We had a lovely experience with Marti on the market and cooking tour. She is very knowledgeable about Hungary and does an excellent job answering questions. The cooking portion was interactive but not stressful and the food was amazing.

Cooking with Marti was one of the highlights of my visit to Budapest. Starting with meeting her at the Central Market where she walked us through to teach us about the foods of Hungary. As a professional chef she demonstrates just how extremely knowledgeable she is about the foods of her country.. She explains the history of how meats, fish, spices, fruits, vegetables and wines/liquors are prepared and enjoyed in Hungary. Afterwards we were brought to her kitchen where we helped to prepare a traditional Hungarian meal and enjoy local wines. All of which were fabulous!!! If you have an evening free during your visit this is a MUST!!
We were in Europe for 2 weeks and visiting the Budapest grand market and cooking with Marti was the highlight of our trip! I would give our experiences with Marti a 10 out of 5 if I could - it was that great! I say experiences because the day before, on the last day of our Tauck Danube River Cruise we serendipitously made Langos with her as part of our tour. The next day we made Chicken Paprika, a Farmers’ Plate, and drank local wine in her home kitchen after touring the market with her. Marti is very personable and shared parts of her and her family’s personal journey through the transition from Russian occupation to present day Hungary - since we were curious. We wish we had more time to stay in Budapest because there are more cooking lessons in addition to the Chicken Paprika that she provides. Btw, the chicken dish was AMAZING and if you do the cooking class, she shares her secrets and provides recipes.
Marti was great! She took us on a quick tour of the market then we cabbed to her kitchen for a fabulous cooking class. She is very knowledgeable and a great teacher for all levels of cooking experience. We would defintely take the class again.
Marti was lovely, experienced and an excellent teacher. In addition to learning how to cook Hungarian food -- which she made very doable -- she shared a lot with us about her life and her country. A highlight of our 5 days in Budapest.
Wonderful market tour, quick shopping, and an extensive cooking experience including beverages, several courses, and wonderful conversation throughout! Marti is awesome!
Marti is an excellent tour guide and instructor. We had a thorough of the market and then she showed us how to make a delicious dinner. High recommend.
Wonderful experience touring the market, followed by a good time cooking and making new friends. I have a hard time making Hot Pockets, but Marti made me a real chef for a day! She's a lovely person, a Budapest native who'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Hungary as well as cooking. Highly recommended.
Lovely evening. My husband and I enjoyed the walk through the market with Marty as she explained the products and history. Going to her kitchen, we made dinner with her assistance. It was wonderful and everyone had a great time. I would definitely recommend this as it was a definite highlight of our trip.
Marti is a great guide, chef, host and teacher! We had a very informative walk around the Central Market learning about the various Hungarian food traditions. We then went to Marti's and made Chicken Paprikash and mini dumplings under her expert guidance. She treated us to palinka and a plate of Hungarian cured meats and pickled vegetables ( including baby watermelons!) whilst we cooked. Having just got home, we have made it again - with great success 😁. See picture.
Great cooking class ! Marti is a real sweet lady and a great chef ! Highly recommend! And the market was amazing!
We had a wonderful time with Marti. The market tour was very interesting, going early on Monday morning was bonus as it was not too busy. The cooking class in her kitchen was definitely a highlight of our time in Budapest. It was a lot of fun, and we really enjoyed eating the fruits of our labours together with Marti. Thanks Marti
Our chef Marti was an absolute gem! Her knowledge of cooking techniques as well as Budapest history was so educational. Not only did she provide us with stories of Budapest she told us of her growing up in the countryside with her family and how they grew their own food and how it shaped what she is doing now. The dishes that we cooked with Marti were delicious. While we were nervous at first, Marti welcomed us with open arms and we felt at home with a dear friend. I highly recommend taking any classes that Marti is offering. You will definitely have a great time and learn so much while enjoying making delicious Hungarian delicacies!
This was one of the highlights from our trip to Budapest. Marta is the best! We cooked Sour Cherry Soup (so freakin good ), Chicken Paprikas, and Gundel Pancakes. Learned a ton. Very hands on. Can’t wait to try the recipes when we get back home. We had great conversations, drinks, and of course, local meats, vegetables, cheeses from the market. Marta really shows how to get immersed into the Hungarian way of life. Worth every minute. Book it! It’s worth it!
Marti was an amazing chef who explained all the different areas of the Market, including produce, meat, fish, cheese and desserts. She shared her expertise and recipes for three Hungarian dishes which were most delicious. She was very interesting and spoke very good English. I highly recommend a class with her.
What a wonderful experience my husband and I had for our first "travel" cooking class!! Our guide/chef, Marti, took us on a tour of the Budapest Central Market (so much to see there!) and then we went to Marti's kitchen to prepare our meal: Sour Cherry Soup, Chicken Paprika with Dumplings and Gundel Pancakes. There were 5 of us for our class and Marti was an excellent hostess and got everyone involved in cooking and socializing. We enjoyed tasting palinka, homemade soft drinks and nibbles. I would absolutely recommend Marti's tour/class to anyone going to Budapest. My husband was a little apprehensive about doing a cooking class, but told me afterwards that he had an absolutely wonderful time!
This was the highlight of our trip. We cannot say enough good things about chef Marti. She was so nice, talented, knowledgeable, and a good teacher. We enjoyed getting to know about her and her family. We had a choice of several menus which she sent to us and we chose our 3 courses. She had everything organized and we cooked it all. The food was amazing! Having our dinner with wine at the conclusion was lovely. Highly, highly recommend. A fabulous experience.
My wife and I met Marti at the entrance to the market and went on to have a great day with her. It was delightful to hear about the history of the market along with some excellent recommendations regarding buying paprika to bring back to our family and friends. After the tour we went to Marti's cooking pad where we learned how to prepare chicken paprikash. We also made a cold soup out of sour cherries and finished with flipping crepes for dessert...yummy! What we liked about the experience was that we actually participated in the making of each part of the meal following very specific instructions. The end result was amazing and we ate until we were totally full. We highly recommend this experience with Marti in Budapest.
Marti was a terrific host! We very much enjoyed the eclectic market she took us through. Her kitchen site was adorably decorated. Her homemade fruit drinks and jams were an extra treat. Her stories growing up in the countryside were extremely interesting. And, of course, the food selections and cooking opportunities were perfect. Definitely recommend!
My husband and I LOVED our time spent shopping and cooking with Marti in Budapest. She was so much fun and so enthusiastic about our adventure together. She really made our trip a memorable one. Would HIGHLY recommend to couples, families and groups of friends!
Our experience with Marti was wonderful on all fronts. We shared a day of learning, indulgence and spoiling. From the informative Market Tour - tasting and exploring the local produce. To the fun cooking in Marti’s superb homely Kitchen. Our menu was delicious. We would highly recommend Marti’s experiences. Thank you Marti you are a gem. We loved every minute. Hope we return again some day.
We like to do cooking class when traveling and this was one of the best. The market tour at the start is almost a time filler, however once at the kitchen this tour was 10 out of 10. We cooked a 3 course meal, all hands on. A soup, cabbage rolls and strudel. We learnt how to make strudel pastry from scratch and stretch it out. Printed recipes to take home. Our guide and chef was great. The kitchen was good. All appliances as you would have in a home kitchen so you can replicate what you have done.
Marti met us outside the market and gave us a tour of the market. While giving us the tour, she told us the history of the market. We purchased the ingredients we needed for the cooking class and we sampled some typical Hungarian food. The menu was chosen in advance from her list of suggested foods. When we were finished at the market, we went to Marti's beautiful apartment where we prepared and ate the food. Before we began to cook, Marti had homemade cordials and mineral water ready for us. Marti's English is excellent. She is very kind and patient. She did an excellent job explaining how to make the typical Hungarian dishes that we prepared with her help. In addition to learning about food, Marti answered many questions as she told us about life in Hungary today, life in Hungary before and during WW2 and life in Hungary under Communist rule. She paired a nice wine with the food and sat down and ate with us. Her husband came towards the end of the meal and he drove us back to our hotel. This was more than just a market tour and cooking class. This was an amazing personal experience as we got to know about Marti and her family's history in Hungary. I highly recommend this activity and I will definitely tell anyone who visits Budapest to take a class with Marti.
We were with marti for more then 4 hours. Starting in market tour and continue cooking in the class. She is a real profesonal chef we learn a lot. I came from an Hungarian family I grew up with Hungarian food but this was for me a real exciting experience. And above all marti is warm and ready to answer and help much more then he promised in the agenda of the course.
