Itinerary
Visit the largest Jewish temple of Europe, learn about the Hungarian Neologue Jewish Community and the history of the Hungarian Jewry. See the spectacular architectural masterpiece of the 1850's Budapest and admire the organ played by Franz Liszt as well.
Learn about the Hungarian Holocaust and the Righteous Gentiles who saved tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews risking their own lives. Visit the Emmanuel Tree of Life Memorial. Visit the Holocaust Cemetery created on the territory of the Budapest ghetto, the resting place of more than 2000 victims.
The Rumbach Synagogue is a remarkable masterpiece of the Viennese architect Otto Wagner from 1872. The synagogue has recently reopened after many years of renovations. It is a spectacular Moorish building, a true hidden treasure of the Budapest Jewish district, a breath-taking building to visit along the streets of the former Budapest Ghetto.
The Kiraly street was the high street of Pest in the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. As a commercial and trade center it became the cradle of Jewish life in Pest. Today it is bustling with commercial and cultural life again.
This is the most colorful spot in the Jewish district, the location of entertainment and cultural life. In the past this place housed kosher salami stores, food stores as well as apartments. Today you can meet here local Jewish artists, local artisan and antique products or eat and drink with friends.
Meet one of the brave Righteous Gentiles who risked his own life to save thousands of Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust.
See the restaurant, gallery, cultural stage and theatre named after the Jewish Dutch philosopher of Portuguese Sephardi origin, who was an early representative of the Enlightenment in the 17th century.
See one of the best known places in Budapest for kosher flodni, the most delicious Hungarian Jewish cake.
The street running parallel to Kiraly was the central street of the Jewish district of Pest. It also ran in the center of the Budapest ghetto. Today again this is the scene of the revival of Jewish life in Budapest and Hungarian Jewish orthodoxy.
The Kazinczy street is called today the cultural street of Budapest. It is full of ruin pubs but also the Hungarian Orthodox Jewish Center is here, with a synagogue, a mikveh, Kosher restaurants and cafes, schools, butchery, Kosher food stores and a lot more. Admire the architectural beauty of the early 20th century Art Noveau - called Secession in Budapest - architecture. The Orthodox synagogue serves the Hungarian traditional Orthodox Jewish Community.

Interesting tour and knowledgeable tour guide.
Our guide, Milan, was very knowledgeable and shared much of the history of Jewish life in Hungary and information about the Dohany synagogue. It was an excellent tour!
Our guide provided at excellent tour of Budapest's Jewish quarter and synagogues. The history is amazing, but often sad considering the Jewish community's suffering during WWII.
Excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and clear on the subject matter. I would highly recommend the tour.
It offers insight into the history of the Jewish community in Hungary and specifically Budapest. The visits to the Dohany and Rumbach Synagogues are very informative. We were lucky to have Miki as our guide. He was knowledgeable and answered questions in a thoughtful manner. The walk around the Jewish was excellent.
Milan (our guide’s name!) was so personable and full of information. Both from a personal experience and from history of the country, we learned a lot, plus got access to a synagogue not open to the public. Very cool, very enjoyable. My husband and I really liked this tour!
The guide was knowledgeable and really connected to his audience
Excellent tour, wonderful guide, very informative and engaging. Visited 3 synagogues plus the Jewish quarter, understood the impacts of the Shoah and ghetto/deportation.
Great Tour, Milan was very knowledgeable-we visited multiple synagogues her stories about the history of World War II and what made each synagogue unique
The tour was wonderful, full of interesting information. Milan was a wonderful guide. Used personal antidotes to make it interesting.
Guide was excellent. Group much larger than expected. Pace somewhat faster than ideal.
Guide was difficult to hear in Great Synagogue so recommend seating close to guide - large space and many groups. Absolutely stunning synagogue. Worth the trip by itself. But if that’s all you want you can get free guided tour with tickets purchased from venue.
Excellent tour. Milan was our guide. He was extremely knowledgeable, was able to answer all questions. A truly meaningful tour of the Jewish quarter of Budapest with so much history.
One of my favorite tours in Budapest. Miki was the best tour guide I’ve ever had traveling. His depth of knowledge made me wish we had another hour. Don’t hesitate to book this one.
Was a great tour. Milan, our guide, was very knowledgeable and helpful. Learned a lot about the Jews of Hungary.
It provided a wonderful overview of the history of the Jewish people in Budapest/Hungary while encompassing a walk through the Great Synagogue and 2 others. Our guide was knowledgeable and answered all questions asked of him. An excellent introduction to the Jewish population in Budapest.
Very informative- engaging and Milan was a great guide . He brought the history and the modern culture to life .
Milan is a great guide. He is very knowledgeable and he explains everything very clearly. I recommend the full tour.
This was such a meaningful experience and led by a most wonderful guide, Milan. He was so informative, knowledgeable, kind and attentive to the group, which was quite large. It was easily one of the highlights of our stay in Budapest and we couldn't have asked for a better guide. Highly recommended!
Great tour! Tour guide was friendly, knowledgable and professional. Synagogues are beautiful to see inside. 100% would recommend!
So nice to have a knowledgeable guide to take us through the 2 synagogues and give us background. We saw the Orthodox synagogue from the outside and while we didn't take us to the shoes on the Danube he gave us background that was useful when we visited later. Milan was patient and willing to answer any and all questions. Definitely worth the price.
guide very knowledgeable. english very good. sights were very worthwhile to see. tour was appropriate length
Wonderful young woman as our guide who related the history of the synagogues and the memorials. It was very moving and interesting. A worthwhile tour.
Milán led an extremely informative and entertaining tour of Budapest's two most important synagogues. Over two and a half hours, he painted a comprehensive picture of the history, cultural relevance, and modern perspectives on these magnificent buildings. He also spent a significant amount of time educating our group more broadly on the complicated history of Jews in Hungary. Despite covering some heavy and politically charged topics, Milán was cheerful, positive, unbiased, and above all extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend his tour to anyone seeking to gain a deeper understanding of this important part of Budapest's diverse and colorful history.
Milan was an informative & very cordial guide. He was very thorough describing the history and info for every place he took us on the tour. Very good tour. Highly recommend it!
Great informative tour telling the story of the Hungarian Jews. Our guide, Milan was super seeet and very knowledgeable.
Our guide - I believe her name was Dorina - was excellent. Her knowledge and communication skills were impressive. We highly recommend this tour which will provide you with a good understanding of Jewish life - past and present including the tragedy of the holocaust.
Learned a lot about Jewish history of Budapest, especially during WW2. Milan, our guide was great! His knowledge of the Jewish experience was excellent.
This was a great tour. Our Guide Dorine was very knowledgeable and told us very interesting things about the Jewish community and what Budapest experienced during the holocaust. I would highly recommend this tour.
Loved this tour! It was so informative, and our guide presented the information/history in a very personal yet non-biased way. I would highly recommend this tour!
Flavia was an exceptional guide extremely knowledgeable patient and making sure every question was answered Especially for me was to stop at the house where my father lived from 1942 to 1944 I only have the highest respect for Flavia and anyone will be lucky to get her as a guide
Our tour guide was excellent in her knowledge and personality. Open to questions. The museum was particularly poignant.
Flavia was simply superb. Her deep knowledge of the history and her passion for sharing same made this one of the most enjoyable tours we've ever done. I would give her 6 stars if I could
What a great historical and comprehensive tour. Our tour guide, Milan, was amazing. He was so personable, fun, and funny, too. We had a great time.
We got a good short history of Jews in Hungary, the Neologues’ changes, and a description of how the Dohany synagogue was designed like a church more than a synagogue and why. Despite the very sad times for Jews in Hungary and Budapest, Milan (himself Jewish) had a good sense of humor. The description of the ghetto and what the Nazis did was horrifying.
Great history and tour of the Jewish Quarter, including admission to multiple synagogues and museums! Milan, our guide, was very informative and friendly. Highly recommend the tour vs self guided options.
Fantastic and informative tour! Do the longer option with both Synagogues. Ask for Milan as your tour guide. He was excellent!
Excellent tour of the synagogues and lots of history was explained. Flavia was delightful and a very well informed guide.
Milan was our guide. He is extremely knowledgeable and made it a priority to engage us and answer our many questions. If you are in Budapest, this is a must with Milan. A commentary from one of my kids: He was very funny and always tried to keep us in shade ( temp was close to 100f). He also found a way to make the tour not just history but a way to make memories.
Our tour guide was excellent. I think her name is Fatima. She was wonderful. Very interesting and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour!
Excellent well prepared guide. Gave good historical perspective.
Wonderful tour of the Great Synagogue. Flavia was upbeat and exceptionally knowledgeable. There was a bomb scare in front of our last stop so she called an audible and took us to another spot. We'll worth it.
David was very good. He had great information and kept the pace moving. The synagogues were gorgeous and the walking was easy for all attendees. The only comment was he never reached out to us prior to the tour to know where to meet or how to identify him. We just happened to ask around until we found him.
David was a fantastic tour guide. Full of knowledge and speaks clearly, maybe a little fast but had a lot of information to give. The Jewish experience was wonderful and synagogues beautiful.
This is a "not to miss tour." David was so knowledgeable and personable and shared his own experiences which made for a very moving experience. He shared the history behind everything we saw and explained thoroughly.
We had a wonderful tour with our guide, David, learning the history of the beautiful Dohany Street Synagogue and other Synagogues in the Jewish Quarter pre and post WW2 and the Ghetto era. It was most interesting to hear his grandparents war time experiences followed by the Soviet period.
There’s a great deal of information paced into a short period of time. I would read up a bit on the area to be prepared with questions
