Itinerary
We start on the Grand Place of Bruges, the historic and lively heart of the city. Surrounded by magnificent gabled buildings and colorful houses, it offers a real journey into medieval Bruges. In the center of this square stands the famous Belfry of Bruges. This imposing medieval tower, 83 meters high, has dominated the city since the 13th century. It houses an impressive carillon of 47 bells, whose chimes still rhythm the life of Bruges today. The Belfry once symbolized the power and independence of the city. From its summit, the view of the rooftops of Bruges is spectacular. One of the great symbols of Bruges and a must-see during your discovery of the city!
We continue our walk to the Burg Square, one of the most prestigious and historic squares in Bruges. This is where the city's center of power used to be. On this magnificent square is the Basilica of the Holy Blood, a remarkable building composed of two superimposed chapels. The upper chapel houses a precious relic venerated for centuries: a vial containing, according to tradition, a few drops of the blood of Christ. Right next door stands the impressive Town Hall, built in the 14th century. Its richly decorated Gothic facade testifies to the power and prosperity of Bruges in the Middle Ages. Admire its numerous statues and architectural details: every element tells a part of the city's history. The Burg thus brings together history, architecture, and religious heritage in one place, in the very heart of medieval Bruges.
We then continue to the Old Fish Market, one of the historic places in Bruges. The elegant colonnade immediately catches the eye: it has no less than 126 columns surrounding the square. The complex offers a magnificent historical setting by the water and bears witness to the care given to the architecture of Bruges' public spaces. It is also a pleasant viewpoint to admire the canals and the old facades that line it.
The Tanners' Square (Huidenvettersplein) is one of the most picturesque small squares in Bruges. It is surrounded by beautiful historic facades and welcoming terraces. In the past, this neighborhood was occupied by the tanners, who worked with hides and leather. Today, the square offers a charming atmosphere.
What a magnificent view! The canal, the house of a Spanish nobleman, and the majestic weeping willow compose here a scene worthy of a postcard. It's the ideal place to take an unforgettable photo. In the past, they sold rosaries there, which explains the name Quai du Rosaire. Today, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Bruges, very popular with visitors and photographers. This is where our boat trip on the canals of Bruges begins. For about 30 minutes, let yourself be carried in a boat and discover the city from a completely different angle. To the tranquil rhythm of the water, you will pass under charming bridges and follow historic facades, old houses, and hidden corners that you cannot always discover on foot. A unique and relaxing way to admire the charm of Bruges and fully enjoy its romantic atmosphere.
We continue our walk along the Dijver, a historic street located right next to the Bruges canal. We walk in the shade of the trees, in a particularly pleasant and peaceful setting. Along the way, we can admire the canal, the historic facades and several emblematic buildings of Bruges.
The boatmen call this small bridge the "kissing bridge" and it is easy to understand why! It is one of the most romantic places in Bruges. Take the time to admire the charming canal, the wooden houses, and the peaceful setting surrounding it. The bridge dates from 1910, but fits perfectly into the historical scenery of Bruges. It almost feels like a fairy tale!
This city palace is really impressive. Above the entrance, we see Louis de Gruuthuse on horseback, in armor. He was a knight and a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece, one of the most prestigious chivalric orders of his time. The statue still dominates the impressive entrance of the palace today. The Gruuthuse palace testifies to the wealth and power of this Bruges family. Its elegant facade and numerous details tell part of the history of Bruges. A real gem in the heart of the city!
We pass by the Notre-Dame church, but we are not at a loss to be impressed by its immense bell tower, which rises majestically towards the sky.
These small houses, called "houses of God," were once intended to accommodate people in need, particularly the elderly or widows. They formed small peaceful groups around a courtyard. In Bruges, some of these houses are still inhabited today. They mainly testify to the tradition of solidarity and charity that once existed in the city.
To cross the door of the Princier Béguinage, is to enter a haven of peace in the heart of Bruges. Founded in the 13th century, this place was once inhabited by beggars: unmarried or widowed women who chose to live together, in prayer and work, while maintaining great independence. The whitewashed houses surround a magnificent inner garden where calm and serenity reign. Since 1998, the Begijnhof of Bruges has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The last beghards left the Béguinage in 1927. Today, some single women still live there. The place thus retained its vocation as a female community and its peaceful atmosphere. Take the time to admire the white facades, the large trees, the little church of Saint Elizabeth, and above all, the silence that is an integral part of the identity of this unique place.
The De Halve Maan brewery is a real institution in Bruges. This family brewery has been brewing beer here since 1856. It is notably here that the famous Brugse Zot, an emblematic beer of the city, was born. Today still, beer is brewed in the heart of Bruges. Since 2016, an underground pipeline several kilometers long transports the beer from the brewery to the bottling plant located outside the historic center. An ingenious solution that prevents the streets of Bruges from the passage of many tanker trucks!

Horse-Drawn carriage’s drivers treat tourists like trash. They do not even give the information, they tell you to read the advertisement….it is writen in dutch! . Specially young ladies drivers, they are the meanest! So if you decide to get a ride, look for an older driver!!
Rick, our tour guide, was a highlight of our vacation. He customized much of the tour on the fly because we had already seen a large portion of the preplanned tour. He is extremely knowledgeable and we learned so much about Bruges and Belgium from him. He also ran 30 minutes over answering all our questions and was incredibly gracious about it.
Excellent Bruge tour. Spent some time on a carriage ride and then spent the rest of the time on a private walking tour. Our guide was VERY knowledgeable and covered all the "must see" places and then showed us some hidden gems. He was very knowledgeable and you can even customize what you would like to see and learn about, if you want. Worth the money, and in Bruge with all the tourist, a private guided tour is a MUST!
If you’re looking to discover Bruges less like a tourist and more like a local, this tour with Anna is the way to go! This 3 hour tour had so much to offer. We visited the highlights of the city, learned about the rich history of Bruges and still had time to sneak in the hidden gems that only the locals know about. The tastings were a true depiction of regional specialties and I find that eating like a local helps me connect with the culture so much more. Anna specifically is an excellent story-teller, so you will definitely be entertained as you eat piping-hot fries and taste the finest Belgian chocolate. Book a tour with her, and you won’t regret it!
We were introduced to the Venice of the North in a pleasant and educational way. Anna, our charming guide, provided the interpretation. She was very flexible and knew exactly what the group wanted. She showed us the nicest places and fascinated us with interesting stories.Definitely recommended.
Thanks to Betty for the very interesting tour in the streets of Bruges. You can see that she is passionate and speaks French very well. We really enjoyed the boat tour and the chocolate tasting stop.
It was magnificent, Berry is an experienced and very, very nice guide.
A tourist catch 70 euros for 35 minutes with 15 minutes (and not 5!!!! ) break to feed the horse after 10 minutes of walking!!! All with a barely friendly coachman! Frankly!!! Avoid it!!!
Pleasant visit in a carriage for 30 minutes with a price of 60€ for the whole carriage. The coachman we had made nice comments to us with 2 or 3 anti-French comments. Even more annoying, he was very insistent on having a tip on top of the €60. For me this price was the right price. I didn't give in.
Beautiful bridges beautiful view the city so beautiful historic is really worth to go day or weekend
Very rewarding guided tour. Anna, our guide passionately transmits his knowledge of this beautiful city. The kids loved it and we listened from start to finish I highly recommend this visit. We learned a lot from it Thank you Anna
We made this private tour as soon as we arrived in Bruges. Anna told us about the history of Bruges, showed us cult places like unknown ones with some anecdotes! We recommend her, in addition she has a very good command of French!
Anna is a super guide. Very driven and enthusiastic, she shows you the most idyllic and special places. History and culture alternate with the necessary humour.
My husband loved history, I loved the stories, both our expectations were met. Anna took us through Bruges through alleys and streets and surprised us with a super cool tour. And also a few nice, and tasty stops indicated along the way. The day after we went out on her recommendation with our bikes. Which made it a successful weekend.
We enjoyed surprising legends. We heard fascinating stories. Now the numerous images mean much more to me. I pay attention to bas-reliefs that I didn't see before. And... we discovered beautiful places. Highly recommended!
