Itinerary
What does minnewater mean? This is the Dutch name for the lake, which is made up of two Dutch words: minne, which means both "common" and "love", and water, which means "water". Thus, the most correct translation would mean translating the word minne as "common", since these were the "common waters, community waters, everyone's water" since it was where the old port of Bruges was located, a site closely linked to the city and the daily life of its citizens.
The beguinage is one of the most representative complexes of Bruges, a prelude to what you will find in this magical city, an environment anchored in the Middle Ages immersed in a sea of tranquility. In addition, it is declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
You will have the opportunity to take beautiful photos from the small bridge. Go ahead without stopping.
In this beautiful square, our guide will explain the history of Bruges beer.
Here our guide will teach us how to identify the original medieval houses.
In front of the Old St. John Hospital, our guide will explain how the health system worked in medieval Bruges.
Opposite the old Hospital de San Juan, we will find the Church of Our Lady. From the outside, our guide will explain some curiosities about the white marble sculpture of the Virgin and Child created by Michelangelo that is inside the church.
In front of Gruuthuse, we will meet the most famous and powerful family in Bruges between the 17th and 18th centuries.
The so-called Huidenvettersplein, the Plaza de los Curtidores, is part, within the medieval complex that is Bruges, of that corner that in history is occupied by the old craft guilds.
Everything from here seems taken from a fairy tale. It is impossible not to resist the temptation to take one of the boats and begin our walk through the Bruges canals at the Rosario Wharf. I used to go to this place late in the afternoon, or after dinner. You will take with you the best memories of this city, which by itself usually holds the best memories in all who visit it.
Burg Square is the political center of Bruges, a charming place where architecture lovers can enjoy buildings of different styles that have been erected over more than a thousand years of history.
In one of the few certified artisan chocolate shops, we will have the opportunity to taste artisan chocolates. Our guide will also tell us about the famous Bruges chocolate and give us some tips to distinguish handmade from industrial chocolate.

Thomas was great! The beer tasting and boat ride was so great to have as options after the walking tour was done.
Meeting point was changed last minute. Could not find new location on time. Called customer service and they transferred to some number with french messages. The number would take only messages and it got disconnected.
The tour was very interesting, our guide Lea had a great knowledge of all we saw as well as fun stories. She was delightful.
Viator booking was quick to refund our full payment after we didn't meet up with the Walking Tour of Bruges.
The tour was average and our group was too large for the guide to speak to with such a strong Italian accent. I struggled to understand her English as she was obviously not fluent.
dreadful...guide did not turn up. No word of apology. I received back my fee though, but it does excuse the lack of courtesy
This was a 2:30 p.m. tour. The meeting point is at the train station, which is about a 25-minute walk from the city center. If you arrive in Bruges early and want to do some sightseeing on your own, keep in mind that you’ll need to walk back to the station for the tour. Also, because the meeting point is at the train station, the first 10–15 minutes of the tour are spent simply walking into the city. The walking tour itself lasted only about 1 hour and 20 minutes, so after taking out those first 15 minutes of walking, it was roughly an hour of actual guided sightseeing. As for the boat portion, it was a pleasant ride, and the driver provided commentary along the way. However, some of the information was the same as what had already been shared during the walking tour. Bottom line: I would recommend booking a “free” walking tour separately and buying the boat ticket on-site. There were no lines and no waiting time when we did it this way. This option would likely be cheaper and may even provide a better-quality walking tour. This was our fourth walking tour on this trip, and unfortunately, it was the one I liked the least.
It was a great way to see the city. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. I have used this company in and out of of the United States and it’s always been a home run.
Easy stroll of Bruge. Virginia was informative and knowlegeable. She was also considerate of everyone’s needs. Enjoyed the beer tasting. We were able to do the boat tour the next day due to rain.
Our tour guide was fantastic. He had a great sense of humor, and he gave us a lot of history and myths. It was the perfect length and we got to see all the major sites.
Tourvtime was changed and we did not get notified until it was too late to change. Notification came thru app which we did not see, as we were continuing to get emails reminding us of our tour at the original time.
Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. She did a great job of keeping everyone engaged and moving along. I really enjoyed the tour.
Fabulous tour. Well organised. Our guide Leah (Sorry if I misspelt the name) was so good. She was funny, informative and very engaging. We actually dislike tours with too too many facts and figures. Hers was informative but so enjoyable.
Leah was great. Very knowledgeable and some good on topic jokes along the way. Easy paced walking tour of some of the more interesting areas of town.
Excellent tour of Brugge, with a very informative and animated guide Maria. The experience was spoilt by the tour operators refusal to refund my wifes ticket who badly sprained her ankle that mng. As there were over 22 ppl on the tour, this smacked of pure greed by the operator
We had a brilliant walking tour of Bruges while visiting Belgium on our family cruise. Our guide Leia was fantastic, really friendly, knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and fun for the whole family. Bruges is absolutely beautiful, with its canals, cobbled streets and amazing historic buildings. The walking tour was a great way to explore the city and learn things we would never have discovered on our own. A fantastic day and definitely one of the highlights of our cruise. Would highly recommend! 🇧🇪⭐
Outstanding! Informative and humorous! We had a 2-hour walking tour starting at the train station. We had also purchased the boat trip and the beer tasting. After the walking tour, we had until 17:30 to take the boat and until 18:30 to do the beer tasting. Everything was close together. For the beer tasting, we were given 4 coins to trade for a beer of our choice. Super fun! Friendly people!
We were somewhat surprised that we would be joining a tour group that had taken a bus in from Brussels. The group was so large that it was divided up into two groups, which was good. However, the guide seemed fairly knowledgeable but was too quiet when speaking. We missed a lot of what was said because he did not speak up, even when I asked him to repeat himself. I think a little Google research before going to Bruges and walking around at your own leisure would have made for a better experience.
Great tour, Lei was our guide she was very friendly & explained everything. We had the canal & beer tasting tour & beer tasting was excellent & could do these 2 things in your own time which was great
Excellent Tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the city and gave us history about each sight. The boat ride was a great addition, allowing us to see the city from the canals.
Thank you Lea for a wonderful experience in Bruges! Great tour! Informative and funny too! Would definitely recommend.
A great time! Strongly recommend! We added the boat and beer add ons were fantastic additions! Leah did a great job with the tour and amount of information and treats shared!
Our guide harrise from Spain was lovely, he was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to.
A great walking tour of Bruges, and a lovely canal trip. Our guide, Leah, was fantastic. Really enjoyed it.
Lyla was highly informative on the walking tour. The pace was easy (which was good as it was very hot in Brugge). She highlighted all the main points of interest and gave us handy tips of places to visit, eat, and drink. 2hr went by quickly. All in all good tour and highly recommended.
Bruges is beautiful and it was great to get to hear about it from a local, with her insights and local knowledge.
This was an excellent tour. Oscar was a brilliant guide and we learned so much about Bruges and its history. The boat trip was lovely too and we enjoyed the beer tasting.
Loved this tour!! Laya (??spelling) was great!! Very informative. Would definitely recommend this tour!!!
This review would have been a zero-star review if it were not for the amazing, knowledgeable, subcontracted tour guide, “JK” (can’t remember his actual name). The company that runs this tour has absolutely zero customer service. I tried messaging them through the messaging portal, twice, with no response. I tried calling, but nothing but a French automated voice message asking to leave a message, again with no response or call back to my message. Please be careful when booking with this company!
A well done tour that was historical and yet enjoyable. It truly is a walking tour but you cover a great part of the city. Our guide pointed out recommendations along the way as well.
My family and I really enjoyed this tour. The Guide was extremely knowledgeable and made sure to give recommendations for places to eat. The meeting place was convenient; however Google map originally took us across town.
Oscar was a wonderful tour guide, and this tour was a great way to get to know the beautiful city of Bruges!
Brugge is beautiful. Our tour guide didn’t take us to the chocolate store. He changed the start point at the last minute. We had to ask about the cruise o canals. There was an issue with our names being on the list for the beer tasting. All in all not up to par with past tour with your company
Your guide Julian was very informative but there was a mix up with the meeting point. We were not informed of the new meeting point until well after the allocated start time which was very poor. There were 4 other people in the same boat
Excellent and very informative walking tour. Antonio was extremely personable and engaging. Boat tour was lovely with no wait for board ( may have timed this well). Excellent choice of beers to taste at the beer museum
Outstanding tour, great guild, fab time out seeing an amazing city.
Wear comfortable shoes. There’s lots of walking as it’s a walking tour. It was so informative and a great way to see the city.
Maria is an awesome guide! Very knowledgeable, but also very enthusiastic and delivers with a great balance of information and entertainment ☺️
Everything about the tour was great - very personable and knowledgeable guide, and the stops were well-planned and relevant.
Experience overall was brilliant. Guide was amazing and very informed. Made every part interesting. We all had a brilliant time. Only 2 downsides - we were a party of 9 and they split our group between two tours, which was a shame as we all would have preferred to be together and the boat element, the queues were very long but the guy running it signed our tickets so we could use them the next day, which we did. The boat tour was lovely and the guide was brilliant.
We had a fantastic time learning about the history and culture of Bruges. The walking tour was the perfect way to see many of the sights and our guide Blanca was a fun and engaging host. She’s a total gem! The beer tasting and the boat tour were excellent additions to the walking tour and we would recommend the full package for sure!
Fun introduction to Brugges - Oscar was a great tour guide and provided a lovely overview of the history of the city as well as a great tip on what to look for when buying Belgian chocolate! We chose the beer tasting option which was a perfect way to end the tour, especially on the cold, rainy day when we visited the area.
I have always been pleased with Viator tours but the location of the meeting place was confusing (there are several Carefours) in Bruges so we ended up missing the tour. The company actually doing the tour (Viator contracted it to) was rude and blamed it on Viator. This week Viator is changing the time of our Lourve tour messing up schedule. I will not book with them anymore as they are not what they used to be service wise.
Lucia R was excellent and showed us some unique highlights.
Fantastic way to orient around Burges. Maria was fantastic and had some great recommendations. Canal cruise was a great addition as well as the beer tasting - just do it!!
Great tour! Maria was engaging and provided lots of information but kept if fun!! Highly recommend! We saw all the main highlights and the boat tour at the end was an easy add-on and a beautiful end to a great tour!
The walking tour was great. Our guide was fantastic. Her knowledge of local history was astounding and she explained everything very well.
The tour was okay and informative
This is a fun and engaging walk with lots to learn about Bruges. Suitable for family!! AND includes chocolate!
