We did a tour with Andy. He was an Awesome tour guide. He knew all about the wine industry in Budapest and his knowledge of the Palace District and the best food in the area was impressive. One of the best tours we did in Budapest.

Itinerary
Palace District (Palota Negyed, VIII). Combine food, drinks, and history during this evening out in one of Budapest’s most charming and fascinating neighborhoods, the Palace Quarter (Palota Negyed, in the eight district). The magnificent old palaces in this neighborhood perfectly communicate the history of Hungary from the 1800s through the present. You’ll eat and drink well on this tour, while experiencing the laid-back vibes and stunning architecture of this neighborhood, which is now home to several universities.
We'll meet at the wine cellar for an introduction to the neighborhood, a wine tasting with our sommelier (3 wines), and a selection of local cheese and charcuterie.
Palace District (Palota Negyed, VIII). After meeting at the Tasting Table, where our sommelier will introduce you to some wines (paired with a platter of charcuterie and local cheeses), we’ll graze on a variety of dishes and drinks at five more venues in the district. Other tasting stops include snacks at a bakery run by a family who has been in the business since 1870; a pálinka inside a fun courtyard bar; gulyás and appetizers at a neighborhood bistro; and dessert at an old coffeehouse.

We had the best time with Andy! Our group of 4 ended up being the only people on the tour and it felt like hanging out with a friend that knew a ton of great info! The drinks and food were all delicious and we got to try everything we wanted, while also learning a lot about the area. If you like good wine, great stories, and delicious food - this tour is a must!
One of the absolute highlights of this tour was our guide, Anok (hopefully I remembered the name correctly). She was incredibly knowledgeable, social, and engaging, and truly made the whole experience special. Her passion for Budapest’s history and culture really came through, and she created such a warm and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the evening. The wines were excellent, and we loved getting to try authentic Hungarian food that we probably would never have discovered on our own. Everything felt genuine and thoughtfully chosen. If you are considering this tour, I highly recommend it — especially if you get lucky enough to have Anok as your guide!
A fantastic tour! We met our guide Angela at Taste Hungary, expecting to be part of a small group. As it turned out, we were the only customers for the evening, and had a great private tour! We started at Taste Hungary, tasting several wines and learning about Hungary's various wines and areas of cultivation. We then proceeded to several excellent local restaurants in the Palace District, wrapping up with dessert in the elegant cafe of the Hotel Astoria. Throughout, Angela provided a great running narrative of the history of the district, the various palaces, and Budapest in general. The food was uniformly excellent. Highly recommend!
Great tour. Our guide was fabulous and enjoyed the food and drinks. Tour giuide gave outstanding history and understanding of Hungarian food.
Our guide was excellent. She knew her history, but didn’t inundate us with it. She understood we were there to have some fun and get some knowledge. We started at a wine shop. The young man who educated us on the history of Hungarian wine really knew his subject.. Enjoyed the red wine in particular and the charcuterie tray. Truly enjoyed the other stops on this tour, especially the last one for dessert.
Tour began with informative wine tastings and hors d’œuvres, then a stroll around historic Pest learning the significance of many buildings with stops for snacks and drinks. Then a delicious meal at a non-touristy restaurant. After another walk we ended at a traditional cafe for typical Hungarian pastries.
Excellent tour. Our guide was Angela. She was very knowledgeable about the food and wines we tried. And, she provided lots of history of the area. Our group had 6 people, so it was very manageable. The food highlight was the ghoulash soup, very tasty and warming. We visited about 5 different restaurants and bars.
My wife and I went on the “Palace District Evening Culinary & Wine Walk, with a Side of History.” Our guide was Aniko. This was our third program with Taste Hungary; on a previous visit to Budapest, we went to one of their wine-tasting dinners, and a tour of vineyards on the way from Budapest to Vienna. On this tour, we brought along other family members. We started off with a delicious charcuterie board and wine tasting at the Tasting Table. The tour was like a multi-course dinner, except that different courses were consumed in different establishments, with the final stop a hotel known for its pastries. There was not too much walking — a good thing as it was raining steadily on the evening we went. It was a delicious taste of the city, and it was our third great experience with Taste Hungary.
A very enjoyable evening . We started off with a tutored tasting of 3 excellent Hungarian wines with Carlo( sp?,) a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic sommelier, accompanied with cheese, sausage and something new to us, bread dipped in pumpkin seed oil. Anika ( sp?) led us on the tour of the Palace district of Pest with an excellent historical and social commentary. We visited a pub in the student district for a froccs, a charming patio restaurant for goulash and a generous charcuterie platter with accompanying wines, a Palinka bar and finished the evening at the historical Astoria cafe for a lovely dessert platter. This was a walking tour, and having just arrived in Budapest, we found this a very pleasant way to help get over jet lag
Wonderful experience. Wine tasting, appetizers, and history of Hungarian wines at their shop and then walking tour with food and wine stops in the Palace district with a dinner stop and then a dessert/coffee stop. Fantastic!
We have lived in Budapest for the last four years - on the same road as the Tasting Table store and cellar (part of Taste Hungary). We got to meet Gabor, Carolyn and many of the staff over the years and attended various tasting events - they've never let us down. In July 2024, we had a friend visting us in Budapest and decided it would be fun to try the wine walk and tour of our neighbourhood. Again, an excellent experience. Our tour guide, Sarlotta was very knowledgeable and a really fun, cool person. We learned a lot of new things about the Palace quarter. Wine & food great, as always!
A lovely evening with our guide - sorry I have forgotton your name! - adapted the tour to our preferneces and we saw much more than we would have if we had ventured out alone.
What a fabulous way to see great, authentic bars and restaurants in Budapest. The places she picked were perfect! Lelah was a very knowledgeable and fun guide too!
Original food and friendliness. Had a little too much history of city. Guide was very friendly. He knew his way about town.
This was a great way to see the city and get the high points of the places to go. We were able to taste the Hungarian dishes and finish with the traditional Hungarian desserts.
What a great combination - we were lucky enough to have one guide between the two of us, she made the night, very knowledgeable, fun and took us to the largest ruin bar on the way past too - highly recommend. I booked a wine tasting for tomorrow evening for my mum and daughter but didn't realise there's a discount for returning customers so look out for that if it applies
Great experience, both the food, the guide and the company of other travellers. Highly recommend for people who like mixing history with good food and wine.
I did the dinner walk tour by myself just before Christmas and I had a great time! It was a really nice small group, our guide Barbara was just lovely, and we had tons of delicious traditional food and wine at several different spots in close proximity. I'd definitely do another Taste Hungary tour my next time in Budapest!
This was an awesome. Barbara was our guide, she was fun and knowledgeable. Great way to see Budapest.
What a wonderful evening - exceeded expectations. Host Angela was knowledgeable, kind and funny. The food and wine were fabulous. We visited 4 different locations - felt like a progressive dinner party through the streets of Budapest. Choice of food and wine throughout and it was wonderful moving through the districts. Great way to meet like minded travelers also. Highly recommend.
This was a great experience. We were taken to different pubs and restaurants and had the opportunity to taste several original dishes and wines. All the meals were great and our tour guide was very knowledgeable when it came to the meals and the wines also the history. Would do it again.
Wonderful experience. Our guide was knowledgable and friendly. She talked about Budapest history and as we walked from restaurant to restaurant she pointed out local places of interest. We were treated to wonderful food and wine. The tour began at a wine shop with 3 different wines and a charcuterie tray of local cheese, sausages and bread. Next stop was a local restaurant where we had the choice of 2 different soups, bread and wine. Soups were delicious. Next stop was a local Hungarian restaurant that served great Hungarian food. Huge portions and very good. Last stop was an eclectic coffee shop where we tried 3 traditional cakes and a cup of tea. When we got back to the hotel we highly recommended this adventure to the other Viking passengers.
David was a wonderful host for an evening of great food, visiting the synagogue and Ruins bars, and introduction to Hungarian wines. We had a terrific dinner of a variety of Hungarian stews and lovely desserts.
We had a wonderful time with David - our tour guide. We tasted Hungarian wines and authentic Hungarian goulash, stews and desserts. We also learned much about history and culture of Budapest and Hungary. Would highly recommend if you are a foodie!
Don't hesitate for a second to book this tour!!! We had a fabulous evening that was well beyond expectations. Our guide Andrea was terrific. We enjoyed each course with matching wine selections - right from the appetizer at the Taste of Hungary headquarters to the final dessert and coffee at Callas Coffee House. It was top notch. The food was excellent, and a great summary experience for our time in Budapest. We really appreciated the history and knowledge we collected along the way. You feel really immersed in the feel of Budapest - and venture into areas that you might normally miss. We had a great chacutterie board to start, mixed berry soup/guyash at our second stop; a selection of entrees (venison stew, catfish with noodles wrapped in bacon, Leshko with sausage) at our third. Sampled Unicom at a ruin bar - and decadent desserts at our final stop. Who could ask for more? Many Thanks to Andrea, David and Tom
David was a great host and we had a wonderful time with the other three people drinking wine , eating , and learning all about Hungarian history. The food was fantastic and more than plenty to eat including dessert. David suggested fantastic wine pairing for the various dishes but would find you something else if you didn’t care for the suggestion. Hopefully you get a lively group like our that is willing to share the various dishes and desserts. Thank you for a wonderful evening David
Lots of great local cuisine, wines, some interesting history and lots of laughs. They go out of their way to make it a wonderful adventure. Thanks especially to our guide Barbara. Super.
Andrea was one of the best Viator tour guides. We stopped at 6 different locations for food, beverage, and an historical perspective. More food and wine than imaginable.
Great tour/dinner walk with super knowledgeable guide. Food and local information were wonderful. Highly recommend.
This may be a little critical, but I can't give it 5 stars. I have to say that everything about the tour was excellent, except the entree's at the main restaurant. The initial meetup with our guide Elza, with wine tasting, charcuterie, etc. was a great start. She is an excellent guide and so knowledgeable. The first stop at a family run restaurant for goulash and matzo ball soup was wonderful. The next stop was a ruin bar, one of the oldest in Budapest, was a unique and interesting experience. The next stop for entree's was the let down. We ordered 5 different dishes to share and I have to say that they were disappointing. They were all served luke warm and in a couple of dishes the meat was tough and undercooked, flavors were average. The wines served, pastry and coffee were good. Did we have a good time, yes. Would I do it again, no. Having some of the same entree's at other restaurants later in the trip were much better.
This was an excellent adventure into the world of Hungarian food and was spiced with pertinent tidbits of Hungarian history. Elza our guide was wonderful. Extremely personable with a vast knowledge of local cuisine, wines and history of the region. Definitely a must if you visit Budapest!
I loved everything about the evening! Eszter was phenomenal host and provided so many interesting Information. The selection of food, locations and wine. Plus the group itself. Worth it and must do to get to know Budapest!
Andrea was a perfect host, guide and companion. I would request her for anyone booking this in the future.
George, our tour guide, has a funny personality and knows every restaurant in the city! Do not eat prior to going on the tour, it's a lot of food. We started at a wine bar with 4 different wines and appetizers. Received an overview of the Hungarian wine region and a map. Then went to course two. Best goulash soup in the city!!!!! It was amazing. The wine paired was good too. Then to the main course. More delicious wine and a full seize entree serving of food. The menu to choose from had a large variety! The next stop was at a ruin bar for a digestive. George explained the history and concept of the ruin bars and the Jewish area. Then we went for dessert and coffee at one of the best cafe's in town. Desserts were delicious. Would recommend this tour and would book the same tour again. Our tour guide also knew about other eateries and venues and gave some great recommendations.
We set this trip up for our first night in Budapest to get an overview of the city and food and we were not disappointed! Daniel was an extremely knowledgeable guide. Not only did he have a great understanding of local food but also added a walking tour as well. The food was awesome and gave us a taste of classic Hungarian food and ideas for the balance of our stay. I highly recommend this tour for any visitor. There is some walking but most of the walking is on level ground. One of the best tours during our 2-1/2 weeks in Europe
I had the pleasure of doing 2 tours with Taste Hungary, and both were phenomenal. The restaurants, markets, and beer/wine/spirits selections are all curated with great effort by the team. Specifically, Zsofia does an amazing job of making sure that you try the best, unique food that you prefer, and that there are no repeats; Sebastian at The Tasting Table Budapest is very passionate and knowledgable about the delicious and Hungarian wine, which is an awesome experience. I strongly recommend the Dinner Walk and Culinary Walk, but I believe that all services provided by Taste Hungary will be perfect. Thank you.
It was a great tour led by our very knowledgeable guide Jofia, she was very informative, provided a glimpse of the history of Hungarian food while visiting a lot of great venues and telling interesting stories about Hungarian wine. A must do!
This was a wonderful food tour. Our guide jofia went above and beyond all expectations. She was an amazing tour guide with lots of good and interesting information. Food and drink were so yummy and plentiful. I loved all the places we visited and our fun and personable guide made the experience that much better. I highly recommend this experience.
This was a great way to be able to taste some very authentic dishes and check out restaurants that you may not have found on your own. Our group was a bit larger than ideal (at 8 people; 4 - 6 would be better) but our guide (Sara? Sonya?- sorry that I cannot remember) was great at making sure she connected with all of us. The appetizer charcuterie board was a bit on the small side but as the main courses were so large this ended up being a very good thing. We shared 4 different main dish options (2 plates of each for 8 total dishes plus some salads and pickles) family style so we could sample more items and this worked very well. Soups at our second stop were delicious and the final place for dessert near the opera house was a nice ending. There was plenty of wine to go with each course. Our guide was super helpful and wrote down specific suggestions re things to do/see that would appeal to our individual interests for each of us to take away. This would be a good tour to do on your first or second day in Budapest so that you can get insider info on what else to do with your time (and have a few ideas of restaurants that you might want to re-visit on your own).
So glad we booked the 4 hour walking food tour. Our local guide Sara was excellent, we went to several restaurants in the jewish quarters they wee fantastic. food sooo good. e hit a ruin bar and a café for coffee and cake to end the evening. She showed us the sites a long the way, very knowledgeable . had fun. plus the few people in ou group were great. a dr form Sri lanka who lives in scottland, a couple from London, 2 friend from London neet way to meet people form all over the world. Highly recommend
The tour begins with charcuterie and wine at the tasting table. The staff were very knowledgeable and willing to share the stories of the wine and the region it was grown in. A further two courses with more wine at two nearby restaurants was an opportunity to try local food as recommended by our guide. A quick stop at a ruin bar and dessert in a beautiful cafe by the opera rounded the whole experience off. This was one of many very enjoyable meals we had during our stay but was by far the most entertaining with lots of stories of the local area, history and people to accompany our food. This is a great way to see the city and get the inside track on what to order and why. I’d especially recommend the goulash soup at the second stop....seriously delicious.
Very well done. Knowledgeable guide. Very entertaining. The guide wove in history and geography of Hungary into the food and wine we were sampling. It gave me a better appreciation of the country and it's history
One of our favorite foodie tours, and we've had many! Lila (sp?) was our tour guide and she was excellent! Do not eat before the tour as you'll have plenty of food! Like a progressive dinner, we experienced wine tasting in a bistro, then on to several courses at different restaurants and even a popular local bar. It was a wonderful evening shared with a great tour guide and another American from Florida. Highly recommended in one of our favorite European cities!
Superb evening and please do not have a heavy meal in the day as there will be a ton of food throughout the tour! One of our best dinner at their selected restaurant with their must try in house lemonade! Highly recommended and our guide Daniel was pretty awesome!
Ailsa was a very knowledgeable and personable guide. We enjoyed her company and the tour experiencing traditional food and beverages. We would recommend her and the experience. Thank you Ailsa
Angela was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. it was a wonderful introduction into the food of Hungary and gave us loads of great places to visit during the rest of our visit. thankyou!
Our dinner tour with Leila was on our first night in Budapest, and it was so nice not to have to find a place to eat on our own. Leila was a lovely guide, and she shared so much about her city with us as we walked from place to place. Plenty of food and wine (or soft drinks if you choose), and a perfect introduction to the city and Hungarian cuisine. Highly recommend!
We absolutely loved our dinner and drinking city tour with Andrew. It was ever better than the food tour we had in Prague (which was great, too, BTW). Everything was delicious and at some stops we got to choose from a well-curated list of dishes and wines. Andrew was a fun, knowledgeable, and thoughtful host (BTW: we were actually on the same dinner mentioned by the reviewer who was hurt by a comment made by the host. We are sorry that she took it that way, but we totally agree with the explanation offered---what Andrew said was an attempt at humor---he was actually complimenting her). The food is to die for. You should totally take this tour---and ask for Andrew!
I was really looking forward to this tour, as I go on a food tour everywhere I visit, great way to meet people and eat food. I arrived after a day of travel and during introductions the guide, Andrew, made a comment about how he could tell I was a teacher because of my glasses and greasy hair... That comment was really uncalled for and made me feel awkward and uncomfortable the rest of the tour. The food was yummy and he did know a lot but my night was tainted by that.
