Bloodthirsty Hungary - Castle District

This tour was educational, fun, and a great way to see some of the popular tourist attractions at night, beautifully lit up. Oscar was an incredibly knowledgeable and fun tour guide!

Honesty can’t rate this tour enough! It’s not something I’d typically go for but so glad I did! Our guide Joe made it for us! He was absolutely fantastic! Definitely recommend!

Our guide on the 23rd October was Oskar. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience which took us through Old Town and the Castle. Oskar was very informative, his knowledge and delivery of information was excellent and highly entertaining. We learned so much about the history of Hungary and because of him we made a point of visiting the Labrynth and St Stephen's Cathedral to view the relic of St. Stephen. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest. The temperature drops after dark so wrap up warm and enjoy!!!

My husband and I had the honor to be on this tour with the amazing Oscar, who skillfully shared Hungary’s spooky side of history on a wonderful late October night ( the perfect mood for an early Halloween 👻 ) Oscar was very expressive and his storytelling immerses you in the story. And ontop of being funny and great at improv, he sprinkled some fun facts about every nook and cranies we passed through during our walk, which was mind boggling. The lit Buda castle was amazingly beautiful and crisp on that night and we even had it all to ourselves which added more to the spooky atmosphere x)) All in all, I would love to do this tour again the next time we come to Hungary, we loved it so much

The whole thing from start to finish was great,made more so by our guide Oscar.The tour lasted just over an hour and was full value for money.Although the whole stories were fastinating and based on true historical facts we saw areas of true buildings of beauty.Iwould certainly recomend this experience to anyone thinking of visiting Budapest.

We learned so much about the dark history of Hungary, the myths surrounding Dracula, and even the fascinating lore behind the ravens. Our guide, Oscar, was incredible! Joe was very entertaining and shared a lot of historical stories and information. I’m impressed with his ability to remember the dialogue for so many stories and adding fun side comments at every turn. Truly a good man who took care to make sure we were all safe and entertained. I will be sure to research the history, as I found the stories fascinating.

Travel alot and always try to do a ghost / horror tour. Joe did not disappoint. I'd say top 3 of all time in tours I've done. Joe was soooo engaging that even others not on our tours would stop to see what what was so interesting. It was also pretty apt that when we started the dark history of Dracula, the thunder and lightning came (so to did the rain) that gave the story and even better backdrop. Ever the great guide, Joe offered his umbrella and found us a sheltered alley way to continue the tour for those who wanted to stay. He was so good that no one wanted to leave even though it was given as an option. I would do this tour again even though I know the stories because as well as being a great storyteller Joe was just so personable and kept checking that everyone was okay through various points of tour. If you do this tour, check Joe is your host, you will be satisfied!

Oscar was absolutely fantastic. We have had many tour guides before, but every one of them paled compared to him. He is knowledgeable, charismatic, involving and theatrical.

Oscar, the guide, led us through the bloody and horrific tales of the bloodthirsty Hungary. It was an amazing walk by the churches and historical buildings. Oscar did an amazing job and kept us all invested in the stories. Really great storyteller (and he also looked very good in his outfit and that gorgeous mustache). We had difficulty finding the group so missed the very start as we had not received the final instruction about meeting by the statue. However Oscar was a very charismatic story teller who made the history come to life. Teresa and I really enjoyed the tour so bonus marks to Oscar. We also appreciated his advice on our next appointment and found a quieter bar where we had a great chat with folks visiting from Vienna. Thank you Oscar.

Possibly the best walking tour I’ve ever taken. Oscar brought history to life with his dynamic storytelling. Oscar was warm, funny, and passionate about Magyar history and his recounting of the stupendous stubbornness of my people helped me feel closer to my ancestors.

This is an absolute must at a very good price. Oscar, our tour guide was amazing. He brought the History and Stories of Hungary and Dracula to life. No spoilers, just do this, it's so entertaining. If all my history classes were like this, I'd be a Historian now.

Very immersive and amazing story telling by Joe with fun facts in between the stories. It's a decent amount of walking, but there's opportunities to sit down during a story. Joe was very attentive and made sure everyone was okay throughout the walk. Beautiful architecture and scenic.

Even if i come in Budapest often i found out about new places and local history with this tour. The part about Dracula is totally 100% historically accurate so if ur into learning real facts not made up plump stuff i reccomend

Our walking tour guide was Oskar and he was wonderful that he far exceeded the time of the tour by an hour. Scary and really dark history about the so called Dracula and the famous Janous Corvinus, the greatest warrior of Hungary, Father of King Matthias the Just and so much more if you decide to join his evening walking tour. We all enjoyed it. Less than 12 of us in the group but we managed to lose 2 but Oskar stayed until the two missing friends joined us. It was a beautiful evening and Oskar made it more real with his dramatic representation of what it was like in those dark old days of fighting and survival.

What a memorable first night in Budapest. Pleased that we read the reviews and did this on our first night. Oscar was an engaging storyteller who brought alive the history of this country. The time went so quickly, and we saw some beautiful sights. Really appreciated the cards he handed out with helpful apps and information about the people we heard about. At the end of the tour Oscar also made sure that everyone knew how to get back to their accommodation. Would highly recommend!

This was an awesome tour! Our guide, Oscar was a fantastic story teller and really engaged us with the fascinating history of vampires in Budapest! We even ran into a rare storm and he did an amazing job of finding us shelter and soldiering on through it. It honestly added to the ambience and it was 100% worth it!

Our tour guide was Oscar who did a fabulous job explaining the key events and key people who played a major role in the defense of Europe from foreign forces, all while showing us the the important locations of Budapest that served as the front line in fending off invading ottoman armies. He also explained the roles of Kings and famous warriors who helped create what we know of as modern Budapest. We loved it and highly recommend this tour to anyone who visiting this amazing city. We picked this tour for something a bit different from the usual walking tours and Joe did not disappoint! What a great story teller! He really did bring the blood thirsty history to life and all in a very dramatic setting! It was a good pace and with some great fun facts on the way! I absolutely loved this tour. I traveled solo to Budapest for the first time and started my trip off with late night history. My tour guide Oscar was super animated and did a great job with balancing the information with facts, comedy, and acting out parts of the history to make it easy to visualize. I highly recommend this as a starter when visiting Budapest!

We decided to book this guided tour after our son's recommendations. He travelled to the Budapest last year and said this was the highlight of his experience here. Joe our tour guide was great, such a good story teller... atmosphere was spot on: listening to Dracula's story in the quiet, dark courtyard.
