Great afternoon experience.
Very nice museum. Brings back a lot of memories. A bit pricey.
Such an amazing experience. Found this place by accident. Loved the interactive nature of the exhibit. The amount of exhibited things was astounding. We were absolutely amazed. The staff was also very nice. There was also an option to taste Bamboo drink at the bar, which we loved. 🩷
Fab experience especially as we could relate to some of it being in our 50s.
ITS overpriced nice Museum but too expensive for what IT is and it need a lot of fixing
Very good and interesting. interactive with the little house doors to open. My husband loved the television section with the old cameras as similar ones were used in Australia.
Great place to visit. We could remember a lot of the exhibits and we had a great time reliving them
We had a fantastic time at the Retro Museum in Budapest! It was fascinating to step back into everyday life during the socialist era. The exhibits are thoughtfully presented, with everything from household items and fashion to cars and interactive displays that really bring the period to life. The museum strikes a great balance between being informative and entertaining, making it enjoyable for both adults and older children. We spent much longer there than we had expected because there was so much to see and explore.
Very interesting museum; some incredible artefacts; it shows what life was like back in the communist era. Unfortunately, some of the exhibits did not work, but all the same, still a very interesting experience; driving the Police Car proved way more difficult than first impressions and probably the car handled badly then as now. Try it its fun and interesting
A wonderful museum full of artefacts from days gone by and a real look into Hungary’s past, but some items you will recollect like the mobile phone display and spotting the ones you used to use, in general a great museum with lots to see and do well worth a visit
Nice small space, but you need to be from Hungary to fully appreciate it. Still nice artefacts from the past.
Most of the 'interactive' exhibits did not work. Especially in English. Some interesting old toys, food packaging and you got to open and close cupboard doors (this makes it interactive) I love museums and this has to be one of the worst excuses for a museum. This is a terrific topic and could be done well...Sadly, it isn't. Keep your money or better still give it to someone else. You'll feel better than spending it here. (I don't usually write negative reviews but this one is truly a tourist trap with no conscience. )
This is a great museum to visit while in Budapest as it has many displays (interactive too) of how life was like during much of the twentieth century. One will experience via photos, video and audio presentations and artifacts the life and times that people in Hungary lived during this time. There is also a recreation of a television studio and typical apartment that one will see. One must also cite the creative way many of the displays are created -- pertinent objects are exhibited in displays that are reminiscent of the large, gray apartment housing built during the communist era. Much to see and highly recommended.
My take away from my visit to this museum was : for those growing up in the east, it's a trip down memory lane. For those growing up in the west, it's a shock that our friends in the east were sitting on cozy sofas, watching colour TV, just with different propaganda, and regime.
Very retro feeling. Like walking back in time. So many memories if you are old enough. If not, fun to see what your older family members experienced. Multiple languages. Very interactive.
Some really interesting bits here all diaplayed nicely with some interactive parts. The toys and food were fun to see, imagine a local will appreciate more but if a tourist it will keep you busy on a rainy day
One of our favourite museums EVER! It is extremely cleverly designed and full of ha-ha as it recreated everything from soviet era phone booths to bathrooms. It was interactive allowing us to sit in Lada police cars, direct rockets from a communist space control centre and read the news from a 1960’s era tv station. We had a hoot!!!
Very interesting look at items that look extremely different today. Our teens enjoyed this experience..
This is a lovely little museum but I think that people who have lived during the soviet times would get more out of it. As tourists I felt it was costly for the amount of time actually spent in the museum.
Very cool and lots of things to look at. Mostly items to look at with a little description explaining them. Lockers available for free to leave bags and coats. Most items had english explanations. There were a couple of interactive things eg. a car driving simulator and a mock news desk, but perhaps more would be expected with the word interactive in the name. Staff were nice and we got a drink in the restaurant which was good.
Very interesting step through time. The cafe was a bonus. The bartender/server was so welcoming. Definitely worth a visit
Great place with a lot o things to see, remember and enjoy the past…I wish I visited this before the other light art museum which makes the retro museum superior… Staff are nice and friendly …
Our childhood in a museum. Absolutely entertaining at least for those who have seen these old products. For foreigners I would recommend a guide.
Everythig was good!! The old jokes are very funny!! There is a buffet. It has very good, tasty foods!! I ate a ham pie, and I got full!!
There isn't an audio guide and there are very few signs/explanations in either Hungarian or English. If you lived in a soviet state you'll probably recognize a lot of stuff and enjoy this museum. If not, you probably won't get much out of it. But the short "sports" video of a "gymnastic" event is very entertaining.
Interesting museum that gives some insight of life in Budapest from the 50’s to the fall of the Iron Curtain in the early 90’s through various artefacts and recreation scenes. Try the dial-a-joke in the phone boxes for some period humour. The diner in the foyer looks fun.
Very fun and interactive museum. I would recommend visiting to anyone that enjoys the retro esthetic or wants to see some interesting things from everyday life from before a couple of decades.
A really entertaining peak into Budapest's recent past with lots to look at and interactive displays, most of which had English options. There were also some nice mocked up scenes including a living room, kitchen, news desk and police car that you could pose in for photographs. Everything was new and worked well. Expect to spend 1.5 to 2 hours there to see everything.
Budapest retro interactive museum was a one hour fun experience. We were 2 adults that had in childhood Comodor computers... and our kids, age 18 and 21 liked the museum as well.
retro museum doesn’t the hype it deserves. super cool museum , totally interactive exactly how a museum should be. with a great retro sweet stall and cafe at the entrance. fascinating insight into life in the soviet era in hungary. we loved it!
super cool museum, love everything and the fact that is VERY interactive. u find very unexpected things and very interesting!!
A unique and extremely captivating experience. The museum is interactive and very well thought out. It is worth all the money, and for people who have lived in countries that have been through communism it is pure nostalgia. I highly recommend it
I walked through this museum with mixed feelings. As a child, I experienced the era that was presented here. You could touch many of the exhibits, sit in a car, stand on the stands where the May Day parade passed, or sit in a television studio. For young people, this museum can be an interesting look into recent history. But only the older generation knows what all the exhibited objects were used for and what they meant. The entrance fee for an adult was 5500 HUF.
This museum is wonderful , there is so much to do and see, and the best thing about it is you can touch and join in whereas in most museums you can only look. We absolutely loved it, especially when we pretended to read the news.
We loved it. Won’t be for everyone but a great overview in a fun way of everything 1950-1990. Interactive and plenty to see and do. Can do 30 mins or 2 hours. Not the easiest to find but really nice inside and lovely service as well. Interactive Lada police car plus a few other extras. Good value
Old museum of retro stuff from Communist era Budapest. Cool to look round for an hour to kill some time. They have an old police car you can drive in a simulator which is cool.
If I have half hour or hour to kill this is good fun. We were waiting to go in somewhere else and needed to kill a bit of time and we cld spend as much or as little time as we wanted in there. Had some laughs.
Museum that immerses you back in the communist era. Interactive English is essential to enjoy it
It's a trip back in time. A very rich museum where every detail is taken care of We highly recommend it!
Excellent interactive museum - enjoyed by the whole family. Very atmospheric, many interesting details from the life of Hungary in past decades: machinery, cars, interiors, shops, television. The exposition is lively and not boring at all - even the teenager was interested. Spent about an hour and a half and time flew by unnoticed. Definitely recommended!
Museum very nice. It is explained the history of Hungary, old objects tracing the life of Hungarians really nice to do. We had a great time
Nagyon jo ez. Volt egy élmény ennél több nem is kéne tényleg
Very nice museum, hundreds of objects, videos, cars, reconstructions of living rooms of the time. Lockers to open to discover objects from the past. Unfortunately we arrived from the opening in the morning. Between 2 very noisy groups, difficult to circulate or hear the animations. A little small to accommodate so many people at once. And then after the GDR museum in Berlin, it's hard to give an opinion.
Beautiful return to the past the thing quickly annoying the opening of the small doors a little too much were not to laugh
While the House of Terror addresses the same theme in a sinister register, the retro museum prefers to look back on Hungary’s Communist period with lightness and humor. Many very kitch objects. We're having a good time.
Great experience! So many memories to remember. 1 or 2 things were badly explained under did not work.
Small and fine museum. Especially interesting for those who have experienced the "old days" themselves. How quickly time flies and how quickly technology has evolved...
