Budapest Overview Private Tour

Called them in the evening after 8pm local time via WhatsApp. Got the response back. We inquired pricing for our group of 11 people. Got the reasonable pricing, we booked with them. Guide showed up to our hotel in the morning. It was an amazing experience with them. Petra was amazing guide, amazing with kids and very friendly. Don’t miss them when you need a guide.

Had such a wonderful time with Anita, the history she shared with us about Budapest and Hungary was amazing. We would definitely use her again and hope to in the next couple years return.

I meant to post this review a long time ago, but from the more recent reviews, it's clear that people are still appreciating the personal touch that we received when we booked with Budapest Locals. Our tour guide, Kinga, was outstanding - very knowledgeable, showed us how to get around using the tram system, and guided us to the key highlights on both sides of the city. We saw and learned so much, and appreciated her warmth and insights very much.

Anita was a great tour guide. She gave us a great history of Hungary as we showed us some of the sights of Budapest. She was able to adjust the tour to our interests and was able to adjust the itinerary as we went. She gave us a great overview of Budapest, and gave us tips when we wanted to go back on subsequent days to spend more time at some of our favorite sites. She also had great bar/restaurant recommendations. We are so glad we had Anita help us get oriented in Budapest. I highly recommend Anita and Budapest local.

Anita's tour came strongly recommended by my parents and my uncle, who had taken the Budapest Overview tour before. They were so right! It felt like from the moment we landed in Budapest we had a longtime family friend to show us around and give us tips. Anita customized the tour based on our interests and background, shared TONS of personalized recommendations, and even checked in with us throughout the week to see how we were doing and answer any questions.

Anita was a spectacular guide, very fun and knowledgeable. Budapest has so much to offer and so much to see and learn about. Anita showed us some highlights and mapped out other places for us to explore on our own. And the streudel!!! YUM!

One of the best tour experiences we’ve ever had anywhere. Petra was incredibly brilliant and super easy to talk to/plan with. We had 3 kids with us + the grandparents. It went flawlessly. Our kids loved Petra… I have many photos of her holding their hands walking through Budapest. 100% recommend.

We were on a 5 week tour of major European cities and booked tours (some group, some private) at each location. Our entire experience with Budapest Locals was one of our top tours on this journey. It starts with great communication from Anita. We learned on this adventure that tour companies that don’t communicate with you before your experience consistently end up giving sub-par tours. Anita made sure to touch base before the tour reminding us of what to expect, when/where to meet which made for a seamless experience. Our guide, Petra, was one of our favorite guides we had in Europe. She met us at our hotel and as we were starting our tour, we walked past a building next to our hotel that had a restaurant in it that we hadn’t noticed. She said she highly recommended it, asked if we’d like to eat there after our day of touring and then went in and made a reservation for us. This restaurant was so good, we went back for a second meal (the only time we did so in all 5 weeks of traveling). And the day just kept getting better from there. We saw so much, Petra gave us great information on not just the sites we were seeing, but wherever the conversation and our interests about Budapest went. We saw far more than we thought we could cover in 4 hours and she gave us great recommendations for the rest of our days In Budapest. We cannot recommend this tour company highly enough and would re-book in a heartbeat if we are ever lucky enough to find ourselves back in beautiful Budapest.

Anita was a pleasure to work with. She created a full-day tour of Budapest that met our needs completley. Andi was our guide and she could not have been better. She provided local information not found in guidebooks. The overall package included lunch at a restaurant along our route. I highly recommend this tour operator.

This is an excellent tour company that we highly recommend. We hired them for a few days for private tours. Our tour guide did an excellent job. On the first day our flight was delayed but she waited in the lobby of the hotel so that we wouldn't miss out on some sightseeing. She was very flexible each day on what we did and answered all of my in-laws questions. More important, the tour company did an excellent job communicating before, during, and even after the tour.

Andi was an exemplary private tour guide. She took us through Buda and Pest, the west and east sides of the Danube River, respectively, on one of our favorite tours of our whirlwind 12-country trip—mainly because Andi is young and energetic, she read the description I wrote them of our interests, and she had an educated perspective on the history and current economy that was stimulating and refreshing. She was able to artfully take us through the ostensible façade of the city—one that a cynic would say does not have a defined identify and is still attempting to rebuild and evolve after the physical and socioeconomic tolls mainly taken by WWII. However, through our flowing discussions with Andi, we ultimately appreciated Budapest for a city of a resilient people—people who fatally rebelled against the unbeatable USSR on 25 Oct 1956, and people who understand the limitations of the current government and economy, yet are able to see the opportunities to live a thriving life in a beautiful city.

Highly recommend Budapest Locals!! We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids ages 5-11), and we traveled to Budapest for the first time in April 2023. We booked two half-day tours (Budapest Overview and Hidden Gems) and we enjoyed every minute of our tours! The tours were very well-planned and executed. We saw all the major sites, plus more, and learned a lot about the city and history of Budapest. Our tour guide, Petra, was absolutely amazing! We felt so comfortable with her and our kids warmed up to her very quickly. By the 2nd day, she was like a good friend showing us around. Our kids say she was the best tour guide!

Petra our guide was amazing. We spent four hours seeing the sights of Budapest. Petra worked at our pace and was incredibly knowledgable. We started the day knowing very little about the city but by early afternoon had a great overview of the different areas, key historical events and key landmarks. We enjoyed every minute and would thoroughly recommend.

Had a great tour with Andi! The communication between us and the company was very good (and comforting) Andi was on time and outlined the tour prior to leaving the hotel. Her knowledge of the city and its history was excellent, she was easy to understand and she was very eager to show us her city. I would highly recommend this tour, worth the money.

We had a very nice time. The guide really knew a lot about the history of Budapest and Hungary. The German was very good and individual requests were addressed.

The best part was the guide herself, Christine. Her English language skills, her knowledge of not just the city sights, but of the history which is as important or more important for someone truly interested in understanding the city and not just being a "tourist" And the company's making it happen at the last minute saved my vacation!! Gabby was our tour guide for the Pest side of Budapest and she was absolutely amazing. We saw everything from Hero’s square, Vajdahunyad Castle, the Opera House, Parliament, and the shoes on the Danube. We sampled local strudel and climbed to the tower of Szent István Bazilika. She was charming, engaging and extremely knowledgeable. We begged her for a second day tour. We absolutely recommend. We are a family of 6 with two 70 year old grand parents and two teenagers. A+ visit

Our tour guide, Sylvie, was an absolute delight and incredibly knowledgeable. She was able to make it interesting and fun for our entire group...three kids, two seniors, and two adults....not an easy task with such a wide age range. They were able to accommodate us on short notice and we are so glad it worked out. One of the highlights of our time in Budapest. Highly recommend!

Me and my boyfriend visited Budapest for the first time so we decided to look for a tour guide. We had the best time with Bridget! The tour was very interesting and tailored to our needs and wishes! It was a perfect mix of history and interesting facts. We saw all of the major parts of the city. Bridget also recommended taking an evening boat tour, which we did, and it was awesome! We definitely recommend Budapest locals to everybody. And everybody should definitely go to Basilica’s tower. It has an amazing view!

We loved our tour experience and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Our tour guide, Christy, was absolutely fantastic. We got a highly entertaining overview of the country’s key historical and cultural highlights and got to see the main sites in a condensed, and at the same time thorough way. The highlights for us were the visit to Heroes’ Square, where Christie provided us with an overview of 1000+ years of the country’s history, and the visit to Strudel House at the end. While the day was rainy and grey, we enjoyed every minute!

Bridgit was a superb guide. Friendly, knowledgeable and well spoken, we (two of us) spent a morning with her and it was great fun as well as informative. We got a good insight into Budapest as it is now, with plenty of historical and contextual background too. Bridgit went beyond the call of duty as well, and helped us understand how to buy metro tickets etc. at the end of the tour. Highly recommneded.

We visited Budapest in October 2018 and wrote the following review. Hopefully, we can return soon for another of their great tours. Great Budapest Overview Tour We had a Danube River cruise with a three-day extension in Budapest. Although the river cruise had a 4-hour group tour of Budapest scheduled, we wanted to see more of the city. Most group tours of bigger cities are spent on a bus in traffic trying to get to the sites only to be surrounded by hundreds of other tourists. We have never had a private tour before but after reading the reviews, we contacted Anita at Budapest Locals. Based upon her very prompt responses and suggestions, we booked the Overview Tour. Our guide, Barbi, met us at our hotel very eager to show us her city. As we had seen many sites on the Buda side on the group tour, she adjusted, and we stayed on the Pest side. She showed how to use the transit system which saved us time and walking to the sites. We were able to see many places previously missed such the Szechenyi baths, Vajdahunyad castle, seeing Budapest from the Basilica dome and the Strudel House. It was interesting listening to the history, life in Hungary and her passion, cooking. We were able to spend the next day using the public transit on our own to explore the river district and shopping at the Central Market again. Thanks to Barbi, Budapest is now one of favorite cities. Our only regret is that we did not have time for another tour. We highly recommend any of the Budapest Locals tours and Barbi as a guide. Dan S

we asked the services of Busdapest Locals to organize a tour of Budapest in French. Kinja our adorable guide was very professional and kind. We had a great time. I recommend Busapest Locals very accommodating and attentive.

We booked at last minute and Anita organized the tour on short notice. We had a fantastic tour with Kinga. During the four hours she gave us a great overview of the city and pointed out several other points of interest we could visit on our own. Kinga was knowledgeable and fun to tour with. Travelling by public transit with her was easy and efficient and allowed us to cover more ground than just walking. Learning how the transit system works was a huge advantage as we used it regularly for the rest of our visit. I highly recommend taking the tour early in your visit as it helped us shape our itinerary for the rest of our stay. The best city tour we have ever been on.

Our tour with Barbi was actually 8 hours and it was amazing! She showed us the top sights, taught us how to use the public transportation, and we tasted some fantastic food. It was our first day in Budapest and it really set the tone for the rest of the week. Barbi answered all of our questions and gave us a lot of history. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to experience Budapest like a local!

We made two visits during our stay. The first accompanied by Kinga to get an overview of the main buildings of the city and the second with Peter in the Jewish Quarter. The two visits, very interesting were appreciated by the whole family: Historical, cultural information but also anecdotes and discussions. Not to mention the gourmet break! Kinga and Peter were friendly, caring. We highly recommend!
