Excellent , I did appreciated the experience
Dear Customer Service Team, I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the thermal spa excursion we recently booked and to request a full refund of the amount paid. At no point during the booking process or prior to our arrival were we made aware that towels, slippers, swimming caps and goggles were mandatory requirements for accessing the facilities. Had this information been clearly communicated in advance, we would have been adequately prepared and could have avoided the significant additional expense incurred. Upon arrival, we were faced with unexpected requirements and were left with no reasonable option but to purchase towels and slippers from the on-site shop at an additional cost of £130. Despite this, the overall experience fell considerably short of what was advertised and what we reasonably expected from an excursion costing over £100. Furthermore, the condition of the facilities was extremely disappointing, with areas appearing unclean, poorly maintained and generally below an acceptable standard. As a result, my partner and I were only able to remain at the venue for approximately 30 minutes before deciding to leave. We therefore received virtually none of the experience or value for money that we had paid for. This was particularly disappointing given that it was our final day in Budapest, and what should have been an enjoyable final experience of our trip was instead a considerable source of frustration and disappointment. In light of the significant lack of information provided prior to the excursion, the unexpected additional costs, the condition of the facilities and our inability to make meaningful use of the experience, I believe a full refund is entirely justified. I would appreciate this matter being treated as a formal complaint and would expect a prompt response confirming how and when the refund will be processed. I look forward to your response and a satisfactory resolution. regards, M Pyke
We visited the famous thermal baths in Budapest on a Monday, opting for the €75 dayspa experience, with access to private cabins and space, and unfortunately it was a disappointment. The whole place was unbelievably overcrowded (we arrived at 1100) with people everywhere, almost like ants! It felt chaotic and far too busy to enjoy what should have been a relaxing spa experience. Rather than feeling peaceful or rejuvenated, we all found it quite overwhelming. The nicest part was doing a 50 minute swim in the length pool because it was the only place that wasn’t packed like sardines. The best part by far was the private section included in the day spa package. This was the only area where we could actually relax and enjoy ourselves. If you’re determined to visit and experience the famous baths, I would strongly recommend this option, as I can’t imagine enjoying the general admission experience given the crowds. I also wouldn’t recommend booking a treatment. The whole operation felt like a conveyor belt, with very little sense of personal attention or the relaxing atmosphere you’d expect from a spa. It’s certainly an iconic Budapest attraction, but for us, the reality didn’t live up to the hype. Far too commercialised, overcrowded and lacking the tranquillity that makes a spa experience special. Glad we experienced it, but definitely wouldn’t rush back!
Really good experience we shared as a family recently. There’s lots of different pools, saunas and spas. Overall the facilities were all clean and attended. Would definitely recommend choosing the upgrade option to have your own changing room for the day. One important note, the site (Viator) at the time of booking stated you could hire towels. This in fact is not possible, the spa hasn’t provided this service since covid. They suggest bringing your own towels, purchasing towels from the shop or there is a member of staff on the next floor down offering the purchase of towels for a much cheaper price. There was another option and that was to upgrade the pass we’d bought to include towels, slippers and some extra features.
Set aside several hours to enjoy the various pools. Private changing rooms are assigned to you, and you can lock your clothes and valuables inside while you are in the baths. You are expected to were footware (flip-flops, pool socks) while walking as opposed to barefooting it, so you should bring your own, but they are available there.
Good value for money and easily accessible. Good facilities. Outside swimming pool and spas are popular, clean & well maintained. Locker system is easy and shower facilities clean. As with many buildings of this age, parts are quite shabby and need refurbishment. All in all a pleasant morning! Don’t forget swim hat if you intend to swim in the pool and flip flops & towel. Although you can hire/buy if you need to.
What a great day to start a fall day on vacation in Budapest beautiful architectural building very clean and perfectly temperature water for everyone. Definitely beat all my expectations. Definitely worth getting the private cabin and I would also remind everyone to bring a towel and have flip-flops or water shoes.
Many others have shared about the overall spa experience, but I wanted to say that we did all of that and the beer spa as well-it was a blast. Yes, touristy and everyone there was from the USA, but still, a lot of fun. You get 45 minutes in a tub full of thermal water and some of the makings for beer, plus a keg and a small beer mug each to refill as necessary. Swim suits are a must, and yes, bring a towel, or you have to purchase one that's not much better than a Motel 6 towel. Go for the whole experience, relax and enjoy!
After traveling around Europe for three weeks, we really needed a relaxing day to unwind and relax. This exceeded our expectations and we were blessed with 70° F weather and sunshine. The outdoor pools are fantastic and very photogenic, but make sure you take advantage of the indoor pools sauna steam rooms and cold plunges. This will always be a memorable experience for us.
It was relaxing and fun. Bring 2 towels with you. The staff was helpful. The food and drinks were good.
We had a Fantastic experience at the Spa. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there relaxing and chilling out.
We were not really sure what to expect… it was a beautiful sunny day so lots of people using the main swimming pool and the large fun pool outside (the outdoor thermal pool was closed). There was a shortage of outdoor sun beds but we moved inside for quite a bit of the day, so did not really matter. Bring your own flip flops. You must wear them and if you don’t have them with you, you will have to buy them from their gift shop…. We were going to get robes but the queue was quite big so did not bother. It was fine to walk around in your swim wear. The pools inside are laid out in a line and all vary in size and temperature. We moved when we got cold but it was great just to people watch. We found most of the saunas busy. We had lunch there - it was cafeteria style. It was okay. We had cubicles instead of lockers so somewhere to leave your belongings etc. Overall a good day
Bring flip flops. Will make you purchase if you don’t have. It’s okay. I can. Now I can say I had the experience.
I want to start off by saying I love giving great reviews and almost never give a bad review until now. It looks nice in photos but go somewhere else. There are other thermal spas in Budapest. Szechenyi is grossly overbooked which completely ruins the spa experience. The one thermal pool had a sign saying the capacity was 112 people and we counted over 180 in it. The saunas and steams were packed and you had to wait to get a seat sitting next to wall to wall people. (It was low season). We were given flip flops which are mandatory but they gave my husband a huge size and he could barely walk in them. When we asked for a different size we were refused! We booked the Flavours of Joy package which was to get us a private room, charcuterie plate and drink. I booked online and also spoke through email with the spa staff who helped me with the booking. When we arrived they said they couldn’t give us the private room because it was closed for the season and would not compensate us. Never again.
Indoor baths had lots of debris ? floating in water, seen in first 3 so didnt continue to any others.
I love hot Springs and this was one of the best I’ve ever been to. It is a must on your trip to Budapest
A lovely spa. Loved the pools.
Total rip off. They make you buy a towel and pool shoes. The place is very crowded and falling apart. Looks like it hasn’t had any maintenance in years. Go to a smaller one and get a good day’s soak.
I had booked this for a Sunday morning at 09:00. The sun was shining and there was no que so we were able to go straight in. We had booked a cabin which was smaller than I thought it would be, but still perfectly adequate. The thermal baths were everything I hoped they would be.
One of the large outdoor pools was closed which we weren’t informed about ahead of time. Everyone crowded around the main pool area and lounge chairs were hard to come by. It seemed way too busy for having a pool closed. One of the indoor pools was not clean water, so we didn’t risk going into other pools indoors. We went for the experience….but we wouldn’t ever go again.
Hi had a lovely day at the spa, got there at 0900, got a sunbed and then went to all the pools steam room etc- lots to choose from. had a sandwich lunch and a drink which was reasonable. we opted for the lockers which was great to leave stuff and valuables. The water in the toilets and showers stopped but were quickly repaired but didnt ruin our day and we had the bonus of 29c. it is an old spa so some pools looked grubby but this may be wear and tear
Too many people, one pool closed and another one converted to lanes for people to swim lengths meant it felt very crowded in the remaining outside pool. The indoor pools were also quite busy. The water in the pools was great at 27 degrees. The thing that struck me most was how dilapidated the building is, such potential has been allowed to deteriorate which is a great shame.
I feel like this is a “take it or leave it” experience when in Hungary. I had seen the most of the city by the time I went. Hung out for a few hours and it was fine.
Excellent day enjoying the pools. The weather was beautiful and the temps in the pools were delicious
the spa was very easy to find. we took the underground from the center and it took us direct to the spa. Very easy to get into and changes rooms were clean. the water felt amazing and we wondered through the facility to check out other pools and saunas. Had a nice wine on the patio.
We had so much fun! Very unique experience. The place is large with lots of options. Can be overwhelming. The staff could be a bit more knowledgeable when answering guest questions. One large outdoor pool was closed making it more crowded in the other pool. I am not sure we received the experience we paid for in advance. Worth visiting
We enjoyed our morning at the spa but was disappointed that the main pool was closed and we were not notified before booking. Due to the closure the other pools were very crowded. The highlight was the beer spa... Thermal bath with your own keg tap :) Bring your own towels and flip-flops. You can buy them there but sizing is limited and they are not cheap.
Go prepared with the right footwear and hair ties etc. hiring a cabin was a great option. Look on the website and do your homework as it tells what is closed for regular maintenance.
One of the outdoor pools was closed. Cabin usage was confusing. Otherwise we had a great experience with friends.
If you want to go to an extremely crowded and very dirty thermal spa then come here. The smell was terrible and there were literally bandaids floating in the pools. We stayed for about 15 minutes and had to get out because it was so disgusting.
Fantastic day at a beautiful Spa. Many pools Lovely facility . Don’t miss this opportunity. The wave pool is fun
Fun times in the water, loved the outside baths, inside not so much. Go early, we got in at 9 and was already hard to get a lounge, by lunch when we left was really full. The whirlpool was so fun running with the current, had a fun time with an aqua instruction class, great music and energy, most of pool joined in! Outside is quite shabby which is a surprise, but inside is very clean and well kept. Nice walk thru park to find it
A great spa! Lots of options. Disappointed that the main thermal bath was under repair. We understand the need for maintenance. However, as tourists who booked online it would have been appreciated to know this. Thank you.
Glad we went. Huge beautiful place and took advantage of both large pools, sauna, steam room, hot thermal baths. There is no orientation briefing to tell you what is where or what you do and do not have access to given your ticket. But- decent signage and some walking around and you figure it out. Recommend you try this or similar.
We had a basic package without the extras. We arrived by 9.15 am and managed to find some beds outside in the sun. There were a number of closed pools and saunas but plenty open. My favourite was a citrus sauna. By midday I was ready to go.
Was cautious of this experience based on low rated reviews. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! The changing cabins were clean and spacious. It would have been nice if they would have been closer together (we had 4 in total). The outdoor bath was phenomenal and clean. The inside pools left something to be desired but we just limited our time in there.
Absolutely loved relaxing in the thermal baths, we were just unlucky that a few where not in use due to maintenance.
Went at 11am .. Indoor pool Closed .. whirl pool outside closed The baths are being renovated.. worth a trip, to see the architecture . Got stung by man ourside selling swimming caps to beware
One of the main outdoor pools was closed making the remaining outdoor pool very crowded. The facility is old and the atmosphere inside is far from luxurious. If you are on limited time absolutely no need to visit. It is best for local people who are not on time schedule.
My friend and I love to travel so when we decided to go to Budapest, we wanted to try the thermal spas. These were very nice
The other Hungarian soup - grossly overpriced! Expected much more for the price paid. Sadly very disappointed with this after many great experiences throughout our trip to Europe.
Enjoyed the experience Very well organised, cabin useful to get changed and leave clothes in Busy so advise getting there for 9
Trip advisor rips you off on this. DO NOT BOOK with them, book directly with the baths. The experience itself was ok, baths are tired, crowded and expensive. Although the experience is unique to Budapest so interesting to see and the water is certainly hot.
Went on a rainy Friday mid Sept, booked thru Viator as they seemed to offer any time of day ticket whereas the official site only seemed to offer am or after 3pm tickets. Anyway there was no need to prebook and pay an agent premium as there was no queue arriving just after midday (but you don’t know until you get there). We booked cabin tickets which for a small premium was worth it, you can safely leave your belongings in the small individual changing cabin and the wristband activates your individual lock. Most of the pools, sauna’s & steam rooms are inside and the outdoor pools are very warm so the weather outside is irrelevant. It was a great experience totally different to site seeing and ruining bars, just a little overpriced. Be brave and do both the hot pools and the freezing cold ones, you’ll get the best experience. You will need flipflops or similar and a towel. Staff were helpful to get you to your cabin. The Metro station is 1 minute walk to the entrance, Metro is very easy to navigate & cheap
We enjoyed the spa experience. We stayed for over 3 hours. It was very disappointing though, to find that one third of the outdoor pools were closed for renovations. This resulted in more people in the only other spa outdoor pool. ( the entrance price was not reduced to reflect this) We explored the indoor pools but they were extremely busy and the water/ baths looked dirty. It's worth arriving early to ensure that you get a sun lounger. We also paid a little extra for a 'cabin' to change in and store all our bags in safely. We felt that this was worth paying the little bit extra for.
We would have enjoyed the spa a lot more had it not been ruined by the relaisation that tripadvisor had charged us over £50 for something that cost £30 had we booked directly with the spa. Just search for the spa online and book directly with them. Also, you don't need a cabin each, you can get one cabin and take turns to get changed in it, and keep all your stuff in there.
Definitely a beautiful location. Go to the right and they scan your ticket and give you a watch like wrist band. Directions weren’t always clear. Like how do you pay for a drink once in there? Don’t know but also didn’t try, to be fair. It was very crowded but that was fine. Don’t forget to bring flip flops and a towel ( which you can buy there if you forget). And you’ll need a swim cap if you want to swim lengths.
The indoor baths water were really dirty, the stuff floating in them really made me feel a bit nasty 😕. I don't know if they were due being cleaned or if it had been very busy the morning we went, but I certainly don't remember the water being as filthy when we went the previous year. The outdoor bath that was open (the second was under construction) was much cleaner and more pleasant. Only so many sunloungers, so the earlier you are the better chance of getting one.
Nostalgic buildings & so many baths, saunas & plunge pools from which to choose! Please provide more loungers/chairs
