- We'll be waiting for you outside the Central Market Hall's main entrance, across from Burger King. We'll have our infamous white "Experiences by George" bag over our shoulder, so we should be pretty easy to spot!
Return
- The tour ends at a true Hungarian eatery - hearty goulash, our traditional pancakes, and a final toast with local wines.
Itinerary
Meet outside the main entrance of the Central Market Hall, just across from Burger King, for introductions and a quick briefing. Look for your guide carrying a white “Experiences by George” bag—easy to spot!
Taste your way through the market with artisanal cold cuts, house pickles, and homemade pálinka(Hungary's traditional alcoholic spirit). Along the way you’ll meet the vendors, hear their family stories, learn the market’s history, and stop at the local suppliers where only locals shop.
Lángos - Freshly fried and topped “the local way” garlic, sour cream, and cheese while we dive into Budapest’s street-food culture. Hungary’s most famous street food, done right.
Stroll along Váci Street, Hungary’s most famous pedestrian avenue, lined with shops, local vendors, and restaurants. As we explore this lively street, we’ll not only enjoy its vibrant atmosphere but also uncover traces of history look closely and you’ll see buildings still marked with bullet holes from the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, silent witnesses to the country’s dramatic past.
Warm, Chimney Cake rolled in sugar, cinnamon, or walnuts - learn the sweet history behind Hungary’s favorite street dessert (and snap a photo while it’s still steaming).
Authentic Local Restaurant (Closing Stop) Sample wines locals actually drink (non-alcoholic options available) with a quick intro to Hungary’s key regions and grapes. Enjoy a hearty bowl of traditional beef goulash, just the way locals like it, then finish with palacsinta - Hungarian crêpes - served in two classic flavors.

This was a great experience! Paula did a great job of walking us through a tasting experience of Central Market. (Our last guide turned us loose in the market with little explanation.). This tour is exactly as it should be. And then we went for street food. Yum! I was able to navigate on my own after the tour to eat a few traditional foods like a local with the “tourist discount”.
Paula our guide was fantastic. Well organised, knowledgeable and informative. Experienced very authentic Hungarian food and drinks at some great venues. Small group of 10 made it easy to hear everything and walk at a leisurely pace. Highly recommend
Our guide Paula was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly. We learned so much about authentic Hungarian foods and the culture. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a morning and see part of Budapest like a local.
EXCELLENT!!!!… Paula our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about everything from the history of the area to the food choices! She was also friendly , personable, energetic and mindful of everyone’s likes and dislikes and asked about allergens as well . We would highly recommend this excursion to everyone thank you so much as it was a big highlight of our trip to Budapest🤗👍🏻
Paula was great - she had some great information and made the tour a great experience
This tour allowed us to taste so many different foods that I lost count. Paula was an amazing guide. She knew so much about the food and Hungary. This tour was one of the highlights of our two week vacation along the Daube River. We very highly recommend Paula and Adventures by George. She went above and beyond to create a memorable experience for us.
Paula was an exceptional guide. She shared history and amazing food. I have been on many food tours and this was the very best!
This was a fantastic tour. Paula was both knowledgeable and engaging. The breadth of food and drinks that we tasted gave us a great overview of authentic Hungarian culinary traditions. Definitely not a diet tour, but worth every calorie! Would highly recommend this tour.
Paula was a wonderful guide! Great variety of foods, interesting venues. Large portions!
Don’t have a big breakfast as the food is amazing and plenty of it. Very informative about the market and the food.
Excellent afternoon with our host Paula absorbing the sights sounds and tastes of Budapest, would 💯 recommend this trip
This tour was just the right amount of time. In Itwo and a half hours we were able to walk through the market sampling salami’s, deserts and yummy pickles. My husband sampled the wine and I enjoyed the fried dough with cheese which was absolutely delicious. Oh I might add that fried dough pairs well with beer that we also were able to sample. Paula was great fun and was able to answer our questions when we had them. We would highly recommend the tour to anyone looking to sample the food in Budapest! Oh by the way, there’s more samples than the ones I have included here .
We enjoyed the food tasting and some history about Budapest. We sampled plenty in the food market and then walked to Vasi street for chimney cakes and Langos samples. Lunch was in a neighborhood pub for goulash and wine. All of it was very good and gave us a good understanding of the food choices.
Awesome tour with Paula...we walked out of the market having such a great foundation for our Budapest stay. The opportunity to taste the real Budapest traditional food was excellent....we experienced the true heart of Budapest. Totally recommend doing this tour!!
Excellent way to find out about hungarian foods. Good selection of choices. Tour guide spoke English.
This food tour was excellent and very enjoyable. We have done several food tours in different cities and this was up there with the best of them. George, our guide, was friendly, informative and entertaining throughout. Well organised (with his magic bag for any eventuality!), he catered well to our group with two vegetarians. It was a great mix of history, culture and - of course - good food and drink. George has selected a great variety of places - all local businesses - with everything from cold meats, pickes and langos to chimney cakes, pancakes and goulash. All authentically Hungarian and very enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Paula was an excellent guide. Knowledgeable and personable, she kept us well fed and entertained. As a local she knew where to go for the good stuff.. I’d highly recommend this tour.
Fun and informative with a wide variety of local foods. Special pork sausage, local pickles, chimney cake, the best languos and goulash With local wine. Christoper loves his city and it shows.
I really enjoyed this food and wine tour, and it will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of my visit to Budapest. Our guide, Paula, was absolutely lovely. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about Budapest. Throughout the afternoon she shared fascinating insights into Hungarian food, wine, local history and culture, along with some excellent tips for making the most of my time in the city. We sampled a wonderful variety of traditional Hungarian foods and drinks, visiting authentic local eateries away from the usual tourist spots. It was a great opportunity to discover places and try things I probably wouldn’t have found on my own. The other guests were also great company, which made the afternoon even more enjoyable. There was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere throughout. A huge thank you to Paula for making the experience so memorable. If you’re visiting Budapest and want to experience its food, wine and culture with a knowledgeable local guide, I couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough.
Paula gave us a good overview of the city’s history and the culture of the people. We tried many local dishes. Some we had heard of and some we had not. We always do food and culture tours as they give you a little history, good food and local beverages.
Really good tour, very knowledgeable on Hungarian history and really good traditional Hungarian food options
Paula was a delightful tour guide. Knowledgeable and fun. The tour covered most of the common foods and drinks from local places that you wouldn’t find yourself. It was a great experience.
We really enjoyed this tour despite arriving late for it. The started in the market and then we headed outside the market to some local family owned establishments for some authentic Hungarian dishes and treats.
We were at the market and got different salamis, grapes and Strudel. After that we went to the main shopping street and had Langos and Treecake. At the end we finished at an Hungarian pub. Our Tourguide was amazing and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend yhe experience.

Paula (our guide) was absolutely amazing! We had a small group (7 of us). We went to local establishments in and of Central Market Hall. Well worth the money.
Good your to get an understanding of the typical Hungarian foods. Visited a couple of eating spots that were non touristy and local which was good. Lovely guide Paula who was still learning the ropes, but she did a good job. Would have liked a bit more of the history of Budapest.
This was a good overview of commonly eaten Hungarian food such as goulash, chimney cake, salami and other sweets. The tour was a good length and we Chris did a great job giving the histor if the foods and the city!
Reacted to individual wishes and dietary. Questions were answered with interesting responses. Overall an excellent afternoon with delicious and interesting insights! Could be more Langos though.
Paula was fabulous. She was knowledgeable and fun, and the tastings were exceptional. I’ve been on a number of these in different cities. This tour moved to the top of my list!
Paula was phenomenal! The tour food was delicious! We met several people and loved their stories. Definitely worth going!
Good communication leading up to the tour. Many food and drink tastings on the day. We Started in Central market and went Onto Vaci Street and ended in a Hungarian restaurant. Lots of info was shared re Budapest, Hungary and the Hungarian culture. The tour was 2.5 hours. Kris was our guide and he was so knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions we had.
Chris was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food as well as Budapest. We had very good conversation and great food!
I travel quite a bit but have never been on a food tour before. I really enjoyed getting to try some traditional foods of Budapest. Our host was so friendly and personable! We got to sample several things, meet other travelers, and learn some local history too. It was the perfect length of time to fit into a day trip! Highly recommended.
Paula was an excellent guide. Her English was great and her personality was even better. We learned a lot of history and personal stories about the culture. The food was a wonderful explanation of the Hungarian culture. We were very pleased.
fabulous experience, great local food and drinks, extensive knowledge, fun and highly recommended, thank you
Had a great food tour with Chris! Very fun time.
Good food tasting walking tour. Tried pastries, salaries, langos, chimney cake and of course goulash
George has an excellent program and lots of great knowledge to make the tour interesting, informative. Great food, wine and group.
Was enjoyable and tasted local foods along with beer and wine. Foods were pickles, sausages, Lagos chimney cake and finally a Hungarian soup with bread and dessert. Paula was pleasant and entertaining with history sprinkled in about food and culture. Only thing we wish was that there were larger pieces of the tastings of sausages at the market.
Great tour and tour guide! Paula is fantastic! We tried food we would have never known about and she gave us a such a great understanding of the town.
Great opportunity to experience different types of food common to the area. Go hungry! And enjoy the experience
Took place primarily in the Central Market. Also included stops at smaller family businesses in the broader area. The group leader was very personable and added information about the history of the foods sampled and noted support for small local restaurants.
Paula did a great job! She is enthusiastic and fun! She gave us plenty of time for the tastings and explained the food choices well. Highly recommend.
Tour guide was wonderful. Great combination of food, drink and history. An easy walk from the market to street vendors outside the market. She was stocked with all the supplies we might need along the way; with wipes, napkins, toothpicks.
George was an excellent guide. Very informative and passionate about his history and heritage.- great English speaker.
Great way to learn about Budapest, its history, people, and, of course, its food. You definitely will leave full and have great memories.
