Beautiful hotel with a Gordon Ramsey restaurant inside. Breakfast was included with our stay and it was amazing. We ate at the restaurant twice outside of breakfast. Felt overpriced to me. The hamburger was very average for $30+US and an additional $2 US for ketchup. Also had the sushi and it was great. Fantastic location and very walkable. Has a great sitting area in the atrium.

Let’s separate this one into some stages: 1) Guest relations was great: once I entered the room I have been welcomed with a letter and fruits. Somebody made his homework and knows that I have a celiac disease so he brought fruits as a gluten-free gift. Very good guest relations. 2) The cleaning was spectacular. It was spotless. 3) the breakfast was raising some concerns. The food quality was perfect. However, the service wasn’t fitting with five star hotel expectations.. two days in a row the same thing has happened. I have ordered some food and they forgot to deliver it. I asked where is my toast and yes they totally forgot. (2 days in a row same thing) The waitress brought the toast once I finished my breakfast when I was already going to my room. The kitchen was forgeting orders. Moreover it was slow. We ordered coffee and it arrived 20 minutes later. My partner ordered waffles and it delivered 40 mins later. ( Unacceptable slowness) Once I entered the breakfast hall, the clock was 9:50. A lady welcomed me in the door.I wanted some privacy so I asked if I can sit into the chairs in the back however they said they are preparing that section for lunch. (Check video that empty tables which they didnt allow us to sit) Customer is always right and have a right to sit wherever they want in the breakfast hall. This is lacking of service and hospitality. Not fitting with 5 star Bonvoy hotel hospitality. Not welcoming at all. Once I ask the waitress to take my empty plate, she replied me: “ Wait a minute I’m busy.” The correct and hospitable phraseology should be; “for sure, I am coming in a minute to pick up the dishes” The biggest and the worst part of this stay was I am a Titanium elite member. I asked an atrium view suite upgrade because it was bathtub in there. They provide a very bad upgrade (just to give upgrade to call they gave an “upgrade”. The suite was having no windows wall to wall like other suites in the building. The view was limited. And they didn’t care my mail which says I am coming with my partner and it is our anniversary” I wanted atrium suite upgrade with mail before our arrival and they said it is based on availability. Of course I know it is based on availability but I don’t have anniversary everyday. All in all maybe we shouldn’t expect too much from this hotel in terms of hospitality and service. Other than that reception, cleaning, guest relations and hotel design is spectacular. Just not hospitable.
I had a fantastic stay at the Dorothea Hotel in Budapest. Alexandra made a brilliant first impression at check-in. She was incredibly welcoming, recognised my Marriott Platinum Elite status, and went above and beyond by explaining all the benefits and options available to me. I was also kindly upgraded to a suite, which made the stay even more enjoyable. The service throughout the hotel was excellent. One feature I especially appreciated was the water refill stations located around the property – such a thoughtful touch that’s not only convenient but also environmentally friendly. The suite was spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom and amenities were of a very high standard. The location is also hard to beat, right in the heart of Budapest with many of the city’s main attractions within walking distance. Overall, an excellent hotel with outstanding hospitality. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest.
My husband and I stayed here, and two other 5-star (not Marriott) hotels, during the week of June 14, 2026, and the Dorothea was so, so lovely. In fact, after leaving the last hotel of the trip I really wished we would have extended our stay at the Dorothea, because our last hotel was not the 5-star quality it was advertised to be, but the Dorotha certainly was! As Bonvoy members we have stayed at many Marriott properties around the world, and I always feel welcome, and that was still the case when we arrived so late to the Doretha. As soon as I walked in and immediately smelled that signature Marriott fragrance I knew I was home! I am obsessed with that scent! I saw it was for sale on the counter, but we were so busy I did not have a chance to buy it, but wished that I had. The staff was so friendly and courteous for our entire stay. We were not part of the cruises or other events, just everyday tourists, and we arrived very late for check-in, but were greeted with hospitality, and offered a wonderful welcome drink that was much needed! Thank you! We did not receive anything like that from the last hotel we were at! Once up at our room I was surprised how large the room and bathroom were! Usually hotel bathrooms are so dark and musty, but this was the first one that I have been in that had floor to ceiling windows which made it so light and bright that it felt luxurious, and not dank in any way. In addition, I much appreciated the black-out curtains and soft robe and slippers, making mornings easier. We also had breakfast downstairs and were warmly greeted each morning by multiple staff members, and enjoyed the large selection of food and beverages each day. I am still thinking about that green juice and Hungarian yogurt! In addition, we had a night cap at Pavilon Restaurant & Bar too, and I appreciate the flexibility and willingness of the bartender who made me a drink that was not on the menu. The automatic doors, the clean flooring, the fragrance, and the decor of the Dorothea made the hotel luxuriously modern, something that our last hotel was greatly lacking. Overall I was pleased with the design, atmosphere, the comfort of the room, as well as the service provided by your team, so much so that I wished we had stayed longer!
My rating is due to one thing only. The service was great, the location is great. I give it 2 stars because of their lacking of cooling. The lobby? Uncomfortably warm. Dining area? Uncomfortably warm. Rooms? Uncomfortably warm. When we called to ask if the thermostats could be lowered (they were locked at 20 Celsius), we were told “that was not possible”. Here’s my issue with that….This hotel is 500 plus USD/night at the lower end of their offerings. There is absolutely no reason they should be operating a hotel this warm in the summer months. And then to tell a paying customer “it’s not possible” is preposterous. I happened to do a little research….though their room thermostats would allow for a 20C setting, the thermostat also allowed for a 3.5degree Celsius swing…meaning that these rooms are essentially set to 75 degrees F. That is uncomfortably warm, especially at night. Add to that frustration, the beds were still topped with winter duvet covers. They were very thick and heavy. Also, there was no real ability to get airflow into the rooms…the windows would only open about 6-8 inches and are recessed into the building. It was just uncomfortable. To their credit they were able to lend us a fan for our stay…but I should then add, it was quite insulting. When they brought us the fan, the gentleman told us that we must bring it back after our stay or there would be a charge. Did he think we were going to STEAL a fan??? This is not a five star experience. While the staff were nice, and the food offerings were great, I will not book here again. I cannot spend that kind of money and be that uncomfortable, when the sole purpose of a hotel is to give you comfortable sleep.
