Lovely hotel and staff, but a very disappointing experience We recently stayed at Danubius Hotel Helia for four days, spending over €1,000. Overall, we had a lovely experience, and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, one incident left a very bitter taste. During our stay, I inadvertently left the hotel bar without settling a bill of less than €20. I fully acknowledge that the bill needed to be paid, and I had absolutely no intention of avoiding payment. However, instead of handling this discreetly, someone came to our room and started banging on the door, demanding payment. At that very moment, we were dealing with a stressful private family situation, making the experience particularly unpleasant. What I find astonishing is that the hotel already had my card details. Someone clearly took the trouble to contact reception, identify our room and come upstairs. Why not simply contact us politely, add the charge to our room if possible, or arrange payment through reception? Being treated like a criminal over a €20 oversight, after spending more than €1,000 at the hotel, felt intimidating, humiliating and completely disproportionate. I have absolutely no objection to paying what I owe. My issue is entirely with how the situation was handled. A simple, polite request would have resolved everything immediately. It's a shame because the hotel and the majority of its staff were wonderful. Unfortunately, one unnecessarily confrontational incident overshadowed an otherwise very enjoyable stay. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. Hospitality isn't just about providing good facilities; it's also about treating guests with respect and understanding, especially when something goes wrong.

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at Danubius Hotel Helia. The lobby and reception area are beautifully designed and create a great first impression. The hotel was very clean throughout, and the food was excellent. We stayed in a Junior Suite. While it was comfortable and very clean, it was smaller than we expected for this room category. The view from the room was also very limited, with only a partial view. The pool area was enjoyable, although the outdoor area could use some improvement. During our stay, only three pools were available, while the main large pool was closed for renovation. This was a little disappointing, as the pool facilities were one of the reasons we chose the hotel. The food at the restaurant was very good, but the service could be more attentive. On one occasion, our food was served without anyone having asked us what we would like to drink. We eventually had to ask for drinks ourselves, and they arrived after we had already started eating. The staff were friendly, but the overall level of attentiveness could definitely be improved. There is also some room for improvement at reception. During check-in, communication in English was difficult, and I had to repeat the same information several times before it was understood. The most disappointing part of our experience was the bellboy service. We arrived with several pieces of luggage and two children, while the bellboys were standing together talking. They clearly saw us and looked directly at us, but did not greet us, offer to help with our luggage, or even hold the door for us. Considering that assisting arriving guests is part of this service, we found this particularly disappointing and disrespectful. This is certainly not the level of hospitality we would expect from a hotel of this category. Despite these points, we were overall very satisfied with our stay. The hotel has many strong points, especially its cleanliness, excellent food and beautiful interior. With some improvements in guest service and the pool area, the overall experience could be excellent.
Wonderful stay with beautiful Danube views ❤️ We’ve just come back from our holiday and absolutely loved every minute of our stay at Danubius Hotel Helia. The hotel has recently been beautifully renovated, so everything feels fresh, modern and sparkling new. Our Premium Double Room with Danube views was superb — comfortable, spotlessly clean and with the most beautiful views. We had lovely, restful sleeps and waking up to the river and Margaret Island view was such a treat. Watching the sunset from the room in the evening was equally lovely. The daily housekeeping was excellent, and breakfast offered a great variety of both hot and cold options, with plenty of choice throughout our stay. The staff were also consistently polite, friendly and helpful. The only downside was that the swimming pool was being renovated during our visit. However, the hotel kindly offered free access to their sister hotel, Ensana Thermal Margaret Island, which was a lovely alternative. The rooftop outdoor pool was perfect in the summer heat, and the indoor thermal baths and sauna were fantastic. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend the Helia. Personally, because of the larger spa facilities at Ensana Thermal, I might choose to stay there next time, but the Helia is equally lovely and has fantastic access to Budapest city centre. We would definitely return! ❤️
Very good hotel with comfortable rooms. We stayed for four nights in a modern, well-equipped apartment that included two TVs, a fully equipped kitchen, a washing machine, two bathrooms, and air conditioning. The breakfasts were very good, with a wide selection of food. If we visit Budapest again, we will definitely choose this hotel again. I highly recommend it.
A good and safe choice in Budapest. The hotel was very clean, the staff were kind, and the spa facilities, including the pools, sauna, were great. The room and windows were quite small, and unfortunately, the towels often had stains. Overall, I had a good stay and would choose this hotel again.
