Itinerary
[GLUTEN FREE, VEGAN, VEGETARIAN Options Available] What makes the Foodapest Cooking Class unique is that it blends culture, flavors, connection, and history into one experience. Unlike a standard cooking class during the morning classes, we begin with a guided market tour at the iconic Central Market Hall, where guests taste local specialties from real Hungarian producers. From there, we bring those fresh, seasonal ingredients to our cozy Budapest-style venue and learn how to prepare traditional Hungarian dishes, based on real family recipes. Along the way, guests connect with the city, the food, and each other: discovering not just how Hungarian cuisine tastes, but how it’s shaped by tradition, stories, and everyday life in Budapest. It’s not just a cooking class, it’s a cultural experience served family-style.

Eszter and Adam were wonderful and invited much participation with our group. Enjoyed out Chicken paprikash very much.
Fun experience with family and friends. Food was delicious Rebeka was charming and engaging. Would highly recommend
We had an awesome traditional Hungarian meal with the guidance of Rebecca. The only thing better than the meal was Rebecca’s company.
My wife and I enjoyed our time with Adam and Ezret. We'd highly recommend them both. They were insightful, interesting, and we enjoyed their company. We'd enjoy seeing both of them again. Our chicken paprikash meal came out well!
This was an outstanding experience from start to finish! We loved learning the secrets behind some of Hungary’s much-loved dishes in such a warm, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The hands-on cooking was fun and engaging, and the matching Hungarian wines complemented each dish beautifully. Our host, Niki, was wonderful, sharing her knowledge and passion for Hungarian food and culture. A delicious meal, fantastic wines and a memorable experience shared with new friends. We couldn’t recommend this class highly enough to anyone visiting Budapest!
Ester did great. Nice to have a local.
A great local experience. The food, environment, and guide were delightful. I have a new favorite Hungarian food.
Suzanne was wonderful. Great command of English, well informed and very pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class, and would highly recommend.
Eszter was a fantastic host and extremely knowledgeable in the art of cooking and involving us in the process. We took a pasta making class in Florence last year that was awesome so we searched for one in Budapest for cooking chicken Paprikas and this one fit the bill. Highly recommend!
Excellent ambiance, learned about Hungarian culture and cooking. Easter was amazing.
Great fun way to learn about cooking in Hungary and to practice some new skills. It was a welcoming and engaging group, we really enjoyed our evening and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this experience.
Awesome experience, Flora was absolutely fantastic and her English was fantastic. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for an authentic Hungarian Experience with little outside knowledge of English.
Lucy our host was wonderful! Very friendly and patient with non cooking folks. Food was fresh and delicious! Would highly recommend this experience!
Our guide was personable and very informative. She made sure that each of us had a turn at participating in the cooking class. Flora was awesome.
Fantastic market tour and cooking lesson with Eszter in Budapest. This was a great way to learn about, and experience, the Hungarian history, geography, culture, wines, culinary specialities and even hospitality norms.
Eszter was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide taking us through the market and teaching us how to make traditional Hungarian food specialities. We really enjoyed the wine, food, history, cultural and culinary lessons she shared and would highly recommend this experience to others visiting Budapest. We appreciated her what's app message confirming and food sensitivities etc. as the meeting point address given to us on the Viator ticket was not correct and it was easy to touch base with Eszter to find out the correct meeting location.
An excellent introduction to Budapest and Hungarian cuisine. Esther was a lovely and engaging host who ensured an understanding of the recipe and taught the whole room a little more about cooking throughout the experience. Would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Budapest
Eszter was an amazing guide. She was extremely friendly and socialable. She made the cooking class! Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to take a cooking class while in Budapest.
★★★★★ Absolutely amazing food tour with Eszter! Wow — what an incredible experience! Eszter was such a wonderful host and gave us the perfect introduction to Budapest through its food and culture. We started with a fantastic tour of the market, learning about Hungarian ingredients, traditions, and local foods. Then we went back to the apartment, where the experience became even more special. We tasted Hungarian wine and pickles and learned how to make the most amazing chicken paprikash! Everything was delicious, authentic, and so much fun. Eszter is absolutely amazing — knowledgeable, warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about sharing Hungarian food and culture. This was one of the highlights of our time in Budapest, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting! Five stars all the way! 🇭🇺❤️
Eszter was amazing, everyone should have a cooking class with her! So pleasant and enthusiastic ❤️❤️❤️
The atmosphere of the class is really cool. An apartment was remodeled to make a studio kitchen. Niki was an amazing leader of our class. She was funny and knowledgeable. We had the best time cooking with her!
Great location, Rebecca was friendly and knowledgeable. The other attendees were great company, lots of fun
We enjoyed the entire experience and the food was fantastic. Our class leader, Sonja was awesome! Highly recommend!
Sonja was an amazing host and cooking instructor. She was explicit with instruction but made the experience fun and informative. The food we cooked (paprika chicken) was delicious, as was the wine with generous amounts of each. We would highly recommend this Hungarian experience.
Mesi was a great guide. The class and tour were informative and enjoyable. We could have as much wine as we wanted and the food was delicious. Would do it again
Fabulous tour and class!! Sonya was an informative guide and took us on a great journey through the food market and taught us about Hungarian culture and food. Lots of food to sample and lots of wine. Highly recommend!
My husband and I were booked on the cooking class but due to a significant problem, couldn’t attend. Our guide, Niki, was amazing. She was kind and thoughtful in all her communications which we really appreciated. I would definitely recommend Foodapest and Niki if you are considering a tour or class in Budapest. The day after we took part in a food tour with Foodapest with other members of our family and it was brilliant. We were so impressed with their professionalism and will definitely book further activities with them in the future.
Excellent. Nicki was great! It was a lot of fun and the place we cooked was so cute! I would highly recommend this tour.
A very fun way to learn about Hungarian food, culture and history all in one tour. Also learning to make the food with Soznjia was so enjoyable. She was very good at instructions with great humor.
Szonja was the best guide we have ever experienced!! She was absolutely amazing!!!!
Lovely small group adventure with market tour where you actually pick up the ingredients and walk back to an apartment for cooking. Nice welcome snacks with sausage, wine, and cheese. Friendly guide and delicious food. Would highly recommend.
Overall experience was great. We were introduced to country favorite dishes and wines sourced from native vineyards. Our cooking guide - Nicki - made the evening fun and enjoyable.
What a great experience with Szonja the food was delicious If I could rate 10 stars I would !
Sonia and Flora did an excellent job hosting. I highly recommend.
We had a wonderful experience with Rebeka and Tania. This was are first tour in Budapest and it has set the tone for our trip. The market hall was an excellent introduction to the cuisine of Hungary. After picking up our ingredients, chicken and pickles, we went to an apartment to prepare chicken paprika with homemade noodles. The class was fun and interactive and then we sat down to a delicious lunch. Thank you so much to Rebeka and Tania!
Niki was amazing!!! We learned so many techniques! The food was delicious! I would 100% recommend this cooking experience!
Mesi, Ester and ? were fantastic. It was Esters first class to lead on her own. She was exceptional. Clear English. Comfortable dialogue. Very informative. Mesi has trained her very well. By the way, the food was great as well! :-)
Fabulous experience. Rebeka our host was knowledgeable and very lovely. Would certainly recommend this cooking class as it is authentically Hungarian.
Mesi was an excellent host. She was friendly, knowledgeable, the experience was engaging and fun. It was nice as a couple to meet other travellers who also took the course, and it was great to hear from Mesi about her recommendations and experiences in Budapest. Would highly recommend!
Such an amazing experience and would highly recommend Szonja, so knowledgeable and informative. Made my birthday soooo special. The food and the experience is a must do!
Lucy, our instructor, was awesome giving instructions on cooking, conversation and in attending to our needs. The food was delicious, and I look forward to making this at home. I would definitely recommend this class!
We did not get to participate in the originally planned market tour, which I found out on the same day as the class, but it’s not anyone’s fault - the market simply closed early that day. Thankfully we had time to return another day. Our course teacher, Mesi, did an incredible job. She didn’t throw too much at us at once, and ensured that our cooking process was idiot-proof (which is certainly good, as there was lots of Hungarian wine and liquor involved throughout the evening). Our class had 4 people, and I can easily imagine how it would get chaotic with a larger group. We made chicken paprikash with egg noodles for our entree, which was rich, colorful and loaded with Hungarian paprika. Big chunks of peppers and onions added some crunch, and everything worked together nicely. I don’t know the official name for our dessert, but it involved slices of Hungarian kifli, a crescent pastry, with vanilla glaze and poppy seeds. Without a better adjective to describe this dessert, I would label it as thick and goopy, but in the best way for a sweet dessert. This had none of the artificial headache-inducing sweetness I find in many American desserts, and I absolutely had multiple portions. Evidently I will have to make this at home. Despite my best efforts to distract my friends during this class, both of whom are highly competent home cooks, we successfully made a delicious dinner. Foodapest clearly is a stellar option to try classic Hungarian food in a low-stakes class, and I’d recommend it with pride.
Come hungry and thirsty. Mesi is great. We made Chicken Paprikash which was great. We made dumplings as well and chopped everything in class.
I’ve experienced some wonderful events on this trip, but I must say the Foodapest cooking class was the highlight of the whole trip! Lucy was a phenomenal host! She taught us how to make chicken paprikash with dumplings and a poppyseed bread pudding! Her guidance was clear and patient. Above everything, she provided a thoroughly fun and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this experience!
Wonderful experience with Niki & Rebeka! The chicken paprikash was amazing, along with the Nokedli, but honestly Niki & Rebeka made the experience a once in a lifetime!!
Most fun event EVER! Mesi was such an informative guide, not only about the Central Market and cooking, but about Budapest and Central Europe. Shopping was great and the food prep was entertaining, but the best part was eating our wonderful meal. Would highly recommend!
This was quite the adventure. Mesi and Lucy did a masterful job of guiding the group through the Central Hall and explaining the history of the building and how the community shops in everyday life. Going from one stall to another, the ingredients needed for the planned meal of chicken papriksh. Wirh shopping done a 10 minute walk to FoodPest's apartment to prepare the meal. A very divergent group of 12 chopped, sliced and cooked...getting a number of very useful food prep techniques. All of which culminated in sitting down to a wonderful Hungarian meal...including several good Hungarian wines. So, stop shopping around...this is the cooking class you want.
The cooking class was a combination of history, social gathering, cooking, and fun. My family of 4 had a blast. The food was delicious and Mesi, our instructor, was so attentive and fun. This class surpassed our expectations and we would sign up again for the exact same session.
Niki provided a friendly, fun and entertaining experience. She was well organized and ready for us. The food and her explanations were very good. We made Chicken Paprikash! We were able to make it ourselves and leard the technique to using the Spaetzle make for the Nokedli dumplings. What a treat! Niki’s teaching skills are expert. He approach, explanations and personality made it an excellent experience.
