We had a wonderful tour with Timea and highly recommend this tour if you are interested in Hungarian Jewish history or just Hungarian history of which the Jewish history is a big part of. Timea was delightful and very thoughtful, and our day with her was the highlight of our stay in Budapest. It was very meaningful. We learned so much and then Timea sent us a follow up email with more information on restaurants, shops, food, movies, more places to go and background information on things we saw. You won't regret spending some hours with her.

Itinerary
Whichever direction we choose to start our walk in the quarter, we are going to see a lot from the second largest non-Orthodox synagogue in the world to the smallest prayer houses, attractive residential buildings and memorial places of the area: astonishing, all with their own stories. Some of the gems of our itinerary you might already be familiar with but by taking part in the tour you will have the chance to build a new perspective towards them: the synagogues of the so-called synagogue triangle of Budapest such as the Kazinczy, the Rumbach and the Dohány Street Synagogue, the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Garden with the touching Emmanuel tree, the Budapest Jewish Museum and the exhibitions of the Jewish Archives, The Vasvári Street Synagogue, the Carl Lutz Memorial, the stumbling stones of the quarter’s streets, the last remaining part of the WWII ghetto wall or the iconic Shoes Monument on the riverbank of the Danube.
I will also bring you to places mostly visited and used by the locals. You can peep into their everyday lives: courtyards just like the Gozsdu Courtyard, little shops, eateries, confectioneries, the mikveh in Kazinczy Street, art galleries, festival scenes, old and newly opened cafés, the unique ruin bars including the iconic Szimpla will all make you get closer to an insider's look. Just let yourself emerge in the atmosphere! Our itinerary can be highly flexible. If you have deeper interest in something and want to spent more time in a place or you would skip another, no problem. The aim is to give you a good overall picture with lots of stories rather than facts: Always trying to organise the tour as informative, integrating and fun as it is possible.

Timi was a great guide - extremely knowledgeable and with real generational Budapest experience. Highly recommended!!
My husband and I spent half the day with Timea, who showed us all around the Jewish quarter of Budapest. She grew up in this neighborhood and knows the people and the places exceptionally well. She is delightful and gave us great insight to history of this community and what happened in the first, second world wars and the periods after where the Russians were occupying and the revolution that ended that period. We went to the really beautiful synagogues, parks, a small Judaica shop, and learned about the stepping stones and barriers of the Jewish ghettos We took the tram together to the shoes installation by the Danube where over 60,000 Jewish people were shot right into the river to die. Along the day we share some delicious pastries and had candid discussions about Jewish life today in Budapest. We both loved our time with Timea and highly recommend her as a guide. It was also wonderful to see an enlivened Jewish community in Budapest- as all the other cities we visited had so few Jews left after the Shoah. She took her time with us, shared tips about other sites to see, local performances, and a few of her favorite restaurants, and explained the metro system to us. She also shared some incredible archives to review when we return to our home. We loved our tour and time with Timea.
Our tour guide, Timea was amazing! When we booked she emailed us links to sights, movies to watch, great information so we had a preview of what we would see on our tour. She was very flexible regarding start time for our tour and very understanding over our very long delay at the airport. Her knowledge of the Jewish Quarter was extensive. She was a pleasure to listen to, they way she connected her family, history and the present was so interesting. She showed us as much of the Jewish Quarter as was possible given our time contraints. We were mesmerized the entire tour, she truely immersed us in her culture. After our tour she provided us with more information, recapping what we had seen, even restaruants to visit. It was a joy to tour with someone who truly loves her home and wants very much to share it with others. I can't say enough good things about Timea. My only regret is we didn't have more time with Timea. Anyone who has an interest in the Budapest Jewish Quarter should take a tour with Timea!!!
This was my favorite tour while traveling all through Central Europe. Timea is passionate and so knowledgeable, took me to see the places I wanted to visit and many more. She gave me so much more insight into the city, its culture, history and people. I followed her recommendations for food, shopping. She gave me the most memorable experience and I was sad when I had to leave.
We took two full day tours with Timea. THIS one was titled the Budapest City Walk in the Jewish Quarter. Through our day Timea also covered in depth - Hungarian history, including before the WWs, during, and after - which also included the Communist era. Her personal knowledge is unsurpassed. She is a caring guide, taking into consideration our preferences, needs and interests. We learned a tremendous amount, feeling immersed in the reality that is and was Jewish Budapest. We cannot imagine a more thoughtful and responsive and knowledgable guide.
My husband and I had an absolutely fabulous private 4 hour tour with Timea during our first time trip to Budapest. We rarely splurge for private tours, but Timea was worth every penny! As a Budapest native who grew up in the Jewish quarter, she was able to give us a personal perspective on the changes she has lived through as Budapest went through the Communist era, other political changes, etc. She knows her Jewish, economic, and cultural history inside out. Walking around with her on a tour that was customized to our specific interests was the highlight of our 4 night stay. After the tour, Timea sent us an email with links to a number of topics we wanted to understand more about. You do not need to be Jewish to take this tour - Timea’s wealth of knowledge and perspectives gave us a much better understanding of all the wrenching changes that this region has gone through. Thank you Timea!
I had a highly personalized tour with Times. From beginning to end she was so knowledgeable and offered options. So in depth and a highlight of my time in Budapest.
My husband and I went on a 2 1/2 hour tour to the Jewish quarter in Budapest with Edi, but she did this tour 1 1/2 hour instead. The tour looked like the student was trying to pass the test and do the fast us she can, it was no emotion at all. You should be lucky if you meet a decent good tour guide.
Timi managed to teach us more in half a day tour than we could’ve learnt from a book. She is knowledgable, heartfelt, and without pressure or time stress, we talked and walked through some of the most important milestones of Budapest’s Jewish history. I recommend her tour!
Timea was fantastic she also gave us advice for things to see before and after our tour. She was quick with her messages and very hospitable. She was so knowledgeable and gave great tour including some family locations in Budapest. Couldn’t reccomend her enough
Timea was absolutely amazing. She is a very knowledgeable guide with personal experiences that helped us better understand the Jewish history in Eastern Europe. She personalized the tour to what we were most interested in seeing and moved at our pace to accommodate an elderly family member. The members of our family continue to discuss what we learned and reflect on important lessons of history. She is very kind and truly an inspiration for others. This tour was the highlight of our visit to Budapest.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day learning about the history of Jewish life in Budapest past and present. Timea’s warm personality, knowledge, and personal experience made this a particularly special day. We highly recommend spending time touring with her.
Times was wonderful. We communicated prior to the meeting and she was extremely responsive. She was timely knowledgeable and very engaging.
Timea is knowledgeable (both historically and practically) and personable. The tour includes all the essential sites and is easily customized. Timea also followed up the tour by providing links to additional resources and potential places to visit while in Budapest. Highly recommend.
Timea is a spectacular tour guide. She is knowledgeable, interesting, and it is a pleasure to spend time with her. Her background is steeped in history — both Jewish and Hungarian. She also has wonderful insight into the current state of affairs in Hungary. Both the tour and Timea’s suggestions for further information provided us with a good overview of Jewish life, both past and present, in Budapest.
We had an outstanding tour experience with Timea. She is knowledgeable, articulate, warm and very personable. She took us to the main sites and areas but also to see and experience ‘hidden gems’ that neither a guide book nor ChatGPT would even be aware of. We would and will highly recommend her to any one looking for a Jewish tour of Budapest.
Timea gave my parents a tour two years ago and raved about how incredible she was and they have been all over the world. Our family of five thought that Timea's Jewish Tour was the highlight of our time in Budapest. She explains the symbolism of so many Jewish Memorabilia and has access with incredible insight to the three synagogues, the Shoah Memorial and much of the architecture in the Jewish Quarter. She has first hand knowledge of the plight of the Jewish people during the Nazi Regime from her grandparents elaborate stories that she memorialized. She is a brilliant linguists and English teacher and is passionate about Budapest's history including the fall of the iron curtain and gave us insight into the small yet vibrant remaining Jewish citizens and schools/ Shuls and the commonality of the "Never Again" mentality. It was particularly interesting to have this tour after the new election where there is much more hope for Hungary in general. Timea is a gem! She gets more than a 5 star rating in our book.
What an amazing experience. Timea is so knowledgeable about the history of Budapest and the Jewish Quarter. She shared with us historical and personal information that made the experience so much more meaningful. Not only did she give us the tour of the Jewish Quarter, she took the time to recommend places to eat, other places to visit within the city and other material available about the city. It was truly a pleasure to meet her.
Timea is a sweet knowledgeable guide who takes the time to show you all there is to see in the Jewish quarter and beyond. She answers all your questions. Deep knowledgeable of all Jewish life, buildings and Hungarian Jewish history. I recommend her for a fine tour!
Timea was too wonderful . So knowledgeable , great English , so adaptable and an adorable person . Cant recommend highly enough .
We spent 2 days touring Buda and Pest with Timea! She is an amazing tour guide who is very knowledgeable ,answered all our questions and helped us understanding the history of Hungary, who were the Hungarian Nazis and their role in the death of Jews as well as the German Nazis. She was born and raised in Budapest and shared her family history of survival both past and present. Not only did she know the Jewish sites and history, she also knew about all the building we passed both in Buda and Pest. This tour is a definite must!!
If you are interested in learning about Jewish life in Budapest, both past and present, this tour is absolutely worth it. Timea, who was born and raised in the city and works in Jewish education, was an excellent guide and made the experience feel really personal over the four hours we spent together. She pointed out small architectural details we had walked past multiple times without noticing and used them to tell a much bigger story about Jewish life in Budapest. We did not realize how much history we were walking by just within the few blocks of our hotel. She really knew so much about every corner of the area. What stood out most was how she connected history to the present. She shared what Jewish life looks like in the city today, including sharing details about the synagogues only someone who attended could share, and you could really feel her pride in the community. This definitely made the whole experience feel more meaningful. Even with the length of the tour, it never felt overwhelming. The pacing was great and everything was easy to follow. We saw all the major sites, plus a few we would not have found on our own. Thank you, Timea! It was a really special experience. We hope to return! 10/10 recommend.
Everything from Timea's knowledge of history to your personal family stories made for a wonderful and memorable experience. Don't miss this opportunity to see and experience more than just a walk in the Jewish Quarter.
Timea was extremely knowledgeable, engaging, patient and thoughtful in guiding us through the Jewish Quarter, Pest and Buda including the castle and surroundings and an excursion to the suburbs. She is expert in Hi Fatima history and culture and Jewish history here. She also shared best places to eat, shop, stroll, and explore! Highly recommend!
This was an incredible tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the entire area. She took us for about 3 hours all around the Jewish border as well as the parliament in the history of the city. We also stopped at some amazing pastry shops as well as other great eating areas. He was very knowledgeable and gave us good insight to the city as well as his history and culture. Highly recommend using this tour guide
Timea shared her city with me, my husband and dear friends over a two day period. We came away with an amazing understanding of its history and where it stands today. She shared what makes Buda and Pest such unique and special places - their people, architecture, food, history, hopes and struggles. It truly was an incredible experience through a natives eyes. Such a magical place!
Timea was an absolutely wonderful and engaging guide! She is so knowledgeable and warm and we had an amazing time!
Timea was absolutely fantastic! We took 2 tours with her - a full day Budapest tour and the Jewish Quarter tour. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and love of her heritage and city cannot be matched. Not only that but she is a delightful person to spend time with. My wife and I fell in love with Budapest and Timea is one of the main reasons. Thank you Timea for making our days in Budapest so interesting.
Timea brought the history and vibrancy of Budapest's Jewish Quarter to life for our family! She is warm and knowledgeable and created some core memories for us of this remarkable place. Timea brought us to places we wouldn't have found (or couldn't get into) on our own and the time with her was well worth her fee.
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Timea gave us a great tour that was interesting, educational and fun. We would highly recommend her.
We spent two full mornings with Timea. One was the Jewish Walking Tour and the second was a Budapest walking tour. Both were excellent. Timea is a wealth of knowledge about the city, its history and the Jewish experience. She was a fabulous guide and a lovely person. We couldn’t recommend her more highly.
Timea was our tour guide . She was a great guide and an excellent communicator. Once I made initial contact early in 2015,we stayed in contact until our tour. She was waiting for us as we left the ship. She was very educated on the Jewish history not only in Budapest, but knowledge of the world in general. I would highly recommended timea as a tour guide. She listened to what we had to say and discussed what our opinions were. She is a great conversationalist . She is one of the best tour guides we have had on our worldly travels. If you want to get a good understanding of Jewish life in Budapest make timea your tour guide
My husband and I took the private Jewish quarters tour with Timea. She is a wealth of information, even sending us links to books, movies, and extensive information for further research when we finished our tour. In addition to learning about the history of the Jews in Budapest, we gained an added dimension from hearing about the personal experiences of Timea's family. If you are interested in Jewish history, I highly recommend this tour.
My wife and I took Timea’s Jewish Experience Tour while in Budapest in October 2025. Her experience and knowledge was truly incredible. She combined knowledge of Hungarian history, art, science, and of course Jewish Hungarian history. Her expert knowledge of every aspect of the two major synagogues that we spent time in was incomparable. As she is native to Hungry, the Holocaust directly affected her family and this comes through during the tour. There was not a single question we asked that she could not answer. Additionally, she made the tour interesting and fun, as we could see what a nice person she is. Highly recommended!
Great walking tour with Kristina as the guide. Visited the 3 synagogues with very interesting commentary throughout. Kristina was excellent, mixing the emotional element of the tour with a great sense of humour. Finished up in the ruins bar, Szimpla. Around 2hours in all and highly recommended
Our tour was outstanding. We took the tour based on the recommendation of family members who had enjoyed the experience. Like them, we’re so pleased. We walked all over the city taking in its rich Jewish heritage and famous sites. From viewing the Opera House to the Dohány Street Synagogue, the Jewish Ghetto to the exterior of Parliament, we were treated to an informative and moving tour. Help and instruction on navigating the subways and rail cars along the way assisted us when moving about on our own. We highly recommend taking this tour.
Our tour with Timea was fantastic. She was incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the history and culture of the area. She brought the stories of the district to life with insight, warmth, and enthusiasm, making every stop meaningful and memorable. It was a day truly well spent and one of the highlights of our time in Budapest. Highly recommended!
Timea was outstanding. She enthusiastically highlighted numerous points of interest, and by sharing her own family’s historical experiences, she provided us with a powerful and insightful glimpse into what the Jewish community endured over the past centuries.
The time we spent with Timea was amazing! We did three tours with her, starting with an all day classic tour of city highlights, both Buda and Pest. Then we did a half day in the Jewish Quarter (so moving) and finally a tour of the lovely Danube Bend villages. We learned so much and had the most memorable times. Timea is so knowledgeable and shares many stories. She is kind, patient and so helpful. We booked her several months in advance, and she was incredibly responsive to multiple questions as we mapped out our tour plans. By the time we met in person, I felt I already knew her. And when we parted, we were sad to leave a friend. We highly recommend engaging Timea to see the best of Budapest. We can't thank her enough for our wonderful experience!
I can’t recommend Timea highly enough! From the moment our tour began, it was clear we were in the hands of someone who not only knows Jewish Budapest inside and out, but also deeply loves sharing its history, the good and the bad. Her personal knowledge and emotional connection made this tour absolutely wonderful.
Honestly this was one of the best tours I have ever taken and I have traveled for years and have taken many tours. Timea was an outstanding guide. She was extremely knowledgeable in both Jewish and Hungarian history. Our tour felt more like a conversation with a good friend than spending 4 hours with a tour guide. I learned so much about Hungary, Budapest and the Jewish community of the region. Do not miss this tour if you are in the area.

It was wonderful to have Timea spend the morning with us on this tour. It is clear that Timea is a trained teacher and historian as she tailored the tour and information to suit a 16 year old and an adult. Whether one has a family connection to Hungary or the Holocaust or one is just interested in this period and the horrific events, Timea thoughtfully and engagingly provides context, interesting stories and points out many details that one would otherwise miss. She is also excellent at assessing how you are responding to the information and the sites and providing time and space if needed or moving onto the next place. She was also very considerate with looking for shade etc. Timer’s knowledge is excellent. We will be recommending her to any friends of family visiting Budapest. On booking she thoughtfully provided an email of other suggestions of things to do and places to go in Budapest. After the tour she did the same with a list of places tailored to what we had expressed interest in on the tour as well as a list and links to further information - above and beyond service!
Timea knows so much and took such good care of me. She showed me so much more than I could ever see. I learned a lot from Timea about Budapest and its history. I can highly recommend her
Great tour, great tour guide. Learned so much. Felt like we were touring with a long lost family member we had not seen for a while.
Timea Tarjani led our university group through a multi-faceted walk through Jewish culture and history in Budapest, culminating in guided tours of Rumbach Synagogue and Dohany St. Synagogue. This is a rich and rewarding experience for our students. Though much of the history is tragic, Timea emphasizes the resilience of the Jewish community in Budapest and elsewhere. Timea is a wonderful teacher and a great communicator. She responds to questions with detailed knowledge and insight. The Jewish Walk is a highlight of our experience in Budapest. Highly recommended!
We hired Timea for a half day tour of the Jewish Quarter. It was incredible to hear her own family's stories of their life and the life of Jews in Budapest. It added such great color to our few days in Hungary. Highly informative and personal tour. Definitely recommend her.
Timea is an exceptional guide. She is knowledgable, professional, personable and speaks perfect English. We greatly enjoyed our 2 days with her. We feel fortunate to have engaged her as our guide. Highly recommend!
Amazing! I would highly recommend this tour. Tímea Was extremely knowledgable and shared lots of stories about the history of the Jewish quarter and also about Budapest and Hungary. She was able to answer all of our questions and made recommendations to places we were planning on visiting. She sent a follow up email with lots of information that supported us on the rest of our trip and will allow us to dig deeper into some of the questions we had about Hungary through the ages.
