We had an awesome experience. Our guide Mavliud contacted me before the trip and asked if we wanted to go in the morning as I had booked or later in the day and attend the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. We were delighted to have the choice and chose to be able to attend the ceremony. It was a full and busy trip - Mavliud’s knowledge was exceptional and he took us to places we would never have found on our own special to all Australian but also special to member of my family who fought in WWI. The ceremony at the Menin Gate that has been conducted every night since WWI (even if relocated wot England during part of WWII) was moving. Such a memorable day that will stay with me for ever. An added bonus was Mavliud is a photographer so we have some family photos to take home that are not selfies. A great way to do a tour like this if the sites matter to you personally and moving around with a busload does not sit well.

Itinerary
Discover the historic city of Ypres, the symbolic heart of the Western Front. Visit the medieval city center and the powerful In Flanders Fields Museum, where interactive exhibits and personal stories bring the history of World War I to life. You will also have time for a short break or lunch before continuing the journey.
Visit the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, one of the most important World War I monuments in Belgium. Your guide will explain its significance and the names engraved on its walls. If your tour ends in the evening, you will witness the moving Last Post Ceremony at 8 PM — a daily tribute to the fallen soldiers.
Visit the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world. Located near Passchendaele, Tyne Cot is the resting place of nearly 12,000 soldiers and features a striking wall inscribed with the names of the missing. Your guide will share personal stories and explain the importance of this site to the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
Discover the brutal reality of trench warfare at the Passchendaele Museum. Visitors will explore reconstructed trenches, interactive exhibits, and authentic artifacts that bring the Battle of Passchendaele to life. A powerful and immersive experience.
Visit the solemn Vladslo German War Cemetery, the final resting place of over 25,000 German soldiers. This site is known for the haunting sculpture “The Grieving Parents” by Käthe Kollwitz, created in memory of her own son, Peter, who died in battle. A place of deep emotion, this cemetery invites reflection on the human cost of war.
The only American World War I cemetery in Belgium. This beautifully maintained site honors 368 fallen American soldiers and features a chapel with stained glass and engraved maps. It is a place of reflection and quiet remembrance for U.S. visitors.
This powerful Canadian monument marks the site where poison gas was first used on the Western Front. The statue of the “Brooding Soldier” honors the bravery of Canadian troops who held the line during the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915.
Hooge Crater marks the location of underground mine explosions used in trench warfare. The area changed hands multiple times and became one of the most heavily contested and destroyed sectors near Ypres.
Polygon Wood was the site of intense fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. Today it is a peaceful forest with cemeteries and memorials honoring soldiers from several nations who fought and fell here.
Hill 62 offers one of the rare places where original WWI trenches are still visible today. This strategic ridge was fiercely fought over because it provided commanding views over Ypres and surrounding battlefields.
Visit the site where Canadian doctor John McCrae wrote the iconic poem “In Flanders Fields.” This cemetery includes original bunkers and field dressing stations, offering a unique look at the medical side of World War I. A must-see for those interested in Canadian history.

Good experience overall. The guide in Ypres was a bit rusty as it was his first tour after a break of 2+ years. His jokes were also a bit crude for our taste. Might just have been us but he made a few derogatory jokes about women and he also referred to his testicles on several occasions.
Excellent WWI tour. The trenches are an absolute must see and made a lasting impression on us. Our guide was very friendly and even dropped us off at the restaurant we requested after the tour. A great day overall.
This was a serious and emotional day, but also one of the most valuable parts of our trip to Belgium. Everything was organised respectfully and professionally.
Very smooth and comfortable day. The driver was on time, friendly, and professional. Everything was easy from start to finish.
Great experience. The trip was well organized, the car was comfortable, and we had enough time to enjoy the city without rushing. Thank you again.
Informative and well-organized” The tour covered all the main WWI sites I wanted to see.
Highly recommended! It was a great tour that was very informative and insightful. Mav (our guide) was highly knowledgeable and tailored the tour to our preferences.
We booked the World War I private tour in the hopes of finding my husband‘s two great uncles burial sites who were buried in the German cemeteries, our local guide Nikolai made this happen. We were so pleased. We also tour trenches, battlefields, and passchendaele Museum. Nikolai was knowledgable and an unbiassed tour guide and we would highly recommend his services. Our driver Theo was an excellent driver and added to our great day.
We had a wonderful day out with our guide Nikolai Visiting the actual sites, trenches, cemeteries and various museums was moving and was a reminder to us of what occurred and the lives lost during this period. The daily living conditions and hardships were evident in the multiple photographs and stories in the areas.
Nikolai was our personal guide. What a wonderful day we had. Since we are from Canada, the company allowed us to visit memorials that were not included in the original tour. The Passendale Museum is probably the best war museum we have ever been to. Also the restaurant our guide recommended in the city of Ippre was wonderful.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks for the excellent WWI tour. It was a profound experience to visit the locations tied to our great-grandfather’s service and to see his final resting place. The tour was exceptionally well planned and met all of our expectations. We deeply appreciate your efforts.
If you’re passionate about military history, museums, trenches, and WWI landmarks — this tour is for you. Every stop is rich in history and emotion. It’s a powerful way to learn, reflect, and truly feel the past.
Mavliud from ProCapture tours delivered an outstanding tailored tour of the Australian related WW1 sites. His end to end service was flawless - on time, friendly, knowledgeable and flexible ensuring our expectations were met. He was an excellent host and driver. We had a very memorable day.
Thank you so much for this special WWI tour. It meant a lot to us to visit the places where our great-grandfather was during the war and where he’s buried. Everything was well organized and exactly what we needed. We really appreciate it!
