We had to wait over 45 minutes at each stop. When you have limited time to tour the city, this is unacceptable.

When I went to redeem at a center the man was very rude! He said why did I buy on line and why should I help you! I guess he lost his commission. It was hard trying to find the stops and with people on the street selling these not willing to help it was difficult. Some of the places I thought I had signed up to see were not on the route or not very close. Very little space inside and the upper section very cold as it was open. I should have chosen the other line as the top was closed. Not very happy!
Great way to explore the City informative tour commentary and history lesson included a Danube cruise as well.
This was a good HOHO experience: the buses were generally frequent, the route is good and the Danube cruise was perfect at sunset. The app works really well for seeing when a bus is coming and has a lot of information about things to see and do on the route. Two bits of feedback: 1. The onboard commentary could use a technology upgrade because it frequently cuts out, replays the same narration and has glitches; 2. The New York Cafe is not worth the time and should be removed as a stop. Those who want to go there can walk from the Time Out Market stop in under 5 minutes, but turning off the route to go to the New York Cafe took an extra 15 minutes.
I usually take bus tours in new cities that I visit. I am sorry to say that this tour fell far short of what I have experienced on other bus tours in major cities around the world, including in Italy and Spain. The explanations given via the headset were extremely poor, and not at all detailed. I was not told about the boat tour or the walking tour when I booked the ticket at the hotel. I stayed on the bus for most of the stops, and at no time was the boat tour or the walking tour mentioned. There needs to be more flexibility to allow people to go a little over the 24 hours. Tourists find it difficult to meet that strict 24 hour time slot. I would really like to receive a full refund to use as credit towards another tour in another city of the world. I don't think this tour is worth the money or time. It is helpful to get around the city, so perhaps it is worth the money if a large group is traveling together, and can hop on and off. I found it annoying that the conductors were particularly careful to ensure people had not gone over the 24 hours by scanning the tickets. Was this really necessary? I don't think so especially given the poor quality explanations, and no real supplementary commentary from the driver, as can happen on some of these types of tours.
The commentary was awful. We passed by beautiful buildings that were never mentioned. I almost fell asleep.
The bus was very good, clean . It was very hard to hear the driver when they are announcing the stops. The audio tour was good. We did the boat tour and it was very disappointing short, no audio , no narrative. Nothing .You just rode the boat up and down the river and got off. Not worth our time. We also booked the Blue bus to take us up the hill to the different sights around the Buda castle. It was good. No history, no nothing, but it got you up the hill and you got to spend all the of time in each drop off spot that you wanted. Would do that again. Make sure you plan plenty of time lots to see and do ! My favorite stop was at the top of the mountain with all the views. So beautiful up there and enjoyed the cafe and getting ice cream before heading back down. Would do the bus hop on and off again.
Great way to orientate yourself with Budapest. If this offered in the city we are traveling to - this is always our first outing.
The upper covered level of the double decker bus was too short, so that people could not stand upright to embark and disembark. I have ended up with a bleeding head while disembarking and I don't understand who has given a permit to this bus to serve the people. Very bad experience
Friendly staff, good long bus ride. Walking tour was great. Boat ride also good length and great views.
Pick up and drop off are not clear. One of two drivers we interacted with was rude. We had to ask for the headphones after seeing other tourists listening to the tour. 24 ticket is misleading because the busses run between 10-5 They say it runs until 7 but we got kicked off the bus at 5:30 pm. 108$ Canadian we took the bus twice….not worth the money at all!! The transit system was cheaper and easy to navigate.
The buses at several stops are so full that once, at stop number 7 , we could not get on two subsequent buses due to no room even to stand up. We forced our way into the third bus and squeezed in the door. With people standing you can’t see outside which defeated the purpose of using this service. The bus drivers are so rude, not only they are not helpful, they resent talking to you. The marked stop numbers at each stop are so small you hardly know where you are; and if the driver would announce the stop, the bus is so full, you cannot hear him. If you are lucky enough to get a bus that is not that crowded, the city is beautiful.
Generally been a decent service, but today 27/9/26. The driver we had was rude, unapproachable & missed our stop. He shouted at me when I tried to address the situation. I would be reluctant to use this service when returning back to Budapest. I have felt the need to make a complaint to the big red bus complaints department for this drivers attitude.
It was great, opportunity to see all the key sites and get around the beautiful city. We took the full tour which was smooth
Day one of our 2 day premium ticket was great. We enjoyed everything about it. However, we lost our paper tickets. Although I had the receipt, they refused to even discuss it. This is Wrong. Since I had the voucher, why couldn’t they check ID to see I was who bought it? And the dude was rude too.
The map locations for stops are not accurate and makes stops very hard to find. Wide variance in quality of busses. We froze all day in a bus with open air top level only to find our bus the next day when warmer had windows that slid open and closed. Did not go close enough to key stops to rather get there quickly or to take photos from bus of landmarks. Recoding did not match what we were looking at. Overall a pretty big disappointment from other hop on hop off cities.
We can only blame any fun that we could have had on the wind and cold. We froze on the top level. Other than that, it would have been great.
Very old and dirty busses. The drivers drive like MANIACS and came very close to hitting pedestrians on multiple occasions. Multiple, elderly women fell while trying to climb the stairs
Confusing as we did not know it worked with the Citysightseeing bus tour as well. Overall very good experience.
We did not enjoy this experience- buses were always so full. No air conditioning. Very hard to see the views from either level. Stops and pick ups didn’t seem consistent, so we seemed to have to do a lot of waiting around.
The Bus Drivers were very helpful, especially when we lost our new stamped ticket and all we had was the original.
Our first part of the trip was good. However the second part was disappointing as they had not dried off the seats on the top deck after rain during the night. Also people were boarding when there were no seats available and so got crowded. The commentary was good.
On the recommendation of a local, we decided to purchase a 48-hour on-off pass while we were visiting Budapest. One of the best purchases we made! We already had an idea of some of the sport we wanted to visit, and the bus stops at/near all of them. It made getting around very convenient and for the $50USD (which INCLUDED a Danube river boat cruise, it can’t be beat!
Dreadful experience . The driver was rude and overloaded the bus so we stood for over an hour ( we are 73!) and could see nothing as we were crammed up to other passengers!
Very well organized, timely, clean and well equipped for all visitors from around the world , all nationalities. Great historic explanations and covered all the most important and must see locations in Budapest.
Easy to purchase, and easy to use. Route maps were very helpful. English narrative was very good. We enjoyed the bus.
Warning: A bus made for small people! I am 1.88 and slim and the seats upstairs were way too close for me. Painful. Not recommended for tall people! And the bus stopped for a long time at stop no. 9 - leaving us in the sun for no reason? I have done these bus trips in other cities, this one was not so good. Nice city though.
The app have the impression we had to go to 1 of 3 stops to get our tickets. Finally when we ubered to one location, we found a tshirted big bus rep who told us, no. Just get on the bus. We wasted so much time!
Easy to access, clear map tracking once app is downloaded, helped us see a lot of Budapest by road and river
Always a reliable initial experience in many cities. A perfect way to get the “ lay of the land.” The format is easy and diverse covering most city highlights. The cost accessible. You can choose to go one stop or 20 depending on the city. The hop on hop off structure is perfect. Commentary is limited but adequate.
Found seats upstairs but the driver kept the roof on despite it being a nice day. It kinda ruined it for us since it blocked the wind. So got superhot. Plus the kids prefer no roof. Also when we wanted to get back it was past the last bus even though it was jus 17:30ish so that was wierd we paid so much and had to get a cab back.
There is now only the red route - the green line has been retired. It got the job done—- drivers were very friendly and stops were convenient. Busses were crowded and hot (but that’s nature’s fault). Doing some homework ahead of time on where things were located would have helped since it’s a loop and if you miss something you can’t go back you have to go full loop.
We booked the big bus tour, but it is the same company as city sightseeing bus, so we paid more which was disappointing. Several city sightseeing bus drivers stopped where we were waiting, but it was not clear that there was only one service operating the red route and no big bus buses anywhere. The audio was not very informative and much of it was just supermarket music.
Great way to see the city and hop off at any of the many must see places then hop back on to the next.
This should have been a great activity - but it wasn’t. Most of the pick up places were not clearly signposted. The guides at the stops were not interested in helping. The seats were far too squashed together. On only one of the four buses we were on were the stops announced and we missed a couple of them - even watching on the map. The roof top canvas was up on the first bus, so low that you hit your head even stooping - and the canvas tie downs were in the middle of the aisle, so if you did hit your head it was a scratch not a bump. You do get around to most of the keys Budapest sites but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Open top bus. The roof was closed and passengers were hitting their heads No warning. No warning of a twenty minute break but you could swap buses?? Set off before passengers seated Commentary out of synce. Happy driver we were told to get off using the middle door , perhaps the pretty girls behind us didn’t hear ? Highlights was the Citadel but perhaps a local bus would have been cheaper
Great experience Liam L made the tour so much more enjoyable with his humor and knowledge of the area. Recommend if visiting Toronto
The pick up locations need updated by Viator. The app gave me wrong pick up locations and i stood for 45min waiting until i asked a local vendor for help. Go directly through big bus website for accurate stops. Bus ride was fine.
While easy to book and get onboard the experience is less than impressive unless you want an aimless drive through Budapest. Unfortunately the map is not quite the route and the commentary often does not coordinate with the location, even pointing right when the interest is left. Some stops are a long way from the advertised interest. At least one stop has a different number than the map indicates (20/21). In reality it is an expensive way to do what you could do on public transport with a little planning. NOTE. Many of the "attractions" are not free. Even where "free" is mentioned, the real stuff costs entry, often expensive. It is an expensive city! There are two hop on hop off providers. One might give a discount but they really are the same with identical routes, identical stops, and identical commentary. They even send clients to the other side if the other is leaving a stop earlier!
Good way to see major attractions. We didn’t know that the two local bus companies merged and we could use either one.
Great way to see the city. Every 20 minutes from 10am - 5pm. Some of the upstairs ceilings are very low so watch your head! Takes about 2 hours to go once around. Does all the major sights.
Very hot on bus with temporary tarpaulin roof on because of heatwave but only way to see Budapest at moment because of heat!! Watch your head when going upstairs as myself, and others, banged it frequently against steel bars holding tarpaulin roof! Commentary ok. Well done to the drivers and staff in this heat!!!
Left on bus 20 minutes in 40 degree heat without notification- guide did not care when asked
This is the worst HOHO we’ve done! We booked the bus & boat combo. The commentary just mentioned building after building with no interesting facts. Worst of all they didn’t tell us when we were stopping and what stops we were at, so everyone just looked at each other and stayed on the bus. We had no idea where to catch the boat as it’s not near any of the stops. Do not do this tour.
I’m usually a huge fan of these tours but this one in Budapest was poor. It was the day after the Grand Prix weekend and was exceptionally busy but some of the points I’m about to make aren’t relevant to that. The upstairs decks had a cover on and virtually every adult who got on or off hit their heads on either the metal frame or the buckle strap holding the canvas roof on. To sit downstairs was awful as it was just so hot and the engine heat compounded this. The buses we used were noisy and the commentary on the maximum volume was barely audible. Many of the audio’s didn’t work and as the bus was always full there was no option to change seats. The audio sometimes just stopped and then restarted in a different place. Sometimes the commentary didn’t fit with the actual location of the bus. I was amazed that at no point near the Parliament building was there any reference to the Shoes Holocaust memorial, The commentary did say that visitors to the New York Cafe could get a postcard and after writing and addressing it that the cafe would post it anywhere in the world. This isn’t true and apparently hasn’t been true for many years. Overall this was disappointing!
Great sightseeing bus, good commentary ,be aware of low roof upstairs when roof is on as I banged my head
Spent £150 for a family day to spend all of the journey stood up and not seeing any thing., waiting ages for the bus. Hop on hop off should actually mean hop off wait an eternity for the next bus to stand up again. DO NOT BOTHER IN BUSY TIMES. Book a taxi.
Be early as bus get really packed. Some stops people couldn't get on. Great way of seeing Budapest. I used bus two days in a row.
Don't bother using this service, spend a little extra and go for one of the private tours which are better value for money, especially if you are a family or a group travelling together. I experienced rude ticket sellers Over crowded buses Plastic hard seats that fit no one The top floor had a plastic awning in case of rain if you were unfortunate to sit under it, the awning skimmed the top of your head and slammed back and forth every time the bus breaked or took off. Many disappointed customers at each stop as the buses were overcrowded and few and far between
We did not know that Big Bus and City Sightseeing were the same company, so we let a couple buses go by before boarding the Big Bus. Seats on Big bus are so close together and made it difficult for a bigger person to get in and out, as well, the roof was on and you had to hunch over to get to your seat (there was no rain,) The City Sightseeing buses were more comfortable. The bus stopped at all tourist locations making it easy to see the city and the highlights you want to see. The walking tour (Pest side) was extremely informative and I would recommend it highly. Overall, it was a good way to see the city.
