stuff not being safe is a load of rubbish to as there is lockers. Why wouldn't you want them to take extra precautions to keep the cats healthy etc. Cats were absolutely beautiful and they all let me stroke them and one even had a belly rub off me. Cats have to trust you they know when your not a cat lover so dont go if your not they sense it. The ladies were lovely at the desk I wanted a magnet with cat museum on as i collect when I travel and they didnt have one so they gave me a badge and keyring it was very kind. They don't overcrowd the place either which is good. Again cause they are thinking of the cats health. If your a cat lover like me its worth a visit. Take a seat enjoy a coffee and admire the beautiful kitties. Thanks for a great visit.
Sweet little place, nice people running it. Cats seem content and happy. If you are a true cat lover you might get a bit annoyed with how your fellow guests treat the cats in an attempt to get instagram photos! But the owners look after them very nicely
We saw purebred cats we'd never seen before. They all seemed happy, each with their own little personality. The only slight downside was the somewhat cold and impersonal welcome.
The Cat Museum has about 13 cats at the time I have visited. All of them were wonderful and allowed visitors to pet them. At first, most of the cats were asleep, but later they woke up and put on a fun laser-chasing show 😀. The cats live a cozy life here, and the staff were kind and friendly. Overall, it was a very nice experience :)
Well worth the time and money! The cats live there permanently and act like, well, cats - some want to play, sleep, walk around, eat, stretch and so on. A lot of fun details and informative reading, a fun quiz, chessboards and other games in a cosy little flat.
Despite the Museums enthusiasm to defend against diminutive reviews. The cat museum is at very best, disappointing. The fact that it isn’t there to provide a history of cats in the classical way of a museum isn’t at all relevant to it either. The cats all seem… sedated. Out of the cats seen on the day, only 1 was awake and even that one was longing to leave (see picture). 90 minutes recommend visiting time but we were done in approximately 6 minutes 23 seconds. Please, save your money, unless looking at sleeping cats is your thing. Thanks, Emma
Very sweet place if you love cats. People very friendly cats chilled lovely hot chocolate. Great pictures on the walks nice place to chill.
Friendly greeting, name checked, asked to change into slippers, places to hang coat and leave bags if needed. Sanitise hands then you are free to look around. As others have stated it’s very small and you’ve looked round in 10 minutes. Cats allow you to stroke them before wandering off - they seem happy enough. There are a few activities that younger children would enjoy - colouring, quizzes etc. My daughter and I played chess with a cat chess set :). We didn’t get the cat food as stated on the booking. You could order the hot drink after 50 minutes. It’s a pleasant enough way to spend an hour and the ladies are very friendly.
This was a nice little experience, we did the 5pm slot. There were some cute kitties there lazing around that you could pat, and also also some interesting facts and activities there. Would recommend if you would like a cute little cat experience and some relaxed vibes
I would not recommend this to anyone, we were in and out in 15mins. It was like entering someone's private house with cheap tacky ornaments everywhere. Nearly tripped on the stairs with my awful flip flops things that we had to wear. Having had cats all my life, I would definitely say they looked highly sedated, there was absolutely no response from any of them, which is un natural in my opinion. Definitely save your money for something a bit more realistic
Small museum over a two-floor townhouse with some display cabinets and information on the walls. There is also a selection of beautiful art, some of which is for sale. The main attraction is the cats, who are free roaming and friendly. They looked well cared for and had places they could escape to in private if they did not wish to be bothered. A hot drink is included in ticket and there is small seating area where you can drink it. As others have said, flip flops are provided for visitors but my partner has large feet and they were happy for him to go around in socks. Lockers are also provided for bags, which are locked and never left unattended despite what other reviews claim. Recommended for cat lovers!
Required to leave all your belongings at the door unattended and change shoes into manky flip flops neither of which is mentioned on he booking. It’s in the “interest of the cats” even though they are freely wandering where you leave the shoes anyway so that’s an absolute nonsense. Save your money.
Interesting place and opportunity to spend time with live cats. All the family enjoyed the time there. The hot drinks as a part of the experience are a very good idea!
The Cat Museum is such a great little hidden gem. Very well presented and the cats are super cute. My daughter's really enjoyed every minute. We will definitely be back when we visit again
Very cute cat museum. Well organised and I think for young ones this is lovely. We recommend that you book. Lots of people (including us) just turned to but unless you book a slot you won't get in. Cats all look very well cared for. Yes they were sleeping but they are cats and they let us stroke them with no bother. Great areas to learn about cats. Staff were just absolutely lovely. It's not a huge space but worth a look if you have little ones who love felines ❤️
Really friendly staff and the cats are clearly very well cared for. Plenty of fun decoration and factual displays on the walls, and the music throughout the museum was really lovely and relaxing and added to the experience. The best thing was of course the cats who were very friendly, and although the setting is small, they have a good range of cats to see and spend time with. A very positive experience.
Went at 17:00, so I expected the cats to be over it by then, but many cats were out and about. I was able to pet quite a few. Information placed throughout the museum. I would recommend this to people who love cats.
Don't waste your time and money. All done in 10 minutes. Could only see five cats and no interaction, they couldn't care less about the visitors, all sleeping. Staff were rude and unfriendly. (BIG SCAM) avoid at all costs.
Not worth the money . Took us 10 minutes. Few cats , that just wanted to be left alone but some visitors didn’t . Cat exhibits limited and uninteresting. They were playing a video about the making of the stage musical lion king !!!! ??? Museum staff rude & grumpy both the cats & staff didn’t want to be there ! I would avoid .
If you love cats then you'll love this place! The cats are clearly well looked after and their fur is so soft. Cats being cats means you're not guaranteed cuddles but you'll get the chance to stroke them. We loved it!!
All of the cats were so sweet and approachable. Learned some cool facts about them and cats in general as well! Each entry comes with a free hot drink and everyone can try their cat quiz, which if you get over 80%, you get a free prize. I won a small badge, which was quite nice. The staff are also super nice and friendly. Best way to chill out before walking more :)
I visited this place because I have been missing my own cats. This was the first place I headed to in Budapest- in search of soul therapy, likely. It is not a musuem per se, more of a cat cafe with reasonable amount of cat related information and a short nine minute audio guide. I did learn a few previously unknown facts on cats. I will be honest, I spent a good amount of my time here trying to figure out if the cats were happy and whether the place was being run keeping their welfare as the main priority. Most of the cats were asleep and yes I know cats spend a good 16 hours of the day sleeping, but I was also wondering if having to put up with so many strangers throughout the day, was too much of stress- hence fake sleeping perhaps? I also wondered if the strange docility the cats exhibited was also part of stress. However I did notice they had about only 11 cats, plenty of space including hide-outs, and in general, well given that I am not an animal expert, I couldn't ultimately decide the cafe was bad for the animals. I wouldn't say I left the place rejuvenated because I definitely left with more questions than answers as to whether they really are happy in there, but for a brief period of time they assuaged the ache of not having my own cats with me. Otherwise the staff were polite, they spoke excellent English and gave clear directions. A drink is inclusive of the ticket price. If you love cats, and uneccesary thinking is not what you do on a regular basis, this place can be a very nice spot to stretch and relax just like its feline occupants.
Well, I adore cats. Each meeting with any cat for me is amazing. But this museum does not have too much to offer. But in a city where you don't see stray cats, this place can be a small heaven. Anyway, the staff, human and feline, are very kind, sweet and welcoming.
really cute, it was very spacious with lots to look at. The cats were too cute and the artwork around was fitting and fun!
Cat museum was fun. Lots of cats to pet and spend time with. Staff was warm and friendly. Would recommend this to cat lovers for sure!!
