Our Flavors of Hungary cooking class with Marti was one of the highlights of our time in Budapest! Marti made us feel right at home, and we loved learning how to make traditional Hungarian dishes with her. We started with a delicious spicy curd cheese cream that I could have happily eaten by the spoonful. The potato soup was wonderfully comforting, the stuffed cabbage was full of flavor, and the poppy seed bread dumplings were such a fun dessert to try. It felt like spending time in a friend’s kitchen and sitting down to a wonderful homemade meal together. If you’re visiting Budapest and love to cook or just love to eat, I’d highly recommend this class. Thank you, Marti, for such a memorable experience!

Chef Marti is an amazing professional cook; her homey kitchen space is in a lovely and easily-accessible location in Budapest. We loved creating cold soup, chicken paprikas and crepes for dessert, and Chef Marti paired those with delicious local wines. Chef Marti is welcoming and personable, and in addition to sharing historical perspectives about growing up in Hungary, she is also an excellent teacher who coaches and demonstrates when necessary. This cooking class experience was incredible, one of our most memorable parts of our trip to Europe.
We had a great time at the cooking class with Marti. The menu was delicious and the space for doing the class was also very nice. She taught us the traditions and explained the ingredients and history. Really top notch- would definitely do this again
Fantastic Hungarian cooking experience! Marti and Peter were delightful. It was fun to learn about local customs and food. And dinner and wine were delicious!
Marti’s instruction and guidance were excellent. The food was delicious! There was another couple there. We enjoyed being together and learning about Hungarian cooking as well as Hungarian culture. Marti was a joy to learn from and be with! It was a great way to get a taste of Hungarian food and life in Budapest.
We had a lovely time. Marti was wonderful. We cooked a delicious meal and learned a lot of Hungarian history. Would highly recommend doing this if you are visiting Budapest. Was definitely a highlight.. we give her five stars!!!
My 18 year old son and I took Marti’s cooking class together while visiting Budapest, and we both had an amazing time! We learned a lot about traditional Hungarian cuisine and the origins of many famous dishes like goulash soup, chicken paprikash, and apple strudel, along with how to buy, store and use the different types of Hungarian paprika. We all participated in the preparation of our meal so we could get a feel for the recipes first hand. Marti then shares all the recipes with everyone via email so we can try them at home. She puts a lot of time and effort into the preparation so that everything goes smoothly during the class and meal. I was so impressed with the entire experience- couldn’t be more pleased or impressed with how it went!!
We had a wonderful experience with Marti and would recommend to everyone. We learned so much about Budapest and cooking the fabulous meals. THANK YOU!
Cooking with Marti was one of the highlights of our trip! We laughed, cooked, ate and toasted as we shared the evening!
Marti was warm & welcoming and she had a great sense of humor. Her kitchen is very clean & inviting to cook in. We really enjoyed the hands-on experience making & eating several Hungarian foods. Highly recommend this experience.
Marti is a wonderful chef and instructor and we had a great time learning and cooking Hungarian dishes!
Had a great time learning about the local cuisine and culture. And the food was fantastic! Can’t wait to try it at home.
Had a wonderful evening at the cooking school. The group size was small, which made the experience relaxed, interactive, and very personal. The recipes were absolutely delicious and easy to follow. The chef was incredibly helpful, patient, and shared so many useful cooking tips throughout the class. It was both fun and informative — highly recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking or wants to learn new skills
It was awesome. Great experience and great food. Chef Marti kept all us engaged. We had a great time.
Cooking classes when we travel abroad is always a highlight of our trip and this one was no exception. We had a great time and can’t wait to make some of these things at home!
This cooking class was an absolute highlight of our time in Budapest. Not only was the food authentic and delicious, but the experience went far beyond the kitchen. Our instructor Marti was exceptional—she didn’t just teach recipes, she shared the stories behind them, along with insights into Hungary’s history, from the communist era to today’s evolving political landscape. It felt like cooking, culture, and conversation all blended into one unforgettable evening. We left with full hearts, full stomachs, and a much deeper appreciation for Hungarian life. We would take this class again in a heartbeat.

What a Fabulous Time!! Martí could not have been any nicer. She kept us informed with excellent information about our class including directions to the class that were easy to follow. We felt so welcomed from the minute we arrived. Everyone got to participate in the prep and cooking throughout the evening. Martí was a great teacher! She told stories about her life and living in Hungary that kept us engaged the whole night. Finally we sat down to our delicious meal with great wine and good company. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun and engaging class while in Budapest.
Had a wonderful time cooking with Marti and the group, and then enjoying the meal we made! Great all-around experience. I would highly recommend it if you like cooking.
All I need to start with is "Wow!" This was a unique, genuine experience that exceeded expectations. Marti is a gracious, caring instructor who makes you feel welcome and part of her kitchen studio - which is well appointed and comfortable. The instruction, recipes and meal were amazing - and provided a glimpse into the true culture and cuisine of the Hungarian countryside. Five stars for sure!!
What a wonderful cooking class, Marti is a great chef and host and explained all the recipes we were cooking. It gave me an insight into Hungarian cuisine in a small group which made it feel as though I was having a one-on-one lesson. We prepared three dishes which were authentic and the best part was we were able to sit down as a group afterwards to eat the food. I highly recommend Marti and Flavors of Budapest for anyone interested in learning Hungarian cooking and culture.
Stuffed cabbage, potato soup, and poppy dumplings were delicious. Wonderful stories and a fantastic host—highly recommend! 🇭🇺
Lots of “hands on” experience in this workshop. The instructor was very warm and friendly. She wove a lot of history into her instructions…
Marti was amazing and a great teacher. She has Knowledge about little things - like the best times to add some ingredients - that are important. I had a good time and definitely recommend the class.
Fabulous! Marti was fun, informative and a delight to take a class from. A full evening filled with good company and food.
Marti was fabulous. She was engaging, friendly, knowledgeable and very personable. We made Hortabagy pancakes filled with chicken paprikash, goulash soup and Gerbeaud cake for dessert. There were 5 couples and everyone got an opportunity to participate in the preparation process. Highly recommend. It was fabulous learning to cook Hungarian recipes that I will recreate at home!!
We can't speak highly enough of our experience at Flavors of Budapest! Marti is energetic, fun, and she's an excellent cooking instructor. She made sure all 4 of use got to work on preparing the meal, and she made the whole experience fun! We made sour cherry soup, chicken paprikash, and gundle pancakes (which are like crepes) filled with a delicious walnut filling. We had one person who couldn't eat nuts, and Marti accommodated our needs by substituting a delicious and homemade apricot jam. We learned a lot, we ate a lot, and mostly we had a lot of FUN! The price was affordable. We highly recommend Flavors of Budapest to anyone.
Cooking with Marti was fantastic! She’s patient, skilled, encouraging, and funny. We learned so much!!! We learned to make a 3 course meal, that I feel confident I could try at home and she even sent us the recipes! She shared with us special soda, snacks, and palinka that she and her family made. It made us feel welcome and like we were special friends. Would definitely recommend!
Such a WONDERFUL evening!! Marti provided a wealth of Hungarian cooking information in a comfortable setting with delicious bites. Her kitchen was the perfect place to gather, learn, and dine. And afterwards, she emailed us the recipes so we can continue to cook like a Hungarian chef at home. Highly recommended!
Marti was a great host and instructor. The food was excellent. We had a fun night while learning how to cook great authentic Hungarian dishes. This was an amazing experience and if we return to Budapest we would do another class!
Marti is a chef extraordinaire and wonderful guide through Hungarian gastronomy adding bits of cultural references along the way. She allowed us to take a hand at putting the dishes together while explaining why we used certain ingredients vs others that would change the flavor and texture. I'm not a very good cook and yet I had a great time!
Marti is the best!!! This is by far our best cooking class experience ever! And Marti is a chef in profession too. She is very knowledgeable and articulate. She made our whole experience so much meaningful while having fun and making new friends. Our food turned our so delicious! Marti was great and precise in giving instructions and directions during the cooking class PLEASE DON’T MISS BOOKING A CLASS WITH MARTI WHEN YOU’RE IN BUDAPEST! She is phenomenal! Her home was beautiful, clean and very homey! Thank you Marti!
Marti was a great host and cook! Not only did she host a wonderful cooking class but it was filled with stories about her mother and grandmother’s cooking as she grew up. She was very gracious and helped create a memory our family will not forget.
Marti was such a great host! Her English is excellent and class was a ton of fun! It’s hands on, there’s plenty of jokes, and some drinks too. Definitely recommend, it was my favorite part about my trip.
Food was excellent and the teacher was wonderful! We made the sour cherry soup, chicken paprikash, and gundel pancake menu - highly recommend!
My friends and I very much enjoyed the private cooking class with Flavors of Budapest. We learnt a huge amount about the food, wine and culture as well as Hungarian cooking, of course. The environment was relaxed but professional. Marti gave clear and encouraging instructions and was a delight to spend the afternoon and evening with. The three course meal was delicious as were the snacks and wine too. We would thoroughly recommended this school.
This was a participation activity, rather than just a cooking demonstration. Highly recommended. Almost 4 hours, including eating, so good value.
Marti is amazing Chef! I've taken her Hungarian cuisine class twice and loved it. If you're visiting Budapest, be sure to check it out. I highly recommend the Flavor of Budapest.
Do not miss the opportunity to take a cooking class with Marti! She is such a pro - an incredibly talented chef, friendly, funny and so hospitable. She made us feel like guests in her home and managed to stay perfectly on task so the meal ended right on time. And the food?! SOOOO delicious! We went as a family with a 16 yo and a 13 yo and they said it was one of the highlights of the trip. Don't hesitate to sign-up for a class with her!
During our trip to Budapest, my husband and I decided to learn something about Hungarian food through taking a cooking lesson from local chef, Marti (who was recommended by travel guru Rick Steves). We met for several hours in Marti’s spacious downtown Budapest kitchen where she welcomed us w local beverages (hard and non-alcoholic herbal, your choice). We learned to make a sour cherry soup as a starter. Next, with Marti guiding us through every step, we put together a truly mouthwatering Chicken Paprikash dish served over spaetzle (which we also made, easiest method ever)! For dessert, we crafted crepes [aka Gundel pancakes], stuffed them, and rolled them up and into a dish to bake. The result was pure dessert heaven!! Then we sat to enjoy the feast, w good conversation and a bit more wine!! Single best food-n-lesson-n-fun experience of our trip!!!
I was so happy we booked this cooking class. After two weeks of travel and disembarking from a river cruise earlier that day, we were tired. Despite thinking about cancelling, we went anyway and had the best time. Marti is amazing. She shared about their culture and taught us some new cooking tricks! The food was fantastic! I would HIGHLY recommend skipping the restaurant and booking this culinary experience for dinner instead!
Wonderful 4 hour cooking class and subsequent dinner! Marti has a well appointed cooking studio. My husband & I, close friends and a family worked together with Marti to make sour cherry soup, chicken paprikash and an amazing 4 layer cake with apricot layers and chocolate icing. So much fun and learned a lot about Hungarian cooking. Ingredients and social history. Highly recommended as a delicious way to spend an evening in Budapest.
We loved this. Marti is warm, smart and an excellent cook and teacher. We were two couples who were paired with a family of 4, and even their two teenagers had a great time. It worked out great. We made sour cherry soup, chicken paprikash and walnut chocolate torte. Absolutely delicious.
This cooking class was so wonderful. Marti is a natural teacher. We had sampled chicken paprikash earlier in our trip, so we were thrilled that we can now recreate it back in Texas. We had no idea what to expect of sour cherry soup, but thoroughly enjoyed this cold soup and are looking forward to cooking in during our hot summers. We had such an enjoyable evening cooking, drinking wine, and learning more about the history and culture of Hungary. Marti made some wonderful appetizers for us to snack on as we cooked, so we were stuffed by the end of the night!
We had an incredible time during this cooking experience! From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, and the atmosphere in the kitchen was so warm and welcoming. The dishes we prepared were absolutely delicious, and we learned so many useful tips that we can't wait to try again at home. Beyond the food, it was just such a fun and memorable moment to share together. Thank you so much for your kindness, professionalism, and passion. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an authentic and tasty culinary moment! Amélie & Marc-André
This was a really fun class with delicious results! Marti arranged a menu that required just the right amount of work for us to get everything done without having to work too hard. Our dishes included chilled sour cherry soup, chicken paprikash, and gundel pancakes. For the chicken paprikash in particular, I think that's a recipe that people can find intimidating, but, seeing it done, you realize it's not so bad (plus it's delicious). We had a little break for snacks and wine partway through, so don't worry about getting peckish! Marti was a great teacher--skilled and enthusiastic, and it was interesting to hear little bits of history and culture from her. Would recommend this class!
Very nice hostess. While cooking , she gladly answered all our questions about Hungarian culture 😄😄 good conversation. We were so lucky to only be the two of us, since it was low season for tourism, so we had the entire place to ourselves. The food was really tasty and easy to make, and we felt very well taken care of. Central location in 7th district. Would recommend!
Endre was excellent. Very personable. His knowledge is far above that of other tour guides we have used. He provides a lot of insight and is not afraid to address the more difficult or sensitive questions that come up. Highly recommend.
Our Hungarian cooking class was wonderful! Marti was such a great instructor, and she made the evening fun! We learned so much and enjoyed a fine meal that we plan to replicate at home. We could not have chosen a better way to spend our final evening in Budapest! Thank you!!
Marti was a great Master class chef. She not only helped us to prepare a wonderful Hungarian meal but shared her culture and customs with us. She certainly cooks with much much passion. The 4 hours flew by, we weren’t ready to leave as she was a wonderful host.
